Concept-based Question Analysis for Accurate Answer Extraction (정확한 해답 추출을 위한 개념 기반의 질의 분석)

  • This paper describes a concept-based question analysis to analyze concept which is more important than keyword for the accurate answer extraction. Our idea is that we can extract correct answers from various paragraphs with different structures when we use well-defined concepts because concepts occurred in questions of same answer type are similar. That is, we will analyze the syntactic and semantic role of each word or phrase in a question in order to extract more relevant documents and more accurate answer in them. For each answer type, we define a concept frame which is composed of concepts commonly occurred in that type of questions and analyze user's question by filling a concept frame with a word or phrase. Empirical results show that our concept-based question analysis can extract more accurate answer than any other conventional approach. Also, concept-based approach has additional merits that it is language universal model, and can be combined with arbitrary conventional approaches.

A Study on the Structural Conception Formation of the Center of Mass Concept (질량중심 개념의 구조적 개념 형성에 관한 연구)

  • We are able to analyze a social or a natural phenomenon by using the conception. if we understand a concept of an object. However it is not easy to understand a concept of an object. The process of comprehending the concept is a long rigorous mental journey. Hence, understanding concepts has been emphasized in studies in education. Previous studies demonstrate that conception has a dual nature, which has both an operational and a structural nature. We are able to acknowledge that structural conception develops from an operating conception. Nevertheless, discovering a dual nature of conception and knowing whether students acquired the dual nature, especially the structural nature are difficult to achieve. In this research, I examine the operational and the structural nature of a center of mass conception and analyze whether students acquire structural nature of the center of mass conception, and find implications which we would do to build the structural conception on a concept.

Early Childhood Teachers' Knowledge System on the Contents of Early Childhood Unification Education Using Analyses of Content Map (유아교사의 유아통일교육에 대한 지식체계 고찰: 개념도 분석을 중심으로)

  • Objective: The purpose of the study was to explore early childhood teachers' content knowledge and knowledge level on unification education through an analysis of a concept map (Novak & Gowin, 1984). Methods: The subjects, including 65 early childhood teachers in a metropolitan area, were asked to draw concept maps illustrating their understanding of unification education for young children. The collected concept maps were analyzed using the methods utilized by Novak and Gowin (1984) as well as You and Kim (2018). Results: In terms of early childhood teachers' content knowledge, 282 superordinate concepts and 1,766 subordinate concepts were shown. The 282 superordinate concepts were categorized into 7 representative superordinate concepts: understanding of North Korean, understanding of separation/unification, identification as Korean citizen, unification policy, relationship between South Korea & North Korea, educational activities, connection with home and society. In terms of early childhood teachers' knowledge level, the numbers of subordinate concepts and hierarchical level were shown to be varied according to the 7 representative superordinate concepts. Conclusion/Implications: Discussions were included to support and enhance early childhood teachers' content knowledge on unification education for young children through the development of comprehensive programs and teacher education.

Investigation of Mental Models about Tide for Scientifically Talented Middle School Students by Analyzing Facet of Conceptual Types by Context (상황에 따른 개념 유형의 국면 분석을 통한 중학교 과학 영재아들의 조석에 관한 정신모형 탐색)

  • 본 연구에서는 중학교 과학 영재아들이 가지고 있는 조석에 관한 정신모형을 탐색하기 위하여 상황에 따른 개념 유형을 분류하고, 각 유형들을 구성하는 국면들을 분석하였다. 조석 현상에 관해 두 가지 상황으로 구성된 과제 수행을 실시한 후 그 응답 결과를 분석한 결과, 상당수의 학생들이 상황에 따라 서로 다른 개념 유형을 나타내었다. 상황에 따른 개념 유형들을 구성하고 있는 국면을 분석한 결과, 각 유형들은 내용-일반적 국면을 공통적으로 포함하고 있었으나, 내용-특정적 국면과 전략적 국면에서는 많은 차이를 나타내었다. 두 가지 상황에서 나타나는 개념 유형들과 이들 유형을 구성하는 국면들을 조합하여 학생들의 정신모형을 분석한 결과 다음과 같은 4가지 모형으로 나눌 수 있었다: (1) Tide model (2) Force model (3) Phase model (4) Hybrid model. Tide model은 과학적으로 옳은 모형이며, Force model과 Phase model은 옳지 않은 모형이며, Hybrid model은 혼합 모형으로 상황에 따라 나타나는 개념 유형이 서로 부합되지 않는 모형이다. 중학교 과학 영재아들이 조석 현상에 대해 가장 많이 가지고 있는 모형은 Tide model(45.0%)이었으며, 그 다음으로는 Hybrid model(30.0%), Force model(12.5%), Phase model(7.5%) 순으로 나타났다.

Analytical Concept of Happiness and Its Measurement (행복의 분석적 개념과 측정방법)

  • This papers reviews the concept of happiness which has begun to be widely used in many fields. The concept of happiness is extensively examined within the analytical concept of subjective well-being. Three components of subjective well-being are clearly summarized in the paper. In addition, related questionaries measuring those components are provided from the most widely accepted in the study of happiness. The role of two factors such as income and unemployment in determining individuals' happiness is also discussed.

