The purpose of this study is to suggest implications from the case of health information service for patients in overseas hospital libraries. A total of 89 overseas hospital libraries were selected, including general hospitals, specialized hospitals, women's hospitals, children's hospitals, and veterans' hospitals. The health information service that is provided in general and common in 89 hospital libraries was surveyed and the differentiated health information service was investigated next. As a result, first, it can be seen that the establishment of hospital libraries and the provision of health information services are common outside of Korea. Second, various human resources such as librarians, health information specialists, medical specialists, social workers, clinical librarians, health education specialists, and volunteers are utilized. Third, it provides not only print materials but also various information sources such as electronic materials, websites, pamphlets, brochures, and provides health information in various languages. Fourth, in providing health (information literacy) education and programs, services are provided through linkage with hospitals, local public libraries, and local communities. The implications for domestic hospital libraries are as follows: First, the change of awareness of the establishment of hospital libraries and the provision of health information services; second, the support of the curriculum and associations and the need for continuing education; third, it is necessary to link with related organizations for mandatory and diversification of health information services in hospital libraries.

The purpose of this study is to understand information behavior of older adults with diabetes. After reviewing previous research, related factors are identified and a questionnaire was devised. The structured interview was administered to the aged 60 and over in the B hospital (N=543). Data about awareness of the disease, health literacy, information environment, information need, information seeking, information use, information service, and personal background are collected and analyzed descriptively. Relationship between variables are examined and hypotheses are tested to find factors affecting information behavior. The level of the awareness of the disease and health literacy appeared to be low. It is proved that awareness of the disease is a factor affecting information need and information use. Health literacy affects information use. There is a statistical significant difference between information need and information use by disease education and duration. There is also a statistical significant difference between information use among groups divided by information environment, sex, age, and education. Based on the results, campaign to raise disease awareness, marketing promotion about information support facilities, customized information service for older adults are suggested.

The purpose of the research is to investigate general citizens' information needs, seeking and uses about both disaster and health information in the middle of disaster of COVID-19 pandemic: what kinds of information they need, what kinds of information sources they use, which channels and media they use to learn the information, etc. To achieve the goal, the study conducted an online survey for general citizens over the age of 20. The survey is composed of 45 questions including four topics-demographic characteristics, information seeking behavior on both disaster and health, and the roles of public information organizations such as libraries in the middle of disaster. On the basis of the results, the research discusses and suggests that what kinds of information should be supplied and in what manners, and which media or information systems should be used when the governments or public organizations provide the information regarding disaster and health, and what roles public information organizations such as libraries should play in the middle of disaster.
This study is a literature review analyzing the characteristics of biophilic design in health and welfare facilities for the elderly, children, and adolescents. Studies on biophilic design in such facilities were selected from two Korean databases. Eight studies were analyzed based on biophilic design elements, and the characteristics of biophilic design were compared between facilities for the elderly and those for children/adolescents. Elderly facilities exhibited more patterns of 'direct experience of nature' than their counterparts, while children/adolescents' facilities displayed more patterns of 'space and place experience' compared to facilities for the elderly. The pattern of 'indirect experience of nature' was similar for both the elderly and children/adolescents. We suggest utilizing more 'direct experience of nature' patterns, such as natural light and water, to reduce stress in vulnerable children and younger individuals. Additionally, incorporating more 'experience of space and place' patterns may help reduce stress and enhance the cognition of older individuals.
Purpose: This study was conducted to identify differences in dietary behaviors, dietary life consumer education related situation competencies, and dietary lifestyles between baby-boom and echo generations by gender. Methods: Data were drawn from the 2016 Food Consumption Behavior Survey, and 2,474 subjects (baby-boom generation 1,304; echo generation 1,170) were selected. Results: The baby-boom generation more frequently ate meals at home with family than the echo generation, whereas the echo generation had meals more frequently at cafeterias, cafes, bakeries, convenience stores and with friends or colleagues than the baby-boom generation. However, no significant differences in dietary life related consumer education were observed between generations, and experience with food related consumer education and food related promotional/events was very low in general. Baby-boomers received their primary dietary information from surrounding people, whereas the echo generation received it from broadcasting. The information use competence was lower for the baby-boom generation (3.29) than echo generation (3.35), although this difference was not significant. Healthy dietary life competence did not differ significantly, whereas the baby-boom generation showed a higher level of practice competence than the echo generation. Additionally, the baby-boom generation was more likely to pursuit health and less likely to be concerned with convenience and taste quality than the echo generation. Conclusion: The frequencies of meal eating places, drinking, and eating-out differed significantly between the two generations, while the participation ratios of food related consumer education/events, attitudes toward education, and information use competence did not. Additionally, knowledge regarding healthy dietary life competencies did not differ, whereas practice level showed significant differences between generations. Among dietary lifestyles, the baby-boom generation showed higher pursuit of health and lower pursuit of convenience and taste quality than the echo generation.
The purpose of this study is to understand immigrant women's knowledge of menstruation, attitude towards menstruation and knowledge of contraception. The study employed a descriptive survey. The participants were 120 married immigrant women in Chonnam area. Data were collected through questionnaire and interview from July to December, 2009. The participants had average score in knowledge and attitude of menstruation and knowledge for contraception. There were statistically significant differences in knowledge of menstruation according to nationality, level of satisfaction with current lifestyle, perceived health status, number of children desired, and sources of contraceptive information. There were statistically significant differences in attitude towards menstruation according to age, nationality, perceived health status, and number of children desired. There were statistically significant differences in knowledge of contraception according to level of education, nationality, and dysmenorrhea. According as the attitude toward menstruation increased, the knowledge for contraception decreased. The results of this study suggest a need for multidimensional strategy to raise knowledge of menstruation and contraception for married immigrant women.

