Differential Dyeing Technology in Wool (양모의 이색효과 염색방법)

  • Differential dyeing technologies for wool are discussed in one bath dyeing of cationic compound treated wool and untreated wool. By increasing the concentration of cationic compound to wool the k/s value of wool and the color difference (ΔE) between treated and untreated one become higher in one bath dyeing. The proper concentration of cationic compound to wool was 2% in one bath dyeing since the dyeing fastness became lower according to the increase of the concentration.

Effect of Water Extract of Gardenia jasminoides on the Sensory Quality and Putrefactive Microorganism of Cooked Rice (치자 추출물이 쌀밥의 관능적 특성 및 부패미생물에 미치는 효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of water extract of Gardenia jasminoides (WEGJ) on the sensory qualities, color value and shelf-life characteristics (pH, total no. of Bacillus and TBA value) of cooked rice. The total color difference(ΔE) was increased when WEGJ was added. The sensory dualities of cooked rice added with WEGJ had no significant difference in color, taste and torture compared with control group. The pH value of cooked rice addeded with 250 ppm and 500 ppm of WEGJ was less declined compared with control group. WEGJ at the concentration of 250 ppm and 500 ppm had an antimicrobial activity and WEGJ at 500ppm showed an antioxidant activity in cooked rice.

A Study on the Dyeing Properties of Silk Fabrics Dyed with Impatiens balsamina extract (봉선화 추출액을 이용한 견직물 염색)

  • To study the dyeability(ΔE value) and color depth of silk fabrics dyed with Impatiens balsamina extracts. its flower, leaf and stem was extracted by water. This paper investigated some experiments under the various dyeing conditions such as dyeing temperature, dyeing time, repetition of dyeing, dyeing pH with silk fabrics dyed with Impatiens balsamina extracts. The results obtained were as follows 1. It was found that $\lambda_{max}$ of silk fabrics dyed with Impatiens balsamina extract was 260nm and its flower, leaf , stem and different colored flower(white, pint violet) had same $\lambda_{max}$ at 260nm. 2. $\Delta{E}$ values were increased when dyeing temperature, repetition of dyeing and time was higher, value of munsell of silk fabrics dyed with Impatiens balsamina extract was Yellow-Red. But dyeing temperature, repetition of dyeing and time was higher, shifted to longer wavelenth side. 3. Silk fabric dyed with Impatiens balsamina extracts at acidic pH was colored reddish Yellow-Red, alkali bath colored yellowish Yellow-Red in silk fabrics dyed with Impatiens balsamina extract.

Diagnostic Ability of High-definition Imaging Using Ultraslim Endoscopes in Early Gastric Cancer

  • Purpose: It is unclear whether high-definition (HD) imaging improves visibility and diagnostic ability in early gastric cancer (EGC) compared with standard-definition (SD) imaging. We aimed to compare the diagnostic performance and visibility scores of HD and SD ultraslim endoscopes in EGC. Materials and Methods: We used HD and SD ultraslim endoscopes to obtain 60 images with similar compositions of gastric environments. Of the 60 images, 30 showed EGC (15 images for each modality) and 30 showed no EGC (15 images for each modality). Seventeen endoscopists evaluated the presence and location of the lesions in each image. Diagnostic ability was compared between modalities. The color difference between a lesion and the surrounding mucosa (ΔE) was measured and compared between the modalities. Results: The ability of HD to detect EGC was significantly higher than that of SD (accuracy: 80.8% vs. 71.6%, P=0.017; sensitivity: 94.9% vs. 76.5%, P<0.001; positive predictive value, 76.2% vs. 55.3%, P<0.001; and negative predictive value (NPV), 94.1% vs. 73.5%, P<0.001). The ability of HD to determine the horizontal extent of EGC was significantly higher than that of SD (accuracy: 71.0% vs. 57.8%, P=0.004; sensitivity: 75.3% vs. 49.0%, P<0.001; NPV, 72.9% vs. 55.9%, P<0.001; and area under the curve: 0.891 vs. 0.631, P=0.038). The mean ΔE was significantly higher for HD than for SD (10.3 vs. 5.9, P=0.011). Conclusions: The HD ultraslim endoscope showed a higher diagnostic performance in EGC than the SD endoscope because it provided good color contrast.

