The double teeth include gemination and fusion. The congenital missing tooth is the absence of the tooth. The purpose of this study was to investigate the prevalence of double teeth and congenital missing teeth in preschool children of Iksan city. The study population consisted of 1,031 children, 569 boys and 462 girls, aged from 17 to 84 months. The double teeth possess a variety of diagnostic and treatment problems. Gemination is the partial splitting of a single bud into two distinct entities that remain joined in a Siamese twin fashion. Fusion is the joining of two buds. Both may be normal, or one may be a supernumerary tooth. Congenital missing is the absence of one or a few teeth. Twenty three(11 boys and 12 girls) of the 1,031 children had double teeth and 17(8 boys and 9 girls) exhibited congenital missing of teeth. The prevalence of double primary teeth was 2.2%. The prevalence of congenital missing teeth was 1.6%. One subject had double teeth and congenital missing tooth at the same time. Of the 17 cases of congenital missing teeth, one girl showed it in the maxilla and aye boys and six girls had them in the unilateral side of the mandible. There were no significant differences in the prevalence of double teeth and congenital missing teeth between the boys and the girls.

The goal of this study was to analyze prevalence and distribution of congenitally missing teeth in 3302 patients from 7 to 15 years old, who had visited and taken panoramic radiographs at the Department of Pediatric Dentistry, from January 2008 to December 2012. The prevalence of hypodontia in the males (5.9%) was slightly higher than in the females (4.7%). In the affected patients, the mean number of congenitally missing teeth in the mandible was statistically higher than in the maxilla (p < 0.05). However, there was no significant difference in the number of congenitally missing teeth between left and right dentitions (p > 0.05). Excluding the Mn. third molars, the most frequent congenitally missing teeth site was the Mn. second premolars. In contrast, the most infrequent congenitally missing teeth sites were the Mx. and Mn. first premolars, and Mx. central incisors. The bilateral combination or antagonistic quadrants combination of congenitally missing teeth in hypodontia patients was 80.3%. The result of this study will contribute to clinicians to make accurate diagnosis and establish favorable treatment plans, by offering invaluable data about the number and distribution of congenitally missing teeth.

The congenital missing of teeth is common, which takes place since the proliferation and differentiation are not allowed in that tooth bud fail to start development. The purpose of this study is to research incidence rate, number, and missing part of congenital missing teeth, and to study whether a person who has missing teeth has other abnormality of teeth or not. For this study, 1,520 subjects(aged 2.9$\sim$17) who had visited pediatric dentist department of Chonbuk national university dental hospital within 2 years were examined with an panoramic radiograph; exempting third molar missing state. The obtained results are as follows. 1. 8.88% among total subjects show missing teeth; male 9.05%, female 8.64% 2. The most frequently missing permanent teeth were the mandibular second premolars(22.3%). The most frequently missing primary teeth are mandibular lateral incisors(50%). 3. 43.3% patients have one permanent missing tooth, 34.3% have two, and 10.4% have more than six, respectively. In primary teeth, 86.7% patients have one missing tooth, and 13.3% have two missing teeth. 4. 18 patients(13.3%) have missing teeth as well as hyperdontia, while some patients have microdont, ectopic eruption, and fusion teeth.

Mesiodens is developmental tooth anomaly which is commonly found in clinical pediatric dentistry. however, it may cause many partial problem in tooth alignment when congenitally missing teeth was accompanied by mesiodens. The terms, concomitant hypodontia and hyperdontia' and oligo-pleiodontia' have been used to describe the condition in witch developmental absence of teeth and supernumerary teeth are present in the same individual. Only a few case reports of this rare condition which is opposite developmental phenomena exist in the literature. The purpose of this study is survey of congenitally missing teeth in mesiodens case and to compare previous literature of congenitally missing teeth in normal. The subjects were 310 children(247 male and 63 female) at the age from 5 to 12 years visiting the Department of Pediatric Dentistry, Pusan National University Hospital with mesiodens for last 3 years. With their pantomograms we studied congenitally missing teeth except permanent 3rd molar. 1. The preference of congenitally missing teeth in mesiodens cases was revealed to be 17.1%(53 out of 310 in total), and there was a higher prevalence in females(22.2%) than in males(15.8%). 2. The most frequently missing teeth were maxillary lateral incisors(22.7%) and mandibular second premolars(22.7%), followed by maxillary second premolar(17.3%), and mandibular lateral incisors(16.0%). There was no significant differences between maxilla(49.3%) and mandible(50.7%). 3. In number of congenitally missing teeth per person, 69.9% had one missing tooth, 22.7% had two missing teeth and 9.4% had three missing teeth.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between morphology and number of deciduous teeth and the occurrence of other dental anomalies in their successors, and to evaluate the necessity of early diagnosis of dental anomalies in the primary dentition. Prevalence of double teeth and congenital missing teeth was investigated in 254(134 boys, 120 girls) panoramic radiographic films, taken by 2 to 7-year-old children in Chonnam National University Hospital from 2000 to 2005. And then it was examined that relationship of anomalies of the primary dentition and their successors. Among them 11 children(6 boys, 5 girls) had double teeth or missing teeth. And prevalence of the double teeth was 1.6% and missing teeth was 3.1%. One subject had double teeth in in the mandible and missing teeth in the maxilla. Of the 11 cases of dental anomalies in primary dentition, 7 cases had congenital missing tooth in their successors. This study suggests that the dental anomalies in the primary dentition induced high prevalence of the congenital missing of permanent successors in the permanent dentition.

