Preserving Reliability of Evidence Containers for Fire Debris Containing Ignitable Liquids (유류화재증거물 보관용기의 신뢰성에 관한 연구)

  • It is very important for the collected samples at fire scenes to be properly preserved for laboratory analysis. Preserving abilities of four type containers, metal cans, glass jars, zipper and heat sealed polymer bags, with the five ignitable liquids (toluene, n-octane, o-xylene, n-decane and n-hexadecane) were examined with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The glass jars with Teflon (PTFE) liner were the best ability to prevent the evaporation of the ignitable liquids.

  • The present study examined the usability of the web site design, focusing on the cognitive characteristics of the WWW. Specifically, we conducted two major non-experimental usability testing methods on the domestic web sites with various purposes. In research I. we used an on-line questionnaire method on 12 domestic web sites. As a result. several critical usability features and factors were identified. In research 2. we carried out a heuristic evaluation method to identify more specific usability problems The result of research 2 suggests that the heuristic evaluation method reveals more specific problems of the web site design than the questionnaire method.

Development of a Duplex RT-PCR Assay for the Simultaneous Detection and Discrimination of Avirulent and Virulent Newcastle Disease Virus (NDV) (뉴캣슬병 바이러스 검출 및 병원성 감별을 위한 Duplex RT-PCR법 개발)

  • A duplex RT-PCR (dRT-PCR) assay was developed for the simultaneous detection and discrimination of non-virulent and virulent Newcastle disease virus (NDV) in a single PCR tube. Primers targeting the large polymerase protein (L) gene and the fusion protein (F) gene of NDV were designed to detect all NDVs (by common type PCR primers) and virulent NDVs (by pathotype PCR primers), respectively and evaluated experimentally with reference NDV strains and other poultry viral pathogens. PCR products of the expected size of 386 bp were amplified from all NDV samples whereas PCR products of the expected size of 229 bp were amplified from virulent NDV samples alone. Cross reaction was not observed with other avian viral pathogens. The detection limit of NDV by the dRT-PCR was estimated to be $10^3$ 50% egg infectious dose/0.1 mL. In the dRT-PCR using field isolates of NDV, the pathotype PCR primers detected specifically all of virulent field isolates of NDV from Malaysia, Pakistan and China whereas common type PCR primers detected 94.4% (51/54) of field isolates of NDV from China. Three Chinese NDV isolates with false negative result were non-virulent viruses. Our results indicate that the dRT-PCR might provide a rapid and simple tool for rapid simultaneous detection and discrimination of non-virulent and virulent NDVs. Therefore the developed dRT-PCR assay provides a powerful novel means for the rapid diagnosis of Newcastle disease.

Sensitivity study of the Yfiler® PLUS PCR Amplification Kit in forensic casework samples (법과학 현장시료에서 Yfiler® PLUS PCR Amplification Kit의 민감도 연구)

  • A variety of Y-STR analysis kits have been developed and used in the forensic field. Prior to the forensic application of a new kit, laboratory validation and sensitivity tests are essential processes in selecting suitable alternatives and for assuring that standard operating procedures are followed. In this paper, we have performed a sensitivity study of a new commercial kit, the Yfiler® PLUS PCR Amplification Kit (Yfiler plus kit, released in 2014) by comparing it with the AmpF/STR® YfilerTM PCR Amplification Kit (Yfiler kit, released in 2004). The Yfiler plus kit includes the 17 Y-STR loci of the Yfiler kit and has been supplemented with 10 new Y-STR loci. First, we analyzed the sensitivity difference between the two kits using commercial control DNA 2800M and 007. In addition, we compared the detection rate between the two kits from the 16 selected forensic casework samples of less than 0.5 ng concentrations. The results show that the sensitivity and detection rate of the Yfiler plus kit are higher than the corresponding rates of the Yfiler kit. In addition, we were able to obtain more Y-STR profiles with the use of the new kit. Thus, we suggest that Yfiler plus kit is a more effective forensic tool to detect Y-STR profiles from forensic casework samples of low concentrations.

