Employment Structure in Korea: Characteristics & Problems (우리나라 고용구조의 특징과 과제)

  • As the Korean economy grew, employment expanded steadily, with the number of economically active people increasing and the employment-to-population rate also increasing. However, the working age population started to decline in 2017, and the employment of women and young people has been sluggish. The proportion of non-salaried workers in Korea is much higher than in other OECD countries, and is also excessive, considering Korea's income levels. In addition, the proportion of non-regular workers and the proportion of workers employed at small companies are particularly high among salaried workers. In light of these characteristics of Korean employment, the urgent problems facing the employment structure can be summarized by the deepening dual structure of the labor market, the increase in youth unemployment, sluggish female employment figures, and an excessive share of self-employment. Overall, it is seen that labor market duality is the main structural factor of the employment problems in Korea. Therefore, in order to fundamentally address this employment problem, it is necessary to concentrate policy efforts on alleviating labor market duality.

A Study on the Impact of SNS Usage Characteristics, Characteristics of Loan Products, and Personal Characteristics on Credit Loan Repayment (SNS 사용특성, 대출특성, 개인특성이 신용대출 상환에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • This study aims to investigate the potential of alternative credit assessment through Social Networking Sites (SNS) as a complementary tool to conventional loan review processes. It seeks to discern the impact of SNS usage characteristics and loan product attributes on credit loan repayment. To achieve this objective, we conducted a binomial logistic regression analysis examining the influence of SNS usage patterns, loan characteristics, and personal attributes on credit loan conditions, utilizing data from Company A's credit loan program, which integrates SNS data into its actual loan review processes. Our findings reveal several noteworthy insights. Firstly, with respect to profile photos that reflect users' personalities and individual characteristics, individuals who choose to upload photos directly connected to their personal lives, such as images of themselves, their private circles (e.g., family and friends), and photos depicting social activities like hobbies, which tend to be favored by individuals with extroverted tendencies, as well as character and humor-themed photos, which are typically favored by individuals with conscientious traits, demonstrate a higher propensity for diligently repaying credit loans. Conversely, the utilization of photos like landscapes or images concealing one's identity did not exhibit a statistically significant causal relationship with loan repayment. Furthermore, a positive correlation was observed between the extent of SNS usage and the likelihood of loan repayment. However, the level of SNS interaction did not exert a significant effect on the probability of loan repayment. This observation may be attributed to the passive nature of the interaction variable, which primarily involves expressing sympathy for other users' comments rather than generating original content. The study also unveiled the statistical significance of loan duration and the number of loans, representing key characteristics of loan portfolios, in influencing credit loan repayment. This underscores the importance of considering loan duration and the quantity of loans as crucial determinants in the design of microcredit products. Among the personal characteristic variables examined, only gender emerged as a significant factor. This implies that the loan program scrutinized in this analysis does not exhibit substantial discrimination based on age and credit scores, as its customer base predominantly consists of individuals in their twenties and thirties with low credit scores, who encounter challenges in securing loans from traditional financial institutions. This research stands out from prior studies by empirically exploring the relationship between SNS usage and credit loan repayment while incorporating variables not typically addressed in existing credit rating research, such as profile pictures. It underscores the significance of harnessing subjective, unstructured information from SNS for loan screening, offering the potential to mitigate the financial disadvantages faced by borrowers with low credit scores or those ensnared in short-term liquidity constraints due to limited credit history a group often referred to as "thin filers." By utilizing such information, these individuals can potentially reduce their credit costs, whereas they are supposed to accrue a more substantial financial history through credit transactions under conventional credit assessment system.

