  • The purpose of this study is to investigate factors related to substance use focusing on the sexual experiences and risky sexual behaviors among Korean adolescents. This study conducted with a secondary data analysis using the Seventh Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey 2011 in South Korea. The study participants selected 75,643 Korean adolescents who were recruited anonymously through national web-based survey. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, rao-Scott ${\chi}^2$, and logistic regressions considering complex samples. Results indicated that substance use was significantly associated with sexual experiences such as sexual intercourse with the opposite sex (adjusted OR=5.691; 95% CI=4.223-7.670), sexual intercourse with the same sex (adjusted OR=21.180; 95% CI=14.704-30.507) and risky sexual behaviors such as sexual assaults (adjusted OR=9.936; 95% CI=7.217-13.680), date rape (adjusted OR=16.979; 95% CI=11.648-24.751), sexual intercourse after drinking (adjusted OR=6.564; 95% CI=3.986-10.810), unexpected pregnancies (adjusted OR=18.628; 95% CI=8.476-40.936), and sexually transmitted diseases (adjusted OR=21.872; 95% CI=13.920-34.367) in Korean adolescents. Findings of this study show that adolescents who use substances are more likely to engage in risky sexual behaviors. Therefore, intervention program should be designed to consider both substance use and sexual problems and to include the effective approaches at the family and school level.

  • This study was conducted as a descriptive study with the aim of identifying the effects of clinical nurses' resilience and social problem solving abilities on burnout. Data collection for the study was carried out between May $30^{th}$ and June $19^{th}$, 2013 by surveying 192 clinical nurses working in university medical centers and general hospitals located in D city. Measures were subjects' resiliency, social problem solving abilities, and burnout. For the analysis of the data, the statistical methods of frequency, mean and standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple regression analysis were employed. When the category of burnout was analyzed by general features, placement in a desired department and size of hospital, there were significant differences. Burnout correlated negatively with resilience and social problem solving abilities. Factors affecting clinical nurses' burnout were identified in the order of resilience, size of hospital, social problem solving abilities, and placement in a desired department and the explanatory power was 43.1%. The findings of the study indicate that in order to decrease clinical nurses' burnout, their resilience and social problem solving abilities have to be enhanced.

  • This study examined one of the contemporary issues on debate to identify any significant financial determinants on the cash holdings of the cheabol firms in the Korean domestic capital markets. Several important findings on the financial characteristics affecting the cash holdings were evidenced by utilizing various methodologies for statistical estimations. Financial or managerial implications with discussion were provided for the pronounced factors such as CASHFLOW, MVBV, REINVEST, and AGENCY. Assuming that the chaebol firms were overall subject to the financial constrains, they may increase or stockpile cash reserves as internal capital for future investment opportunities or repayment of existing debt, rather than external financing burdened by a high cost of capital. Given the on-going controversy on the optimal level of corporate cash holdings coupled with any foreseeable capital transfer among the associated nations through the investment vehicles such the FTAs (Free Trade Agreements) or TPP (Trans-Pacific Pacts), any empirical findings of the study may shed new light on identifying financial determinants which may significantly affect the level of cash holdings for the business conglomerates, the 'chaebol' firms, in the Korean capital markets.

  • While relatively many researches have been performed on the legal issues of leverage buyout(LBO) in the Korean capital market, the on-going 'interdisciplinary studies' between the legal and the financial aspects of LBO financing structure seems to be relatively few so far. In this particular study, the concept and major financing structures on LBO have been discussed, by which domestic investors including institutional investors, may acquire in-depth knowledge on the issue given the dynamically changing circumstances surrounding the Korean domestic capital market. Moreover, legal analyses related to the conventional case studies on two types of LBO structures such as 'asset-backed LBO' and 'merger-related LBO', have been illustrated, coupled with the review of the previous literature on mergers & acquisitions(M&A) related to the financial aspects of LBO financing structure. From the director's perspective, who is employed by an acquired firm, legal issues in terms of 'fiduciary duty' and 'duty of loyalty' have been discussed, along with the logical scope of 'business judgement principle' in terms of modern finance theory.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between nurse's perception of organizational characteristics including safety climate and work environment and barrier to medication error reporting. Methods: We surveyed 334 nurses from 7 hospitals. An assessment survey was consisted of modified safety climate scale, practice environment scale and barrier to medication error reporting. The data were collected from September 2012. Descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficient, canonical correlation were used. Results: Organizational characteristics were related to barrier to medication error reporting with three significant canonical variables. The first canonical correlation coefficient was .50(Wilks' ${\lambda}$=0.61, df=32, p<.001), that of the second was .35(Wilks' ${\lambda}$=0.81, df=21, p<.001) and that of the third was .22(Wilks' ${\lambda}$=0.93, df=12, p=.018). The first variate indicated higher perception of safety climate variables and work environment variables were related lower barrier to medication error reporting variables except fear for error reporting. The second variate showed higher perception of 'safety climate between healthcare provider' and higher 'nurse participation in hospital affairs' and 'staffing and resource adequacy' were related to lower 'fear' and 'administrative response' in barrier to medication error reporting variables. Conclusion: Strategies for barrier to medication error reporting and improvement of organizational characteristics including safety climate and work environment should be implemented.
