  • The deformation behavior of copper during equal channel angular pressing(ECAP) was calculated using a three-dimensional version of a constitutive model based on the dislocation density evolution. Finite element simulations of the variation of the dislocation density and the dislocation cell size with the number of ECAP passes are reported. The calculated stress, strain and cell size are compared with the experimental data for Cu deformed by ECAP in a modified Route C regime. The results of FEM analysis were found to be in good agreement with the experiments. After a rapid initial decrease down to about 200nm in the first ECAP pass, the average cell size was found to change little with further passes. Similarly, the strength increased steeply after the first pass, but tended to saturate with further pressings. The FEM simulations also showed strain non-uniformities and the dependence of the resulting strength on the location within the workpiece.

  • A new finite element model for the hydrostatic extrusion of a biaxial bar is introduced. In this model, a penalty contact algorithm, which is adopted to replace the traction boundary conditions due to the fluid in the container of the extruder, is incorporated into a consistent penalty finite element formulation for the viscoplastic deformation of a work piece during hydrostatic extrusion. Two parameters, introduced in the penalty contact algorithm in this study, a critical penalty contact pressure $P_0$ and a critical penalty contact distance $D_c$, are carefully examined for various process conditions. The proposed finite element model is applied to the hydrostatic extrusion of a Cu-clad Al bar. The extrusion loads and thickness ratios of the clad materials by the proposed model are compared in detail to values from experiments reported in the literature. Finally, it is concluded that the proposed finite element model is useful in practical implementations.

  • Tire's performance plays important roles in improving vehicle's performances. Tire makers carry out a lot of research to improve tire's performance. They are making effort to meet multi purposes using various optimization methods. Recently, the tire makers perform the shape optimization using approximation models, which are surrogate models obtained by statistical method. Generally, the reason why we increase sampling points during optimization process, is to get more reliable approximation models, but the more we adopt sampling points, the more we need time to test. So it is important to select approximation model and proper number of sampling points to balance between reliability and time consuming. In this research, we studied to compare two kind cases for a approximation construction. First, we compare RSM and Kriging which are Curve Fitting Method and Interpolation Method, respectively. Second, we construct approximation models using three different number of sampling points. And then, we recommend proper approximation model and orthogonal array adopt tire's design optimization.

  • Roll-to-roll printing technology has lately become a subject of special interests in the field of printed electronics. Since this technology has the advantage that continuous and mass production is possible. And for high precision register control is required in multi-layer printing to produce the electronic devices, this is one of the most important technologies in roll-to-roll printing technology. Register error could be generated by various reasons like eccentricity of roll and thermal deformation due to temperature variation in drying section. In this study, the effect of tension variation on the register was analyzed. The results of these analyses show that it is essential to consider the tension disturbance which is generated by the change of temperature in drying section, and conventional register model has limitation to estimate the register error. In order to overcome the limitation of the register model, advanced register model based on the SI process was developed. Also, the performance of the developed model was verified experimentally.

  • Ceramic plates containing many micro-holes are used in diverse applications such as MCP (Microchannel Plate). catalytic converters, filters, electrical insulators in integrated circuits, and so on. One of the efficient methods for machining many holes in ceramic plates is wet drilling of ceramic green bodies followed by sintering them. Since the strength of ceramic green bodies is much lower than the strength of sintered ceramic plate, ceramic green bodies can be drilled with high feed rate. The axial force during micro-drilling of ceramic green bodies increases rapidly at high feed rate, which induces the crack in workpiece. Therefore, the tool lift of micro-drill with respect to feed rate may be determined by the predicting increase of axial force. In this work, the axial force during micro-drilling was calculated using the chip flow model on the micro-drill tip. from which the tool life of diamond abrasive micro-drill during micro-drilling of ceramic green bodies was calculated.

  • Recent experimental observations support the hypothesis that mechanical stimuli play a role in regulating the specialized molecular expression of articular cartilage in vitro and in vivo. Other studies have demonstrated that the continuous passive motion(CPM)bioreactor for whole joints can provide a platform for possible future in vitro studies and applications, including possible interactions of bio-mechanical and biochemical signals. In this study, we have developed acustom-made bioreactor capable of bending and stretching with circular type motion, and a biomimetic knee joint model, using a 3D printer. This system could be used to investigate the effects of rehabilitative joint motion of dynamic culture.

  • Recently, bioenergy research using microalgae, one of the most promising biofuel sources, has attracted much attention. Cell disruption, which can be classified as physical or chemical, is essential to extract functional ingredients from microalgae. In this study, we investigated the cell disruption efficiency of Chlorella sp. using low-frequency non-focused ultrasound (LFNFU). This is a continuously physical method that is superior to chemical methods with respect to environmental friendliness and low processing cost. A flat panel photobioreactor was employed to cultivate Chlorella sp. and its growth curve was fitted both with Logistic and Gompertz models. The temporal change in cell reduction by cell disruption using LFNFU was fitted with a Logistic model. The experimental conditions that were investigated were the initial concentration of microalgal cells, relative amplitude of output ultrasound waves, processing volume of microalgal cells, and initial pH value. The optimal conditions for the most efficient cell disruption were determined through the various tests.

  • The deformation mechanism of hexagonal close-packed materials is quite complicate including slips and twins. A deformation mechanism, which accounts for both slip and twinning, was investigated for polycrystalline hop materials. The model was developed in a finite element polycrystal model formulated with initial strain method where the stiffness matrix in FEM is based on the elastic modulus. We predicted numerically the texture of Mg alloy(AZ31B) sheet by using FEM based on crystal plasticity theory. Also, we introduced the recrystallized texture employed the maximum energy release theory after rolling. From the numerical study, it was clarified that the shrink twin could not be the main mechanism for shortening of c-axis, because the lattice rotation due to twin rejects fur c-axis to become parallel to ND(normal direction of plate). It was showed that the deformation texture with the pyramidal slip gives the ring type pole figure having hole in the center.

  • A full finite element (FE)-based approach is presented for the precision analysis of the strip profile in flat rolling. Basic FE models for the analysis of the mechanical behavior of the strip and of the rolls are described in detail. Also described is an iterative strategy for a rigorous treatment of the mechanical contact occurring at the roll-strip interface and at the roll-roll interface. Then, presented is an integrated FE process model for the coupled analysis of the mechanical behavior of the strip, work roll, and backup roll in four-high mill. A series of process simulation are conducted and the results are compared with the measurements made in hot and cold rolling experiments.

  • Developed the model equations which calculate roll force, roll power during hot rolling in real time. The variables which mainly effect on the roll force, roll power are shape factor, reduction, roll diameter, roll velocity, strip inlet temperature, carbon content of strip and strip-roll contact friction coefficient. Among these variables roll diameter, roll velocity, inlet temperature, carbon content and friction coefficient can be excluded in interpolated model equation by introducing equation of die force(F'), power(p') of the frictionless uniform plane strain compression which can be calculated without iteration. At the case of coulomb friction coefficient of 0.3, we evaluated coefficient of polynomial equations of {{{{ { F} over {F' } }}}}, {{{{ { Pf} over {Pd }, { Pd} over {P' } }}}} from the result of finite element analysis using interpolation. It was found that the change of values of {{{{ { F} over {F' }, { P} over {P' } }}}} with the friction coefficient tend to straight line which slope depend only on shape factor. With these properties, developed model equations could be extended to other values of coulomb friction coefficient. To verify developed roll force, roll power model equation we compared the results from these model equation with the results from these model equation with the results from finite element analysis in factory process condition.