Social Transformation of Students' Conceptual Model in an RME-based Differential Equations Course: An Analysis of Students' Use of Conceptual Metaphor (RME 기반 수학 교실에서의 개념적 모델의 사회적 변환: 미분방정식에 대한 개념적 은유 사용 패턴 분석)

  • This research analyzed mathematical discourse of the students in an RME-based differential equations course at a university in order to investigate the social transformation of the students' conceptual model of differential equations. The analysis focused on the change in the students' use of conceptual metaphor for differential equations and pedagogical factors promoting the change. The analysis shows that discrete and quantitative conceptual model was prevalent in the beginning of the semester However, continuous and qualitative conceptual model emerged through the negotiation of mathematical meaning based on the inquiry of context problems. The participation in the project class has a positive impact on the extension of the students' conceptual model of differential equations and increases the fluency of the students' problem solving in differential equations. Moreover, this paper provides a discussion to identify the pedagogical factors Involved with the transformation of the students' conceptual model. The discussion highlights the sociocultural aspect of teaching and learning of mathematics and provides implications to improve teaching of mathematics in school.

The folk psychology of happiness in Korea (한국인의 행복개념에 대한 분석)

  • Happiness research has primarily been conducted based on the American model of happiness. The agentic concept of happiness in the West emphasizes the positive feeling state stemming from individual achievement and positive interpersonal relationships. However, previous studies on lay theories of happiness in other East Asian countries, such as China and Japan, have suggested that these meanings of happiness differ from those of the Western cultural context. The present study examined the lay theory of happiness among Koreans using qualitative and quantitative approaches. Furthermore, the authors compared the Korean model of happiness with that of the Japanese and Americans from Uchida and Kitayama (2009). The findings from the present research indicate that the Korean model of happiness involves both positive and negative states and consequences of happiness, unlike the uniformly positively connoted happiness in Western cultural contexts. The paper concludes with a discussion of the implications of the current findings on happiness research in the Korean culture.

  • Size/scale is a central idea in the science curriculum, providing explanations for various phenomena. However, few studies have been conducted to explore student understanding of this concept and to suggest instructional approaches in scientific contexts. In contrast, there have been more studies in mathematics, regarding the use of number lines to relate the nature of numbers to operation and representation of magnitude. In order to better understand variations in student conceptions of size/scale in scientific contexts and explain learning difficulties including alternative conceptions, this study suggests an approach that links mathematics with the analysis of student conceptions of size/scale, i.e. the analysis of mathematical structure and reasoning for a number line. In addition, data ranging from high school to college students facilitate the interpretation of conceptual complexity in terms of mathematical development of a number line. In this sense, findings from this study better explain the following by mathematical reasoning: (1) varied student conceptions, (2) key aspects of each conception, and (3) potential cognitive dimensions interpreting the size/scale concepts. Results of this study help us to understand the troublesomeness of learning size/scale and provide a direction for developing curriculum and instruction for better understanding.

Intelligent Workbench for Korean Concept-Net Construction (한국어 개념망 구축을 위한 지능형 워크벤치)

  • 개념망은 상당히 도메인에 의존적인 언어자원에 해당한다. 따라서, 도메인이 다른 분야에 적용하고자 한다면, 많은 수정이 요구된다. 그러나 개념망의 편집은 언어 이해 능력이 뛰어난 언어학자들 조차도 상당히 많은 시간이 요구되는 작업이다. 대부분의 시간소요는 개념망의 전체적인 계층구조를 스캐닝하는 작업과 특정 노드를 검색하는 작업에 의한 것이다. 기 구축된 개념망을 분석하면 계층관계에 있는 어휘들간의 일관된 규칙을 발견할 수 있다. 이 논문에서는 어휘들의 뜻풀이와 상위어간의 관계성, 복합명사와 상위어간의 관계성을 통계적으로 분석하였다 분석된 결과를 기반으로 확률모델을 이용하여 상위어 추천 기능을 구현하였다. 상위어 추천 기능의 시간 절감 효과를 실험하기 위해 실험자 2인을 대상으로 개념망 구축에 소요되는 시간을 측정하였다. 상위어 추천 기능이 있는 지능형 워크벤치를 이용할 경우 개념망 작업 시간은 약 $65\%$정도로 단축되는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 본 지능형 워크벤치는 다양한 도메인에서 요구되는 개념망 구축의 시간 비용 절감에 크게 기절할 것으로 기대된다.

A Didactic Analysis of Conditional Probability (조건부확률 개념의 교수학적 분석과 이해 분석)

  • The notions of conditional probability and independence are fundamental to all aspects of probabilistic reasoning. Several previous studies identified some misconceptions in students' thinking in conditional probability. However, they have not analyzed enough the nature of conditional probability. The purpose of this study was to analyze conditional probability and students' knowledge on conditional probability. First, we analyzed the conditional probability from mathematical, historico-genetic, psychological, epistemological points of view, and identified the essential aspects of the conditional probability. Second, we investigated the high school students' and undergraduate students' thinking m conditional probability and independence. The results showed that the students have some misconceptions and difficulties to solve some tasks with regard to conditional probability. Based on these analysis, the characteristics of reasoning about conditional probability are investigated and some suggestions are elicited.
