Difference of Facial Skin Temperature Responses between Fear and Joy (공포와 기쁨 정서 간 안면온도 반응의 차이)

  • There have been many emotion researches to investigate physiological responses on specific emotions with physiological parameters such as heart rate, blood volume flow, and skin conductance. Very few researches, however, exists by detecting them with facial skin temperature. The purpose of present study was to observe the differences of facial skin temperature by using thermal camera, when participants stimulated by monitor scenes which could evoke fear or joy. There were totally 98 of participants; undergraduate students who were in their adult age and middle, high school students who were in their adolescence. We measured their facial temperature, before and after presenting emotional stimulus to see changes between both times. Temperature values were extracted in these regions; forehead, inner corners of the eyes, bridge of the nose, end of the nose, and cheeks. Temperature values in bridge and end of the nose were significantly decreased in fear emotion stimulated. There was also significant temperature increase in the area of forehead and the inner corners of the eyes, while the temperature value in end of the nose decreased. It showed decrease in both stimulated fear and joy. These results might be described as follows: When arousal level going up, sympathetic nervous activity increases, and in turn it makes blood flow in peripheral vessels under the nose decrease. Facial temperature changes by fear or joy in this study were the same as the previous studies which measured temperature of finger tip, when participants experiencing emotions. Our results may help to develop emotion-measuring techniques and establish computer system bases which are to detect human emotions.

Analysis of the Necessary Mechanical Properties of Embroiderable Conductive Yarns for Measuring Pressure and Stretch Textile Sensor Electrodes (생체 신호 측정 압력 및 인장 직물 센서 전극용 자수가 가능한 전도사의 필요 물성 분석)

  • In this study, we investigated the necessary mechanical properties of conductive multifilament yarns for fabricating the electrodes of biosignal measurement pressure and stretch textile sensors using embroidery. When electrodes and circuits for smart wearable products are produced through the embroidery process using conductive multifilament yarns, unnecessary material loss is minimized, and complex electrode shapes or circuit designs can be produced without additional processes using a computer embroidering machine. However, because ordinary missionary threads cannot overcome the stress in the embroidery process and yarn cutting occurs, herein, we analyzed the S-S curve, thickness, and twist structure, which are three types of silver-coated multifilament yarns, and measured the stress in the thread of the embroidery simultaneously. Thus, the required mechanical properties of the yarns in the embroidery process were analyzed. In the actual sample production, cutting occurred in silver-coated multifilament rather than silver-coated polyamide/polyester, which showed the lowest S-S curve. In the embroidery process, the twist was unwound through repetitive vertical movement. Further, we fabricated a piezoresistive pressure/tension sensor to measure gauge factor, which is an index for measuring biological signals. We confirmed that the sensor can be applied to the fabrication of embroidery electrodes, which is an important process in the mass production of smart wearable products.

Is Political Polarization Reinforced in the Online World?: Empirical Findings of Comments about News Articles (온라인 공간의 정치 양극화는 심화될 것인가?: 선거 기사 댓글에 대한 경험적 분석)

  • The purpose of this research is to investigate the attributes of the online world and to analyze their influence on democracy. The research focuses on the mayoral by-elections that were held in Seoul and Busan, South Korea, on April 4, 2021. The study demonstrates the characteristics of online spaces and the polarization of the online public through news articles and user comments from the Internet. The research includes topic modeling to measure the diversity of media reports, sentiment analysis to measure online public opinion, and interrupted time series analysis to understand how a particular event influences online attitudes. A combination of these methods is used to attempt to estimate the strength of political polarity in the online environment. The study shows diverse media reports by election region and candidate, where the online public repeatedly reveals high negative and low positive attitudes towards each candidate. Moreover, political polarity can differ based on the level of interest in an election. Although voters pay less attention to a by-election than a presidential election, there is a solid political polarity in the online world. Hence, the research recommends preparing measures to alleviate the polarization as politics requires significant online participation.

