At the reference plant(Wolsong unit No. 1) a manual poison sampling system is provided to periodically sample gadolinium from each tank and analyze it in the laboratory to provide assurance that adequate poison concentration in each tank is maintained. The AECB required a continuous, on-line monitoring system. On Wolsong unit No. 2, process piping adapter and new instrument loops added to the Liquid Injection Shutdown System(LISS) which is part of SDS2. The new instrument loops continuously monitor SDS2 poison conductivity and initiate an alarm when the poison concentration is too low.
Consideration is given to the possibility to use changes in buoyancy as a negative reactivity feedback mechanism during temperature transients in heavy liquid metal fast reactors. It is shown that by the proper use of heavy pellets in the fuel elements, fuel rods could be endowed with a passive self-ejection mechanism and then with a negative feedback. A first estimate of the feasibility of the mechanism is calculated by using a simplified geometry and model. If in addition, a neutron poison pellet is introduced at the bottom of the fuel, then when the fuel element is displaced upward by buoyancy force, the reactivity will be reduced not only by disassembly of the core but also by introducing the neutron poison from the bottom. The use of induced buoyancy opens up the possibility of introducing greater amounts of actinides into the core, as well as providing a palliative solution to the problem of positive coolant temperature reactivity coefficients that could be featured by the heavy liquid metal fast reactors.
Studies on detoxification of Paralytic Shellfish Poison (PSP)-infested oyster, Crassostrea gigas were carried out using available processing resources. Changes of paralytic shellfish toxin components and specific toxicity during canning process were also investigated with high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Toxic oysters collected at Hachong in Koje Bay were used for experimental samples. The toxicity of oysters with range of 185-778 ug/100g was reduced below the quarantine limit of 80 ug/100g or not detected level by the mouse bioassay after canning process. The mole $\%$ of toxin components in the shucked oyster was in the order of 25.1 mole $\%$ of gonyautoxin 1, 19.2 mole $\%$ of gonyautoxin 3, 17.2 mole $\%$ of gonyautoxin 4 and 14.6 mole $\%$ of gonyautoxin 2. This sample had tracing amounts of Cl, C2, saxitoxin and neosaxitoxin. In the case of specific toxicity, the major toxins were consisted of gonyautoxin 1-4. The sum of gonyautoxin 1, 2, 3 and 4 was 80% of total toxicity of oyster. Saxitoxin and decarbamoylsaxitoxin were the more thermostable than any other toxin components.
Effects of the additions of SiB4 as burnable poison to UO2 on the green density, densification, interdependence between density-grain growth and microstructure of sintered UO2 were studied. UO2 pellets were sintered in flowing hydrogen, at temperature 1200, 1350, 1500, and 168$0^{\circ}C$ for 3 hours and at 168$0^{\circ}C$ for 0, 1, 3, and 10 hours, respectively. Green densities were in the range of about 4.5~5.4 g/㎤, and decreased as the amount of SiB4 increased when green pellets were made by with use of a double action press at 1000 kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$. The density of sintered UO2 pellets was around 92~94% of the theoretical density and did not change significantly as the amount of SiB2 addition increased. However, the density of sintered pellets decreased with the increase in SiB4. The grain growth could be characterized in terms of two stages: Grain growth occurred with the increasing density in the first stage, whereas the second stage was characterized by the grain growth without increasing of density. A liquid phase was observed at grain boundaries and grain edges in the microstructure of sintered UO2 pellets with 5000 ppm and 10,000 ppm SiB4. This liquid, possible formed at about 168$0^{\circ}C$, did not enhance the shrinkage, but appeared to accelarate the grain growth. It seems that the second stage grain growth was due to the presence of pressurized insoluble trapped gas in isolated pores.
To prevent paralytic shellfish poisoning (PSP) due to the consumption of shellfish contaminated with PSP toxins, the quantitative analysis of these toxins is very crucial. The AOAC International mouse bioassay (MBA) has been used widely for the routine monitoring of PSP toxins for more than 50 years. However, this method has low sensitivity and high limit of quantification (LOQ) and interferences from other components in the extract, and it cannot determine toxic profiles. Ethical problems also exist with the continued use of this live mouse assay. To establish an alternative method to the MBA used for PSP toxins analysis, we attempted to optimize the analysis conditions of a precolumn high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) oxidation method and succeeded in validating its accuracy and precision in quantifying PSP toxins. A clear peak and the isolation of PSP toxins were obtained by injecting the working standards of Certified Reference Materials using HPLC. The LOQ of the precolumn HPLC oxidation method for PSP toxins was about $0.1002{\mu}g/g$, which represented an approximately fourfold improvement in detection capability versus the AOAC MBA. The intra-accuracy and precision for PSP toxins in oysters were 77.0-103.3% and 2.0-5.7%, respectively, while the respective inter-accuracy and precision were 77.3-100.7% and 2.4-6.0%. The mean recoveries of PSP toxins from oysters were 75.2-112.1%. The results of a comparison study showed good correlation between the results of the precolumn HPLC oxidation method and those of MBA, with a correlation factor of 0.9291 for mussels. The precolumn HPLC oxidation method may be used as an alternative to, or supplementary method with, MBA to monitor the occurrence of PSP toxins and to analyze the profiles of these toxins in shellfish.
In order to study on Bu-ja(Oh-du) toxicosis, the outhor investigated many documents. The results obtained were as follows: 1. Toxicosis of Bu-ja(Oh-du) arised mainly from carelessness in use. 2. In the symptoms of Bu-ja(Oh-du), Heart System(心系) symptom often came out. 3. The general and local paralysis, falling of blood pressure in Heart System(心系) symptom : vertigo, cramp in Liver System(肝系) symptom : nausea, vomiting in Spleen System (脾系) symptom : difficulty of breathing in Lung System(肺系) symptom : wasting disease in Kidney System (腎系) symptom frequently originated from toxicosis of Bu-ja(Oh-du). 4. In the detoification method, there are atropin injection, carrying out a gastric lavage, and supplying a liquid medicine from the western medicine : taking ginger-licorice root decoction, taking mung beans thick decoction and getting vomited with soaked cinnamon from the oriental medicine. And also keeping warm and oxygen inhalation were used to counteract poison. 5. A pregnant woman, heat of excess type(實熱), yang sydrome(陽證 )must not be taken Bu-ja(Oh-du).