Digital Camera Identification Based on Interpolation Pattern Used Lens Distortion Correction (디지털 카메라의 렌즈 왜곡 보정에 사용된 보간 패턴 추출을 통한 카메라 식별 방법)

  • Throughout developing digital technology, reproduction of image is growing better day by day. And at the same time, diverse image editing softwares are developed to manage images easily. In the process of editing images, those programs could delete or modify EXIF files which have the original image information; therefore images without the origin source are widely spread on the web site after editing. This matter could affect analysis of images due to the distortion of originality. Especially in the court of law, the source of evidence should be expressed clearly; therefore digital image EXIF file without deletion or distortion could not be the objective evidence. In this research, we try to trace the identification of a digital camera in order to solve digital images originality, and also we focus on lens distortion correction algorism which is used in digital image processing. Lens distortion correction uses mapping algorism, and at this moment it also uses interpolation algorism to prevent aliasing artifact and reconstruction artifact. At this point interpolation shows the similar mapping pattern; therefore we want to find out the interpolation evidence. We propose a minimum filter algorism in order to detect interpolation pattern and adjust the same minimum filter coefficient in two areas; one has interpolation and the second has no interpolation. Throughout DFT, we confirm frequency character between each area. Based on this result, we make the final detection map by using differences between two areas. In other words, thereby the area which has the interpolation caused by mapping is adjusted using minimum filter for detection algorism; the second area which has no interpolation tends to different frequency character.

Research on the detection of LCN DNA from traces on firearms (총기 흔적흔에서의 low copy number(LCN) DNA 검출에 관한 연구)

  • Genetic Identification has become an important forensic investigation method which discerns identity through analysis of physical samples discovered in various crime scenes. Recently more samples are being requested to undergo A-STR analysis of low copy number (LCN) DNA, which is known as touch evidence-type sample and left on various objects such as a pen briefly used by the criminal, the gear of the car used for driving, the handle, and various buttons inside a car. This research attempted to extract the LCN DNA of the touch evidencetype left on crushed fingerprints on firearms, etc. and examine the genotyping success rate. Four types of firearms (M16, K1A, COLT 45 Pistol, M29 Revolver) were fired individually and physical samples were gathered from four parts of each firearm. Subsequently, in order to extract the LCN DNA, Microkit and $Prepfiler^{TM}$ were used to compare and analyze the quantity of DNA extracted and the genotyping success rate. Analysis results showed that the quantity of DNA extracted by $Prepfiler^{TM}$ was on average 1.7 times higher than that of Microkit, and in genotype analysis success rate $Prepfiler^{TM}$ also demonstrated 24.9% on average in contrast to 0% for Microkit. In regards to the grip part of the K1A, $Prepfiler^{TM}$'s success rate was as high as 50.6%.

  • In this paper, we introduce a speaker overlap system and look at the process of converting the existed system on the specific framework of artificial intelligence. Speaker overlap is when two or more speakers speak at the same time during a conversation, and can lead to performance degradation in the fields of speech recognition or speaker recognition, and a lot of research is being conducted because it can prevent performance degradation. Recently, as application of artificial intelligence is increasing, there is a demand for switching between artificial intelligence frameworks. However, when switching frameworks, performance degradation is observed due to the unique characteristics of each framework, making it difficult to switch frameworks. In this paper, the process of converting the speaker overlap detection system based on the Keras framework to the pytorch-based system is explained and considers components. As a result of the framework switching, the pytorch-based system showed better performance than the existing Keras-based speaker overlap detection system, so it can be said that it is valuable as a fundamental study on systematic framework conversion.

Risk Situation Recognition Using Facial Expression Recognition of Fear and Surprise Expression (공포와 놀람 표정인식을 이용한 위험상황 인지)

  • This paper proposes an algorithm for risk situation recognition using facial expression. The proposed method recognitions the surprise and fear expression among human's various emotional expression for recognizing risk situation. The proposed method firstly extracts the facial region from input, detects eye region and lip region from the extracted face. And then, the method applies Uniform LBP to each region, discriminates facial expression, and recognizes risk situation. The proposed method is evaluated for Cohn-Kanade database image to recognize facial expression. The DB has 6 kinds of facial expressions of human being that are basic facial expressions such as smile, sadness, surprise, anger, disgust, and fear expression. The proposed method produces good results of facial expression and discriminates risk situation well.

