  • CCN, which has emerged to overcome the limitations of existing network structures, enables efficient networking by changing the IP Address-based network method to the Content-based network method. At this time, the contents are stored on each node(router) rather than on the top server, and considering the limitation of storage capacity, it is very important to determine which contents to store and release through the cache policy, and there are several cache policies that have been studied so far. In this paper, two of the existing cache policies, producer popularity-based and distance-based, were mixed. In addition, the mixing ratio was set differently to experiment, and we proved which experiement was the most efficient one.

  • Today, in exponential growth of internet, the importance of file caching which could reduce the sun load, the volume of network traffic, and the latency of response has emerged. Actually, in one network, the traffic has reduced by using the cache and this means that file caching can improve the internet environment by cost a fraction of link upgrades. In this paper, we address a dynamic cache group configuration policy, to solve the scalable problem. The simulation result shows that the cache group using our proposal policy reduces the latency of response time and it means that out cache group configuration is more scalable than the static cache configuration.

  • Cache mechanism, which has been a research subject for a significant period of time in computer science, has become realized in the form of web caching in network practice. Web caching has various advantages, such as saving of network resources and response time reduction, depends its performance on cache replacement policy, therefore, analysis and consideration of the environment in which a web cache operates is essential for designing better replacement policies. Thus, in the current web environment where is rapidly changing relative to the past, a new cache replacement policy is necessary to reflect those changes. In this paper we stipulate some characteristics of the web at present, propose a new cache replacement policy, and evaluate it.

  • Object caching is a desirable feature to improve the both scalability and performance of distributed application systems for information infrastructure, the information management system leveraging the power of network computing. However, in order to exploit such benefits, we claim that the following problems: cache server placement, cache replacement, and cache synchronization, should be considered when designing any object cache system. We are under developing DOC: a Distributed Object Caching, as a part of building our information infrastructures. In this paper, we show how each problem is inter-related, and focus to highlight how we handle cache server deployment problem

  • With a huge demand for replicated content on the Internet, a new networking paradigm called information-centric networking (ICN) has been introduced for efficient content dissemination. In ICN, named content is distributed over the network cache and it is accessed by name instead of a location identifier. These aspects allow users to retrieve content from any of the nodes having replicas, and consequently 1) network resources are more efficiently utilized by avoiding redundant transmission and 2) more scalable services are provided by distributing server loads. However, in-network caching in ICN brings about a new type of security issues, called content poisoning attacks, where fabricated content is located in the network cache and interferes with the normal behavior of the system. In this paper, we look into the problems of content poisoning in ICN and discuss security architectures against them. In particular, we reconsider the state-of-the-art schemes from the perspective of feasibility, and propose a practical security architecture.

  • In mobile computing environments, invalidation and propagation method based on broadcasting is used to transmit the information for cache maintenance of mobile hosts. Previous researches generally adopted invalidation method that easily adapts to the limited network bandwidth and the frequent disconnection. But the invalidation of frequently accessed data causes the contention on the wireless network with the increasing cache requests. Although the propagation method can reduce the cache requests, the high probability of broken message or loss of message is the main factor that degrades the system performance. To resolve these problems, we propose adaptive cache maintenance scheme that dynamically adjusts the broadcasting ratio of invalidation and propagation, according to the wireless network connection states. The proposed scheme broadcasts the propagation message in stable connection state, so it can reduce the cache requests and server response time. With the decreasing available network bandwidth by the frequent partial disconnection and disconnection, the proposed scheme dynamically increases the broadcasting ratio of the invalidation messages to minimize the broken message or the loss of message probability. Consequently, the proposed scheme resolves the problems which arise in the invalidation or propagation method in mobile computing environments.

  • Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attacks towards name servers of the Domain Name System (DNS) have threaten to disrupt this critical service. This paper studies the vulnerability of the cache server to the flooding DNS query traffic. As the resolution service provided by cache server, the incoming DNS requests, even the massive attacking traffic, are maintained in the waiting queue. The sojourn of requests lasts until the corresponding responses are returned from the authoritative server or time out. The victim cache server is thus overloaded by the pounding traffic and thereafter goes down. The impact of such attacks is analyzed via the model of queuing process in both cache server and authoritative server. Some specific limits hold for this practical dual queuing process, such as the limited sojourn time in the queue of cache server and the independence of the two queuing processes. The analytical results are presented to evaluate the impact of DDoS attacks on cache server. Finally, numerical results are provided for further analysis.

  • As the number of Internet users and the amount of web contents have increased very fast, reducing the load of web servers and providing web services more rapidly have been great issues. A web-cache system, which is located between the user and the web server, has been used by many web service providers as an effective way to reduce the load of web servers and the web service response time. In this paper, we have developed a web-cache system which is based on the Squid cache and has a compression capability. The web-cache system in which compression capability reduces the amount of network traffic and the web service response time by transfering the web contents in the compressed format over the network between the web-cache system and the user. The performance enhancement is greater in the reverse-cache system than in the forward-cache system because in the case of the reverse-cache system, the cache reduces the amount of traffic on the Internet which is the bottleneck in the network path between the user and the web server. The experimentation result shows that the amount of data traffic has reduced from 2 to 8 times depending on the size of the web contents. The web server response time has reduced 37% on the average and when the size of the web content is greater than 10Kbyte, the response time has reduced 87% on the average.

  • This paper presents a caching algorithm that offers better reconstructed data quality to the requesters than a probabilistic caching scheme while maintaining comparable network performance. It decides whether an incoming data packet must be cached based on the dynamic caching probability, which is adjusted according to the priorities of content carried by the data packet, the uncertainty of content popularities, and the records of cache events in the router. The adaptation of caching probability depends on the priorities of content, the multiplication factor adaptation, and the addition factor adaptation. The multiplication factor adaptation is computed from an instantaneous cache-hit ratio, whereas the addition factor adaptation relies on a multiplication factor, popularities of requested contents, a cache-hit ratio, and a cache-miss ratio. We evaluate the performance of the caching algorithm by comparing it with previous caching schemes in network simulation. The simulation results indicate that our proposed caching algorithm surpasses previous schemes in terms of data quality and is comparable in terms of network performance.

  • Due to the tremendous amount and its rapid increase of network traffic, the performance of network equipments are becoming an important issue. Network filtering is one of primary functions affecting the performance of the network equipment such as a firewall or a load balancer to process the packet. In this paper, we propose a cache based tri method to improve the performance of the existing tri method of searching for network filtering. When several packets are exchanged at a time between a server and a client, the tri method repeats the same search procedure for network filtering. However, the proposed method can avoid unnecessary repetition of search procedure by exploiting cache so that the performance of network filtering can be improved. We performed network filtering experiments for the existing method and the proposed method. Experimental results showed that the proposed method could process more packets up to 790,000 per second than the existing method. When the size of cache list is 11, the proposed method showed the most outstanding performance improvement (18.08%) with respect to memory usage increase (7.75%).
