Analysis of the Impact of Initial Carbon Emission Permits Allocation on Economic Growth (초기 탄소배출권 배분이 경제성장에 미치는 영향 분석)

  • The Korean government recently announced greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions reduction target as 30% of 2020 business as usual (BAU) emission projection. As carbon emissions trading is widely used to achieve reductions in the emissions of pollutants, this study deals with the sectoral allocation of initial carbon emission permits in Korea. This research tests the effectiveness of a variety of allocation rules based on the bankruptcy problem in cooperative game theory and hybrid input-output tables which combines environmental statistics with input-output tables. The impact of initial emission permits allocation on economic growth is also analyzed through green growth accounting. According to the analysis result, annual GDP growth rate of Korea is expected to be 4.03%, 4.23%, and 3.67% under Proportional, Constrained Equal Awards, and Constrained Equal Losses rules, respectively. These rates are approximately from 0.69% points to 0.13% points lower than the growth rate of 4.36% without compulsory $CO_2$ reduction. Thus, CEA rule is the most favorable in terms of GDP growth. This study confirms the importance of industry level study on the carbon reduction plan and initial carbon emission permits should reflect the characteristic of each industry.

Microwave Assisted Synthesis of New N1-Substituted 5-Cyano-pyrimidine Derivatives as Potent Antimicrobial Agents (마이크로파를 이용한 강한 항균제인 새로운 N1-치환된 5-Cyano-pyrimidine 유도체의 합성)

  • purpose of the study was to synthesize new series of 5-cyano substituted pyrimidine analogues with different substitutions at N1 and 6 positions and to evaluate them for antibacterial and antifungal activities. The desired compounds were synthesized by tertiary condensation of ethylcyanoacetate, substituted thioureas and suitable aldehyde in presence of potassium carbonate using MORE technique. The antibacterial and antifungal activities were evaluated by cup plate method in the concentration of 25 mg. The zone of inhibition was measured in mm. All the compounds have shown significant antibacterial and antifungal activities. The maximum activity was shown by P1 and P5 against S.aureus and E.coli respectively, while P6 has shown significant activity against all types of microorganisms. The compound P8 has been found to be significantly effective against C. albicans. Norfloxacin and griseofulvin were used as standards to compare the activites of synthesized compounds. It is concluded that analogues containing p-hydroxy, p-methoxy substituted phenyl moiety at 6 position have been found to be more potent against gram-positive microorganisms, while analogues lacking these substituents on phenyl moiety possessed gram-negative activity. The compounds having p-dimethylamino substituent on phenyl moiety at 6 positions have shown moderate activity. Further, only fluorine containing analogue at N1 position was found to possess appreciable antifungal activity. This suggests that electron donating substituent on aryl moiety as well as electron withdrawing substituent at N1 plays important role in determining potency of the compounds.

  • 오존 경보제와 예보제의 실시가 오존 오염에 관한 일반인의 관심을 증폭시키는 중요한 계기가 되었음에도 우리 연구계와 정책 당국의 대응은 이에 훨씬 못미치고 있다. 1990년 이래 학회지 관련 논문 편수는 연간 1∼3편에 그치고 있고, 다른 이차오염 현상과 달리 정책 당국은 여전히 지원을 고려하지 않고 있다. 오존 연구가 뿌리를 내리지 못한 가운데 강행된 경보제와 예보제의 와중에 책임을 떠맡은 지방자치단체는 조급하게 노련한 예보 모델을 찾고 있고 충분한 검토도 없이 외국의 사례에서 대책을 구하고 있다. 논란이 되고 있는 오존 예보의 부정확성은 모델 선택의 문제가 아니라 모델 이용이 잘못된 때문이다. 현재 오존 대책의 일환으로 검토되고 있는 차량 부제 실시와 같은 단기 대책은 역효과를 낼 수 있다는 연구결과도 있다. 선진국의 오존 연구는 도시 규모에서 지역 규모로 확대되고 있고, 구츰 등 액상반응의 효과 규명과 1 kin 이하 미세 변화 모델링이 시도되고 있고, 지구 단위 대류권 실험의 일환으로 태평양 상공의 오존과 오존 전구물질의 대기화학이 조사되고 있다. 우리는 우선 우리의 오존 문제를 정확히 이해하도록 노력하여야 한다 합리적 계획 아래 체계적으로 접근하여 갈 때 당장은 아니지만 우리의 오존에 대한 이해가 깊어갈수록 예보의 정확성은 향상될 수 있다. 많은 비용과 노력이 필요한 오존 대책의 시행은 충분히 신중하여야 한다. 서울과 같은 대도시라면 적합한 수치모델을 구비하여 효과를 점검할 수 있어야 한다. 일부에서는 예보의 정확성을 높일 수 있는 방안의 하나로 수치모델 이용을 거론하고 있으나 수치모델은 매일의 예보와 같이 일상적 목적을 위하여 사용될 수 있는 모델이 아니며, 현재와 같이 기초가 갖추어져 있지 않은 상황에서는 더욱 그러하다. 정상적 모델 이용이 가능할 수 있도록 배출원 자료 체계를 갖추어야 하고, 서을 등 특징적 지역에 대하여서는 집중적 현장 조사를 실시하여야 한다.3)와 NAS(National Academy of Sciences, 1983), 미국에서 발행되는 정부 지침서 (Federal Register)에 고시된 내용 등을 토대로 하였다. 연구는 당면현실로 다가온 정보화 및 세계화의 기업환경에서 예견되는 몰입(committment)의 약화에 대한 치유방안으로서, 정보화된 경영모의게임의 기업 교육훈련 시스템(Business Training System)으로의 발전 가능성을 제시한다 하겠다.암시하며, 따라서 우리 교육문화에 맞는 재택수업 형태의 개발이 시급함을 제시한다고 하겠다.column density of HCaN is (1-3):n1014cm-2. ECTOPIC ERUPT10N OF TRANSPOSED MANDIBULAR PERMANENT LATERAL INCISOR (이소 맹출한 하악 측절치의 교정적 치험례)

