Causes of Air pollution and Effects of Mitigation Policy in Korea (우리나라 대기오염배출 원인과 저감 정책 효과 분석)

  • Recently as fine and ultra fine particles become major environmental issues in Korea, it is very important to develop effective solutions to air pollution. Accordingly this study aims at detecting causes of air pollution by using models and examining if diesel price increases contribute to reduction of diesel consumption and air pollution. TSP, PM10, $NO_X$, $SO_X$, CO, and VOC are included as major air pollutants. As a result, we found invert U shape curve between pollution and income for all air pollutants except CO. Consumer price index, coal power capacity, diesel consumption, frequency of yellow dust, number of natural gas buses, number of transport business, annual average temperature, number of manufacturing businesses are also influential in explaining causes of air pollution. As diesel price increases by 1%, air pollutants decline between 0.07~0.12% in the short run. Simultaneously, the additional revenue from increases in diesel prices might be transferred to support expansion of biofuel market. Also, stronger policy should be developed to mitigate the current air pollution problem.

A Study on The Performance and Fuel Economy of Diesel Vehicles According to Change in Fuel Properties (연료물성에 따른 경유 차량의 성능 및 에너지소비효율 연구)

  • Increasing emissions regulations and demand of high-efficiency cars that travels a lot of distance with less fuel, there is growing interest in Energy Consumption Efficiency. Korean energy consumption efficiency compute combined Fuel Economy by driven city & highway driving mode and present final Energy Consumption Efficiency as using 5-cycle correction formula. Energy consumption efficiency is computed Carbon-balance-method, when used burning fuel play a key role in vehicle performance & Energy Consumption Efficiency. In Korea, vehicle fuel is circulate by Petroleum and Petroleum Alternative Business Act, there is property difference in quality standard because petroleum sector's refine method or type of crude oil. It does not appear a big difference according to fuel, because it sets steady quality standard, it may affect the performance of automobile. Thus, in research We purchase a few diesel fuel which circulated in the market in summer season though directly-managed-gas station by petroleum sector, resolve property each of fuel, we compute Fuel Economy each of them. We analyze into change depend on applying for property as nowadays utilizing Energy Consumption Efficiency calculating formula of gasoline and diesel fuel. As result, Density each of sample fuel has a maximum difference roughly 0.9%, net heat value each of sample fuel has difference 1.6%, result of current Energy Consumption Efficiency each of sample fuel has a difference roughly 1% at city drive mode, 1.4% at highway drive mode. Result of use gasoline calculator formula shows less 6% result than nowadays utilizing Energy Consumption Efficiency calculating formula, each of sample's Energy Consumption Efficiency shows maximum roughly 1.4% result in city & highway drive mode.

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the effects light diesel-water emulsified fuel on performance and exhaust emissions of the compression ignition engine. The experimental results of light diesel-water emulsified fuel operation with new type ultrasonic emulsification apparatus as compared with light diesel operation are very positive; maximum 28% reduction of SFC (in the case of 30% of water content), maximum 60% reduction of smoke (in the case of 30% of water content), maximum 79% reduction of CO emission (in the case of 30% of water content). However, comparing light diesel-water emulsified fuel and light diesel in the same engine under the same operating conditions, power and torque were lower in the case of emulsified fuel. In view of the results for the above mentioned, the mixing of water into light diesel in the form of emulsification proved to be the best means for reduction of specific fuel consumption and exhaust emissions of C.I. engines.

  • In the study, the effect of the ultrasonic energy in transportational diesel fuel on the engine performance and exhaust emission has been investigated for indirect injection diesel engine. It was tested to estimated change of engine performance and exhaust emission characteristics for the transportational diesel fuels and the reforming fuels which was irradiated by the ultrasonic energy. The results of the study may be concluded as follows; By the irradiation of ultrasonic energy on the diesel fuel, cylinder pressure, heat release rate and engine power were increased but bsfc, mass fraction burned, and smoke were reduced. Also, the combustion was more stabilized and became complete and NOx was increased.

  • Effects of several different petroleum fractions (LGO, HGO, VGO, Diesel oil, SP(E), HGO-wax, L/M-wax), stepwise addition of calculated amounts of HGO at defined intervals, recycling of spent media on cell growth of Candida tropicalis KIST 351 were studied using $2.5{\ell}$ fermenter by batch process. In addition, continuous cultivation of the yeast was also performed in the light of biomass production using $28{\ell}$ fermenter with LGO. 1) Cell concentration, yield on the basis of gas oil and n-paraffin with the petroleum fractions were in the range of $11{\sim}15g/{\ell}$, $10{\sim}12%$ and $77{\sim}82%$, respectively. 2) By stepwise addition of the gas oil, cell concentration and yield on the oil were increased up to 18.9 g/land 13%, respectively. 3) Spent medium slowed emulsifying ability of hydrocarbon and stimulating effect on the cell growth. Without additional supplementation of $Mg^{++}$ up to 20% of spent medium could be reused, while by adding of the $Mg^{++}$, 50% of medium could be recycled. 4) Optimum condition of continuous cultivation for biomass production was attained at the dilution rate of $D=0.1{\sim}0.125\;hr^{-1}$. Maximum yield coefficient on consumed n-paraffin was 0.94 at $D=0.1\;hr^{-1}$, however, 24% of supplied n-paraffin in the media was not utilized at this dilution rate.

  • 기존의 초음파 노즐은 단판액츄에이터형 초음파 노즐을 사용하여 연체 연료를 분사하였다. 하지만 단판액추에이터형 초음파 노즐은 300V이상의 고전압을 필요로 하여 소비전력이 높은 단점을 가지고 있다. 하지만 적층액츄에이터형 초음파 노즐은 저전압 구동이 가능하여 낮은 소비전력을 가지며, 단판액츄에이터헝 초음파 노즐보다 우수한 분사특성을 가지고 있는 장점이 있다. 또한 공진형 인버터를 사용하여 초음파 노즐을 구동하는 경우 노즐의 구동 전압을 공진에 의하여 쉽게 얻어질 수 있는 장점과 구동 스위치에 가해지는 전압의 크기가 상대적으로 작게되므로 인버터 구동에 저전압 MOSFET를 사용함으로써 도통손실의 저감 및 구성회로의 저압화 등에 유리한 이점이 있다. 본 연구에서는 적층액츄에이터형 초음파노즐을 개발하고 그에 따른 공진형 인버터를 설계하여 적층엑츄에이터형 초음파 노즐의 분사 시스템을 제안 한다. 또한 실제 액체연료인 경유를 분사하여 전기적특성과 분사특성을 조사한다.
