Certain lactic acid bacteria have anti-tumor activity, especially colon cancer. The fermented milk products containing that kind of lactic acid bacteria have to be recommended for human health as excellent health functional foods. This paper have been classified by 5 regions on the functions of lactic acid bacteria related to prevention of colon cancer. 1) Enhancing of host's immune response; Production of cytokines. 2) Binding and degradation of potential carcinogens; Binding and degradation of mutagenicity. 3) The changes of intestinal microflora and production of antitumorigenic or antimutagenic compounds; Production of azoxymethane. 4) Alteration of the metabolic activity of intestinal microflora; Decrease of harmful enzymes in intestinal tract. 5) Alteration of physicochemical conditions in the colon; Decrease of pH and bile acids contents.

Leveling colostomy with a frozen-section biopsy in a Hirschsprung's disease is an important factor for a successful procedure. Two neonatal cases of Hirschsprung's disease in the descending colon are reported. In both cases, loop ileostomy was established because of the unavailability of frozen-section biopsy on an emergency basis. At the time of definitive procedure of the first case, transition zone at the splenic flexure was noted and was compatible with the frozen section biopsy. In the second case, an unexpected longer resection at a higher level than transition zone was required because of the poor vascularity after dissection. In conclusion, a leveling colostomy should be selected as a choice in long-segment Hirschsprung's disease. Confirming preservation of the marginal artery of Drummond is particularly important in case of Hirschsprung's disease in the descending colon.

It is generally called that the Dunhuang Manuscript ${\ulcorner}Shanghanlun{\lrcorner}$ (敦煌本 ${\ulcorner}$傷寒論${\lrcorner}$ ) is all the series of documents relating to the Shanghanlun (傷寒論) included in one of the testaments, which was, in 1900, originally found in the Cangjing hole(藏經洞, Mogao cave(莫高窟), Dunhuang(敦煌), Gansu province(甘肅省). I tried to research on the ${\ulcorner}Fuhengjue$ Zangfuyongyao $Fayao{\lrcorner}$ (${\ulcorner}$輔行訣藏府用樂法要${\lrcorner$) in the Dunhuang Testament (敦煌遺書), which include main texts of the ${\ulcorner}Tangyejingfa{\lrcorner$ (湯液經法) upon which the ${\ulcorner}Shanghanlun{\lrcorner}$ (傷寒論) is based, because it seems to be in the category of the Dunhuang Manuscript ${\ulcorner}Shanghanlun{\lrcorner}$ (敦煌本 ${\ulcorner}$傷寒論${\lrcorner}$) in the broadly extended sense.

Colorectal cancer is a leading cause of cancer mortality worldwide. Many studies show that most cases of human colorectal cancer arise from adenomatous polyps, which are usually dysplastic, nonmalignant precursor lesions; however, accumulation of multiple somatic mutations leads some to develop into advanced adenoma, which ultimately progresses to an invasive colorectal cancer. Notwithstanding the efforts made to improve chemotherapy, most colorectal cancers are unresponsive to this form of treatment, and malignant colorectal cancers remain incurable. To reduce the incidence of colorectal cancer mortality, further studies to improve colorectal cancer treatment are needed. Here, we show that Globefish homogenate suppresses the growth of Caco-2 human colorectal cancer cells, and that the homogenate inhibits Caco-2 cell proliferation in a dose-dependent manner. These data suggest that Globefish homogenate may suppress colorectal cancer development.

