The article discusses the features of adaptation of the parameters of the physical layer of data transmission in self-organizing networks based on unmanned aerial vehicles operating in the conditions of "smart cities". The concept of cities of this type is defined, the historical path of formation, the current state and prospects for further development in the aspect of transition to "smart cities" of the third generation are shown. Cities of this type are aimed at providing more comfortable and safe living conditions for citizens and autonomous automated work of all components of the urban economy. The perspective of the development of urban mobile automated technical means of infocommunications is shown, one of the leading directions of which is the creation and active use of wireless self-organizing networks based on unmanned aerial vehicles. The advantages of using small-sized unmanned aerial vehicles for organizing networks of this type are considered, as well as the range of tasks to be solved in the conditions of modern "smart cities". It is shown that for the transition to self-organizing networks in the conditions of "smart cities" of the third generation, it is necessary to ensure the adaptation of various levels of OSI network models to dynamically changing operating conditions, which is especially important for the physical layer. To maintain an acceptable level of the value of the bit error probability when transmitting command and telemetry data, it is proposed to adaptively change the coding rate depending on the signal-to-noise ratio at the receiver input (or on the number of channel decoder errors), and when transmitting payload data, it is also proposed to adaptively change the coding rate together with the choice of modulation methods that differ in energy and spectral efficiency. As options for the practical implementation of these solutions, it is proposed to use an approach based on the principles of neuro-fuzzy control, for which examples of determining the boundaries of theoretically achievable efficiency are given.

Objective: This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of the provision of a protein-rich supplement on productive performance, and metabolic profile on grazing suckling female beef calves in tropical conditions during 150 d of experimentation. Methods: Fifty-six Nellore suckling female calves, and their respective dams were distributed in a completely randomised design and made to undergo two treatments as follows: UNS (without supplementation), and SUP (supplementation with 5 g/kg body weight [BW] of a protein supplement). Throughout the experiment, animal performance and metabolic profile were evaluated. Also, ureagenesis and gluconeogenesis were assessed for gene expression. Results: SUP female calves showed a higher voluntary intake (p≤0.03) of the diet components evaluated, digestibility of organic matter (p≤0.02) and microbial nitrogen production (MICN; p≤0.02) compared to UNS female calves. In its turn, serum urea nitrogen (p≤0.01) and insulin-like growth factor-1 (p≤0.03) levels and ureagenesis (p≤0.04) increased in SUP female calves compared to UNS female calves. Blood glucose and triglyceride levels were not affected by supplementation. The average daily gain (ADG) from SUP female calves was higher (p≤0.02) compared with UNS female calves. However, supplementation did not affect the body measures of the animals. Conclusion: In summary, provision of a protein-rich supplement improves the intake and nutrients digestibility, ADG and final BW and increases metabolic indicators of the protein status in grazing suckling female beef calves in tropical conditions.

Two methods for analyzing interaction between shaped charge jets and targets are taken in AVEAM-MT (ADD Vulnerability and Effectiveness Assessment Model for Materiel Target), which is a model for vulnerability analysis of materiel targets and being developed by ADD. One is an empirical method improved from the Fireman-Pugh technique for rapid penetration calculation into target components. The other is ADD-TSC(ADD Tandem Shaped Charge), which is a physics-based model extended to be applicable for shaped charge jets from the Walker-Anderson penetration model for higher fidelity analysis. In this paper, the two methods are briefly described, and the empirical technique is compared to the physics-based model in the prediction of residual penetration capacity. The latter is also compared to experimental results found in literature in predicting penetration capacity. These comparisons show that both methods can be used for fast calculations or higher fidelity calculations in vulnerability analysis models like AVEAM-MT which is required to perform a considerable amount of iterative simulation for damage analysis.

