Differences in Small Mammal Populations Due to Different Habitat Structure in Natural Deciduous Forest (활엽수(闊葉樹) 천연림(天然林) 지역(地域)에서 서식지(棲息地) 구조(構造)에 따른 소형(小型) 포유류(哺乳類) 개체군(個體群)의 차이(差異))

  • This study was conducted to clarify the differences in small mammal populations due to habitat structure caused by different forest practices within natural deciduous forests at National Forest, Pyoungchang, Kangwon Province, Korea from May to November, 1996. Three sites, 1ha each, were selected as cutting, thinning, and control for live trapping of small mammals. Total captures of small mammals in all sites were combined Apodemus peninsulae(45.1%, n=64) and Eothenomys regulus(54.9%, n=78). A. peninsulae was captured in the cutting and the control site. And E. regulus was captured in the thinning and the control site. The number of captured small mammals in a month were the highest in the control site and the lowest in the cutting site. A. peninsulae's mean body weight of adult individuals was more higher in the control site than in the cutting site. And E. regulus's mean body weight of adult individuals was more higher in the control site than in the thinning site. Habitat structure seems to be an important factor in abundance and species composition of small mammals.

Current status of fish fauna and Zacco platypus population in the Cheonggyecheon stream (청계천의 어류상 및 피라미(Zacco platypus) 개체군 현황)

  • This study aimed to present the current status of exotic fish species, invasive species, and dominant species inhabiting the Cheonggyecheon stream. We conducted three samplings from April to October 2019. A total of 2,045 individuals from 27 species belonging to nine fish families were collected. There were five Korean endemic species (18.5%) including Coreoleuciscus splendidus, Sarcocheilichthys nigripinnis morii, Squalidus gracilis majimae, Zacco koreanus, and Odontobutis interrupta in the Cheonggyecheon stream. The dominant species was Zacco platypus (62.4%) and the subdominant species was Z. koreanus (9.8%). The length-weight analysis of the dominant species Z. platypus population showed a regression coefficient b of 3.3434 and a condition factor(k) of 0.0026, with a positive slope. The growth state of the Z. platypus population was identified as being in a very favorable condition. The Cheonggyecheon stream is considered to be an appropriate habitat for the Z. platypus population. Since the restoration, The Cheonggyecheon stream has had continuous problems due to the introduction of exotic species and invasive species and in this study, exotic species, Gyrinocheilus aymonier var.(gold type), and invasive species, Coreoleuciscus splendidus, which have not previously been reported in the Cheonggyecheon stream, appeared. Therefore, it is deemed necessary to prepare continuous publicity and management measures to prevent exotic species and invasive species from inhabiting the Cheonggyecheon stream.

A study on the Inhabitant of Ssang-Cave in Pyeongchang, Korea (평창(平昌) 쌍굴(雙屈)의 서식생물(棲息生物)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究))

  • In this study, the inhabitant were investigated at the six sites in the cave which is located in Giwha-ri, Mitan-myen, Pyeong Chang-gun from January to June in 2005. As the result of observation, collection, researching, It was confirmed as all animals species were classified by 19 species, 4 classes, 11 orders, 16 families. Among the investigated animals, Diestrammena asynamora Adelung distributed 66.6% and Antrokoreana gracilipes Verhoeff distributed 22.4%. They were confirmed as a dominant species. Among the observed animals, Troglobite with ecological characteristics was 5.3%, troglophiles were 21.1% and trogloxenes were 73.7%. Among them, There were the largest number of species in trogloxenes. In the class manmalia, Rhinolphus ferrumequinum korai Kuroda and two Myolis daubentoni ussuriensis Ognev's species were observed. Among them Rhinolphus ferrumequinum korai Kuroda distributed 58.9%, so they were confirmed as a dominant species. The largest number of Triphosa dubitata Linnaeus, trogloxenes, were observed in January and February in winter. 503 individual of Antrokoreana gracilipes Verhoeffs, troglobites, were observed only in June. Diestrammena asynamora Adelung, troglophiles, appeared the large number of species in sping, especially, in April and May.