Laser Resurfacing after Facial Free Flap Reconstruction

  • Background and Objectives Skin and soft tissue defects can be treated according to a range of strategies, such as local flap, skin graft, biological dressing, or free flap. On the other hand, free tissue transfer usually leaves a distinct scar with an inconsistency of color or hypertrophy. This problem is highlighted if the defect is located on the face, which could have devastating effects on a patient's psychosocial health. Materials and Methods The authors used an erbium : yttrium-aluminum-garnet (Er:YAG) laser to resurface the free flap skin and match the color with the surrounding facial skin. This study evaluated the effectiveness of laser skin resurfacing on the harmonious color matching of transferred flap. Patients who had undergone laser resurfacing on facial flap skin between January 2014 and December 2018 were reviewed retrospectively. An ablative 2,940-nm fractional Er:YAG laser treatment was delivered to the entire flap skin at 21 J/cm2 with the treatment end-point of pinpoint bleeding. Several months later, the clinical photographs were analyzed. The L*a*b* color co-ordinates of both the flap and surrounding normal skin were measured using Adobe Photoshop. The L*a*b* color difference (ΔE) for the scar and normal surrounding skin were calculated using the following equation: ${\Delta}E=\sqrt{({\Delta}L)^2+({\Delta}a)^2+({\Delta}b)^2}$ Results All five patients were satisfied with the more natural appearance of the flaps. The ΔE values decreased significantly from the pre-treatment mean value of 19.64 to the post-treatment mean value of 11.39 (Wilcoxon signed-rank test, p = 0.043). Conclusion Ablative laser resurfacing can improve the aesthetic outcome of free tissue transfer on the face.

Texture characteristics of Angdo Pyun as affected by ingredients (재료배합비에 따른 앵도편의 Texture 특성)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of the properties of sugar (20%, 30%) and starch (l5%, 20%, 25%) to Angdo on Angdo Pyun's preference, texture and color_ Textural characteristics were examined through sensory evaluation, Rheometer. Color test by Color and color difference meter. The properties through sensory evaluation were appearance, color, flavor, hardness, thickness and acceptability. With Rheometer, compression force, work ratio, adhesive work and gumminess were measured. With Color and Color difference meter, L, a ana b were measured. The results were as follows: 1. Sensory evaluation indicated that with the increase of starch addition, the Angdo Pyun maintained a worse apperance and got hardened and thickened. As the amount of suger increased, the Angdo fyun maintained better in color and flavor as well as its acceptability. 2. Rheometer measurement indicated that a compression force, work ratio, adhesive work and gumminess tended to increase, as the starch proportion increased. As the amount of sugar increased, the Angdo Pyun maintained a greater adhesive work, work ratio and gumminess. 3. Color and Color difference meter indicated that figure L ana a tended to increase and b, ΔE and ΔC decrease, as the starch proportion increased. 4. In the analysis of correlation between hardness and compression force, it was found that they are highly related. In view of the above results, it came to the conclusion that Angdo Pyun with the addition of 30% sugar and 15% starch could give the best result among the groups studied.

Changes in Chemical Components of Red Ginseng Processed from the Fresh Ginseng Stored at Low Temperature (저온저장 후 제조한 홍삼의 성분변화)

  • The six-year old fresh ginseng harvested at earlier October was stored for 10 weeks in the rendition of 4$^{\circ}C$${\pm}$1$^{\circ}C$ and RH 87∼92%, and the sugar content and the change of color was investigated in an interval of one week by taking sample of it after processed it to red ginseng. The total sugar content was 62.71% before it was stored and was a little reduced to 54.58% after 10 weeks of storage. The reducing sugar content was 11.69% before it was stored and was a little reduced to 9.92% after 7 weeks of storage. For the free sugars, the content of fructose was 0.47% before storage and gradually increased to 4.70% after 10 weeks of storage, and the contents of glucose and sucrose were gradually decreased after they have their peak value of 2.31% and 25.89% at five and three weeks of storage. The content of maltose was 6.62% before storage and it gradually reduced to 1.37% after 10 weeks of storage. The color intensity was generally increased with the storage time, and the total rotor value(ΔE) has its peak value of 8.89 after 9 weeks of storage. For the browning pigment, the absorbance of 420nm and 440nm was increased after 6 weeks of storage. The similar trend was observed at 285nm where the precursor of browning pigment was investigated, however, the change was not observed for the freeze dryed ginseng.