Tooth agenesis is a common human dental anomaly and the agenesis of mandibular second premolars has been proven to be the most frequently observed. The aim of this study is to investigate tooth agenesis and delayed tooth development in patients with agenesis of mandibular second premolars. This study reviewed 9 to 15 year-old patients with agenesis of mandibular second premolars who visited the department of pediatric dentistry of Yonsei University Dental Hospital and took panoramic radiographs from January 2014 to December 2016. On panoramic radiographs, agenesis of teeth was observed and developmental delay of teeth was evaluated by the Nolla method. Among 125 patients with agenesis of mandibular second premolars, 58 patients (46.4%) showed agenesis of other teeth and 38 patients (30.4%) showed delayed tooth development. In this study, patients with agenesis of mandibular second premolars were more likely to have tooth agenesis or delayed eruption of other teeth.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the prevalence and distribution of tooth number anomaly by means of the analysis of panoramic radiographs in 6,531 patients visited the Dental Infirmary of Kyungpook National University Hospital from January 1983 to May 1992. The results were as follows: 1. The prevalence of congenitally missing teeth except third molar was revealed to be 10.8%, and there was a hihger prevalence in females(44.6%) than in males(55.4%). Mandibular 2nd premolars(23.2 %) were absent most frequently, followed by maxillary lateral incisors(18.4 %), mandibular lateral incisors(18.3%), and maxillary second premolars(15.4 %) in descending order of frequency. As to the number of congenitally missing teeth, the percentage of missing one tooth was 48%, missing two teeth was 35.4 %, missing three teeth was 6.6%. 2. he prevalence of congenitally missing third molars was revealed to be 39.7%. There was a higher prevalence n the maxilla(60.3%) than in the mandible(39.7%). Maxillary right 3rd molars(30.6%) were absent most frequently, followed by maxillary left 3rd molar(29.7%), mandibular right 3rd molar(202%), mandibular left 3rd molar(19.5%) in descending order of frequency. 3. The prevalence of supernumerary teeth was revealed to be 4.2%, and there was a higher prevalence in males(65.7%) than in females(34.3 ). They were ound most frequently in maxillary central incisor area(64.8%), followed by maxillary lateral incisor area(132%), posterior area of maxillary third molar(8.7%) in descending order of frequency. As to the number of supernumerary teeth; The percentage of one supernumerary tooth was 79.9%, two supernumerary teeth was 8.9%, three supernumerary teeth was 1.2 %.
This study conducted questionnaire survey with 268 workers in Ulsan city to examine influencing factors about Oral behavior and Missing teeth of some workers. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS 12.0 program. The analysis results are as follows. 1. Oral health awareness was highest in thirties (p<0.01). For oral health sensitivity, female was higher than male (p<0.01). The lower the age was (p<0.05) and the higher the academic background was, there was statistically significant difference (p<0.01). 2. The lower the age was (p<0.001) and the higher the academic background was, the number of daily tooth brushing was more (p<0.001) and there was statistically significant difference. 3. The more the number of daily tooth brushing was, portion of Missing teeth was low (p<0.01). When oral hygiene devices such as interdental brush, dental floss etc. were used, portion of Missing teeth was low (p<0.01). When dental visit for prevention was made, portion of Missing teeth was low (p<0.05). In case of periodontal disease, portion of Missing teeth was high so that there was statistically significant difference (p<0.01). 4. There was positive relationship according to oral health awareness and oral health sensitivity, oral health status. The oral health status and Missing teeth had a negative effect relationship. Relationship between number of Tooth brushing and Missing teeth showed negative one. In summary, oral health education is needed to increase the motivation of industrial workers to control their basic dental disease.

Delayed eruption of the first molar, without a generalized or localized cause, is usually associated with delayed development of the affected tooth. The aim of this study was to investigate the clinical features of the first permanent molar showing delayed development and eruption, and its association with developmental anomalies of other teeth. Panoramic radiographs of 40 healthy children showing delayed development and eruption of first permanent molars were analyzed. The clinical features of affected first molars and developmental anomalies of other teeth (except third molars) were evaluated. Delayed first molars were more frequent in the maxilla. The incidence of bilateral delayed development of first molars was greater than that of unilateral cases in female patients. In contrast, male patients showed unilateral delayed development of the first molar more frequently. A higher incidence of congenitally missing teeth was observed in patients with delayed first molar. In each case, delayed development or congenital absence was observed in the second molar adjacent to the delayed first molar. Overall, delayed first molar seems to be associated with congenital absence of additional teeth. Understanding the developmental mechanisms of this phenomenon requires further studies.