  • Ectopic eruption should be understood as a change in the course of the normal eruption path of a dental bud at any moment its origin. An example of this alteration is the dental transposition, a rare and more specific dental anomaly that may be defined as a change of position between two teeth. This case shows ectopic eruption of transposed mandibular lateral incisor beneath primary first molar at the first transitional period of the mixed dentition The crown of the lateral incisor has tipped distally, compelling root resorption and exfoliation of the adjacent primary cuspid and primary first molar. The reason for such eruption is not clearly understood, but it may involve; (1)trauma history, (2)prolonged retention of the deciduous teeth, (3)premature exfoliation of the deciduous teeth, and (4)genetic factor. Treatment is divided into interceptive and definitive treatment. Ectopically erupting mandibular incisor tends to become transposed with the adjacent cuspid and thus seems to warrant early orthodontic intervention. Early treatment may obviate later extraction or transposition of the incisor and canine in the permanent dentition. Timing is an important factor to be considered regarding in the correction of the lateral incisor transposition. This case advocates treatment with an active orthodontic therapy at the early stage of the mixed dentiton, before the eruption of the permanent cuspid.

New Perspectives on the Xiongnu Iron Works based on Archaeological Study (고고학 자료로 본 흉노의 철기문화 -중국 중원계 철기와의 비교를 중심으로-)

  • In China, archaeological research on Xiongnu started later than in foreign countries. In the late $19^{th}$ century, several Russian archaeologists started to study Xiongnu's archaeological culture. However, since the late $20^{th}$ century, archaeological research of the Xiongnu in China quickly gained speed. The Xiongnu culture has been reported in Mongolia, northern steppe of China and eastern part of Eurasian steppe. Mainly, Xiongnu sites, dated from the late 2nd century B.C. to the 1st century A.D., are reported on the west side of Baikal Lake(Zabaikal), Mongolia and the Inner Mongolia of China. Based on the historical records and the archaeological remains, the North Xiongnu culture is defined to be the remains of Zabaikal, and the South Xiongnu culture the archaeological remains of Northern China. The expelled North Xiongnu, while fleeing to the western part of Eurasia, left traces of their own archaeological remains in southern Kazakhstan, Xinjiang of China, Altai, and finally appeared in the Europe as Huns. In order to adapt to the environment of northern steppe of China, Xiongnu used a nomadic economic system, giving uniqueness to its iron works. The most characteristic iron works of the Xiongnu is the highly-sophisticated iron weapons. Compared with the iron works of agricultural economic society, Xiongnu iron-works are short of production tools and various vessels. The "Nomadic type" iron works found in Xiongnu area date back to the Warring Country period or slightly later. Further research need to be conducted on "Nomadic type" Xiongnu iron works.

