  • This study was carried out to investigate the efficacy of surface sterilization and the physicochemical properties of electrolyzed water manufactured from various electrolytic diaphragm and electrolyte. Physical properties of electrolyzed water manufactured from the diaphragm system were the most effective at the following conditions; the distance between diaphragms was 1.0 mm and the supplying rate of 20% NaCl was 6 mL/min. The ORP, HClO content and pH at above conditions were 1,170 mV, 100 ppm and 2.5, respectively. And two stage electrolyzed system was more effective than one stage electrolyzed water manufactured from non-diaphragm system, with 4 mL/min supplying rate of 20% NaCl, was similar to the most effective diaphragm system. But ORP, HClO content and pH were abut 800 mV, 200 ppm and 9 level, respectively. Sealed electrolyzed water could be preserved more than one month at room temperature with ORP of 750 mV in non-diaphragm system and 1,150 mV in diaphragm system, and HClO content of 100 ppm. Twelve kinds of microorganism tested were sterilized within 30 seconds from initial total counts of 10$\^$5/∼10$\^$6/cfu/ml by electrolyzed water. Though the ORP and HCIO contents of electrolyzed water manufactured from various electrolyte were higher in order of NaCl>KCl>CaCl$_2$, there were no difference between the electyolytes in the efficacy of sterilization. Salmonella typhi and Vibrio Proteolyticus were also sterilized by electrolyzed water manufactured from elctrolytes of NaCl CaC1$_2$and KCl

  • In the present study, 2-D consolidation theory of the dredged clay by means of the horizontal drain method is proposed. The horizontal drain method to install the drains such as plastic drain board within the dredged clay is a soil improvement method to accelerate the consolidation by expelling pore water in the vertical direction along the horizontal drains. Based on the finite strain consolidation theory by Gibson et al., the partial differential equation of 2-D consolidation due to the horizontal drain is derived. The consolidation due to the horizontal drain can be illustrated from combined self-weight consolidation effect and consolidation effect by horizontal drains. For the prediction of consolidation settlement and degree of consolidation numerical analysis is suggested on the basis of Dufort-Frankel finite differential algorithm. Also, the analytical procedures proposed in this study are verified by the model tests, and the predictions of the consolidation settlement and degree of consolidation are compared with the results obtained from the tests for the dredged clay gathering at Siwha site in Ansan, Korea. For the predictions, the relationship void ratio vs effective stress and the relationship permeability vs void ratio of the dredged clay are obtained from the odometer tests. Additionally, the parametric study for consolidation settlement by variations of design parameters related with horizontal drain method is carried out. Based on the results of the parametric study, design .charts for the preliminary design are also proposed.

  • This paper is concerned with the permeability through a decomposed granite soil layer which is influnced by change of grain sizes and crushed soils made by varied compaction energy. The change in the content of crushed soils can be described in terms of the ratio of surface area ($S_w{^{\prime}}/S_w $). The experiments were carried out to obtain the relationships of the coefficient of permeability(K) versus the optimum moisture content($w_{opt}$) by the variable head permeability test with the samples that were preapared by compaction test. The results are found as follows; (1) By the change in compaction energy, the crush ratio increased whereas the void ratio decreased with a larger maximum dry density running in parallel with the zero air void curve. (2) The ratio of surface area was $0.33(P)^{0.96}$ in $S_w{^{\prime}}/S_w $ with no relation to the compaction energy. (3) The grain size which produced the largest crush of soil particles ranged from 0.5 to 1 millimetre (4) The relationship of K versus $e^3$/1+e appeared as a straight line on the full-log-scale paper under the optimum moisture state. (5) As the compaction energy was larger, the passing percentage of #200-sieve grains increased linearly. The increment in the surface area ratio was deemed to have been caused by the decreased in the permeability.

