  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the shear strength of SFRC beam that has no stirrups by steel fiber strengthening factor. To achieve the goal of this study, two stage investigation, which is material and member level, is studied with literature and experimental side. From the reviewing of previous researches and analyzing of material and member test results, strengthening parameter of SFRC is defined as steel fiber coefficient. Based on above results, steel fiber strengthening factor is proposed. And by reviewing the proposed equation of shear strength estimation, equation of Shin was well estimated the shear strength of SFRC beams. Therefore, shear strength equation of SFRC, which is composed by Shin's Eq. and steel fiber strengthening factor, is proposed by regression analysis of test results.

  • Uniaxial compression tests for ultra-high performance hybrid steel fiber reinforced concrete (UHPC) were performed to evaluate the compressive behavior of UHPC. The UHPC for testing contains hybrid steel fibers with a predetermined ratio using a length of 19 mm and 16 mm straight typed steel fibers. Test parameter was determined as a fiber volume ratio to investigate the effect of fiber volume ratio on the strength and secant modulus of elasticity. Test results showed that the compressive strength and elastic modulus of UHPC increased with increasing the fiber volume ratio. Based on the test results, the compressive strength and modulus of elasticity equations were proposed as function of the compressive strength of unreinforced and fiber reinforced UHPC, respectively. The simplified equations for predicting the mechanical properties of the UHPC were a good agreement with the test data. The proposed equations are expected to be applied to the SFRC and UHPC with steel fibers.

  • Sixteen concrete mixes reinforced with hybrid steel-polybinyl alcohol (PVA) fibers and a control concrete mix with no fiber were tested in order to examine the effect of the micro and macro fibers on the slump and different mechanical properties of concrete. Main variables investigated were length and volume fraction of steel and PVA fibers. The measured mechanical properties of hybrid fiber reinforced concrete were analyzed using the fiber reinforcing index and compared with those recorded from monolithic steel or PVA fiber reinforced concrete. The initial slump of hybrid fiber reinforced concrete decreased with the increase of the aspect ratio and the volume fraction of fibers. In addition, splitting tensile strength, modui of rupture and elasticity, and flexural toughness index of concrete increased with the increase of the fiber reinforcement index. Modulus of rupture and flexural toughness index of hybrid fiber reinforced concrete were higher than those of monolithic fiber reinforced concrete, though the total volume fraction of hybrid fibers was lower than that of monolithic fiber. For enhancing the flexural toughness index of hybrid fiber reinforced concrete, using the steel fiber of 60 mm length was more effective than using the steel fibers combined with 60 mm and 30 mm lengths.

  • The effect of steel-fiber contents on the compressive behavior of ultra high performance cementitious composites (UHPCC) was studied to propose a compressive behavior model for UHPCC. The experiments considered fiber contents of 0~5 vol.% and the results indicated that compressive strength and corresponding strain as well as elastic modulus were improved as the fiber contents increased. Compared to the previous study results obtained from concrete with compressive strength of 100MPa or less, the reinforcement effect on strength showed similar tendency, while the effect on the strain and elastic modulus were much less. Strength, strain, and elastic modulus according to the fiber contents were presented as a linear function of fiber reinforcement index (RI). Fiber reinforcement in UHPCC had no influence on the shape of compressive behavioral curve. Considering its effect on compressive strength, strain, and elastic modulus, a compressive stress-strain relation for UHPCC was proposed.

  • This paper presents the fundamental study on the field applicability of new-type steel fiber improved the existing shape. In this study, the theoretical reviews and the laboratory test programs were carried out to evaluate the mechanical characteristic of the new-type of steel fiber. The steel fiber sticking coefficient of new-type steel fiber was estimated from the test results. The laboratory scaled shotcrete rebound tests were also performed to analysis the field applicability of New-type steel fiber shotcrete and the mechanical behaviour of New-type steel fiber shotcrete were compared with that of the existing steel fiber shotcrete. It was found that the strength characteristic of New-type steel fiber shotcrete was increased.

  • This paper describes the effect of aggregate size on compressive behavior of high-strength steel fiber reinforced concrete. The Specified compression strength is 60 MPa and the range of fiber volume fraction is 0~2%. The main variable is the aggregate size, which was used for the aggregate size of 8 and 20 mm. So, ten concrete mixtures were prepared and tested to evaluate the fresh and hardened properties of SFRC at curing ages (7, 14, 28, 56 and 91 days), respectively. Items estimated in this study are the fresh properties (air contents, slump), hardened properties (compressive strength, modulus of elasticity, post-peak response and compressive toughness). As a result, the aggregate size has little effect on the compressive strength and modulus of elasticity. On the other hand, the ductile behavior was shown after post peak and the compressive toughness was increasing as decreasing the aggregate size. These effects are clearly represented in the fiber volume fraction 2%, which are the point appeared fiber ball. It is considered that the decreasing the aggregate size has effect on the fiber dispersibility.

  • The addition of steel fiber with concrete significantly improves the engineering properties of structural members, notably shear strength. The purpose of this study is to determine the steel fiber shape, aspect ratio and volume fraction ratio in a point of practical usage as structural members. Steel fiber factor and volume fraction are also considered to verify the strengthening effect in member level. From the reviewing of previous researches and analyzing of consecutive material test results, the optimum shape and length of steel fiber, which can have a good strengthening effects were defined as a hooked end type and larger than 1.5 times of maximum gravel size. Analyzing the test results of strength and deformation capacity, aspect ratio 75 and volume fraction $1.5\%$ can be having a maximum strengthening effect of steel fiber. Also steel fiber factor, tensile splitting strength, and flexural strength are found as key parameter in shear strengthening effect in member level.

  • In this paper, fracture tests were carried out in order to investigate the fracture behavior of SFRC (Steel Fiber Reinforced Concrete) structures. Thirty six SFRC beams were used in this test. The relationships between loadings, strains, and mid-span deflections of the beams were observed under the three point loading system. From the test results, the effects of percentage of fiber by volume, the fiber aspect ratio and the initial crack depth ratio on the concrete fracture behavior were studied, and the stress intensity factors, the thoughness index, and the flexural strength of SFRC beams were calculated. According to the regression technique, some empirical formulae for predicting the flexural strength of SFRC beams were also suggested.

  • The Application of Steel Fiber Shotcrete in tunneling construction has become part of tunneling practice at least since the 1970s because of its high bending and tensile properties. Over the past 3 decades, researcher from all over the world have been significantly developing the associated technologies for improved performance of SFRS. But still it has some major drawbacks in terms of durability, damage of pumping hose, wastage due to rebound concrete, corrosion and it costs high. To overcome this situation researcher has to look for some alternative material. Therefore, this part study deals with the three types of fiber in order to find good alternative for steel fiber. Polyamide and Polypropylene fiber were used in this study with 0.6, 0.5% mixing ratio. To evaluate its fresh and harden properties air content, slump, compressive, split tensile and bending strength were measured. After comparing the results of all three types of fiber reinforced concrete with its different mixing proportion this study propose that polyamide fiber with addition ratio of 0.6 % for field use.