Fusion Approach to Targeted Opinion Detection in Blogosphere (블로고스피어에서 주제에 관한 의견을 찾는 융합적 의견탐지방법)

  • This paper presents a fusion approach to sentiment detection that combines multiple sources of evidence to retrieve blogs that contain opinions on a specific topic. Our approach to finding opinionated blogs on topic consists of first applying traditional information retrieval methods to retrieve blogs on a given topic and then boosting the ranks of opinionated blogs based on the opinion scores computed by multiple sentiment detection methods. Our sentiment detection strategy, whose central idea is to rely on a variety of complementary evidences rather than trying to optimize the utilization of a single source of evidence, includes High Frequency module, which identifies opinions based on the frequency of opinion terms (i.e., terms that occur frequently in opinionated documents), Low Frequency module, which makes use of uncommon/rare terms (e.g., "sooo good") that express strong sentiments, IU Module, which leverages n-grams with IU (I and you) anchor terms (e.g., I believe, You will love), Wilson's lexicon module, which uses a collection-independent opinion lexicon constructed from Wilson's subjectivity terms, and Opinion Acronym module, which utilizes a small set of opinion acronyms (e.g., imho). The results of our study show that combining multiple sources of opinion evidence is an effective method for improving opinion detection performance.

Analysis of Amelogenin Gene and Short Tandem Reeat(STR) Locus F13A01, LPL from Dentin of the Endodontic Treated Teeth (근관치료된 치아상질에서 Amelogenin Gene 및 Short Tandem Repeat(STR) 유전좌위 F13A01, LPL에 대한 분석)

  • 치아는 성별과 연령의 추정은 물론 혈형 검사와 유전자 검사까지 가능하게 하는 중요한 법의치과학적 자료이다 대부분 치아를 이용한 연구는 핵 DNA가 들어있는 치수에서의 연구로 치수내에는 풍부한 혈액 및 세포가 분포해 있어 핵 DNA가 다량 함유되어 있다. 그러나 순수 상아질에는 핵이 없고 따라서 핵 DNA도 없는 것으로 알려졌지만 치수내에 존재하는 핵 DNA가 상아세관을 통하여 상아질내로 침투할 가능성이 있고 실제 근관치료가 되어 있는 무수치를 감정하게 되는 경우도 있다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 치아중에서도 근관치료를 받은 무수치에서 개인식별에 활용되는 유전자가 검출되는지 여부를 확인하고자 하였다. 40개의 근관치료된 치아상아질에서 DNA출 추출하고 중합효소반응을 이용하여 증폭절편다형(Amp-FLPs)을 실시하고 X-Y homologous amelogenin gene과 STR 유전좌위 F13A01, LPL를 검색하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 1. 40개의 근관치료된 치아중 19개에서 DNA가 추출되었다. 2. X-Y homologous amelogenin gene 검색으로 40개의 근관치료된 치아에서 21의 남자 치아중 5개, 19개의 여자치아중 7개 등 모두 12개 치아에서 성별검사가 가능하였다. 3. F13A01 유전자는 43개의 근관치료된 치아중 6개의 치아에서 검색되었으며, 4개의 대립유전자 및 5개의 유전자형을 관찰하였다. 4. LPL_유전자는 40개의 근관치료된 치아중 7개의 치아에서 검색되었으며, 3개의 대립유전자 및 3개의 유건자형을 관찰하였다. 이상의 결과를 종합하여 볼 때 근관치료된 치아상아질에서 중합효소반응을 이용한 성별검사 및 STR 유전자위의 검색은 일부 치아에서만 가능하였으나, 근관치료된 치아들도 개인식별을 위한 법의치과학적 자료로서 유용할 것으로 사료된다.