Crafting a Quality Performance Evaluation Model Leveraging Unstructured Data (비정형데이터를 활용한 건축현장 품질성과 평가 모델 개발)

  • The frequent occurrence of structural failures at building construction sites in Korea has underscored the critical role of rigorous oversight in the inspection and management of construction projects. As mandated by prevailing regulations and standards, onsite supervision by designated supervisors encompasses thorough documentation of construction quality, material standards, and the history of any reconstructions, among other factors. These reports, predominantly consisting of unstructured data, constitute approximately 80% of the data amassed at construction sites and serve as a comprehensive repository of quality-related information. This research introduces the SL-QPA model, which employs text mining techniques to preprocess supervision reports and establish a sentiment dictionary, thereby enabling the quantification of quality performance. The study's findings, demonstrating a statistically significant Pearson correlation between the quality performance scores derived from the SL-QPA model and various legally defined indicators, were substantiated through a one-way analysis of variance of the correlation coefficients. The SL-QPA model, as developed in this study, offers a supplementary approach to evaluating the quality performance of building construction projects. It holds the promise of enhancing quality inspection and management practices by harnessing the wealth of unstructured data generated throughout the lifecycle of construction projects.

  • The purpose of this article is to study the prospect of implementing a public common practice of ethics based on the 'Reordering Works of Heaven and Earth.' The 'Reordering Works of Heaven and Earth' demonstrated the prospect of a public common practice of ethics through the shared public action that would connect and mediate both the public domain and the private domain. In addition, the 'Reordering Works of Heaven and Earth' of Gucheon Sangje (九天上帝) provided us with a complete transformation, meaning the opening of a new era, transforming heaven and earth from their state in the Prior World to their optimized state in the Later World. This culminates in a new manifestation of a peaceful world revealed a prosperity and the prospect of common happiness and common order for the public. In addition, the 'Reordering Works of Heaven and Earth' has a public value as a religious culture that responds to social change and social needs. The 'Reordering Works of Heaven and Earth' revealed the prospect of a public common practice of ethics, placed importance on creating a new foundation, and restoring phenomena back to its original order. The 'Reordering Works of Heaven and Earth' presented various multi-faceted, multi-layered outlets of soteriology while exploring solutions to public issues and revealing human dignity. Through the new construction of Heaven and Earth, Gucheon Sangje had intervened in projects for human relief. The public ethical indicators of 'the actor' here are in line with those of the 'Non-action Tao' of Laozi. As the cosmos enters into the new epoch, humans have living together with the previous cosmic principle. Now we can expect the Prior World to open into a different era as humans embrace a cosmic life of 'Non-action Tao.' The active conjunction of the virtues of yin and yang is an idea of horizontal communication related to reordering of the universe. The harmonious union of divine beings and human beings suggests the way of enabling vertical communication. The resolution of grievances for the mutual beneficence of life is an ethics of peace that aims at achieving coexistence and prosperity. The private realization of Tao and the completion of the Tao in the world suggest the prospect of a common practice of ethics as means of implementing human dignity.

  • 'Digilog Book' dealing with the combination of each advantage of analog sensibility on texts and digital sensation on virtual reality is one of the noble applications of U-book. Based on contents from books, enhancing 3D immersive display enable readers to enjoy various experiences with multisensory feedback provided. Also, 'Digilog Book' provides digitally created stories that would project different experiences and environments interacting users' choices on the interface of the book. This study focuses on developing users friendly implementation tools providing more interaction between digitally generated stories and digitally generated interface so that interaction between virtual reality and actual realty is expanded through simulating contexts and extents. From the application scenario 'Digilog Book' would perform as a storytelling tool with developing subordinated elements such as context structure, screen structure, definition of writing function, writing interface, writing system structure, etc. Therefore, this study would become a significance to direct and indicate the development of writing techniques on virtual reality back to life through digitally augmented reality.

