The void ratio is an important parameter for reflecting the soil behavior including physical property, compressibility, and relative density. The void ratio can be obtained by laboratory test with extracted soil samples. However, the specimen has a possibility to be easily disturbed due to the stress relief when extracting, vibration during transportation, and error in experimental process. Thus, the theoretical equations have been suggested for obtaing the void ratio based on the elastic wave velocities. The objective of this paper is to verify the accuracy of the proposed analytical solution through the error norm. The paper covers the theoretical methods of Wood, Gassmann and Foti. The elastic wave velocity is determined by the Field Velocity Probe in the southern part of Korean Peninsular. And the rest parameters are assumed based on the reference values. The Gassmann method shows the high reliability on determining the void ratio. The error norm is also analyzed as substitution of every parameter. The results show every equation has various characteristics. Thus, this paper may be widely applied for obtaining the void ratio according to the field condition.

A parallel manipulator has high stiffness and all the joint errors on the device are not accumulated at the end -effector unlike a serial manipulator. These are the reasons why the parallel manipulator has been widely used in many fields of industry. In the parallel manipulator, it is very important to predict the exact pose of the end-effector when we want to control the end-effector motion. Installation errors have to be determined in order to predict and control the actual position and pose of the end-effector. This paper presents an algorithm to find the whole 36 joint error components with joint clearance errors and measurement errors considered, when a link length measurement sensor is used and data more than 36 times are acquired for 36 different configurations. A simulation test using this algorithm is performed with a Matlab program which uses the Levenberg-Marquardt method that is known to be efficient for non-linear optimization.

CCS was developed and applied to rotating machines because of accurately measuring the spindle error motion without significant efforts. However, researches on the CCS have been focused on ideal cases where circumferential gaps were ignored. This paper presents the effects of circumferential gaps and proposes an optimal CCS considering the circumferential gaps. First, electrostatic analysis of the CCS that includes the circumferential gaps is performed using the FEM, and an additional capacitance due to the circumferential gap can be approximated as an equivalent extended sensor length. Second, a mathematical model of the CCS considering the circumferential gaps is derived, and the optimal CCS is determined through minimization of the weighted error amplification factor. Finally, two CCSs, both considering and ignoring the circumferential gaps, are built, and the effectiveness of the optimal design is verified through simulation and experiment.
This study was performed to evaluation the consolidation behavior of agricultural reservoir in the very soft ground. The final settlement prediction methods by Terzaghi, Hyperbolic and Asaoka methods were used to compare with the degree of consolidation estimated by exess pore water pressure. The dissipated excess pore water pressure during embankment construction and peak excess pore water pressure on the completed embankment were suggested for the estimation of the degree of consolidation. It was concluded that the degree of consolidation estimated from dissipated excess pore water pressure was more reliable than that from the peak excess pore water pressure. The stability methods for agricultural reservoir was used to compare and analyze with various condition by limit equilibrium method.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the marginal and internal adaptation of monolithic zirconia restoration made without physical model by digital intraoral scanner. Materials and methods: A prospective clinical trial was performed on 11 restorations as a pilot study. The monolithic zirconia restorations were fabricated after digital intraoral impression taking by intraoral scanner (TRIOS, 3shape, Copenhagen, Denmark), computer-aided designing, and milling manufacturing process. Completed zirconia crowns were tried in the patients' mouth and a replica technique was used to acquire the crown-abutment replica. The absolute marginal discrepancy, marginal gap, and internal gap of axial, line angle, and occlusal part were measured after sectioning the replica in the mesiodistal and buccolingual direction. Statistical analysis was performed using Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney U test (${\alpha}=.05$). Results: From the adaptation analysis by replica, the statistically significant difference was not found between mesiodistal and buccolingual sections (P>.05), but there was significant difference among the measurement location (P<.01). The amount of absolute marginal discrepancy was larger than those of marginal gap and internal gap (P<.01). Conclusion: Within the limitations of this study, the adaptation accuracy of model-free monolithic zirconia restoration fabricated by intraoral scanner exhibited clinically acceptable result. However, the margin of zirconia crown showed tendency of overcontour and cautious clinical application and follow up is necessary.
The compression index, which represents the compressibility of clay, is generally obtained from the consolidation test, or has been predicted by empirical correlations with soil properties. In this study, the results of consolidation tests on natural and reconstituted Busan and Inchon clays are analyzed to figure out the sedimentation state and its effect on empirical correlations. Results of analysis show that the void index of Busan clay is higher than SCL while the void index of Inchon clay is lower than SCL. By comparing prediction errors with ${\Delta}e_r$, which represents the sedimentation state of clay, it is shown that errors predicting the compressibility based on the liquid limit and plasticity index decrease as ${\Delta}e_r$ increases. Supplemented correlations predicting the compression index of Busan and Inchon clays are suggested using these relationships.

A numerical method to efficiently secure necessary design informations of the hydraulic characteristics of rubble mound breakwater was attempted here. The method combines the exterior wave field with the interior wave field which is formulated incorporating porous media flow inside the breakwaters. An approximate method based on the long wave assumption was used for the exterior wave field while a boundary element method was used for the interior wave field. A hydraulic experiment was also performed to verify the validity of the numerical analysis. The numerical results were compared with experimental data and results from existing formulae. They generally agreed in both reflection and transmission coefficients. The calculated pore pressures also showed a similar pattern with experimental data, even if they gave some significant differences in their values fur some cases. The main cause of such differences can be attributed to the strongly nonlinear wave field occurring on the frontal slope of the breakwater. The direct input of dynamic pressures(measured from hydraulic experiment) into the numerical method was suggested as a promising method to enhance the predictability of pore pressures.

Out-of-sphericity is degree of deformation of an air bearing sphere deviated from a perfect sphere. This paper investigates numerically the effect of out-of-sphericity error on the radial stiffness of an air bearing Three types of out-of-sphericity modes are considered. in this study the stiffness is calculated from pressure distribution at the bearing surface which is obtained by solving th Reynolds equation. in some cases large out-of-sphericity errors are found to improve the stiffnesses of air bearings. This implies that an air bearing of perfect hemispheres is not necessarily of the best performance. Thus much labor and cost in manufacturing air bearings can be saved, In addition the radial stiffness of an air bearing depends greatly on the application direction.