Impact of combined at-home bleaching and whitening toothpaste use on the surface and color of a composite resin

  • Objective: This in vitro study aimed to evaluate the effects of different whitening toothpastes on a composite resin during at-home bleaching with 10% carbamide peroxide. Materials and Methods: Sixty samples (7 mm × 2 mm) were used for color and roughness analyses, while another 60 samples (3 mm × 2 mm) were utilized to assess microhardness. The factors analyzed included toothpaste, for which 5 options with varying active agents were tested (distilled water; conventional toothpaste; whitening toothpaste with abrasive agents; whitening toothpaste with abrasive and chemical agents; and whitening toothpaste with abrasive, chemical, and bleaching agents). Brushing and application of whitening gel were performed for 14 days. Surface microhardness (SMH), surface roughness (Ra), and color (ΔL*, Δa*, Δb, ΔE*ab, and ΔE00) were analyzed. The Ra and SMH data were analyzed using mixed generalized linear models for repeated measures, while the color results were assessed using the Kruskal-Wallis and Dunn tests. Results: Between the initial and final time points, all groups demonstrated significant increases in Ra and reductions in SMH. No significant differences were found between groups for SMH at the final time point, at which all groups differed from the distilled water group. Conventional toothpaste exhibited the lowest Ra, while whitening toothpaste with abrasive agent had the highest value. No significant differences were observed in ΔL*, Δa*, and Δb. Conclusions: While toothpaste composition did not affect the color stability and microhardness of resin composite, combining toothbrushing with whitening toothpaste and at-home bleaching enhanced the change in Ra.

The Dyeing Properties of Mugwort(Artemisia princeps) Extract using Nano-cellulose (나노셀룰로스를 활용한 쑥 추출물의 염색성)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the dyeing properties of mugwort extract by nano-cellulose(n-cell). When dyeing cotton, rayon(artificial silk, called Ingyeon) and silk with mugwort extract, the difference with and without 2 wt% n-cell which it diluted to 0.6% treatment was compared. It was found that the addition of n-cell changed the values of L, -a(+red ~ -green), and b(+yellow ~ -blue) of all scoured cotton, rayon and silk fabrics, compared to dyeing only mugwort extract. Furthermore, it was confirmed that the ΔE and the K/S value slightly increased in all of the dyed cotton, rayon, and silk fabrics treated with n-cell at the same time as dyeing compared to the untreated ones. Therefore, by treating the fabric with n-cell, a natural cellulose component, at the same time as dyeing, it is expected to maintain stable fastness, which is a disadvantage of dyeing using natural dyes, and contribute to the utilization and commercialization of other natural dyes.

The Dyeing Properties and Antibacterial Function of Perilla frutescens var. acuta Extract on Cotton (차조기 추출물의 면직물에 대한 염색성과 항균기능성 평가)

  • This study investigated the proper dyeing conditions, fastness and functionality of cotton fabrics dyed with Perilla frutescens var. acuta extract. Repeat dyeing, combination dyeing of persimmon juice and fermentation dyeing were conducted as dyeing conditions. It was confirmed that the ΔE and the K/S value of cotton fabrics dyed with Perilla frutescens var. acuta extracts depending on repeat dyeing and combination dyeing slightly increased. Furthermore, the fastness to washing of persimmon combination dyeing and fermentation dyeing was very good. The fastness to rubbing was shown to be above grade 4 in all methods, and the fastness to light was not as good as grade 3 or lower. The persimmon juice dyeing, Perilla frutescens var. acuta extract repeat dyeing 4 times and combination fermentation dyeing showed very good antimicrobial abilities. Thereafter, additional studies are needed to improve the fastness to light and alternatives to further improve the dyeing properties.
