Determined Car Door Latch Injection Molding Process Conditions through the Finite Elements Analysis (유한요소 해석을 통한 차량용 도어 래치 사출성형 공정조건 결정)

  • Injection molding is a method for manufacturing many products, wherein a plasticized resin is injected into a mold at high pressure and hardened. According to the method, the product can be manufactured into various forms, and the mass production of up to tens of thousands of products is possible. The purpose of this study was to determine the process conditions for manufacturing a door latch for automobiles, through an analysis of the injection molding method. To calculate an appropriate injection flow for injection molding, a primary analysis for comparing the injection time, pressure, flow pattern, consolidation range, shear stress, shear rate, and weld line, as well as a secondary analysis for determining the conditions for stabilizing the molding temperature, holding pressure, and cooling process, were conducted. The characteristics of injection molding, and their influence on the product quality are discussed. No weld line and pores were observed on the products that had been manufactured based on the process conditions determined above. In addition, there were no flaws regarding the deformation compared to the prototype. Therefore, the manufacture of a product under the conditions determined in this study can reduce the defect rate compared to the existing production, and the process is also more competitive due to reduced production time.

Thermotropic Liquid Crystalline Behavior of Poly[1-{4-(4'-nitrophenylazo)phenoxycarbonylalkanoyloxy}ethylene]s (폴리[1-{4-(4'-니트로페닐아조)페녹시카보닐알카노일옥시}에틸렌]들의 열방성 액정 거동)

  • The thermotropic liquid crystalline behavior of a homologous series of poly[1-{4-(4' nitrophenylazo) phenoxycarbonylalkanoyloxy}ethylene]s (NAPEn, n = $2{\sim}8$,10, the number of methylene units in the spacer) have been investigated. All of the homologues formed monotropic nematic phases. The glass transition temperatures decreased with n. This is attributed to a plasticization of the backbone by the side chains. The isotropic-nematic phase transition temperatures decreased with increasing n up to 7 and showed the odd-even effect. However it became almost constant when n is more than 7. This behavior was rationalized in terms of the change in the average shape of the side chain on varing the parity of the spacer. This rationalization also accounts for the observed variation of the entropic gain for the clearing transition. The mesophase properties of NAPEn were entirely different from those reported for the polymers in which the azobenzene groups are attached to polyacrylate, polymathacrylate, and polystyrene backbones through polymethylene spacers. The results indicate that the mode of chemical linkage of the side group with the main chain plays an important role in the formation, stabilization, and type of mesophase.

Densification Behaviors of Mullite with Addition of Feldspar Formed by Pressureless Powder Packing Forming Method (무가압분말충전성형법에 의해 제조된 뮬라이트 성형체의 장석 첨가량에 따른 치밀화 거동)

  • Dang-Chin feldspar powder with the mean particle size of 9.1 $\mu\textrm{m}$ was added to the synthesized mullite powder with the particle size of +325∼-200 mesh and the powder compact was prepared by PLPP(pressureless powder packing method). Densification behaviors were observed in sintering temperature range of 1200∼1400$^{\circ}C$. The binder solution of 4% PVA was infilterated into packed powder to the suitable strength. The PLPP method makes it possible to form compacts without clay as plasticizer. Therfore there was no defect caused by phase transition after sintering. Additionally, we observed the dense microstructure by the melting of feldspar. When the mullite compacts with feldspar of 30% were sintered at 1300$^{\circ}C$-4 hrs, we obtained the dense microstructure with zero water absorption and porosity <1%. When these compacts were sintered longer than 4 hrs at 1300$^{\circ}C$ or higher than 1400$^{\circ}C$, the examggerated grain growth of mullite was observed.

Influence of Cutting Frequency on Yield and Growth Response of Grasses and Legumes in Germany (초지에서 예취회수의 경감이 수량 및 식생에 미치는 영향)

  • Field experiment was conducted from 1991 to 1993 at $Allg\ddot{a}u$ south western Germany to determine the effects of cutting frequencies on the yield and growth responses in intensively used grassland. Cutting frequency, 3 cutting(reduced) and 6 cutting(conventional) were tested. The yield, protein content, in vitro digestible dry matter and net energy value were markedly reduced with 3 cutting. Distribution ratio of grasses and legumes was not different between 3 and 6 cutting frequencies. However, the distribution of Dactylis glomerta at 3 cutting frequency was increased and that of Lolium perenne decreased. Nitrogen uptake by the plants at 6 cutting frequency was higher, 443kg/ha, than 308kg/ha of 3 cutting frequency.