  • 지적재산권은 기술개발의욕 자극을 위해 새로이 물건이나 사상 등의 창작자에게 일종의 배타적 독점권을 부여한 것으로서 1980년대 이후 국제적 관심이 고조되기 시작하였는데, 두 차례의 석유파동 이후 기술이 국제 경쟁력의 주요 결정요인으로 등장하던 시기에 한국을 비롯한 개도국들이 선진국의 기술을 모방하여 첨단기술제품 분야에서 경쟁적 우위를 확보하자 자신들의 경쟁력 확보를 위해 선진국들이 자신들의 통상교섭력을 바탕으로 GATT/UR 등 국제적 협상을 통해 지적재산권 보호문제를 통상문제로 확대시킨 것이다. 이러한 지적재산권에 대한 통상문제와 관련하여 가장 문제가 되는 국가는 역시 미국인데, 미국은 통상법 301조 중 지적재산권 보호에 적용되는 Special 301조를 이용하여 지적재산권 보호에 대한 실효성을 확보하였으며, 당초 제품수입상의 불공정거래행위에 적용하던 관세법 337조를 지적재산권을 침해하는 수입 판매행위에도 적용할 수 있도록 개정함으로써 그 보호수단을 더욱 강화하였는데, 이에 따라 우리도 적절한 대응방안의 모색이 요구되고 있다. 우선 정부의 입장에서는 대내적으로 원천기술 및 개량기술 개발을 통한 기술의 해외의존도 축소, 인센티브 도입 등 직무발명제도 활성화, 해외특허권 취득확대를 위한 중소기업의 해외출원비용 지원, 심사관의 전문화롤 통한 심사의 처리속도 및 질 향상, 특허기술정보 이용체제 개선을 위한 특허청의 정보전산화 및 산업기술정보원 톡허정보센타와의 유기적인 협조체제 구축, 기업의 특허분쟁대응능력 향상을 위한 전담부서 마련 및 국제특허분쟁 전문변리사 양성 등의 대안을 마련할 필요가 있으며, 대외적으로는 PLT협약 등 차후에 있을 국제협약에의 적극적인 참여를 통한 우리나라의 이익도모, 남북 가교역할의 강화 및 한 미 양국간의 법제적 차이에 대한 오해불식, 해당 산업에 영향을 줄 수 있는 로비 활동의 활성화 등의 대안이 필요하다. 또한 기업의 입장에서는 사전적으로 과감한 연구개발투자를 통한 산업재산권 확보, 기술 법률 언어능력을 고루 갖춘 특허전문가의 확보, 국제특허분쟁에 대한 대응체계 구축, 특허권 분쟁발생 방지를 위한 책임소재의 명확화 등의 근본적인 대책과 국제특허분쟁 차단을 위한 철저한 선행기술 조사, 해외기술의 개량 및 이용 촉진을 위한 크로스-라이센스의 활성화, 부실특허권에 대한 적극적인 무효심판청구, 제소정보에 대한 조기 입수, 설계변경이나 특허무효자료조사 등 침해회피 방법의 준비, 위험특허에 대한 철저한 예비조사 등의 부수적인 대책을 마련할 필요가 있으며, 일단 특허분쟁이 발생한 경우에는 당해 분쟁의 자사 생산 제품과의 관련여부 검토, 사건에 필요한 광범위한 정보 수집을 위한 전담팀 구성, 제소인의 특허권에 대한 면밀한 법률적 검토, 제소자에 대한 정확한 정보파악 및 최종 대응방안에 대한 신속한 결정, 자사의 특허를 이용한 제소자에 대한 역제소 등의 대응방안을 강구할 필요가 있는 것이다.

  • The ISO issued the first standard for environmental management standard(EMS) in 1993. This standard provide for elements of an effective environmental management system and can also help companies ingrain effective environmental management practice into their overall business operations. ISO 14001 is predicted to become the leading voluntary environmental management system standard. Companies selling products and services internationally and domestically will also be affected by publication of this standard. Especially, this new environmental management standards are fast becoming a condition for doing global business because it can be acted with trade barriers. Actually, an automobile companies of America including Ford and GM require their subcontracting companies to gain the recognition of ISO 14001. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the ISO 14000 and its application of Korean firms focusing on environmental management system(EMS). This paper proceeds to present the effective alternatives through analysing the existing Korean firms which has established EMS. Korean firms should adopt EMS not for the enhancement of corporate image but for the purpose of strategic competitive advantage.

A Study about Internal Control Deficient Company Forecasting and Characteristics - Based on listed and unlisted companies - (내부통제 취약기업 예측과 특성에 관한 연구 - 상장기업군과 비상장기업군 중심으로 -)

  • The propose of study is to examine the characteristics of companies with high possibility to form an internal control weakness using forecasting model. This study use the actual listed/unlisted companies' data from K_financial institution. The first conclusion is that discriminant model is more valid than logit model to predict internal control weak companies. A discriminant model for predicting the vulnerability of internal control has high classification accuracy and has low the Type II error that is incorrectly classifying vulnerable companies to normal companies. The second conclusion is that the characteristic of weak internal control companies have a low credit rating, low asset soundness assessment, high delinquency rates, lower operating cash flow, high debt ratios, and minus operating profit to the net sales ratio. As not only a case of listed companies but unlisted companies which did not occur in previous studies are extended in this study, research results including the forecasting model can be used as a predictive tool of financial institutions predicting companies with high potential internal control weakness to prevent asset losses.

  • With increasing uncertainty of energy market in the world, the policies for the energy resource security have become crucial Several countries with poor energy resource like Netherlands and Singapore have pursued the policy for becoming an oil hub in the region. Singapore has been an oil hub in East Asia for a long time not only because it is well located with a large number of countries exporting and importing oil but it has also pursued strong policies to become an oil hub while establishing favourable institutional, regulatory and business environment for accommodating major refineries and petro-chemical companies. However with growing trading volume of petroleum products in Northeast Asia and a record high price of oil in these days, the necessities of another oil hub in the region are considered in order to reap benefits of the security of economical and stable oil. South Korea is situated astride the main North Pacific shipping route, with deep water ports and proximity to Chinese and Japanese industrial centres that make tank terminal operators Ideal choices for the oil hub in Northeast Asia although it has several disadvantages such as lack of independent storage facilities, underdeveloped oil trading market and unfavourable business friendly climates etc. This study is focused on examining the globalization strategies of tank terminal operators such as Vopak, Oiltanking and Odfjell in order to suggest the policy implications for becoming an oil tub in Northeast Asia.

