  • Recently, a new reinforced retaining wall with light steel support face has been developed. In this study, full size in-situ test is carried out to investigate the stability of the new reinforced retaining wall. The lateral displacement of wall, lateral earth pressure, and settlement of the reinforced retaining wall are measured in the full size test. And numerical analysis by 3-D finite element method is also carried out to compare the test results with those of the analysis. From the full size in-situ test, the maximum lateral displacement of wall is 46mm(0.009H) and the maximum settlement is 21.5mm. And comparing these values with those of numerical analysis, it is confirmed that the new reinforced retaining wall with light steel support face is stable and applicable.

  • This study dealt with dynamic characteristics by real car crash simulation of composite support structures for road facilities. The effects of different material properties of composites for various car crash speeds are studied using the LS-DYNA finite element program for this study. In this study, the existing finite element analysis of steel support structures using the LS-DYNA program is further extended to study dynamic behaviors of the support structures made of various composite materials. Based on the passenger safety assessment, the numerical results for various parameters are verified by comparing different models with internal energy occurred in the support and car.

  • This study performed a nonlinear finite element crash analysis of guardrail structures using supports made of composite materials. In this study, we used a new [0/90/90/0] laminated Boron fiber composite for resisting the crash effects. Based on the improved ground-structure interaction model, appropriate ground properties to the support were determined. In particular, the complex crash mechanism of guardrails was studied using various parameters. The parametric studies are focused on the various effects of car crash on the structural performance and thickness of supports. The numerical results for various parameters are verified by comparing those using existing steel materials.

  • To secure good visibility various steel flexible barriers were introduced and constructed in the area where a highway runs in parallel with a railroad. However, none of the flexible barriers was proven to satisfy the performance criteria for the impact condition of $14tonf-80km/h-15^{\circ}$ set forth by Korea design guide. Thus, in this study, the impact performance of the flexible barriers was investigated by using Barrier VII program, which was most widely used for the preliminary design of barriers. From the analytical results, it has been found that none of the barriers satisfied the stiffness requirement while the Type C barrier showed stiffer behavior than the others. Thus, the way to strengthen the installed Type C barrier was experimentally investigated. The method of partially filling concreter inside the pst was efficient to satisfy the performance criteria for the impact condition of $14tonf-80km/h-15^{\circ}$.
