In this paper, we study on the convergence of the evolution strategies by introducing the Lamarckian
evolution and the Baldwin effect, and propose a random local searching and a reinforcement local searching
methods. In the random local searching method some neighbors generated randomly from each individual are
med without any other information, but in the reinforcement local searching method the previous results of
the local search are reflected on the current local search. From the viewpoint of the purpose of the local search
it is suitable that we try all the neighbors of the best individual and then search the neighbors of the best one
of them repeatedly. Since the reinforcement local searching method based on the Lamarckian evolution and
Baldwin effect does not search neighbors randomly, but searches the neighbors in the direction of the better
fitness, it has advantages of fast convergence and an improvement on the global searching capability. In other
words the performance of the evolution strategies is improved by introducing the learning, reinforcement local
search, into the evolution. We study on the learning effect on evolution strategies by applying the proposed
method to various function optimization problems.
The objective of this study was to estimate genetic parameters for test-day milk production and somatic cell score using field data collected by dairy herd improvement program in Korea. Random regression animal models were applied to estimate genetic variances for milk production and somatic cell score. Heritabilities for milk yields, fat percentage, protein percentage, solid-not-fat percentage, and somatic cell score from test day records of 5,796 first lactation Holstein cows were estimated by REML algorithm in single trait random regression test-day animal models. For these analyses, Legendre polynomial covariate function was applied to model the fixed effect of age-season, the additive genetic effect and the permanent environment effect as random. Homogeneous residual variance was assumed to be equal throughout lactation. Heritabilities as a function of time were calculated from the estimated curve parameters from univariate analyses. Heritability estimates for milk yields were in range of 0.13 to 0.29 throughout first lactation. Heritability estimates for fat percentage, protein percentage and solid-not-fat percentage were within 0.09 to 0.11, 0.12 to 0.19 and 0.17 to 0.23, respectively. For somatic cell score, heritabilities were within 0.02 to 0.04. Heritabilities for milk productions and somatic cell score were fluctuated by days in milk with comparing 305d milk production.

In order to select superior trees based on fruit characteristics and provide basic informations necessary for their improvement, total 107 individual trees of Sorbus alnifolia (Sieb. et Zucc.) K. Koch were selected from 11 wild populations in South Korea. After collecting normal fruit branch, we investigated morphological characteristics of fruit and then considered its relationship among the 11 populations by multivariate analysis method. Results from principal compound analysis showed that it represented 85.8% accumulated explanation from five principal compounds. According to cluster analysis based on fruit characteristics, the natural S. alnifolia populations were classified into four groups and Mt. Mani population was different from other populations. Selection effect with outstanding candidate trees including superior 5 individual trees (Gwangyo 1, Gwangyo 2, Deogyu 7, Mani 29, Mani 30) was estimated at 122.8%, 115.5% and 182.7% in fruit width, length and yield per fruit bunch, respectively. The object of this results will give us invaluable information about breeding by selection of S. alnifolia in south Korea.

Persimmon flowers are fruit-bearing female, pollen-bearing male, or hermaphrodite, containing both a pistil and a stamen. Using prominent PCNA persimmons as male parents is very important for breeding programs, as the selection procedure for new cultivars bearing male flowers requires a long time and a large field in a traditional crossbreeding method. To improve breeding efficiency through early selection of male flower-bearing plants at the seedling stage, analysis was performed on 88 major cultivars whose gender expressions are known, using two male flower selection markers recommended by Akagi et al. The OGI locus marker and DISx-AF4S marker results showed that 83 and 72 cultivars, respectively, matched in terms of gender expression and marker analysis. For the OGI locus marker, 890 plants were selected from 2,509 seedlings obtained from crossbreeding with the mother plant "Migamjosang," which was the breeding cultivar. Comparing the gender expression of the flowers and the marker with 1,186 crossbred seedlings, excluding the unfertilized and dead plants, inconsistencies were found in 401 plants (33.8%). For the DISx-AF4S marker, 636 plants were selected from 889 seedlings obtained from 12 cross-combinations. The results of the sex expression and marker analysis were compared to 379 plants, excluding the unfertilized and dead plants, and inconsistencies were found in 247 plants (65.2%). These results indicate that the examined DISx-AF4S and OGI locus markers would not be suitable for utilization in the breeding field.