Current status and prospects of chitosan for industrial applications (키토산 관련 산업의 현황과 전망)

  • For the development of the chitosan industry in Korea, the catch of red snow crabs caught on the east coast is rapidly decreasing. Therefore, it is urgent to develop raw materials that can replace the red snow crab as the top priority to solve the supply and demand problems, as well as wastewater treatment costs account for a large proportion of the cost of chitosan. In order to solve the problems, continuous research on biological extraction methods such as enzymatic extraction and microbial fermentation will increase production efficiency and lower unit cost as well as chemical extraction methods. Further efficient manufacturing method can be established. Establishing of novel techniques is indispensable for production of high-purity chitosan and the ability to regulate and separate the molecular weight, as well as joint research with industry, academia and research institute for the research and development of high-functional chitosan derivatives.

Phosphodiesterase III Inhibitor Cilostazol Protects Amyloid β-Induced Neuronal Cell Injury via Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptor-γ Activation (Amyloid β에 의해 유도된 신경세포 손상에 대한 phosphodiesterase III inhibitor인 cilostazol의 신경보호 효과)

  • The neurotoxicity of aggregated amyloid ${\beta}$ ($A{\beta}$) has been implicated as a critical cause in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease (AD). It can cause neurotoxicity in AD by evoking a cascade of apoptosis to neuron. Here, we investigated the neuroprotective effects of cilostazol, which acts as a phosphodiesterase III inhibitor, on $A{\beta}_{25-35}$-induced cytotoxicity in mouse neuronal cells and cognitive decline in the C57BL/6J AD mouse model via peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR)-${\gamma}$ activation. $A{\beta}_{25-35}$ significantly reduced cell viability and increased the number of apoptotic-like cells. Cilostazol treatment recovered cells from $A{\beta}$-induced cell death as well as rosiglitazone, a PPAR-${\gamma}$ activator. These effects were suppressed by GW9662, an antagonist of PPAR-${\gamma}$ activity, indicative of a PPAR-${\gamma}$-mediated signaling. In addition, cilostazol and rosiglitazone also restored PPAR-${\gamma}$ activity levels that had been altered as a result of $A{\beta}_{25-35}$ treatment, which were antagonized by GW9662. Furthermore, cilostazol also markedly decreased the number of apoptotic-like cells and decreased the Bax/Bcl-2 ratio. Intracerebroventricular injection of $A{\beta}_{25-35}$ in C57BL/6J mice resulted in impaired cognitive function. Oral administration of cilostazol (20 mg/kg) for 2 weeks before $A{\beta}_{25-35}$ injection and once a day for 4 weeks post-surgery almost completely prevented the $A{\beta}_{25-35}$-induced cognitive deficits, as did rosiglitazone. Taken together, our findings suggest that cilostazol could attenuate $A{\beta}_{25-35}$-induced neuronal cell injury and apoptosis as well as promote the survival of neuronal cells, subsequently improving cognitive decline in AD, partly because of PPAR-${\gamma}$ activation. The phosphodiesterase III inhibitor cilostazol may be the basis of a novel strategy for the therapy of AD.

The Minimal Range of a Lymphadenectomy in Gastric Cancer according to an Analysis of Sentinel Lymph Node and Solitary Lymph Node Metastasis (위암 환자에서 감시 림프절 및 고립 림프절 전이에 근거한 최소 림프절 절제에 대한 재고)

