  • In this study we have developed programs to enhance the scientific creativity by reviewing literature on the creativity and analyzing the theoretical models related to gifted education. The scientific creativity is regarded as the process of problem solving and problem finding, in particular, solving and finding the ill-defined but significant problems. In general, the important components of the scientific creativity are considered as the scientific knowledge, process skill, divergent/critical thinking, ill-defined problem, and problem finding. The program developed for the purpose of the study is composed of three stages based on Renzulli's model : general exploratory activities, group training activities and individual and small group investigations of real problems. The developed program in this study consists of 4 themes, 15 school hours in the earth science area. The process and products of the program development as well as the background of the present research are described and discussed in detail.

  • This study aims to examine the effect of employees' CSR perception on creativity via compassion along with the moderating effect of CSR authenticity. For the research procedure, frequency analysis and CFA analysis were performed after sample collection, hypothesis verification and moderating effect verification were performed. We conducted an empirical analysis using 360 employees from large-sized companies in Korea. First, the results showed that CSR perception was positively related to employees' compassion. Second, compassion was also positively related to creativity. Third, the positive relationship between CSR perception and creativity was mediated by compassion, and the aforementioned mediated relationship was moderated by CSR authenticity. Therefore, our study findings imply that, when employees perceive CSR, they will not only form compassion emotions but also will display more creativity especially when they perceive the authenticity of CSR.

  • This study examines the vocational adjustment experiences of elderly men who chose a creative occupation after retirement. The aims are to understand the related meanings and to provide specific empirical data on the elderly who hope to start a creative occupation. Five men aged 65 years or older who chose a creative occupation after retirement were enrolled in the study. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with the participants. The collected data were qualitatively analyzed, and a total of 7 categories, 25 subcategories, and 132 concepts were identified. The seven categories were "challenge led by a sense of freedom," "reflection of the need for 'fun,'" "difficulties and limitations felt by a non-expert," "concerns and effort to afford the increasing expenses," "joy for accomplishment," "ways to utilize my creativity," and "reward from increased social participation." The participants felt that adjusting to a creative occupation was a process by which their potential creativity was expressed. They felt the joy of working that they had not felt before, and the series of processes by which they overcame difficulties during work and increased their social participation were in line with the goals of creative aging. In order to help older adults in Korea to choose and adjust to creative occupations in their older adulthood, there is a need for creative-occupation-related education prior to retirement and for various policies and practical efforts that consider the change of social environment. Furthermore, our findings suggest that choosing a creative occupation after retirement is an effective measure for promoting successful aging among the elderly in Korea.

  • The purpose of the present study is to examine elementary gifted students' perceptions on bias against creativity utilizing concept mapping approach. Twelve elementary gifted students participated in the group brainstorming and produced 55 final statements. Based on these statements, the multi-dimensional scale and hierarchial cluster analysis using dissimilarity matrix were performed. Average stress value was .30 which is appropriate for a two-dimensional concept mapping study. In addition, a questionnaire survey using likert 6 points scale was carried out targeting 132 elementary gifted students to analyze the degree of sympathy on their anti-creativity bias perception. The findings are as follow: First, four categories were concluded dividing gifted students' perceptions on bias against creativity from the hierarchial cluster analysis with X-Y coordinate matrix, these were 'Contradictory attitudes to creativity', 'Low evaluation for creativity', 'Forced to predetermined rules and ideas', and 'Aversion to new things'. Second, elementary gifted students were sympathetic to the order 'Forced to predetermined rules and ideas'(M=4.16), 'Aversion to new things'(M=3.68), 'Contradictory attitudes to creativity'(M=3.55) and 'Low evaluation for creativity'(M=3.30). This study aims to examine, analyze and categorize various relevant factors related to elementary gifted students' perceptions on bias against creativity. Implications of the study related to the present and future creative education were discussed in depth.

The subjects of the study were 25 students for characteristics of observation and 144 students for both observation activity group and non-observation group, as a control, in a middle school. As a result, 25 students wrote 206 cases for the characteristics of observation. The cases were mostly classified in visual ways, such as color, figure, and movement. Students analyzed in primitive ways, observed in the given-limited situation, and confirmed with teachers or other students, The results of this study for creativity by observation activity were analyzed by ANCOVA and this study showed that observation activity was found to be effective in increasing students' creativity (p<0.05).

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the dispute over creativity domain at schools in Korea. In other words, this study is to examine the creativity domain among all subjects, a group of high level performance, and a group of low level performance in creativity. Based on ability-differentiation hypothesis, correlation among 4 domains, correlation between divergent thinking variables of domain-generality and 4 domains of domain-speciality, and multiple linear regression have been computed. The results are opposed to the hypothesis. The group of low level performance is related to domain-speciality. The group of high level performance, however, has relationships neither domain-generality nor domain-speciality. Instead of differentiation between domain-generality and domain-speciality, the results support the domain-complementarity.