Corn-Based Forage Cropping Systems in Rice Black-Streaked Dwarf Virus Prevalent Area (흑조위축병이 심한 남부지방에서 옥수수를 중심으로 한 사료작물 작부체계)

  • Forage productivity of cropping systems of rye - silage corn, silage corn - oats, silage corn - rape was studied in the south-eastern part of Korea where rice black-streaked dwarf virus(RBSDV) infection of corn are severe. Rye(cv. Paldanghomil) was planted on Oct. 20 of 1986 and harvested 10 times from April 5 to May 5 at the 5-day intervals in 1987, corn (cv. Suweon 19 and Jinjuok) was planted 5 times from April 5 to May 15 at the 10-day intervals in 1987, and oats(cv. Megwiri) and rape (cv. Velox) were planted 4 times from Sept: 4 to 25 at the 7-day intervals and harvested 4 times from Nov. 10 to Dec. 10 at the 10-day intervals in 1987. Considering yield, nutrition value, and in vitro dry matter digestibility (IVDMD), forage productivity of the cropping systems was compared. As harvesting time of rye delayed, plant height, dry matter(DM) yield, percent DM, crude fiber, and digestible DM yield increased, but crude protein, crude fat, and IVDMD decreased. However, nitrogen free extract was not different among the harvesting dates. As planting date of corn delayed, RBSDV infection rate increased. but DM yield of silage decreased. However, silage yield of Jinjuok was higher, but RBSDV infection rate was lower compared with Suweon 19 at all planting dates. DM yield of oats and rape decreased as planting date delayed. However, at Sept. 4 and 11 plantings yield of oats on Nov. 10 was much lower than that of rape, but the differences in yield between two crops decreased with delayed harvesting, and yield was similar on Dec. 10. A cropping system harvesting rye around April 20 and followed by planting corn in late April was best among the rye-corn systems considering yield and nutrition value of both crops. However, among the corn-oats or corn-rape cropping systems early April planting of corn and followed by early Sept. planting of oats or rape showed best results with similar yield potential of the best rye-corn cropping system.

Studies on Genetic Toxicity of Epoxidized Soy Bean Oil (에폭시화 대두유의 유전독성 연구)

  • EpoxidiBed soy bean oil (ESBO) is a plasticizer of PVC which is being widely used as a gaskets for the lid of glass jars including baby food. Using reverse mutation assay, chromosome aberration test and micronucleus test, ESBO were evaluated the mutagenicity. In the reverse mutation test, ESBO did not induced mutagenicity in Salmonella typhimurium TA98, TA100, TA1535, TA1537, TA102 with and without metabolic activation. In the chromosome aberration test using CHL cells, the results showed no increased structural and numerical aberrations in the concentration of sample producing cytotoxicity with and without metabolic activation. The in vivo induction of micronuclei was measured in polychromatic erythrocytes of bone marrow of young (3weeks old) and adult (6 weeks old) ddY mice of both sex. At 24 hours after treatment with ESBO 20, 10, 5, 2.5 g/B.W. kg/corn oil 10 ml by oral route animals were sacrificed and bone marrow cells were prepared for smear slides. The results showed no increased micronucleated polychromatic erythrocytes regardless of sex and age. It was concluded that water soluble ESBO did not show certain genotoxicity within our studies conducted.

Pervaporation Separation of Ethanol Aqueous Solution through Carbonate-type Polyurethane Membrane III. The Effect of Zwitterionic Group (카보네이트형 폴리우레탄막을 이용한 에탄올 수용액의 투과증발분리 III. 양쪽이온성기에 의한 영향)

  • NCO-terminated prepolymers were synthesized by reacting carbonate-type polyol(PTMCG)($M_w=1,000$ and 2,000) with MDI and N-methyldiethanolamine, as a chain extender. Carbonate-type polyurethane containg zwitterionic group was prepared by reacting the prepolymer with 1,3-propane sultone. From the IR and NMR spectra of model reactions, it was known that the ionization occurred under the same condition. The structure of zwitterionic carbonate-type polyurethane(ZPU) therefore could be confirmed from the model reactions. Glass transition temperature(Tg) ranged between $-15{\sim}-30^{\circ}C$ from the thermal data. Tg was between $-15{\sim}-18^{\circ}C$ for a series of ZPU10 samples and between $-25{\sim}-26^{\circ}C$ for a series of ZPU20 polymers. Tensile strength increased with mole ratio of ionic content. On the contrary, elongation was rather dropped with mole ratio of ionic content. ZPU10-30 having better tensile strength and less elongation was selected as a membrane for the concentration of ethanol aqueous solution through pervaporation. To obtain the better selectivity, it was crosslinked with HMDI. In the swelling test, it showed the higher swelling degree at around 50wt% ethanol concentration due to the plastization effect of ethanol. To optimize the separation capacity, two operating factors-feed concentration and temperature-were considered. The overall separation capacity was as follows : separation factor, 2~83.2 ; the flux, $25.4{\sim}58.8g/m^2hr$.

