  • This study aims to explore the impact of algorithmic price discrimination on negative word-of-mouth (NWOM) through the lens of attribution theory. It also examines the mediating roles of intentional attributions and negative emotions, as well as the moderating effect of price sensitivity. For this study, 772 consumers who had purchased flight tickets completed a questionnaire survey, and the collected data were analyzed and tested using SPSS 27.0 and AMOS 24.0 software. The research findings reveal that algorithmic price discrimination has a significant positive impact on intentional attributions, negative emotions, and NWOM. Specifically, deliberate attributions and negative emotions mediate the relationship between algorithmic price discrimination and NWOM, while price sensitivity positively moderates the relationship between negative emotions and NWOM. Therefore, companies should consider disclosing algorithm details transparently in their marketing strategies to mitigate consumers' negative emotions and implement targeted strategies for consumers with different levels of price sensitivity to enhance positive word-of-mouth.

  • Consumers purchase gifts for themselves and for others. This research examined whether one's preferred purchase type (material or experiential) would depend on the gift recipient (self or others). A total of 200 participants took part in online studies via Amazon Mechanical-Turk. Based on the construal-level theory, people will focus on concrete product attributes for psychologically close objects; however, for psychologically distant objects, people will concentrate on abstract product attributes. Study 1 demonstrated that participants preferred material over experiential purchases in self-gifting situations, while they preferred experiential compared to material gifts for others. In Study 2, it was found that individual differences in emotional disconnection moderated the effect of gift recipient on preferred gift type. Specifically, the differences in preferred gift type increased as one's emotional disconnection level increased. The results of this research have theoretical implications in terms of extending construal-level theory to gift-purchasing behaviors. Furthermore, this research has practical implications for marketers and advertisers. Limitations and possible future research directions were also discussed.

  • This study analyzed differences in the effects of communication with salesperson's on customer's emotional responses and store loyalty at customer contact focusing on the moderating effects of salesperson's attribute. This study recognized the need for expanding the results of the prior researches to widen the understanding of communication, emotional responses, and store loyalty. This study tried to, first, examine the effects of communication between customers and salespersons on emotional responses and store loyalty at customer contact; second, determine the effects of reliability and attractiveness, which are attributes of salespersons, as moderating variables; third, examine relative influences of verbal and nonverbal communication on emotional responses and store loyalty. The results mainly showed, first, that communication significantly affected emotional responses and also had significant effects on arousal as well as positive and negative emotion, contrary to prior researches; second, that emotional responses significantly affected store loyalty; third, there was no difference in influences on emotional responses between verbal and nonverbal communication; fourth, the effects of communication on emotional responses depended on attributes of salespersons, demonstrating interactive effects between communication and attributes of salespersons. This study intended to provide theoretical expansion over relations between variables including the dimension of communication beyond empirical reconfirmation of prior researches. In addition, a strategic scheme was presented to manage positive relations with customers at customer contact.

  • As many CSR activities grow steadily, how charitable giving messages affect donation attitude is received attention. In the current research, temporal orientation and donation recipients is presented an effective variables to judge a organization activities. This article based on CLT theory, we establish the experimental condition focused on interaction effects between two variables: time orientation in charitable activities outcomes(near future: a week vs. far future: a year); and based on the recognizability of recipients(a individual child vs. collective group). Result from study, charitable activities outcomes generated in near future orientation(far future orientation) increase donation attitude and affective when messages are used in a specific(general group) context. Furthermore, empathy of CSR organization is a mediator on donation attitude and affective. We expect that these findings have important implication for charitable giving strategy.

  • The previous studies regarding prosocial behavior have been researched based on donors' personal traits and the effects of donees emotions. However, studies in identifying the effects of regulatory focus as motivational traits and the emotions resulting from donees' expression on prosocial behaviors have not been researched as much thoroughly. Specifically, consumers with prevention-focus perceive fit as the goal attainability process by avoiding negative factors. Thus, it is expected that the intentions of doing a charitable deed greater will more increase when the donees look sad than when they look happy. On the other hand, consumers with promotion-focus perceive fit as the consequential benefits of goal attainability when they are in the condition of a positive emotion. As a result, the intention of doing a charitable deed is expected to be increased greater when the donees have happier faces than sad faces. According to the experimental results, consumers with prevention focus more intended to do a charitable deed when the donees' expression was presented with a sad expression by mediating sadness. On the contrary, consumers with promotion focus show higher intention of doing a charitable deed when the donees looked happier by mediating happy feelings. This study has a theoretical meaningfulness in respect to expanding previous research concerning regulatory focus into donation contexts. Furthermore, this study has practical implications by presenting the donation strategies on information presentations of donees.

  • This study defines the substance and multi-dimension of emotional reactions which Koreans have toward foreigners to find the starting point of change in values which is an inevitable task in this multi-cultural society. The results indicate that the Bogardus scale which has been used to measure the social distance toward the minority race is found to have limitations in explaining the closed attitude of Koreans toward 'nation' and 'kinship through marriage'. To supplement such limitations, exploration on attitudes toward foreigners from different native places is performed based on the 'evaluation', 'power' and 'activity' dimensions of the Affective Control Theory. As a result, Americans are highly evaluated in all three dimensions while Japanese are evaluated low in the 'evaluation' dimension and high in the 'power' and 'activity' dimensions. North Korean defectors and ethnic Koreans from China (the Chosun race) are high in evaluation but low in other dimensions. West Asians are evaluated low in all three dimensions. By comprehending the influencing factors and the relative influence of social distance, it proves that the 'evaluation' dimension is the common denominator in all groups while 'power' dimension toward Japanese and 'activity' dimensions toward Chinese and West Asians influence social distance. All foreigners excluding Americans receive closer social distance when having higher education level. Moreover, American women and older North Korean defectors receive closer social distance.