The invasive red swamp crayfish, Procambarus clarkii, is native to south-central United States and northeastern Mexico. Recently, it has been being spreading in the wild in South Korea. However, its primary sources, introduction routes, establishment, and expansion in South Korea remain unclear. Here, we analyzed genetic diversity and population genetic structures of its domestic natural populations during early invasion, commercial stock from local aquaria (a suspected introduction source), and original United States population using mitochondrial COI gene sequences for 267 individuals and eight microsatellite markers for 158 individuals. Natural and commercial populations of P. clarkii showed reduced genetic diversity (e.g., haplotype diversity and allelic richness). The highest genetic diversity was observed in one original source population based on both genetic markers. Despite a large number of individuals in commercial aquaria, we detected remarkably low genetic diversity and only three haplotypes among 226 individuals, suggesting an inbred population likely originating from a small founder group. Additionally, the low genetic diversity in the natural population indicates a small effective population size during early establishment of P. clarkii in South Korea. Interestingly, genetic differentiation between natural populations and the United States population was lower than that between natural populations and aquarium populations. This suggests that various genetic types from the United States likely have entered different domestic aquariums, leading to distinct natural populations through separate pathways. Results of our study will provide an insight on the level of genetic divergence and population differentiation during the initial stage of invasion of non-indigenous species into new environments.
Analysis of combat effectiveness is required to consider the concept of tactical cooperative engagement between manned-unmanned weapon systems, in order to predict the required operational capabilities of future weapon systems that meets the concept of 'effect-based synchronized operations.' However, analytical methods such as mathematical and statistical models make it difficult to analyze the effects of complex systems under nonlinear warfare. In this paper, we propose a combat simulation model that can simulate the concept of cooperative engagement between manned-unmanned combat entities based on wireless communications. First, we model unmanned combat entities, e.g., unmanned ground vehicles and drones, and manned combat entities, e.g., combatants and artillery, considering the capabilities required by the future ground system. We also simulate tactical behavior in which all entities perform their mission while sharing battlefield situation information through wireless communications. Finally we explore the feasibility of the proposed model by analyzing combat effectiveness such as target acquisition rate, remote control success rate, reconnaissance lead time, survival rate, and enemy's loss rate under a small-unit armor reconnaissance scenario. The proposed model is expected to be used in war-game combat experiments as well as analysis of the effects of manned-unmanned ground weapons.

A random coefficient model is applied when times of the repeated measurements are not fixed in experiments with respect to the subjects. The procedures of the inference of a random coefficient model are same as those of a mixed model. Diet experimental data was used for applying the random coefficient model. Various random coefficient models are investigated for the experimental data, and are compared each other. Finally, optimal random coefficient model would be selected. It resulted from the analysis that for the fixed effect factor, the baseline, treatment, height, and time effect were very significant. The treatment effect of the diet foods and exercises were more effective in losing weight than the effect of the diet foods only. The fixed cubic time effect was very significant. The variance components corresponding to the subject effect, linear time effect, quadratic time effect, and cubic time effect of the random coefficients are all positive. When quartic time effect was added as random coefficients the model did not converge. Thus random coefficients up to the cubic terms was considered as the optimal model.

This study identified the physiological characteristics of Alnus firma seedlings collected from air polluted industrial complex of Yeosu area with inoculation of nitrogen-fixing nodule. A. firma individuals resistant or sensitive to air pollution stress at the study area were selected. Seeds of the individuals were sown in a pot and inoculated with the nodules collected at the same area about 3 weeks after germination. To compare the inoculation effects, photosynthesis was measured among the A. firma seedlings under 12 inoculation combinations of seed sources and nodule sources. Photosynthetic activities of seedlings from resistant mother trees were obviously higher than those from sensitive mother trees. In general, the seedlings inoculated with nodule of sensitive trees, showed a worse physiological trend on every combination. In this study, inoculation effect was less important factor than seed sources to photosynthetic activities of A. firma. This physiological characteristic seemed to be determined by seed sources rather than nodule sources.