This paper presents a real-time, false-pick filter based on deep learning to reduce false alarms of an onsite Earthquake Early Warning (EEW) system. Most onsite EEW systems use P-wave to predict S-wave. Therefore, it is essential to properly distinguish P-waves from noises or other seismic phases to avoid false alarms. To reduce false-picks causing false alarms, this study made the EEWNet Part 1 'False-Pick Filter' model based on Convolutional Neural Network (CNN). Specifically, it modified the Pick_FP (Lomax et al.) to generate input data such as the amplitude, velocity, and displacement of three components from 2 seconds ahead and 2 seconds after the P-wave arrival following one-second time steps. This model extracts log-mel power spectrum features from this input data, then classifies P-waves and others using these features. The dataset consisted of 3,189,583 samples: 81,394 samples from event data (727 events in the Korean Peninsula, 103 teleseismic events, and 1,734 events in Taiwan) and 3,108,189 samples from continuous data (recorded by seismic stations in South Korea for 27 months from 2018 to 2020). This model was trained with 1,826,357 samples through balancing, then tested on continuous data samples of the year 2019, filtering more than 99% of strong false-picks that could trigger false alarms. This model was developed as a module for USGS Earthworm and is written in C language to operate with minimal computing resources.
Cheonggukjang is a traditional fermented food in Korea, which is known to exert beneficial effects on health. In this study, we evaluated the effects of cheonggukjang fermented by Bacillus subtilis SCGB 574 (B574) on high fat diet (HFD)-deteriorated large intestinal health. Rats were fed with HFD or HFD supplemented with 10.1% cheonggukjang (B574). Fecal microbiota was analyzed based on 16S rRNA gene sequences, and the fecal and serum metabolome were measured using GC-MS. Our results showed that SCGB574 intake significantly reduced body weight, restored tight junction components, and ameliorated inflammatory cell infiltration. SCGB574 also shifted gut microbiota by increasing the abundance of short chain fatty acid producers such as Alistipes and Flintibacter, although it decreased the abundance of Lactobacillus. Serum and fecal metabolome analyses showed significantly different metabolic profiles between the groups. The top five metabolites increased by SCGB574 were i) arginine biosynthesis, ii) alanine, aspartate, and glutamate metabolism; iii) starch and sucrose metabolism; iv) neomycin, kanamycin, and gentamicin biosynthesis; and v) galactose metabolism. These results showed that cheonggukjang fermented by SCGB574 ameliorates adverse effects of HFD through improving intestinal health.

In the RABiTS approach to coated conductor development, successful (both economic and technological) depends on the refinement and optimization of each of three important components: the metal tape substrate, the buffer layer(s), and the HTS layer. Here we will report on the ORNL approach and progress in each of these areas. - Most applications will require metal tapes with low magnetic hysteresis, mechanical strength, and excellent crystalline texture. Some of these requirements are competing. We report on progress in obtaining a good combination of these characteristics on metal alloys of Ni-Cr and Ni-W. - The deposition of appropriate buffer layers is a crucial step. Recently, base research has shown that the presence of a stable sulfur superstructure present on the metal surface is needed for the nucleation and epitaxial growth of vapor-deposited seed buffer layers such as YSZ, CeO$_2$ and SrTiO$_3$. We report on the details and control of this superstructure for nickel tapes, as well as recent results for Cu and Ni-13%Cr. - Processes for deposition of the HTS coating must economically provide large values of the figure-of-merit for conductors, current x length. At ORNL, we have devoted efforts to a precursor/post-annealing approach to YBCO coatings, for which the deposition and reaction steps are separate. We describe motivation for and progress toward developing this approach. - Finally, we address some issues for the implementation of coated conductors in real applications, including the need for texture control and electrical stabilization of the HTS coating.

