  • Caused by the Cheonanham attack and the Yeonpyeongdo bombardment occurred a few years ago, and the recent North Korea's nuclear test, the war crisis between South and North Korea has been increasing. Accordingly, an interest in obtaining a temporary residential space, for the case of the outbreak of war, where people can reside safely over a period of time has been escalating. However, in the disaster relief planning guidelines of the National Emergency Management Agency, the standards on the temporary residential spaces in preparation for storm and flood or earthquake are included, but the standards on the ones in responding to war are not yet equipped. In particular, the standards on the underground temporary residential spaces that can accommodate massive victims should be developed in preparation. In this study, through a requirements analysis based on the survey of war victims and a comparative analysis between disaster-related laws and regulations, the direction of relevant system improvement for the utilization of temporary residential spaces in responding to war is established.

The residential facilities in this study include large scale residential facilities where many residents live and a group home where a few residents live. This study used a qualitative research method; the youth participants were selected from the recommendations of professional groups, and interviewed using the focus group and individual interview methods. In addition, social workers and parents were interviewed to complement interviews of youth with intellectual disabilities. According to the results, the following main themes were extracted from the experiences of youth with intellectual disabilities who live in residential facilities: 'restricted lives by strict rules', 'limitation of individual lives and choice experiences', 'not being respected' at large scale residential facilities, and 'starting independent living', 'a still hardship of independence', 'a tranquil life like home', 'difficulties of communal living' at the group home. Also, they have common experiences in both types of residential facilities: 'depending on each other', 'missing their family', 'being excluded from peer groups at school', 'not wanting to be known as living at residential facilities'. The implication of this study results are for the policy making, and the actual practices were discussed focusing on their right and well-being.

Descriptive statistics and Friedman test were conducted to analyze the change the sleep. As a reulst of anlysis, it was found that the sleep time came earlier, the total sleep time increased, and the wake-up frequency during sleep reduced. Therefore, the rehabilitation horseback riding program participation was shown to have a positive effect on the subjects' sleep. • This study was to investigate basic level of physical activity test that reflects activity of daily living(ADL) for institutionalized elderly women. The subjects were 105 elderly women over than 65 years living in long-term care facilities located in Daejeon and Chungnam. The measured eight items related to ADL were tested and the data was analyzed by descriptive statistics, one-way ANOVA, factors analysis and correlation. The results were statistically significant differences. Among eight test items, two factors(muscle strength and mobility) were extracted by principal component factor analysis(PCA). The two factors are appropriate domains for assessment of basic physical activity of institutionalized elderly women. By using Pearson's correlation, between two factors and age, the first principal component scores were significantly decreased with age increasing. Degradation of ADL must be prevented for institutionalized elderly women through maintain muscle strength and mobility.

  • With its rapid modernization and the unparalleled rate at which its society is aging, South Korea faces the need for a dramatic increase in its supply of nursing homes. Among the spacial components of nursing homes, residential units are considered as an essential part because the older person in nursing homes usually spend most of their time in residential units and the nursing homes are mainly composed of various residential units. It is necessary, therefore, to prepare a guideline for the plan of residential units in order to design the healthy and efficient nursing homes. This paper has first identified the concept of residential unit and analyzed 55 cases in the 51 nursing homes from 4 countries. On the basis of this analysis, architectural prototypes of residential units have been proposed and the architectural characteristics of them have been compared analytically.

  • This study performed to provide the basic information about the effects of the health management importance awareness on the occupational performance and basic fitness for the people with intellectual disabilities. 16 people with intellectual disabilities participated in muscle strengthening exercise. To assess health management importance awareness, the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure was used to identify the importance of the health management. According to the results of the importance, they were divided into two groups: Extreme and Neutral Importance Group in order to analyze the changes of the occupational performance and basic fitness. In-group analysis of the performance, satisfaction level, strength, and flexibility found that all measures improved in both groups following completion of the program. Between-group analysis following completion of the program indicated group differences in the performance and satisfaction level, but no group differences were found in the muscle strength and flexibility. Thus, this study showed the positive effects from the results of the program participation targeting the people with intellectual disabilities, and highlighted the importance of the awareness for them regarding the need for the health management (as evidenced by the improvement in occupational performance). It is expected that effective health management through participation in programs such as this will help maintain a healthy lifestyle and contribute to improve the quality of life.

  • The aim of this study is to analyse housing satisfaction among residents of different types of public rental housing-permanent, national, and happy housing-following the integration of housing types upon the full-scale supply of integrated public rental housing. By identifying key factors that influence residential satisfaction, our goal is to inform the planning of public rental housing complexes and derive policy implications. The study focuses on analysing discrepancies in residential satisfaction among residents of different types of public rental housing and comparing the factors influencing this satisfaction. Microdata from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport's 'Housing Situation Survey' in 2021 is utilized for analysis, employing one-way ANOVA and binomial logistic regression methods. Empirical analysis reveals variations in residential satisfaction levels between residents of permanent and national rental housing, with national rental housing residents exhibiting higher satisfaction. The influencing factors of overall condition satisfaction are consistent for permanent and national rental residents but differ for happy housing residents. Additionally, the influencing factors of overall residential environmental satisfaction vary across all three housing types. Nonetheless, common factors across all types include housing noise and facility accessibility, highlighting their significance in complex planning. Subsequent studies may involve time series analysis to assess changes in influencing factors over time.