  • Information Culture Index (ICI) is the quantitative value that represents people's information literacy levels. Also, it diagnoses the people's knowledge, ethics, emotion, and practice synthetically. As the Internet and cell phone addiction have been increasing when people access information on the web recently, it is necessary to analyze the meaning of the ICI from the Internet and cell phone addiction perspectives and to confirm if it goes well in the right direction. In this paper, we analyze the characteristics of the people who have high ICIs. At the same time, we perform the statistical analysis combining ICIs with the Internet and the cell-phone addiction levels. In particular, the meaning of the Information Practicing factor, which is one of the ICI factors, is examined. By doing these, we confirm if the current ICI works correctly or not, and propose a better way for measuring ICIs. In order to do these, we survey and analyze data with basic statistical methods and structural equation model.

  • 오늘날 화장품 산업은 역동적으로 끊임없이 변화하고 있다. 화장품은 한 사회 구성원들의 다양한 욕구, 가치관 및 생할양식에 영향을 미치며 심지어는 국가의 정치적 기후나 경제적인 상태를 나타내는 지표역할을 담당하기도 한다. 즉, 화장품 과학은 예방의학, 건강과학이라는 차원에서 뿐만 아니라 미적인 차원에서 새로운 상품개발이 진행되어갈 것이다. 지금 우리는 21세기를 향하여 1990년대의 중반기에 들어섰다. 80년대는 물질 문명의 중심으로 생활의 질의 풍요로움을 추구하였으나 90년대는 소비자 우선의 풍요로움을 향수하는 시대가 되었다. 또한 여성이 사회진출, 고령화의 급속한 진전, 고 학력화, 개인의 가치관 존중 및 많은 생활패턴의 변화가 마음의 풍요로움을 구하는 사람들이 늘어나고 물질적 의존도로 부터의 탈피가 크게 강조되고 있다. 이에 마음의 풍요로움을 창조하여 연출하는 화장품산업의 역할이 고기능성에 의한 부가가치를 높이고 마음의 풍요로움을 지원하기 위한 연구개발에 중점을 두고 진행되어 가고 있다. 화장품을 여성들의 치장이라고 하는 주체적 행위에 도움을 주는 하드웨어라고 한다면 소비자의 마음은 소프트웨어로써 소비자 입장에서 만족할 수 있는 전략을 구사하는 아이디어가 있어야 하는데 그에 상응하는 대책으로 스킨케어를 들 수 있다. 스킨케어란 병든 피부를 제외한 여러 가지 유형의 피부를 화장품과 미용기기를 이용하여 그에 맞게 예방관리 하여 건강하고 아름답게 보호 유지하는 전문 분야이다. 즉, 스킨케어는 화장품 이용을 통하여 미래의 소비자들의 다양한 비용 욕구 및 소망에 효과적으로 대응할 수 있는 소프트웨어라고 할 수 있다., 또한 스킨케어는 화장품 뿐만 아니라 신체적 접촉을 통하여 안위를 제공하는 수단으로 단순한 피부손질이라는 문제에 그치지 않고 접촉을 통해 마음과 신체의 균형을 꾀하는 생명현상의 심층과 연관되는 중요한 의미가 있다. 스킨케어는 불어로 Soin Esthetique 라고 하는데 어원을 보면 손질, 처치, 보살핌 그리고 배려를 의미한다. 지금으로부터 200년전 독일의 미학자인 Baumgarten이 미는 인간에게 만족과 쾌감을 주는 대상이며 미는 보는 사람의 마음에 있다라는 감성의 미학에서 Esthetique라는 단어를 처음 사용했다. 다시 말하면 Soim Esthetique는 인간의 마음 만족과 쾌감을 주는 배려 있는 조치로써 여성이 화장을 함으로써 외모의 조화에서 마음과 신체의 균형을 꾀하는 생명현상의 심층과 연관되는 것과 마찬가지로 에스테틱과 화장의 심리는 매우 땔래야 땔 수 없는 불과분의 밀접한 관계라 볼 수 있다.