Due to the growth of people's use of the Internet as well as interests in health, people's needs of health information have rapidly increased in public libraries. Nevertheless, there are few studies in Korea about users' needs for health information and services that public libraries can offer to support these user groups. In the current study, a comprehensive literature review was conducted in order to understand the role of public libraries and librarians in serving users with health information and to identify the types of consumer health information(CHI) services available to users in public libraries. As for the CHI services that public libraries can offer for users, the current study emphasizes and discusses the directions and guidelines for improving the following six approaches: 1) CHI collection and information resource building, 2) CHI reference services, 3) CHI user education and training program development, 4) CHI services for minority/disability/cultural diversity groups of users, 5) CHI outreach program development, and 6) CHI network development with medical libraries, academic libraries, hospital, and medical institutions and associations. Although most of the discussion in the current study centers on cases and services provided in the United States or other countries, findings would be used to inform the importance of CHI services in public libraries, and to design and develop CHI services in Korea.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the research published in Korea on the live atrium of Toegye Lee Hwang and present its applicability as a health dance program. To this end, Korean academic journals, the Korean Institute of Information Scientists and Engineers, and DBpia searched Korean journal publications with the keyword 'active visit', and 24 articles published from 1974 to December 2018 were classified into the Korean Research Foundation.According to the criteria, they were classified and analyzed into subclasses. As a result, first, the research trends of academic disciplines by year tended to increase the participation of various academic disciplines in the atrium. The interests of the live atrium differed in the order of physical education.Second, in terms of research subjects, more researches attempted to identify active atria as a research topic than research suggesting a plan.Third, the trends of the research topics were in order to study academic definition of live atrium, to find out the relationship between live atrium and other disciplines, to propose ways to use them, and to develop programs.Fourth, by applying the live atrium to a dance program, we found the potential as a dance program for health promotion. It is expected that these findings will not only provide the basic data for the possibility of a health dance program integrated with various fields, but also contribute to the search for the direction of health dance program research.
Depression in old age not only is prevalent but also causes a considerable amount of burden in physical, psychosocial, and economic terms. Intervention, however, is often delayed due to the understanding that considers depressive symptoms as a normal process of aging or signs of physical illnesses. Since the recognition of symptoms often initiate one's help seeking process, a correct identification of symptoms can contribute to early detection and intervention to depression in oneself as well as in others. This study interviewed 104 older adults living in an urban area, and explored their ability to correctly identify depressive symptoms and factors related to identification. The study results show that respondents who were able to correctly identify symptoms of depression were only 14%, and the rest defined the symptoms as social, economic, and other psychological issues. Of the factors in the logistic regression model, age being 75 and over and mass media as source of mental health information affected negatively their ability to correctly identify symptoms; mental health education programs affected positively their ability. Based on these results, it is suggested that such strategies as employing a face-to-face provision of concrete information and counseling can be more effective than delivering information via large-scale lectures. Additionally, a future research deems necessary to conduct an in-depth examination of mental health/illness-related contents on mass media.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to classify the patterns of health behaviors of some rural residents in Korea by sub-grouping them into populations with similar patterns of diet quality, physical activity, alcohol consumption and cigarette smoking, and then to investigate the relationship between these health behavior patterns and health status or health management of them. Methods: The study subjects were 722 rural residents above 20 years old on a typical rural district in Korea, and the data used in this study was from the survey data for health planning of a health center. Study questionnaire for this survey was developed from modifying the questionnaire for 'National Nutrition and Health Study' conducted in 1998. To classify health behavior patterns, cluster analysis was conducted. And to test the association of health behavior patterns with health status or health management, multiple logistic regression analysis were conducted. Results: The results and their implications of this study were as follows: 1. We identified six health behavior typologies : 67.8% of the sample had a good diet quality but showed sedentary activity level(good diet lifestyle) and 10.9% had heavy smoking behavior(smoking lifestyle). Individuals included in fitness lifestyle cluster(6.2%) had high physical activity level and those in drinking life style(2.6%) had had mainly large amount of alcohol. Zero point six percent of sample were included in hedonic lifestyle cluster, who showed poor health behaviors in all. Those included in passive lifestyle(11.9%) had no active health promoting activities but tended to avoid risk taking health behavior such as cigarette smoking and alcohol drinking. 2. As a result of logistic regression analysis, to compare with the individuals in good diet lifestyle, the prevalence of chronic diseases of those in fitness lifestyle showed higher and that of those in smoking lifestyle, drinking lifestyle, hedonic lifestyle, passive lifestyle showed lower than them, retrospectively. 3. Adjusting with general characteristics and health status, to compare with the individuals in good diet lifestyle, the proportion of those who had good health management practices in fitness lifestyle was higher, and the proportion of those who had health check in past 2 years was lower than them, retrospectively. Conclusions: There were some differences in health behavior patterns between rural population and national population, which influenced significantly on health status and health management practice of them. We suggested that the health promotion program for them be developed with considering these points.