The night visibility of pavement is being considered as a global issue in the field of traffic safety. Although the spreading glass beads on the lane paints has been mainly used to secure night-visibility by utilizing the effect of retroreflection, obvious shortcoming of this method is that retroflection does not occur in the range where the headlights do not reach the glass beads. The use of functional paints including phosphorescent constituents could be a solution for overcoming fore-mentioned problem. SrAl2O4 based chemicals have not only good phosphorescent property, but also are chemically stable compared to existing ZnS based materials. However, this chemicals also need the improvement due to slightly reduced luminous effect in time. Herein, we developed novel paints showing enhanced phosphorescent properties by putting rare earth elements such as Eu, Dy and Y into SrAl2O4. These prepared phosphorescent pigments have displayed improved properties in terms of durability and long afterglow. For instance, the property of afterglow has been persisted after 5 hours with luminace of 20.6 mcd/m2.
α1-adrenoceptors link via the G-protein Gq/G11 to both Ca2+ entry and release from stores, but may also activate Rho kinase, which causes calcium sensitization. This study aimed to identify the subtype(s) of α1-adrenoceptor involved in Rho kinase-mediated responses in both rat aorta and mouse spleen, tissues in which contractions involve multiple subtypes of α1-adrenoceptor. Tissues were contracted with cumulative concentrations of noradrenaline (NA) in 0.5 log unit increments, before and in the presence of an antagonist or vehicle. Contractions produced by NA in rat aorta are entirely α1-adrenoceptor mediated as they are competitively blocked by prazosin. The α1A-adrenoceptor antagonist RS100329 had low potency in rat aorta. The α1D-adrenoceptor antagonist BMY7378 antagonized contractions in rat aorta in a biphasic manner: low concentrations blocking α1D-adrenoceptors and high concentrations blocking α1B-adrenoceptors. The Rho kinase inhibitor fasudil (10 µM) significantly reduced aortic contractions in terms of maximum response, suggesting inhibition of α1B-adrenoceptor mediated responses. In the mouse spleen, a tissue in which all 3 subtypes of α1-adrenoceptor are involved in contractions to NA, fasudil (3 µM) significantly reduced both early and late components to the NA contraction, the early component involving α1B- and α1D-adrenoceptors, and the late component involving α1B- and α1A-adrenoceptors. This suggests that fasudil inhibits α1B-adrenoceptor mediated responses. It is concluded that α1D- and α1B-adrenoceptors interact in rat aorta and α1D-, α1A- and α1B-adrenoceptors interact in the mouse spleen to produce contractions and these interactions suggest that one of the receptors preferentially activates Rho kinase, most likely the α1B-adrenoceptor.
In this paper, a powerful photocatalyst based on carbon nanocomposite is developed in order to obtain a new material applicable in water treatment and especially for the discoloration of effluents used in the textile industry. For that, TiO2-graphene nanocomposites have been successfully synthesized by a mixture of Functionalized Graphene Sheet (FGS) and tetrachlorotitanium complexes to form FGS-TiO2 nanocomposite. In the presence of an anionic surfactant, we used a new chemical process to functionalize graphene sheets in order to make them an excellent medium for blocking and preventing the aggregation of TiO2 nanoparticles. The components of these nanocomposites are characterized by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), which confirms the successful formation of the FGS-TiO2 nanocomposite. It was found that the TiO2 nanoparticles were dispersed uniformly on the graphene plane which possesses better charge separation capability than pure TiO2. The FGS-TiO2 nanocomposites exhibited higher photocatalytic activity compared to pure TiO2 for the removal of three dyes: such as Methylene Blue (MB), Bromophenol Blue (BB) and Alizarin Red-S (AR) in water. The removal process was fast and more efficient with FGS-TiO2 nanocomposite in daylight (in the absence of UV irradiation) compared to pure TiO2 nanoparticles without and under UV in all pH range.

The advent of deep learning technologies has led to the development of various medical applications, making healthcare services more convenient and effective. Among these applications, heart rate estimation is considered a vital method for assessing an individual's health. Traditional methods, such as photoplethysmography through smart watches, have been widely used but are invasive and require additional hardware. Recent advancements allow for contactless heart rate estimation through facial image analysis, providing a more hygienic and convenient approach. In this paper, we propose a lightweight methodology capable of accurately estimating heart rate in mobile environments, using a specialized 2-channel network structure based on 2D convolution. Our method considers both subtle facial movements and color changes resulting from blood flow and muscle contractions. The approach comprises two major components: an Encoder for analyzing image features and a regression layer for evaluating Blood Volume Pulse. By incorporating both features simultaneously our methodology delivers more accurate results even in computing environments with limited resources. The proposed approach is expected to offer a more efficient way to monitor heart rate without invasive technology, particularly well-suited for mobile devices.
