  • With development of 3D virtual space technology, diverse studies on 3D virtual space are being conducted because virtual space is being recognized as an appropriate technology for the field of urban and architectural design. However, while the process of urban and architectural design is done based on collaboration of various interested parties, there is lack of studies that support such collaboration. Communication within the virtual space must be provided for 3D virtual space to support collaboration, and a quick and direct technique of expressing one's intentions is required. sketch technique is effective. Ambiguous lines of sketch are extremely effective in that the range of thoughts in the idea stage can be broadened. However, such traditional sketch technique alone is difficult to support collaboration in 3D virtual space. That is because diverse shapes of 3D space require input of sketch. Accordingly in this study, sketch annotation that can effectively deliver intentions in 3D space was studied. Annotation technique using sketch-box was examined.

  • Unlike the extrinsic Modern Functionalist, Louis I. Kahn, a modern American architect, had been pursued intrinsic architectural nature based on historicity; The Essence of Architecture, during his lifetime. That is the reason why he is generally called as one of frontiers toward Post-Modern Architecture. However, the actual meaning of his 'The Essence of Architecture' is so vague and unclear until today, because not only his complex personal thought and career but various and subjective interpretation by so many later architects and architectural theorists. In the context, this paper attempt to reanalyze and clarify Kahn's idea of 'The Essence of Architecture' with the deep and objective view of aesthetics focused on a distinguished contemporary German philosopher, N. Hartman's idea of phenomenological relation and the stratified structure of a work of art.

  • The light is one of the most important factors in architectural design. Especially, natural light is the valuable source of illumination that can be utilized for better indoor environment. Compared to artificial light, it is a sustainable energy source without the cost of electric energy and offers a more natural feeling to residents stayed in buildings. Natural light also creates light and shadow in building. It enables people to perceive the depth of space. Many architects have tried to suggest various technologies to create optimum indoor environment by using the natural light. Therefore, this paper tried to examine the works of Le Corbusier and to analyze how to control the light in his works and apply it to his design. It will help to know how he created different characteristics to spaces by using natural light.

  • 실내 음향특성의 컴퓨터 씨뮬레이션 기법은 모형실험 기법과 더불어 건축물의 음향설계 분야에서 널리 사용되는 도구이다. 본 연구에서는 건축물의 음향특성을 설계단계에 예측하기 위해 영상법에 기초한 실내음향 해석 소프트웨어를 개발하였다. 개발된 소프트웨어는 건축물의 3차원 형상모델, 벽면등 반사체의 흡음특성, 음원과 수음점의 위치 등의 데이터를 입력하면, 음선의 전파경로, 수음위치에서의 반사음 패턴, 실내 음향 특성의 평가척 (음의 명료도, 잔향시간 등)을 산출하여 출력하는 기능을 지니고 있다. 기존의 씨뮬레이션 기법이 소요 장비나 비용, 시간적 제약으로 널리 실용화되기 어려웠던 점을 고려하여 PC급에서 간편하게 활용할 수 있도록 개발하였고 음선 전차경로의 그래픽 표현, 반사음 패턴의 분석등, 건축물의 음향 설계를 위한 기능을 부여하는데 중점을 두었다.

  • The Tabernacle was Personally designed by God and was ordered from God to Moses to build it as the first Piece of church architecture that accurately showed God's love and will of salvation towards humankind. Tabernacles, through the architecture of tabernacles teaches the Lord being among us. His Holiness and man's sins, and also reflects the path of eternity as well as the good news and salvation through Jesus Christ. And the Tabernacle is talking of the Glory of New Jerusalem that is provided Kingdom of Heaven for us at the same time being a completion of a final and ultimate church constructed long predicted through the Bible being already designed by God. The external expression of modern architecture may follow the uniqueness of that age but the special quality of the interior and exterior symbolism of church architecture will have to consist the standards of God for He is the first, sincere designer.

  • This study tries to find how architects interpret and express fashion brand images. First, it examines the concept of brand images and its architectural expression of them in contemporary commercial architecture. Second, it investigates the brand strategies and architectural expression strategies of world-famous fashion brand companies such as Prada and Louis Vuitton. Third, it finds out architects' expression of the brand strategies focusing on Rem Koolhaas, Herzog & do Meuron, Jun Aoki, Barthelemy-Grino, Kumiko Inui. In conclusion, architects have their own expression tools for fashion brand images but the extent of expression vanes according to each brand strategy.

  • This study explores the relationship between the expression of material Sensibility properties and the meaning of tectonic in the architectural space of Kengo kuma. First of all, It can be derived that The sensibility of the material is based on phenomenological meaning of the tectonic after modern architecture that also Kengo kuma has been aware of. So it derived characteristics of sensibility by material expression and meaning from the Kengo kuma's works including critical books and collection of architecture works. All derived characteristics consist of sub-sections of the case analysis to figure out correlation with expression of Material Sensibility and tectonic meaning at the Kengo kuma's works. At the ends, it was analyzed through the relationship chart.

  • This study is about the meaning of wooden brackets that are distinctive elements of wooden architecture in Korea, Japan, and China. Existing studies about wooden brackets have been limited to the boundary of formalism, so the object of this study is to make a breakthrough in the field of those studies. The Wooden brackets in this study are considered to be decorative elements, and the principles of their design are examined. The specific subject of the study is wooden architecture with Jusimpo-styled brackets that have brackets only on pillars. The definition of Jusimpo is reexamined first, and ChulMok-Ikkong which has not been regarded as a Jusimpo-styled wooden bracket is interpreted as Jusimpo-styled one in this study. Categorized into three types, Jusimpo is examined how it is expressed according to the type of the roof in a building. In view of the results, the wooden bracket system is an effective technique to express the formality, and two designing principles can be seen in Jusimpo; one that wooden brackets observed externally are standardized and regarded as the same ones, and the other that the style of wooden brackets used in the most formal building is Yi-ChulMok. These designing principles mean that the carpenter who was in charge of building the architecture had certain principles when expressing wooden brackets as well as the roofs according to the class of the architecture. In addition, although the styles of wooden brackets that were used in the most formal architecture during the Chosun period were mostly Dapo, Jusimpo in the form of Yi-ChulMok was also adopted in some temples depending on their scale, and that means Jusimpo-styled wooden brackets were never considered to be inferior to Dapo-styled ones. And this point leaves the argument that the reexamination of Jusimpo-styled wooden brackets which have been regarded as the style used in the attached building or small structures since the Choun dynasty should be conducted.

Construction Design 3D Modeling in Smart Phone (스마트폰에서 건축설계 3D 모델링)

  • This paper was aimed to represent 3D design process to enable the construction design in a smart phone. The construction design was done in pattern units, by composing construction materials in components first, followed by assembling the components in pattern. Four types of views were constructed and each function was described to enable construction design in mobile environment. In addition, the skills needed for each view were described in detail through the libraries used. The process and calculation results were shown in mobiles how each view performed its function and behave worked together with a complementary way based on this implementation technique.

Construction of Metadata Format and Ontology for Religious architecture heritage Information (종교유적 건축물 정보의 메타데이터 구성과 온톨로지 구축)

  • Although organizing standardized metadata is important for effective management of cultural heritage information, current metadata are represented differently according to the properties of the resources or objectives of the organizations in which they are accumulated. This research compared 6 different metadata formats and created 18 data elements for constructing databases. A religious architecture heritage information database was constructed based on 72 historic religious architectures, each composing of three parts. An ontology based on religious architecture heritage information was designed using a revised CIDOC-CRM, and was developed with a semi-automated corpus program.