IT Korea 성공을 위한 R&D방향

  • 외환위기 이후 IT는 우리 경제의 견인차로 인식되어 왔으나 2000년대 초두의 IT 버블 붕괴 이후 극심한 성장정체를 겪으면서 일부 학자 및 정책입안자를 중심으로 IT 역할에 대한 회의론적 시각이 제기되어 왔다. 그러나, 지난 2~3년간의 각종 경제지표를 볼 때, IT는 여전히 우리 경제에서 중요한 역할을 하고 있음을 확인할 수 있을 뿐만 아니라 미래사회에의 대응을 위해서도 IT에 대한 관심 제고가 무엇보다도 절실한 시점이라 하겠다. 특히, 스마트폰의 등장에 따라 스마트폰 환경에 최적화된 다양한 애플리케이션의 등장과 이를 이용한 모바일 서비스의 보급 확산으로 IT 기기 및 서비스 산업의 경쟁구조에 근본적인 변화가 발생하면서 IT 강국이라는 국가적 브랜드마저 위협받고 있는 시점이어서 더욱 그렇다. 스마트폰의 등장으로 국가경쟁력 결정 패턴이 노동과 자본 등 전통적인 생산요소에 기반한 개별 산업분야의 경쟁우위를 기초로 결정되던 형태에서 감성과 창의성 등 소프트 파워의 보유 정도에 따라 결정되는 형태로 전환되었다는 점에서 R&D전략에 있어서도 중요한 전환점을 맞고 있다고 보여진다. 또한, 산업사회와 정보사회에 이어 급격한 기술혁신에 따른 기술간 및 산업간 융합의 정도가 산업 전반의 경쟁구도에 영향을 미칠 것으로 대부분의 전문가들이 예견하고 있으나, 산업현장이나 기술분야에서 실제적으로 발생되는 융합의 양상은 그다지 신속하지 못한 것으로 나타나고 있다. 따라서, 기술간 및 산업간 융합촉진을 통한 전산업 경쟁력 제고를 위한 R&D 방향 모색이 필요한 시점이다. 이에 따라 본고에서는 스마트폰의 등장에 따른 IT산업의 경쟁구도 변화와 글로벌 기업들의 전략, 대응방향 등을 살펴보는 한편 IT의 전반적인 활용도 증가에 따라 더욱 가속화될 것으로 전망되는 기술간 및 산업간 융합시대에 대응한 IT R&D 방향을 살펴본다. 이는 궁극적으로 IT 강국이라는 국가적 브랜드 이미지의 고착화 전략인 동시에 IT 기반의 융합을 촉진시킴으로써 스마트한 IT Korea라는 국가적 미래비전을 달성해 나가기 위한 방향이 될 것이다.

Evaluation of Sound Quality for Ergonomic Design of Movable Parts in a Refrigerator (냉장고 동작부품의 소음특성 분석을 통한 감성품질 개선)

  • We propose a method for evaluating sound quality quantitatively to develop high-level home appliances (HA). Generally, a refrigerator has diverse movable parts such as slider, drawer, and folding shelf. Therefore, an engineering treatment to control the noise quality is considered as one of key technologies for a higher level refrigerator. Among the movable parts, we have selected a folding shelf as an example, which is commonly setup inside of a home refrigerator for increasing space convenience, to control the noise quality. However, it is known that its noise level is very high comparing to other movable parts when folding or unfolding actions. In order to evaluate and compare the noise quality, we have tested different eighteen models, and have suggested an impact sound quality index (ISQI) based on subjective evaluation data obtained experimentally by thirty two evaluators. The ISQI was formulated using three sound quality elements (noise peak, raising time, impact duration) to determine psycho-acoustic properties. Through this work, we developed an evaluating process and ISQI that was verified the usefulness by comparing the test results of personal perceptions given by evaluators with the prediction value of ISQI. We showed a good relations between them, so we believe that the proposed method and ISQI can be utilized to control of the noise quality of HA effectively.