Population genetic structure and regional fragmentation of rare CO1 haplotypes of Black-tailed Gulls (Larus crassirostris: Laridae) in Korean Peninsula (한반도 괭이갈매기의 개체군 유전 구조와 희귀 CO1 유전자형의 지리적 파편화)

  • The Black-tailed gull (Larus crassirostris) is one of the most common gull species in the Northeast Asia and classified as LC (least concern) in the IUCN Red List. The bird has become a useful indicator for marine environmental pollution and habitat disruption, since the human activities impacted marine environments. Here we show that the black-tailed Gull has 6 haplotypes and some rare haplotypes are locally limited implying that the bird may not disperse far. This study may be the first report on population genetic study of Black-tailed Gull in Korea and could be used as the baseline data for monitoring and genetic study on the bird as an environmental indicator.

Population Structure of Bluegill, Lepomis macrochirus in Lakes of the Han River System, Korea (한강수계 댐호의 블루길, Lepomis macrochirus 개체군 구조)

  • This study was examined for information of management of bluegill, Lepomis macrochirus which is disturbance species of underwater ecosystem in Korea. Research of bluegill population was investigated spring-summer and autumn periods in the Han river system from 2009 to 2012. Bluegill inhabited mostly lakes, and restrictedly lived at still area in downstream. The range of relative abundance were 0.2~18.2% in individual number and 0.2~40.0% in biomass and it was subdominant or superiority species for the most part of the lakes. Population structure were analyzed r-strategy in Lake Soyang and Paldang and K-strategy in Lake Uiam and Cheongpyeong. But Lake Chungju was estimated transition period from K-strategy to r-strategy. Condition factor and body weight-total length relations were presented favorable condition. For the nesting, bluegill was formatted the group. And the water depth and the distance from shore were mean 56.3 cm and 191.9 cm respectively in nesting ground. Diameter and depth of nests were mean 42.4 cm and 9.7 cm respectively. These results are available for research of population dynamics and reproductive ecology of bluegill.

MUN 수준이 번식에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구

  • 최근 적절한 사양관리를 위해서 유중 요소태질소 수준(MUN)과 유단백을 이용하여 사료 내 에너지와 단백질의 균형을 평가하는 지표로 활용하고 있으며 요소태질소 수준이 정상보다 크게 높거나 낮았을 때 번식능력이 저하되기 때문에 번식효율의 지표로서 활용되고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 우유내 요소태질소 수준이 번식장애에 미치는 영향을 조사하여 요소태질소 수준을 번식장애의 진단지표로 활용하고자 실시하였다. 본 실험에 공시된 우유시료는 경기도 안성시와 이천시에 소재한 낙농목장에서 사육중인 조사두수를 대상으로 개체당 약 30~50$m\ell$의 우유를 채유하고 냉장보관하여 실험실로 운반하였다. 우유의 분석은 유성분분석기(Fosscomb : 4000, Fossmatic 5000, Denmark)를 이용하여 우유의 일반성분인 유지방, 유당, 유단백, 무지고형분, 총고형분, 빙점, 유중요소태질소, 구연산과 체세포를 동시에 분석하였다. 번식장애우의 진단은 낙농가가 번식장애우로 분류한 개체를 대상으로 직장검사 및 초음파 진단기를 이용하여 진단하였다. MUN준에 따른 공태일수의 조사 결과 MUN수준이 7이하 군의 공태일수가 88.98$\pm$120.68로 7-16의 92.20$\pm$105.39와 16이상의 94.42$\pm$87.51보다 다소 낮은 결과를 나타냈다. 또한 번식장애우의 발생빈도와 유성분 분석결과를 살펴보면 낙농가가 번식장애우로 분류한 68두를 진단한 결과 발정발견을 하지 못하여 번식장애우로 분류된 두수가 30두(44.1%)와 비정상두수 38두(55.9%)로 나타났으며 비정상 두수 중 난포난종이 19두(27.9%)로 영구항체6두(8.8%), 자궁내막염(10.3%), 자궁축농증 6두(8.8%)보다 많은 것으로 나타났다. 번식장애우의 유성분 분석결과 자궁축농증이 있는 개체의 유단백 평균이 3.43$\pm$0.35로 다른군에 비해 높았으며 영구항체가 있는 개체군의 MUN수준이 7.73$\pm$8.58로 다른군의 10.84$\pm$4.92, 10.89$\pm$7.38와 10.61$\pm$5.52에 비해 낮게 나타났다.
