Characteristics and Stability of Liquid Crystal Alignment for Interfacial Properties of Polyimide-Liquid Crystal (폴리이미드-액정 계면의 특성에 따른 액정 배향의 특성 및 안정성)

  • How the characteristics and stability of the rubbing-induced alignment of nematic liquid crystals (LCs) relate to the interfacial characteristics of LC-polyimide has been studied. The characteristics of the LC alignment (such as the LC texture, the pretilt angle, and the anchoring energy) and their thermal stability have been investigated for 5 polyimides synthesized for this work. The work showed that the rubbed polyimide alignment layer induces the strong LC anchoring and that the characteristics and stability of LC alignment are determined by the short-ranged interactions between LC and polyimide molecules at the alignment layer surface. The increased flexibility of the polyimide accelerates thermal imidization, increases the pretilt angle, and improves the alignment stability. It also turned out that fluorination of the polyimide tends to deteriorate the alignment uniformity and stability. No distinct differences in the alignment characteristics were shown for the aromatic- and alicyclic-dianhydride polyimides.

Attachment Energy of Janus Particles at Fluid-Fluid Interfaces (유체 계면에서 야누스 입자의 흡착 에너지)

  • In this review, I present the configuration behaviors of various Janus particles at fluid-fluid interfaces. As a model system, Janus spheres, Janus ellipsoids, and Janus dumbbells are selected to investigate the effect of shape, size, and wettability on their configurations. In particular cases, Janus ellipsoids can adopt two distinct configurations (i.e., upright and tilted configurations) due to the presence of two energy minima in the attachment energy profile. On the contrary, a single energy minimum is found in the case of Janus dumbbells such that they adopt either the upright or tilted configuration. Interestingly, the geometric and chemical asymmetry and anisotropy in the characteristic properties of Janus dumbbells lead to an intermediate state in which the particles can rotate freely in a certain range of orientation angles.

  • 무배향 미연신 폴리에틸렌 테레프탈레이트 필름을 수중에서 일축연신 시킨후 연신된 시료의 열자극전류를 측정하여 검토 고찰하였다. 연신에 따른 측정결과 결정화도가 대체로 증가하는 경향이 있으나 연신비 150% 부근에서는 반대로 결정화도가 감소함을 알수가 있었는데 이는 초기인장에 따른 일시적 분자배향의 불안정한 형태로 인한 자유체적의 증가와 더불어 배위 엔트로피가 증가 하기 때문이라고 생각되며 인장된 시료의 밀도측정 및 적외선 스펙트럼분석으로 부터 확인하였다. 그리고 인장비의 변화에 따른 열자극전류의 피이크를 105(.deg.C)부근에서 얻었으며 인장비에 따른 열자극전류의 활성화 에너지를 구한 결과 150%에서 가장 큰 값을 얻었다.

  • The relationship between the orientation of molecules adsorbed on $_TiO2$ and their photoproducts was examined by employing HBPCA (4-hydroxy-biphenylcarboxylic acid) as a model organic pollutant. For this purpose, the Photoproducts after irradiation with UV radiation at various pH were compared by utilizing UV and Raman spectroscopies. It was found from these studies that pH affected the photoproducts probably due to the different orientations of the adsorbed molecules, and that the orientation of the adsorbed molecules and their photoproducts were closely correlated.

  • TiN 박막을 Ti 타겟을 이용하여 Si(001) 기판위에 반응성 RF 마그네트론 스퍼터 방법으로 제조하였다. 반응성 스퍼터링시 온도를 $600^{\circ}C$로 고정하고 $N_2$/Ar비, 공정압력, RF파워를 변화시키면서 박막을 제조하였고 각각의 공정조건에 따른 TiN 박막의 결정성 변화를 XRD, SEM, TEM, HRTEM을 이용하여 조사하였다. 그 결과 TiN 박막은 $N_2$/Ar비가 작을 경우 공정압력이 커짐에 따라 (001) 배향에서 (111) 배향으로 바뀜을 확인하였다. 또한 $N_2$/Ar비가 클 경우는 공정압력이 증가함에 따라(001) 우선 배향성이 향상됨을 확인하였다. 이런 결정성 변화가 전기적 특성에 미치는 영향에 관하여 논의할 것이다.

Changes in Properties of Silk Monofilament Caused by Drawing and Hydrolysis (견 Monofilament의 연신과 가수분해에 의한 특성변화)

  • The middle silk gland, that is a liquid silk thread gland consisting of silk protein, was taken out and a silk monofilament was made by drawing rapidly to approximately 3 times. In order to deteriorate the inter molecular hydrogen bonding force and to stretch in, the drawn silk filament was swoolen in boiling water. The results obtained are as follows ; The silk gland sample that just dried silk gland was occupied in crystalline region of silk-I type and random amorphous region. According to the examination of X-ray diffraction and thermal analysis, silk-II type crystal begins to appear partially in monofilament sample and spread to almost complet silk-II type crystal in 65.2% drawn sample. And, orientation of silk fibroin mlecule increased suddenly in early stage with a rise of drawing ratiofrom birefringence and density, and it was found that orientation of fibroin molecule was completed. As drawing ratio increases relation with time of hydrolysis, birefringence appeared almost fixed a tendency. Crystallization collapse by hydrolysis was not found in X-ray diffraction and thermal analysis. But, amorphous region began to flow by treated hydrolysis, that orientation of crystallization part was disturbed was supposed.