  • The concrete used most in construction materials. There is an overcrowded iron dimensions use of the concrete at time of the other concrete theory on the reinforcing rod back which did congestion and compares it with this, and there are more few dimensions of the aggregate than concrete, and quantity of aggregate passage is superior in mortar than concrete. If a volume rate of the aggregate writes mortar than concrete against this, therefore, unit amount increases, and quantity of paste increases and quantity of dry shrinkage than increase concrete. However, I let I regulate lay priest distribution of the aggregate, and the results rates increase and reduce unit amount and decrease quantity of dry shrinkage, and separation resistance and the gap passage characteristics are judged because it can be it in a substitute document of very superior concrete. I came to carry out the study that I watched to let I was useful a little more and do the improvement repair of a become building wall body, a basement pillar and repair reinforcement of the assistant in the reinforcing rod back, the old age when I made congestion here. I regulated lay priest distribution of the aggregate in the study and regulated substitution rate of the aggregate (40%, 50%, 60%) and divided W/C 30%, 40% standards and produced mortar and I compared quantity of air by this, slump, compression robbery and showed it this time.

  • Unlike the primary consolidation settlement, the settlement of ground water lowering is not considered separately because of relatively small residual settlement. But the allowed residual settlement (30 mm) of the concrete track in the high-speed railway may be exceeded due to unexpected excessive ground water lowering. This study analyzed the effect of the settlement according to the ground water level change using finite element analysis of stress-pore pressure coupling model, and compared the analysis results with the measured data. As a result, the range of elasticity modulus satisfying the allowable settlement was proposed, and it is suggested that settlement due to ground water level changes should be reflected in the design.

  • In this paper, a series of laboratory chamber tests were performed to evaluate the effects of clays mixed into compaction piles due to confining stress of ground on consolidation promoting. For the tests, various compaction piles such as SCP, GCP, and RAPP (Recycled-Aggregate Porous concrete Pile) were used. The ground condition was simulated at 50% and 100% of degree of consolidation. Also, confining stresses were applied to the composite ground corresponding to those of 5m depth. The amount of mixed clays into each compaction pile were estimated by measuring the drainage from the saturated compaction piles. From the test result, it was shown that the drainage area of compaction pile was changing according to the consolidation condition. GCP showed the most change of drainage area as it has relatively large void ratio; however, the amount of change was decreased by progressing consolidation of ground.

  • Grouting for soil improvement has generally been applied to the depth over water table. Recently, it is needed to develop the grouting technique for soils under greater static water pressure or greater overburden pressure in constructions such as deep excavation or harbour deepening. In this study, a laboratory apparatus was developed to control the injection pressure, load pressure, and hydrostatic pressure. A series of experiments were performed with various degrees of hydrostatic pressure using the developed equipment. As a result, injected volume increase as injection pressure increase, while the volume significantly decreased under hydrostatic pressure. Larger volume of grout bulb was shown in soils with larger granular and pore size based on the comparison result of volume changes with respect to the amount of grouting injection.

  • A series of model tests was conducted to investigate the one-dimensional consolidation behavior of an improved ground where sand compaction piles(SCP) were either fully or partly installed in the model clay ground. In order to check the one-dimensional consolidation settlement and stress concentration ratios, earth pressure, pore pressure transducers and dial gauges were installed in the model clay ground. The test results revealed that the consolidation settlement of the partly penetrated SCP ground was larger than that of the fully penetrated SCP ground, and the stress concentration ratios (m) of the fully penetrated SCP ground were higher than these of the partly penetrated SCP ground. The stress concentration ratio was decreasing with the increase in the penetration depth of SCP.

  • A fully coupled thermo-hydro-mechanical model is established to evaluate frost heave behaviour of saturated frost-susceptible soils. The method is based on mass conservation, energy conservation, and force equilibrium equations, which are fully coupled with each other. These equations consider various physical phenomena during one-dimensional soil freezing such as latent heat of phase change, thermal conductivity changes, pore water migration, and the accompanying mechanical deformation. Using the thermo-hydro-mechanical model, a sensitivity analysis study is conducted to examine the effects of the geotechnical parameters and external conditions on the amount of frost heave and frost heaving rate. According to the results of the sensitivity analysis, initial void ratio significantly affects each objective as an individual parameter, whereas soil particle thermal conductivity and temperature gradient affect frost heave behaviour to a greater degree when applied simultaneously. The factors considered in this study are the main factors affecting the frost heaving amount and rate, which may be used to determine the frostbite sensitivity of a new sample.
