근사모델과 후처리를 이용한 트러스 구조물의 이산 치수설계 (Discrete Sizing Design of Truss Structure Using an Approximate Model and Post-Processing)

  • Structural optimization problems with discrete design variables require more function calculations (or finite element analyses) than those in the continuous design space. In this study, a method to find an optimal solution in the discrete design of the truss structure is presented, reducing the number of function calculations. Because a continuous optimal solution is the Karush-Kuhn-Tucker point that satisfies the optimality condition, it is assumed that the discrete optimal solution is around the continuous optimum. Then, response values such as weight, displacement, and stress are predicted using approximate models-referred to as hybrid metamodels-within specified design ranges. The discrete design method using the hybrid metamodels is used as a post-process of the continuous optimization process. Standard truss design problems of 10-bar, 25-bar, 15-bar, and 52-bar are solved to show the usefulness of this method. The results are compared with those of existing methods.

  • The objective of this study is to estimate and to compensate for the volumetric error of a machine tool. In this paper, the volumetric error is defined and error synthesis model is presented. Then, the volumetric error of workpiece is compared through the virtual machining and a new tool-path is generated to compensate for the error in the post-processor of CAM system using the error synthesis model. By this method, the error is compensated without modification or replacement of a machine tool being in use.

  • This paper presents the analytical and experimental methodology for the prediction of aerosol concentration and size distribution due to cutting fluid atomization mechanism in turnining operation. The established analytical model which is based on atomization theory analyzes the cutting fluid motion and aerosol generation in machining process. The impinging and evaporation experiments were performed to know the particle size and evaporation rate of cutting fluid. The predictive models can be used as a basis for environmental impact analysis on the shop floor. It can be also facilitate the optimization of cutting fluid usage in achieving a balanced consideration of productivity and environmental consciousness.

  • In this paper, an experimental study of hot forging process is carried out using plasticine. In order to manufacture the die set, Stere olithography Apparatus(SLA) which is most widely used rapid prototyping system is introduced. Turbine blade forging is executed using plasticine and the SLA prototype die set. Through the experiment ,it turned out that SLA prototype is suitable to the die set for the plasticine workpiece, and theformability and forming load of turbine blade forging are predicted.

  • Densification behavior of mixed copper and tool steel powder under cold compaction was investigated. By mixing the yield functions proposed by Fleck et al. and by Gurson for pure powder in terms of volume fractions and contact numbers of Cu powder new mixed yield functions were employed for densification of powder composites under cold compaction. The constitutive equations were implemented into a finite element program (ABAQUS) to compare with experimental data for densificatiojn of mixed powder under cold isostatic pressing and cold die compaction. finite element calculations by using the yield functions mixed by contact numbers of Cu powder agreed better with experimental data than those by volume fractions of Cu powder.

  • An expert drawbead model is developed to model a cranky drawbead in the finite element analysis of stamping processes. The expert model calculates the drawbead restraining forces (DBRF's) and bead-exit thinning, which are boundary conditions. DBRF's are calculated by considering bending force, unbending force, and friction force in order. Bead-exit thinning are due to the bending and tension during the deformation. The DBFR's and thinning computed form the mathematical model for the basic beads are compared with measurements and correction factors compensating for the differences are found using the multiple linear regression method. The composition beads are assumed to be a combination of basic beads so that the DBRF's and bead-exit thinning are computed to the sum of those of basic beads.

  • The mathematical set-up model was developed to reduce the mechanical property deviation in annealed and slightly rolled steel strip. The mechanical peculiarities of skin pass rolling process, such as high friction value and non-circular contact arc, low reduction and non-negligible entry and exit elastic zones as well as central restricted deformation zone are all taken into account. The deformation of work rolls is calculated with the influence function method and arbitrary contact arc shape is permitted. The strip deformation is modeled by slab method and the entry and exit elastic deformation zones are included. The strip restricted deformation zone near the neutral point is also considered. It was revealed that the new model has better accuracy than present regression model by statistical analysis with actual mill rolling data.

  • To carry out perfectly the forming analysis of the extruding products, it is necessary that the friction boundary condition between dies and blanks should be worked out the accuate numerical friction models. But the numerical friction models adapting in the conventional Extrusion forming software may be large different from the actual conditions. Expecially, the use of the existing extrusion forming software is possible only in the limitted range owing to the unaccuracy of the high speed forming work. Therefore, tile prepare of this study is to develop the numerical friction model which describes the friction boundary condition mathematically well, to improve the accuracy of the extrusion farming analysis, and finally to expand the applying areas of the results.

  • An, FE-based, on-line model is presented for the rapid and precise prediction of roll thermal profile in hot strip rolling. The validity of the model is demonstrated through comparison with FE-based off-line model which was verified by measurements. Also demonstrated is its capability of reflecting the effect of diverse process variables.

  • Investigated via a series of finite-element(FE) process simulation is the effect of diverse process variables on some selected non-dimensional parameters characterizing the thermo-mechanical behavior of the roll and strip in hot strip rolling. Then, on the basis of these parameters, on-line models are derived for the precise prediction of the temperature changes occurring in the bite zones as well as in the inter-stand zones in a finishing mill. The prediction accuracy of the proposed models is examined through comparison with predictions from a FE process model.