Effects of Phthalate/Adipate Esters Exposure during Perinatal Period on Reproductive Function after Maturation in Rats (성숙한 랫트의 번식 기능에 있어 프탈레이트/아디페이트 에스테르의 주산기 노출의 영향)

  • Phthalate esters that are used as plasticizers and also found at low levels in foods such as dairy products are often mentioned as suspected endocrine disrupters. The purpose of the present study is to elucidate whether perinatal exposure to di-n-butyl phthalate(DBP), diisononyl phthalate (DINP) and di-2-ethylhexyl adipate (DEHA) affects several aspects of reproductive function in rats especially sexual differentiation of the brain. To this end, the dams were provided with pulverized soy-free diet containing 20, 200, 2,000 and 10,000 ppm of DBP, 40, 400, 4,000 and 20,000 ppm of DINP, or 480, 2,400 and 12,000 ppm of DEHA from gestational day (GD) 15 to postnatal day (PDN) 21, the day of weaning, and serum sex steroid hormone, gonadotropin levels and sexual behaviors after maturation were assessed. At Postnatal week (PNW) 20-21, serum levels of sex steroids and gonadotropins in both male and female rats, as well as estrous cyclicity in females, were not changed by perinatal exposure to DBP, DINP and DEHA, indicating that these chemicals did not affect sexual differentiation of the brain controlling the endocrine system of hypothalamo-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis. On the other hand, inhibitory influences on sexual behaviors, especially on ejaculation in males and lordosis in females, were observed by perinatal exposure to these chemicals. These results suggest that these chemicals may act directly on discrete regions of the hypothalamus regulating sexual behaviors, but not regulating gonadotropin secretion, thereby affect sexual differentiation of the brain with a resultant decrease in sex-specific behaviors in adulthood.

Vitrification of Highly Active Liquid Waste(II) (The thermal decomposition of HARVEST feed slurries and the characterization of the product)

  • The thermal decomposition of simulated Magnox highly active waste and of HARVEST feed slurries (SW and SG) which include tile glass forming chemicals has been studied. The waste and the slurries are almost completely calcined by 500-55$0^{\circ}C$. The colour of the solids from the slurries varies little until about 90$0^{\circ}C$ when it darkens considerably. The slurries begin to vitrify at this temperature and are completely vitrified at 1000-105$0^{\circ}C$. On the other hand. the sulphate impurity in SN slurry causes a yellow phase to separate above 75$0^{\circ}C$. The density of the intermediate solids is fairly low until 650$^{\circ}$-$700^{\circ}C$ is reached. This temperature seems to mark the onset of fluxing as tile density rises quickly to 2g/㎤ at 700$^{\circ}$ -80$0^{\circ}C$. The strengh of the solids decreases with temperature up to 50$0^{\circ}C$, and then rises as the solids begin to sinter. Below 50$0^{\circ}C$ the SN solids are the stronger. suggesting that the impurity renders this silica more reactive.

  • As awareness of environmental issues continues to grow, there is an escalating demand for recycling and repurposing byproducts of agricultural and food production processes and their conversion to high-value products. Coffee is the most widely consumed beverage globally; during coffee beverage processing and consumption, byproducts such as coffee silverskin (CS), spent coffee grounds (SCGs), and oil are generated. Despite containing beneficial materials such as cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin, lipids, and bioactive substances, these byproducts are typically discarded in landfills or incinerated. The utilization of CS, SCGs, and oil in the development of packaging materials holds significant potentials toward the realization of a sustainable society. To this end, considerable research efforts have been dedicated to the development of high-value materials derived from coffee byproducts, including functional fillers, polymer composites, and biodegradable polymers. Notably, CS and SCGs have been employed as functional fillers in polymer composites. Additionally, lipids extracted from SCGs have been used as plasticizers for polymers and cultured with microorganisms to produce biodegradable polymers. This review focuses on the research and development of polymer/CS and polymer/SCG composites as well as cellulose extraction and utilization from CS and SCGs and its applications, oil extraction from SCGs, and cultivation with microorganisms using extracted oil for polyhydroxyalkanoates(PHA) production.
