  • This paper was to evaluate the high strength lightweight self-compacting concrete(HLSCC) manufactured by Nan-Su, which main factor, Packing Factor(PF) for mixing design, has been modified and improved. We have examined HLSCC performance at its fresh condition as well as its mechanical properties at the hardened condition. The evaluation of HLSCC fluidity has been conducted per the standard of second class rating of JSCE, by three categories of flowability(slump-flow), segregation resistance ability(time required to reach 500mm of slump-flow and time required to flow through V-funnel) and filling ability(U-box test) of fresh concrete. The compressive strength of HLSSC at 28 days has come out to more than 30MPa in all mixes. The relationship between the compressive strength-splitting tensile strength and compressive strength-modulus of elasticity of HLSSC were similar those of typical lightweight concrete. Compressive strength and dry density of HLSCC at 28 days from the multiple regression analysis resulted as $f_c=-0.16LC-0.008LS+50.05(R=0.83)\;and\;f_d=-3.598LC-2.244LS+2,310(R=0.99)$, respectively.

  • In this paper, mechanical properties of the high strength lightweight self-compacting concrete with simple mixed design method was investigated. Experimental tests were performed as such compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, modulus of elasticity and density of high strength lightweight self-compacting concrete. The 28 days compressive strength of high strength lightweight self-compacting concrete with the LC replacement ratio of $100\%$ reduces about $31\%$ but LF replacement ratio of $100\%$ increase about $20\%$ compared that of the control concrete. The structural efficiency of high strength lightweight self-compacting concrete increase with proportional to the replacement into of LF. The relationship between the splitting tensile strength and 28 days compressive strength can be represented by the equation $f_s=0.076f_{ck}+0.5582$. The modulus of elasticity was found to be lower than that of normal weight concrete, ranging form 24 to 33 GPa.

  • Experimental tests on the high strength self-compacting concrete with light-weight fine aggregate and light-weight coarse aggregate(LHSSC) were performed with slump-flow, reaching time to the slump-flow of 500mm, V-funnel dropping time and U-box difference level and compressive strength. LHSCC with light-weight fine aggregate of 75% and light-weight coarse aggregate of 100% was only satisfied with the property conditions of second self-compacting concrete(SCC), like as flowability, resistance to segregation and filling ability. The 28-day compressive strength of LHSCC indicated above 300kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ in all concrete mixtures, and it was increased to increase the replacement ratio of light-weight fine aggregate or to decrease the replacement ratio of light-weight coarse aggregate. Therefore, for satisfying the properties of fresh SCC and hardened concrete with above 350kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$, it would expected that the replacement ratio of light-weight fine aggregate and light-weight coarse aggregate will be determined with 50~75% and 25~50%, respectively.

  • Lightweight concrete is known for its advantage of reducing the self-weight of the structures, reducing the areas of sectional members as well as making the construction convenient. Thus the construction cost can be saved when applied to structures such as long-span bridge and high rise buildings. However, the lightweight concrete requires specific mix design method that is quite different from the typical concrete, since using the typical mix method would give rise the material segregation as well as lower the strength by the reduced weight of the aggregate. In order to avoid such problems, it is recommended to apply the mix design method of self-compacting concrete for the lightweight concrete. Experimental tests were performed as such compressive strength, dry shrinkage and carbonation of high strength lightweight self-compacting concrete.