During the period of retubing work for the licensing renewal, the fuel channels, calandria tubes and feeders of CANDU Reactors will be replaced, and calandria visual examination will be performed. This period is a unique opportunity to inspect the inside of the calandria. The visual inspection for the calandria vessel and its internals of Wolsong NPP is scheduled for confirming the calandria integrity. The first visual inspection for the calandria is planned in Pt. Lepreau led by AECL. The visual inspection for Wolsong NPP, led by NETEC(Nuclear Engineering & Technology Institute) of KHNP, will employ 3D laser scanner and 3D CAD Mock-up for the first time in the world, in addition to a conventional video camera. The inspection system is composed of a robot with the 3D laser scanner, a video camera and a hardness meter.

Nicotine-poisoning related to the electronic cigarettes (e-cigarette) is increasing worldwide. Moreover, the American Association of Poison Control Centers has advised the public to use caution with e-cigarette devices and highly concentrated liquid nicotine after a surge in related poisonings. We report here the first case of nicotine poisoning from self-injected e-cigarette fluid in Korea. A 17-year-old male patient subcutaneously injected himself with 0.5 ml of nicotine solution for an electronic cigarette via the dorsum of his hand, after which he complained of nausea, vomiting, dizziness and dyspnea. His vital signs were within the normal range, but his mental status was drowsy. He was admitted for observation and the symptoms disappeared the following day. Sinus bradycardia with a rate of 45/min was observed on the third hospital day, but improved after 6 hours. He was discharged without complications.

Purpose: This study examined the patterns of drugs, poisons, and chemicals detected in autopsy samples performed in the Seoul Institute and other regional forensic offices of the National Forensic Service (NFS) between 2014 and 2016. Methods: The investigation carried out using the laboratory information management system. Forensic toxicological identification and quantitation were performed in autopsy samples, including heart blood, peripheral blood, liver, kidney, vitreous humor and etc. Gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) were used to analyze the drugs and poisons. Results: Forensic autopsies were performed on 9,674 cases in this period. Based on the autopsy reports, 699 cases (7.2%) were considered as unnatural deaths caused by fatal intoxication. The number of male deaths was higher than that of female deaths, with the age of 50-59 being the most common age group. Conclusion: Drugs comprised the largest number of deaths due to poison, followed by alcohol, agrochemicals, drug with alcohol, carbon monoxide, and cyanide, in that order. Zolpidem was the most frequently used drug in all drug-related intoxication cases.