의사결장지원시스템은 다양한 분야에 적용되어 왔으며, 그 중 수자원 및 수질 관련 분야에도 다각적으로 적용되어 왔다. 본 연구에서는 미 농무성의 자연자원보전국(NRCS, Natural Resources Conservation Service)에서 개발한 유출곡선법(Curve Number Method)과 EMC(Event Mean Concentration)을 사용한 L-THIA(Long-Term Hydrologic Impact Assessment) 수문/수질 모형을 강우자료 데이터베이스, 웹기반 지리정보시스템, 웹 사용자 편의 시스템과 통합한 수문/수질 L-THIA web 의사결정지원시스템을 개발하였다. L-THIA web은 도시계획가나 지방자치단체, 또는 지방의 공동체가 사용할 수 있도록 쉽고 단순한 사용자 편의 시스템을 제공하고 있으며, 미국의 50개 본토의 주와 카운티(County) 이름으로 기상자료와 수문토양분류(Hydrologic Soil Group)을 인터넷 지리정보시스템을 이용하여 제공하고 있다. 본 연구는 지방자치단체 및 지역공동체의 실무자를 사용자로 수문/수질 평가 및 관리를 위한 시스템으로 유용하게 활용될 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

대장내시경검사는 역사적으로 돌아보면 원래 히포크라테스의 치루치료과정에서 직장경 사용으로부터 유래되며 그 후 Kelly의 25 cm 표준 S상 결장경의 발견으로 진전되었고 조명 및 각종 부속기구들이 많이 개선되면서 직장암의 발견에 기여해 왔다. 1911년에 독일 뮌헨의 Michael Hoffman이라는 광학 기술자가 프리즘을 여러 개를 연결하면 직선이 아닌 곡선에서도 빛을 그대로 전달할 수 있다는 사실을 발견하였고 이를 기초로 하여 1958년에 미국에서 Hirschowitz가 처음으로 섬유경(fiberscope)을 선보였고 그 이후 이용한 상부소화관에 대한 내시경 기술이 급속히 발전하기 시작하였고, 이를 기초로 1969년부터 ACMI, Olympus, Fujinon, Pentax 등 세계 유수의 내시경 회사들이 대장내시경을 제작하기 시작하였다. 1983년에 미국의 Welch-Allyn사가 CCD(Charge Coupled Device)라는 집광 장치를 만들어서 마치 내시경의 눈과 같은 작용을 해서 이것을 내시경 선단에 장치하고 전파를 이용하여 영상을 전달하여 이 상이 TV 모니터에 비치는 것을 보게 되는 전자내시경을 개발하여 현재는 상부내시경 뿐 아니라 대장내시경도 대부분이 전자 내시경으로 대체되어서 오늘에 이르고 있다.

Diffuse cavernous hemangioma of the rectosigmoid is a rare lesion usually presented in children and young adult, often with life threatening hemorrhage. The clinical diagnosis is difficult and often delayed because of lack of awareness of the clinical features. We report a case of diffuse cavernous hemangioma of the rectosigmoid in a 12 year old boy who had undergone suture ligation under the impression of hemorrhoid at his age 3. Sphincter saving coloanal pull through procedure were applied as the surgical treatment. Sclerotherapy was needed with recurrent rectal bleeding 6 months after the pull through operation. The patient is well at 12 months follow-up.

We present a case of a colonic involvement associated with necrotizing pancreatitis, with a review of the literature. A 10 year old boy had an appendectomy at the local clinic ten days ago. On admission, he complained nausea, vomiting and severe constipation. His abdomen was distended and he had tenderness on the left abdomen. Laboratory and radiologic studies revealed findings consistent with acute pancreatitis with colonic complication. He was treated conservatively for 30 days but did not improve. On hospital 30th day, abdominal pain developed and his vital sign changed. Abdominal CT suggested ischemic change of the transverse colon. At laparotomy, the left colon showed stenosis. The greatly distended transverse colon was resected and a transverse end colostomy was done. He was discharged at postoperative 45th day with improvement and colostomy closure was performed 8 months later.

Melanosis coli is described as a black or brown discoloration of the mucosa of the colon. Such a discoloration is largely due to pigment granule deposition in macrophages in the colonic mucosa, which arises from anthraquinone-containing laxative abuse. Melanosis coli has usually been reported in the elderly. We present the first case of melanosis coli associated with aloe consumption in a Korean child.