  • 1997년과 1998년 4월 1일자의 M&A제한규정이었던 증권거래법 제200조의 철폐와 적대적 M&A의 전면허용 그리고 외국자본의 투자제한의 간소화 등 규제완화조치와, 향후 외국인에 대해서 100%까지 주식을 매입할 수 있는 적대적 M&A가 허용될 것으로 보여 우리나라에서도 M&A활동이 보다 본격화 될 것으로 전망되고 있다. 우리나라에서는 1980년대부터 M&A에 대한 관심과 연구가 시작되면서 지금까지 기업합병ㆍ인수의 동기와 효과에 대해서 많은 연구가 이루어져 왔다. 지금까지의 연구내용은 대부분 기업의 M&A동기는 시너지효과를 얻기 위함이며, 또한 공시정보가 합병공시일 전후동안에 주가수익율에 반영되어 합병 당사기업의 주주의 부에 영향을 미치는지의 주가변화 유무에 국한된 것이었다. 또한 1985년부터 1991년 초 사이에 이루어졌던 연구는 당시 국내 M&A 환경이 매우 열악하고 극히 제한된 비정상적인 자본시장 상황 하에서 이루어진 사례에 의한 연구이었기 때문에 연구결과의 문제점과 한계성이 있었고, 실효성 측면에서도 다소 미흡하였다고 할 수 있다. 우리나라 M&A의 성장발전과정을 크게 2단계로 분류한다면, 제1단계는 1975년부터 시작하여 1990년까지로써 이 기간동안의 M&A환경은 그 여건조성과 성숙준비단계였으며, 제2단계인 1990년 초부터 비로소 선진국형 시장경제원리에 근거한 보다 경쟁적이고 자율적인 M&A 시장구조가 형성되면서 활성화 단계로 진입하였다고 볼 수 있을 것이다. 본 연구의 주된 목적은 1990년부터 1996년 사이에 이루어진 상장기업의 M&A 사례를 표본으로 하여 한국에서의 기업합병과 기업인수(주식취득)가 기업가치에 미치는 영향을 구명하는데 있다. 이를 위하여 먼저, M&A 당사기업의 합병성과 발생과 차이 유무를 주가수익율을 측정하여 실증분석하고 다음으로 M&A에 따른 시너지의 잠재적 원천이 어디에 있는지 재무성과분석을 통해서 이를 실증하는데 목적이 있다.PA-designated retailers ("sellers") must accept end-of-life items returned to them by the consumers.   • Market players have realized the importance of brand power and tried to develop effective marketing programs which focus on consumer's brand experience. This study aims to investigate brand experience and brand personality effect on brand attitude which is overall consumer's faith toward brands and repurchase intention in food-franchised by Structural Equation Model. As results, both brand experience and brand personality affect brand attitude although brand experience has more influence than brand personality. As consumers show positive brand experience and attitude, repurchase intention is higher. Brand attitude plays a mediation role in the relation of brand experience and personality, and repurchase intention. Also brand experience shows more influence than others on repurchase intention.

  • The development of online content is changing the value of society very diversely and rapidly. In particular, the non-face-to-face e-sports industry is growing significantly in the current situation where the COVID-19 Pandemic has not been completely overcome. The use of NFT in the eSports industry is receiving positive reviews as a field with high potential for future growth that protects digital assets of eSports users, but at the same time, it is raising concerns that cash transactions of digital items could encourage gambling. In this study, the characteristics of the recent eSports industry and NFT were identified and classified through case studies using literature, official sites, and online news articles. Through various cases of eSports and NFT, we discussed the potential for future growth and activation plan of the NFT industry of eSports. The result is as follows. First, it is necessary to use NFT using IP of eSports event itself. Second, it is necessary to combine the functional role of the item with NFT to provide features that users can utilize. Third, it is necessary to provide users with opportunities to engage in economic activities using eSports and NFT. Finally, it is necessary to use NFT to strengthen the digital asset protection of eSports users. Through this study, it is expected to be used as a basis for further discussions on the NFT industry of e-sports and as a material for securing competitiveness.

  • ESG management means to thoroughly consider the investor's perspective when evaluating corporate value, and environmental, social, and governance issues are continuous and strategic monitoring issues in identifying risk and opportunity factors related to corporate management activities. In other words, the perspective of value creation is reflected in business relationships. The fundamental purpose of ESG management is continuous business value creation and thorough management of investment risks and business transactions in contractual relationships. It is also a requirement of linked investors. The field that Korean companies are currently experiencing the most is the recognition that 'ESG information collection is necessary and maintenance must be prioritized' in investor IR and global sales and marketing departments, and the primary need for this is emerging. In addition, as the legal affairs office, environmental safety department, and human resources department, which conduct compliance management, carry out related tasks, clarity at the organizational level must precede in order to properly establish an information integration and management system. It covers the scope of securing new market opportunities such as management, disclosure and communication. Therefore, in regard to the newly emerging ESG management and response methods, it is necessary to review and implement it repeatedly so that sustainable exchange profits can be created by simultaneously managing non-financial risks as well as efforts to enhance corporate value for financial returns.
