Effect of sliding velocity on the wear and friction characteristics of a carbon fiber composites (탄소 섬유 복합재의 마찰 및 마모 특성에 미치는 속도 효과)

  • This paper presents an experimental study of friction and wear properties of a unidirectional oriented continuous crbon-fiber reinforced epoxy composite at the ambient temperature. Friction and wear experiments were conducted in the three principal sliding direction of the fiber orientation in the composite were selected against the stainless steel counterpart specularly processed were using a pin -on-disc apparatus. Friction coefficient and specific wear rate at various normal loads and sliding velocities wear determined. When sliding took place against smooth and hard counterpart, the hightest were resistance and the lowest friction coefficient were observed in the anti-parallel direction. The wear track of the worn specimens was examined with a scanning electron microscope(SEM) to observe the damaged fibers on the surface. In addition, SEM observations of the worn surfaces allowed to identify the involved different wear mechanisms.

  • Magnetic-electrolytic-abrasive polishing(MEAP) system was newly developed and the finishing characteristics of Cr-coated roller was analyzed. The paper describes the operational principle of MEAP system and magnetic field effect on the MEAP process by experimental results. The finishing characteristics and optimal finishing condition for Cr-coated roller was experimented and analyzed.

  • 연삭가공은 나노스케일(Nano-scale)의 미소한 입자 절삭날을 이용한 가공으로, 공작물의 표면을 경면(Mirror surface)으로 가공할 수 있어 제품의 최종 마무리공정으로 사용되어 왔다. 그러나 연삭공정에 있어서는 공구(연삭숫돌)의 수명이 다하거나 가공계(Machining system)가 불안정해지면 채터진동과 연삭버닝 등의 현상이 발생하여 가공물의 표면품위를 저하시키는 요인으로 작용하고 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 원통플른지 연삭공정을 대상으로 공작물에서 발생하는 음향방출 신호와 연삭기 주축 모터의 동력 신호를 연삭가공 중에 검출하고, 이를 신경회로망에 적용하여 연삭가공 상태를 진단하는 시스템을 구축하고, 그 성능을 평가하였다.

Determination of Efficient Superfinishing Conditions for Mirror Surface Finishing of Engineering Ceramics (엔지니어링 세라믹스의 경면연마를 위한 효율적인 슈퍼피니싱 조건의 결정)

  • The Engineering ceramics have some excellent properties as materials for modern mechanical and electrical components. It is, however, not easy to polish them efficiently because they are strong and hard. This study is carried out to obtain a mirror surface on engineering ceramics by surperfinishing with high efficiency. To achieve this, we conducted a series of polishing experiments using representative engineering ceramics, such as $Al_2O_3$, SiC, $Si_3N_4$ and $ZrO_2$, using diamond abrasive film from the perspective of oscillations peed, the rotational speed of the workpiece, contact roller hardness, contact pressure and feed rate. Furthermore, the polishing efficiency and characteristics for engineering ceramics are discussed on the basis of optimal polishing time and surface roughness. Our results confirmed that efficient superfinishing conditions and polishing characteristics of engineering ceramics can be determined.

Mirror Finishing of Co-Cr-Mo Alloy by Ultrasonic Elliptical Vibration Cutting Method (초음파타원진동절삭가공법에 의한 Co-Cr-Mo 합금의 경면가공)

  • The biocompatibility and the fatigue strength of Co-Cr-Mo alloy are excellent, so it is used well for the material of artificial joints. The head of artificial joint needs mirror surface for reduction of abrasive resistance. Mirror finishing of Co-Cr-Mo alloy with geometrically defined single crystal diamond cutting tools is handicapped by micro chipping of tool edge. In general, it is said that the micro chipping of diamond tool is caused by work hardening of Co-Cr-Mo alloy for the cut. In the present research, mirror finishing of Co-Cr-Mo alloy by applying ultrasonic elliptical vibration cutting was carried out. The experimental results show that the micro chipping of diamond tool was suppressed and the tool wear was remarkably reduced as compared with the ordinary diamond cutting without elliptical vibration motion. It was confirmed that the good mirror surface of maximum surface roughness of 25 nmP-V was obtained for the cutting length of about 14 m. It is expected that mirror finishing of Co-Cr-Mo alloy can be achieved by applying ultrasonic elliptical vibration cutting practically.

Properties of ELID Mirror-Surface Grinding for Single Crystal Sapphire Optics (단결정 사파이어 광학소자의 ELID 경면연삭 가공 특성)

  • This study has been focused on application of ELID mirror-surface grinding technology for manufacturing single crystal optic sapphire. Single crystal sapphire is a superior material with optic properties of high performance as light transmission, thermal conductivity, hardness and so on. Mirror-surface machining technology is necessary to use sapphire as optic parts. The ELID grinding system has been set up for machining of the sapphire material. According to the ELID experimental results, it shows that the surface of sapphire can be eliminated by metal bonded wheel with micron abrasives and the surface roughness of 60nmRa can be gotten using grinding wheel of 2,000 mesh in 4.5um, depth of cut. In this study, the chemical experiments after ELID grinding also has been conducted to check chemical reaction between workpiece and grinding wheel on ELID grinding process. It shows that the chemical reaction has not happened as the results of the chemical experiments.

초정밀가공 기술의 현황과 전망

  • 마이크로 일렉트로닉스(Microelectronics)를 중심으로 하는 산업혁명이 진행되고 있는 시점에서 전자, 광학 또는 신소재 부품에 대한 형상과 치수 또는 표면거칠기에 대한 정확도와 정밀도가 엄격하게 요구되고 있다. 예를 들어 경취 재료인 반도체의 웨이화( w-afer), 수정진동자 자기헷트, 비구면렌즈 또는 연질 금속의 레이저빔(Laser Beam) 프린터 용 포리곤 밀러(Polygon Mirror), 자기디스크, 복사기용 드럼(drum), 레저기기용 반사밀러 등 가공정밀도를 향상시키기 위해서는 과거의 가공기술을 대치할 수 있는 새로운 초정밀가공 기술의 도입이 활발하게 진행되고 있다. 경취성 재료의 초정밀가공은 지금까지는 랩핑(lappi- ng), 폴리싱(polishing)의 가공기술이 주체였으나, 최근의 엄격한 부품정밀도에 대응하기 위하여 전가공을 초정밀 연삭가공으로 평면도,표면거칠기, 가공변질층을 향상시키고 다듬질 가공은 폴리싱으로 하여 표면거칠기를 향상시켜야 하는 가공기술이 보급되고 있다. 일반연질 금속의 다듬질가공은 유리지립을 이용하는 랩핑이나 폴리싱으로 다듬질 가공을 진행하고 있었 으나 형상정도와 표면정밀도를 동시에 얻는다는 것이 어렵고 또 가공시간이 너무 길어서 매우 고가인 것이 되고 말았다. 그러나 유리에서 연질금속으로 재료를 전환시키고 저가격화, 양산 화의 요구, 정밀도 향상과 부품의 안정화 등등 여러 이유로서 다아아몬드(Diamond) 공구로 mirror surface 를 만드는 초정밀 경면연삭 가공기술(precision turning with diamond)의 발달 로 이제는 완전히 새로운 가공기술로 대치되고 말았다. 다이아몬드에 의한 초정밀절삭은 공구 끝이 매우 예리하고 마모가 매우 적은 단결정 다이아몬드를 이용하고 절삭가공 기계는 운동정도 를 피가공물에 정확히 전사 시키는 방법이며 따라서 가공기계는 고도의 운동정밀도가 요구되며 그외에 강성, 진동, 열변이, 제어면에서 엄격한 검도가 있어야 한다.
