  • The purpose of the study was to identify and compare levels of recognition of empowerment, job satisfaction, organizational commitment between Advanced Practice Nurses(APN) and Registered Nurses(RN) of hospitals. Data collection was done by the 85 APN and 120 RN of six large hospitals, four medium sized hospitals in Seoul and Incheon. T-test and ANOVA using SPSS 18.0 were performed. There were no significant differences of empowerment between APN($3.56{\pm}0.53$) and RN($3.50{\pm}0.54$)(t =-. 861, p = 0.390). job satisfaction between APN($3.36{\pm}0.53$) and RN($3.25{\pm}0.46$)(t =- 1.575, p = 0.117), organizational commitment between APN($3.11{\pm}0.34$) and RN($3.05{\pm}0.36$)(t =- 1.301, p = 0.195). Empowerment, job satisfaction, organizational commitment of APN and RN showed no significant differences. There are some reasons why it resulted in no significant difference between APN and RN. APN's role in Korea is not clearly established and distinguished from RN, lack of appropriacy of employment and reward, and lack of the institutional foundation for APN's operation and efficiency.

The participants were 241 4th grade nursing students who had clinical practice over a year from 3 nursing colleges in G city and J province. Data were collected with structured questionnaires from March 27th to April 17th, 2015 and analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, one way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation and multiple regression with SPSS 21.0 program. As a result, the level of attitude of patient safety was 3.68 score and PSMA was 4.03 score. In PSMA, there were significant differences in practice period(p=.020) and practice satisfaction(p=.026). There was a positive correlation(p<.001) among attitude of patient safety and PSMA. The most effective factor on PSMA was practice satisfaction, followed by attitude of patient safety. Based on the findings of this study, suggest that to develop the systematic education program considering effective factors of PSMA for nursing students.

Nursing attitude and behavior that can be described as voluntary and proactive organizational citizenship behavior(OCB). OCB affects the work performance of nurses in clinical practice is very important and organizational justice is an important influencing factors of OCB. The purpose of this study was to determine the influential factors of organizational justice on OCB of nurses. The descriptive-correlational method was applied. The study was carried out less than a 500-bed hospital. Participants of the study included 230 nurses working in secondary hospitals. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient and multiple regression with the 18.0 SPSS/Window program. Considering the components of organizational justice, there was a significant positive correlation(r=.172~.540, p=.000) between OCB and distributive, procedural and interactional justice. Also, Total organizational justice explained 29.1% of total OCB with influencing factor (${\beta}$=.540) and was statistically significant(F=93.777, p=.000). The influencing factors to OCB were distributive justice(${\beta}$=.283) and interactional justice(${\beta}$=.249) except procedural justice. The findings suggest that strategies of nursing management are needed to focus on distributive justice for compensation and interactional justice for social relationship in order to induce nurses' organizational citizenship behavior.

  • This study was conducted to investigate nursing students' safety-climate: perception and performance of standard precautions for healthcare-associated infection control. We also identified actors influencing performance of standard precautions. Data were collected from 246 junior and senior nursing students at nine colleges in D city from July to September, 2016. The mean score of performance was significantly lower than that of perception in all areas of standard precautions. The biggest difference between perception and performance was in the usage of personal protective equipment and safe injection practices. We also detected significant positive correlations among safety-climate, perception, and performance of standard precautions. In the regression analysis, performance of standard precautions was influenced by safety-climate and grade accounting for 10.7% of variance. To improve healthcare-associated infection control among nursing students, safer and more supportive practical environments need to be provided, and new training strategies such as simulation education need to be expanded.

  • This systematic review was performed to investigate relationship between sarcopenia and cognitive function among community-dwelling older adults. Studies which reported prevalence rates of sarcopenia in community-dwelling older adults, relationships between sarcopenia and cognitive dysfunction, or effective interventions in alleviated symptoms of sarcopenia were selected. Of 43 studies reviewed, prevalence rate of sarcopenia ranged from 2.5-42.4% in 25 studies, and 4 studies revealed a significantly positive correlation between sarcopenia and cognitive dysfunction. Among 12 randomized-control trials (RCTs), exercise intervention was used in 2 studies; nutrition intervention in 6; and 4 studies included both the exercise and nutrition interventions. All interventional studies reported positive effects on muscle mass, muscle strength, or physical function. However, only 6 studies met the high quality criteria of Risk of Bias, and there was no study which evaluated cognitive function as an outcome measure. Therefore, this study draws attention to the lack of high-quality RCTs and exclusion of cognitive function as an outcome measure in the research of sarcopenia. A comprehensive and sustained system including standardized sarcopenia screening, assessments of cognitive functioning, and evidence-based intervention programs is needed in order to prevent and manage sarcopenia amongst older adults in the community.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the knowledge and educational needs of nurses and physicians on home ventilator. Methods: The participants were 140 nurses and 47 physicians working at departments using home ventilators. The data were collected from January 30 to February 12, 2012 through a self-administered questionnaire with 32 items of the knowledge and educational needs on home ventilator. Results: The mean scores of nurses' and physicians' knowledge were 2.52 and 2.56 respectively. The mean scores of nurses' and physicians' educational needs were 3.16 and 3.06 respectively. Nurses' knowledge was associated with their experience using and receiving education about home ventilator and willingness to receive education about home ventilator education. Nurses' educational needs were associated with their present working department and experience using home ventilator. Nurses with high knowledge were more likely to have high educational needs. Physicians' knowledge and educational needs were not associated with any their general characteristics. Conclusion: Nurses' and physicians' knowledge of home ventilator were low and their educational needs on home ventilator were high. To provide high quality of care for home ventilators, it is necessary to provide nurses and physicians with education and to develop a more specific educational program for them.
