  • In precision wire electrode discharge machining by CAD/CAM, it is the most important problem on machining method to determine the wire electrode offset amout from the accurate calculation of discharge gap in order to increase the machining accuracy, after fixing the main machining conditions such as machining speed, wire tension, coolant conductivity, gap vlotage. The present study shows the relationships between discharge gap and main machining conditions by means of a series of experiment concerned with the gap using the workpiece of STD 11, and suggests the experimental eguation to calculate the accurate wire electrode offset amount under the given machining conditions for spot workers.

  • Formed insert type tool satisfy both the surface roughness and geometric accuracy, so that cutting edge of formed tool can duplicate final feature. For experiment the formed tools with various clearance angles are machined. And the tools are evaluated with respect cutting force, flank rear and surface roughness to optimistic condition.

  • The objective of this research is to investigate the effect of clearance angle on cutting performance in high speed end milling operation. The tool geometry parameters have complex relationship with cutting process parameter. In order to explain the effect of clearance angle, 2D turning operation in lathe and end milling operations are performed. Tools with different clearance angles are manufactured. Cutting forces, machining accuracy and tool life are examined according to the change of clearance angle. As clearance angle increases, cutting force decreases and machining accuracy improves. But it has been proved that there exists the optimal clearance angle according to the diameter of end mill for maximum tool life which is measured by frank wear.

  • The objective of this research is to investigate the effect of clearance angle on cutting performance in high speed endmilling. The tool geometry parameters and cutting process have complex relationship. In order to explain the effect of clearance angle and exist the optimal clearance angle according to the diameter, Using various tool with different clearance angle, numerous cutting tests (cutting force, surface accuracy, too life) was undertaken to show the relationship between clearance angle and cutting process.

  • In wire discharge machining which is using STD 11 as die materials, the major factors of machining speed are discharge voltage, discharge current, and discharge time. All of the three factors give the effect. Increasing of the discharge pulse time gets groove width wider and it relatively increases surface roughness and clearance. If no load voltage is decreased, surface roughness is good but it decreases machining speed. If on time is increased, machining speed will get faster and clearance and offset value also get bigger.

  • 본 연구에서는 3차원 솔리드 모델러로부터 Modeling한 후 제작된 model 에 사용자가 원하는 측정 위치를 지정함으로써 자동적으로 측정용 NC Data를 얻을 수 있는 알고리즘을 설계하고 이를 Program화하였다. 3-D Modeler로서 Unigraphics를 사용하였으며, 공작기계는 FANUC Controller를 장착한 Machining Center이다. 측정용 센서는 접촉식 Probe를 사용하였다. 본 연구를 통하여 CAD시스템에서 구축된 Geomaatric Model로부터 직접 측정을 위한 NC data를 얻고 이 data를 가공후의 측정 Data와 비교하여 봄으로써 제품의 가공정밀도를 확인해 볼 수 있으며, 가공시의 간섭 check, 잔삭가공여유, 과절삭등 다양한 정보를 얻을 수 있을 것이다. 향수 지속적인 연구개발을 통하여 data의 통계처리 및 공작기계의 오차 보정등을 고려하여 줌으로써 기계상에서의 측정 data에 대한 신뢰도를 구축할 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

Comparison of the Surface Roughness according to the Workpiece Materials of Turning Operations (선삭가공의 피삭재에 따른 표면거칠기의 비교 분석)

  • The turning clearance angle changes the machining characteristics. In this study, three workpiece materials, machine structural carbon steel, chrome-molybdenum steel and stainless steel, were examined. The experiments revealed how the features of selected materials changed when they were processed with machining operation. To find the surface roughness of workpiece materials, the workpiece materials, which have a higher tensile strength, showed a much better surface roughness in the surface roughness tester. Moreover, the process feed rate was compared between 0.07 mm/rev and 0.10 mm/rev. When the process feed rate was 0.07 mm/rev, the surface roughness has superior results without reference to the quality of the materials. According to this research on the turning clearance angle, the best roughness value was observed when the quality of the materials were $0.9^{\circ}$, whereas the worst roughness was observed when quality of the materials was $0.3^{\circ}$.
