  • This study investigated the relevancy between the subjective awareness and the level of knowledge of oral health by surveying oral health management behaviors of elderly citizens over 60 years old in certain areas. The survey was conducted from September 1 to December 30, 2016 among the elderly aged 60 or older in the GyeongBuk, and 442 responses were used in the data analysis. The statistical analysis methods were frequency analysis, t-test and ANOVA analysis. The subjective oral health awareness in accordance with oral health management behaviors were higher in the groups who brush their teeth better and for longer duration (p<.05), where the oral health knowledge level in accordance with oral health management behaviors were higher in the groups who received toothbrushing training (p<.05). Based on the above results, the subjective oral health awareness and the oral health knowledge level of elderly citizens should be improved through continuous educations for ideal oral health management behaviors in order to promote oral health of elderly citizens.

  • This study aimed to examine bone health awareness and knowledge and the bone mass-improving behaviors of female nursing college students. The subjects were 172 nursing students attending nursing colleges. The data were collected from March 16 to April 4, 2020, by using bone health awareness, bone health knowledge, and bone mass-promoting behavior assessment tools. Descriptive statistics are presented, and t-tests, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, and multi-regressions were used for data analysis. Students' bone health awareness was 1.79, bone health knowledge was 8.86, and bone mass-promoting behavior level was 2.78. There were significant negative correlations between bone mass-promoting behavior level and age of menarche (r = 0.21, p = .004) and sun exposure (r = 0.44, p < .000). Also, bone mass-promoting behavior level and knowledge of bone health were negatively correlated (r = 0.21, p = .005). Regression analysis showed that knowledge of bone health (β = 0.21, p = .005), age of menarche (β = 0.20, p = .005), and sun exposure (β = 0.38, p < .000) were significant predictors of bone mass-promoting behaviors and their variance explanation power was 20.6%. Based on these results, education to improve knowledge of bone health will help to improve bone health and increase bone mass-promoting behaviors among young women.

  • This study aims to measure oral health knowledge and practice level among dental clinic patients, and examine their relationships with decayed, missing and filled teeth (DMF) index and the oral health-related quality of life (QOL). Empirical data have been collected from 311 patients through structured questionnaires and dental examinations conducted in Busan area. According to the analysis of causal relationship, oral health knowledge turned out to have a direct effect on oral health practices, which exerted both direct and indirect effects on DMF index and oral health-related QOL. While DMF index directly affected the oral health-related QOL, oral health knowledge proved to have only an indirect effect on DMF index and oral health-related QOL, mediated by oral health practices. Considering all these findings, effective oral health education and other intervention programs should focus on motivating people to participate in the active practices of desirable oral health behaviors, which will lead to the prevention of oral diseases and the subsequent improvement in the QOL.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of knowledge and risk perception of coronavirus disease-2019 on preventive health behavior among nursing students. The survey participants were 291 students in A city. Data were collected using self-report questionnaires between August 1 and 20, 2020. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression in SPSS ver. 18.0. Knowledge of COVID-19 was significantly dependent on age and school records. Risk perceptions were significantly dependent on educational grades. Age, health status, knowledge, and risk perception had significant effects on preventive health behavior, which was found to be positively correlated with knowledge and risk perception. Stepwise multiple regression analysis revealed that age significantly predicted preventive health behavior (β=.188, p<.01), health status (β=-.245, p<.001), knowledge (β=.254, p<.001), and risk perception (β=.191, p<.001) that it accounted for 18.9% (F=17.904, p<.001) of the variance. An educational program is required to enhance the preventive health behavior of nursing students in a background of COVID-2019 that considers student age, health level, knowledge, and perception of risk.