Guide for Processing of Textured Piezoelectric Ceramics Through the Template Grain Growth Method

  • The templated grain growth (TGG) method has gained significant attention for its ability to produce highly textured piezoelectric ceramics with significantly enhanced performance, making it a promising method for transducer and actuator applications. However, the texturing process using the TGG method requires the optimization of multiple steps, which can be challenging for beginners in this field. Therefore, in this tutorial, we provide an overview of the TGG method mainly based on our previous published works, including its various processing steps such as synthesizing anisotropic-shaped templates with size and size distribution control using the molten salt synthesis technique, tape casting, and identifying key factors for proper alignment of the templates in the target matrix system. Our goal is to provide a resource that can serve as a basic reference for researchers and engineers looking to improve their understanding and utilization of the TGG method for producing textured piezoelectric ceramics.

  • 고속방사소재는 연신공정이 없이 6,000m/min이상의 고속방사공정만이 있으므로 원가절감이 되고, 빠른 냉각, 높은 변형속도 등으로 섬유의 결정화도, 분자와 결정의 배향 및 모폴로지(morphology) 변화 등의 기계적 및 섬유상의 특성이 종래의 원사와는 다르게 된다. 방사속도가 증가함에 따라 배향도가 증가하면서 결정영역 또한 증가한다. 또한 기존 연신사에 비해 큰 결정크기를 갖는데 방사속도에 에 따른 방사응력의 증가가 응력유도 결정화도를 유발하여 결정크기 및 결정화도를 증가시키고,따라서 고분자의 용융점도를 고온측으로 이동시키는 현상을 나타내게 한다. 즉, 고속방사에 있어서는 연신에 필요한 임계응력 이상의 과도한 응력이 가해짐으로 인해 결정구조가 일반 연신사에 비해 현저히 발달한다는 것을 알 수 있다. 고속방사 원사를 통일한 조건으로 염색하는 경우 기존의 연신사보다 염착량이 많아 농색으로 염색이 가능하고 염착속도도 빠른 특징을 갖는 데이는 고속방사 원사의 비결정 배향이 낮고 느슨한 구조를 갖기 때문에 염료의 침투가 용이한 것으로 해석되고 있다. PET 섬유는 방사 후 형태안정성을 부여하기 위해서 염색 전처리 공정에서 열을 가하게 된다. 이런 과정에서 섬유의 미세구조가 변하게 되는데,특히 고속방사의 경우 섬유 형성과정이 연신사와는 다르므로 열에 의한 구조 변화와 이에 따른 염색성 변화에 대해 검토해 보는 것은 고속방사의 응용면에서 꼭 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 고속방사소재의 가장 단점인 잔류신도, 저수축현상, stiff감을 보완하면서 고속방사소재의 장점인 심색성을 부각시켜 차별화된 복합사 제조기술을 개발하기 위해 그 기술개발이 기초 연구로서 일반 일반 DTY사와 고속방사소재인 HOY사를 이용한 DTY사의 물성 및 염색 특성을 비교분석 하고자 한다.

A Study on the Enhancement of Corrosion Resistance of Magnesium Alloy by Dry Plasma Process (건식플라즈마 표면처리법에 의한 마그네슘 합금의 내식특성 향상)

  • In these days, there are increasing demands for weight reduction in many industrial fields including marine industries. Therefore, magnesium thin films for lightweight materials were prepared on magnesium alloy substrate. The influence of gas pressure and substrate bias voltages on the crystal orientation and morphology of the films was determined by using X-ray diffraction and FE-SEM, respectively. And the effect of crystal orientation and morphology of the magnesium thin films on corrosion behavior was estimated by measuring electro-chemical anodic polarization curves in deaerated 3% NaCl solution. From the results, corrosion resistance of Mg thin films was improved by controlling the crystal orientation and morphology of the films with effective use of plasma ion plating technique.

Preparation and Crystallization Behavior of Luster Glaze Containing CeO2 (CeO2 함유 러스터 유약 제조 및 결정화 특성)

  • The crystallization behavior of a luster glaze containing ceria has been investigated. When glazed specimens were sintered at 110$0^{\circ}C$, crystalline ceria particles were preferentially precipitated with (100) planes parallel to the specimen surface with the size of around 200 nm. The particle population in the surface region was much higher than inside glaze, covering over 60% of the specimen surface area. Crystallization of the particles with preferred orientation was promoted, after the removal of internal interface through complete melting of the fit particles. The luster effect seems to result from CeO$_2$ particles of high refractive index, their strong light scattering at visible rage due to fine crystalline size 200 nm and their planar arrangement in the surface region.
