Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop effective management indicators for improving efficiencies of visiting nursing centers. Method: This was a methodological research study to develop the key performance indicators based on balanced score cards for long-term care visiting nursing centers. The main methods used in this study were literature review, focus group interview, and content validity index. The data analysis was used frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation. Results: The common vision of the long-term care visiting nursing centers was identified as "The healthy visiting nursing center to serve high quality cares." Eight action strategies and 15 key performance indicators to achieve this vision were developed. Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, we suggest that the developed balanced score cards will be used as an effective managerial guideline to improve performances of long-term care visiting nursing centers.
Purpose: This study was conducted to develop nursing outcome indicators based on nursing activities done for stroke patients. Method: focus group meeting and delphi technique, which consisted of clinical nurse experts, neurologist, and nursing professors. CVI(Index of Content Validity) and user validity test was performed. Result: 12 nursing diagnoses, 29 nursing interventions and nursing outcomes were identified. The former were from NIC and the latter were developed according to nursing interventions. They were verified by experts in focus group. 199 nursing activities were identified, 133 nursing outcome indicators were developed. In user validity, usefulness and usability were tested. Conclusion: This systemic approach of measuring nursing outcomes verified nurses' positive effects in changing patients health status and nursing contributions in the health care system as a profession.
Purpose: This study aims to develop, verify, and suggest outcome indicators for advanced practice nurses (APNs) in order to clarify their usefulness. Methods: To develop outcome indicators, the following methods were applied: reviewing literature intended to identify preliminary outcome indicators; surveying outcome indicators currently used for APNs and collecting the opinions from representatives of the professionals in clinical practice; verifying the content validity of preliminary outcome indicators by professionals and verifying the preliminary outcome indicators with 252 APNs. Results: Suggested outcome indicators are categorized into 84 items in total. Of these, the number of outcome indicators commonly appearing across disciplines was 18, mostly related to satisfaction and education. A majority of other outcome indictors exhibiting high relevance to individual disciplines are associated with care, including critical care (19 items), oncologic care (9 items) and emergency care (10 items). Conclusion: As the outcome indicators identified in this study are available to demonstrate the usefulness of APNs, it is recommended that future studies need to select and use appropriate outcome indicators according to characteristics and conditions of the discipline under examination. In addition, it is necessary to validate whether the suggested outcome indicators reflect adequately the practices of APNs.

Stage III : The contribution score according to nursing organizational level (nursing department, nursing unit, nurse) for PMIs were surveyed by questionnaire. Data was analyzed using descriptive statics and ANOVA test. Results: Eight strategies were defined according to 4 perspectives of BSC. Eighteen PMIs were determined according to the strategies. The nurse considered the contribution of nursing department most highly on the 13 among 18 PMIs. Conclusion: This study provided basic data for further study to identify the subject of responsibility on the strategic management of performance.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop visions of nursing service, nursing strategies and key performance indicators (KPIs) for an intensive care unit (ICU) based on a Balanced Scorecard (BSC). Methods: This study was undertaken by using methodological research. The development process consisted of four phases; the first phase was to develop the vision of nursing in ICUs. The second phase was to develop strategies according to 4 perspectives of a BSC. The third phase was to develop KPIs according to the 4 perspectives of BSC and the final phase was to combine the nursing visions, strategies and KPIs of ICUs. Results: Two main visions of nursing service for ICUs were established. These were 'realization of harmonized professional nursing with human respect' and 'recovery of health through specialized nursing' respectively. In order to reach the aim of developing nursing visions, thirteen practical strategies and nineteen KPIs were developed by four perspectives of the BSC. Conclusion: The results will be used as objective fundamental data to attain business outcomes for the achievement of nursing visions and strategies of ICUs.
Purpose: The purpose of this survey was to identify a set of performance indicators for Korean APNs (Advanced Practice Nurses). Methods: A convenience sample of 78 APNs working in 2 leading hospitals in south Korea participated in the three-round Delphi survey. In the first round, subjects were asked to propose performance indicators to evaluate the effectiveness of their practice. They rated the relevancy of each indicator during the second round. In the final round of survey, subjects rated the relevancy of indicators again in the light of second round's overall results and they also were asked to check on current and future use of indicators. Results: After 5 months of three-round Delphi survey, 60 performance indicators were identified. In regard to relevancy, the 10 highly ranked indicators were patient satisfaction, self-care ability, expertise of service, family satisfaction, nurse satisfaction, satisfaction in nursing education, advanced nursing service count, education for patient/ family, education for nurse, and compliance. Advanced nursing service count, education for patient/ family, and education for nurse are currently used as indicators by more than 70% of respondents. Conclusion: Additional research is needed to identify subsets of performance indicators for specialized areas and to determine the validity and sensitivity of indicators.

Methods: The preliminary performance measurement indicators was created through a literature review and had the content validity by a professional. This survey was sent via post to 316 nurse managers and nurses with more than 5 years of experience in seven secondary and tertiary hospitals in the Seoul Gyonggi district. The completed questionnaires were returned by mail. Results: Fourteen indicators for finances, 16 for customer services, 27 for internal business processes, and 13 for learning and growth were selected. Conclusion: Amidst a rapidly changing medical environment, a first step was taken towards developing a performance measurement from various perspectives for nursing organizations in hospitals from various perspectives, rather than just one or a past-oriented perspective. However, as the most important thing is to actually use these indicators, continuous interest in publicity and education must be developed.