  • Purpose: The incidence of nodal metastases is as low as 2 to $20\%$ in early gastric cancer, so there is a trend to lessen the extent of surgery. In addition, the adequate range for a lymphadenectomy is controversial, especially in early gastric cancer. In this study, we tried to find the minimal range for a lymphadenectomy by analyzing sentinel-node and solitary lymph-node metastases in gastric cancer. Materials and Methods: The total of 78 patients who underwent a curative gastrectomy with a D2 lymphadenectomy for early gastric cancer between 2000 and 2002 in the Department of Surgery, Yonsei University, Seoul, Korea, were included for the evaluation of sentinel-node metastases.. After a laparotomy, 25 mg of indocyanine green was mixed in 5 ml of normal saline, and all the dye was injected into the subserosal layer around the primary tumor. All nodes stained within 5 minutes were marked. In addition, a total of 141 patients, who underwent a curative gastrectomy between 1997 and 2001 at the Department of Surgery, Yonsei University, Seoul, Korea, were analyzed for solitary lymph- node metastases. Results: Among the 78 patients, sentinel nodes were detected in 69 patients ($88.5\%$). The sentinel nodes in 60 cases ($87.0\%$) were located in the perigastric area. However, 9 cases ($13.0\%$) had sentinel nodes in the N2 group. In the 141 cases that had a solitary metastatic node, 125 cases ($88.6\%$) demonstrated the metastatic lymph node in the perigastric area, and 16 cases ($11.4\%$) showed that the metastatic node in the N2 group. Conclusion: Taken together, removal of a perigastric lymph node could miss early metastases in gastric cancer, so a D1 lymphadenectomy should not be the minimal range of dissection if a lymphadenectomy is necessary. Perception on food allergy labelling and management of nutritional education among higher grade elementary school students in Jeju area (제주지역 초등학교 고학년 학생들의 식품알레르기 유발표시제에 대한 인식도 및 영양교육 운영 실태 조사)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the prevalence of food allergy, food allergy knowledge, and perception on food allergen labelling along with management of substitute meals in school foodservice in elementary school students in Jeju, South Korea. Methods: Six elementary schools in Jeju-si were randomly selected, and the higher grade elementary school students (n=1,500), from fourth graders to sixth graders, were surveyed using a questionnaire in July 2014. A total of 1,000 responses were used for data analysis. Results: The percentage of students who had experienced food allergy was 16.7%; 26.4% had been diagnosed as having a food allergy by doctors. Milk, crabs, and shrimps were the most frequent allergenic foods with common symptoms including urticaria followed by itching, and vomiting. As the student's grade went up, the knowledge scores on food allergy showed a significant increase. Although students with and without food allergy experience had a similar level of knowledge on food allergy and perception on food allergen labelling, students with food allergy experience had a significantly lower level of healthy dietary practices. Last, only 20.4% of students with food allergies were offered substitute meals by school foodservices, and 30.8% of students received food allergy education. Conclusion: For prevention and management of food allergies in school foodservice, schools should provide an individualized substitute meal plan and food allergy education to students, parents, and teachers.

Pharmacological Action Mechanism(s) of Vasodilator Effect of Calcitonin Gene-related Peptide in Rat Basilar Arteries (흰쥐의 뇌 기저동맥에서 CGRP에 의한 혈관 이완반응의 기전에 대한 연구)

  • In the present study, we observed change in intracellular $Ca^{2+}$$([Ca^{2+}]_i)$ as measured with the fluorescent $Ca^{2+}-indicator$ fura-2 in association with force development of the rat basilar arteries during activation by$K^+$ depolarizing solution and U46619, a thromboxane analogue, in the absence and the presence of calcitonin-gent related peptide (CGRP). CGRP (30 and 100 nM) caused a concentration-dependent inhibition of U46619-induced contraction with decrease in $[Ca^{2+}]_i$, whereas it did not exert any effect on the $K^+$ (90 mM)-induced contraction and increase in $[Ca^{2+}]_i$, Further, $[Ca^{2+}]_i-force$ relationships were determined by plotting the ratio of $F_{340}/F_{380}$ $([Ca^{2+}]_i)$ as a function of the force induced by U46619, and the results were compared with those obtained in the presence of CGRP. The curves obtained in the presence of CGRP (30 and 100 nM) were significantly moved to downward without right shift of the curves suggesting that CGRP inhibited the U46619-induced contraction only by mediation of reduction in $[Ca^{2+}]_i$ with out any change in the sensitivity of contractile apparatus to $Ca^{2+}$. The CGRP-induced attenuation of $[Ca^{2+}]_i$ and force development was significantly inhibited under pretreatment with CGRP $(8{\sim}37)$ fragment (100 nM), a CGRP1 receptor antagonist. Both the reduced contraction and reduction in $[Ca^{2+}]_i$ caused by CGRP were fully reversed by pretreatment with charybdotoxin (100 nM) and iberiotoxin (100 nM), large conductance $Ca^{2+}-activated$ $K^+$ channel blockers, but not by apamin (300 nM), a small conductance $Ca^{2+}-activated$ $K^+$ channel blocker, and glibenclamide ( 1 ${\mu}M$), an ATP-sensitive $K^+$ channel blocker. In conclusion, it is suggested that the CGRP1 receptor, upon activation by CGRP, are coupled to opening of $Ca^{2+}-activated$ $K^+$ channel and cause to decrease in $[Ca^{2+}]_i$, thereby leading to vasodilation of the rat basilar artery. However, it is not defined that the mechanism underlying vasodilation whether the $K^+$ channel blockers, charybdotoxin and iberiotoxin directly block the CGRP receptors and that CGRP-evoked relaxation is dependent on the cyclic AMP or $K^+$ channel opening or both actions.
