Carbon-based doping to MgB2 superconductor is the simplest approach to enhance the critical current densities under magnetic fields. Carbon quantum dots is synthesized in this work as a carbon provider to MgB2 superconductors. Polyvinyl Pyrrolidone is pyrolyzed and dispersed in dimethylfomamide solvent as a dopant to the mixture of Mg and B powders. Doped MgB2 bulk samples clearly show the decrease of a-axis lattice constant, grain refinements, and broadening of FWHM of diffraction peaks compared to un-doped MgB2 possibly due to the carbon substitution and/or boron vacancy at the boron site in MgB2 lattice. Also, high-field Jc for the doped MgB2 is enhanced significantly with the crossover about 3 T at 5 & 20 K when increasing the doping of carbon quantum dots.
Since the MgB2 superconductor is simply composed of two constituents of Mg and B, its performance can be monitored easily with the change of one ingredient compared to the other. With the powder size of B less than 100 nm, two different sizes of Mg powders are used to investigate the reaction temperature dependence of MgB2 bulk samples. In the range of 630-700℃ for the duration of 30 min., the un-reacted Mg is seen only at 630℃ with Mg powder size of <5 ㎛, whereas Mg traces are detected at all the temperature range with Mg powder size of <45 ㎛. The reaction temperature dependence of MgB2 superconducting transition temperature, Tc, shows little difference whether Mg powder size is large or small in this range except for the 630℃. It is worthy of notice that the critical current densities of MgB2 show higher performance with the small size of Mg compared to the large one at all field ranges. With the Mg powder size of <45 ㎛, flux pinning is enhanced with decreasing the reaction temperature, whereas flux pinning properties is quite similar in the Mg powder size of <5 ㎛ except for the 630℃, where Mg is left behind after the reaction.
This study aims to demonstrate the effect of squalene (SQ), one of the natural chelator, on the ultrastructural changes in the mouse liver caused by $CdCl_2$. A total of 40 healthy ICR that weighted 30 gm $({\pm}2gm)$ was used for experiment. The experimental group was divided into two groups; group A and B. The group A administrated $CdCl_2$ (4.0 mg/kg) to the intraperitoneal. The group B administrated $CdCl_2$ (4.0 mg/kg) to the intraperitoneal treated with SQ (180 mg/kg, 2 time/day). Each group was observed at 24, 48, 72, 96 hours after injected $CdCl_2$. The results were as follows: 1. Group A Nuclear membrane was observed very irregular at the 24 hours and keep rounded-shape from 48 hours. Mitochondria were observed destruction of inner cavity to the 72 hours and some showed inner cavity destruction at 96 hours. RER (rough endoplasmic reticulum) showed the dilation of inner cavity all the around and reformed typical lamellae from 72 hours. Lysosome were observed in the cytoplasm from 24 hours. From 72 hours, glycogen showed over cytoplasm. 2. Group B Nuclear membrane was observed regular at overall the time. Mitochondria showed normal shapes (round, rod) at overall the time. To 48 hours, inner cavity of rER dilated and destructed lamellae. But from 72 hours, observed typical lamellae of rER Lysosome were observed from 24 hours. And glycogen showed from 24 hours. These results suggest that squalene attenuates the toxic effect of the $CdCl_2$ in the mouse liver.
The objectives of this study were to determine the chemical composition of persimmon pickles and microorganisms associated with the manufacture of persimmon pickles. Moisture content was 80.04% and sugar content was 13.72%, but crude ash content was 4.26% which meant some of sodium chloride in soaking solution were permeated into fresh persimmon. Soluble tannin and total vitamin C contents were decreased from 635.45 mg% and 34.53 mg% to 81.04 mg% and 23.76 mg%, respectively. Free sugars contained in persimmon pickles were glucose, fructose and sucrose, 17 kinds of free amino acids were detected including glutamic acid (24.97 mg%), aspartic acid (24.02 mg%) and leucine (22.33 mg%). Microorganisms asociated with the manufacture of persimmon pickles were identified as Bacillus subtilis, B. cereus, B. pumilus, B. thuringiensis, Candida glabrata, C. guilliermondi and Hansenula cnomala, especially C. glabrata was the strain which caused the swelling of vacuum packages of persimmon pickles in retail stores.

The effect of electron beam (EB) irradiation on superconducting properties and microstructures of MgB2 bulk superconductors were investigated. At E-beam doses of 1×1016 e/cm2 and 1×1017 e/cm2, the effect of irradiation on a superconducting transition temperature (Tc) of MgB2 was weak. As a dose increases to 5×1017 e/cm2, Tc decreases by 0.5 K. The critical current density (Jc) measured at 4.2 K and 20 K, and 0 T - 5 T increases slightly as exposure time increases. X-ray diffraction for the irradiation surface of MgB2 shows that the diffraction intensity of (hkl) peaks decreases proportionally as the exposure time increases. This indicates that the crystallinity of MgB2 was degraded by irradiation. TEM investigation for the irradiated sample showed distorted lattice structure, which is consistent with the XRD results. The Jc increase and Tc reduction of MgB2 by irradiation are believed to be caused by the lattice distortion.
Purpose : Recently, different results about factors affecting accurate quantitation of 24-hr urinary protein(24UP) amount using spot urine protein/creatinine ratio(PCR) have been reported. The current study was designed to evaluate correlation between 24UP amounts and PCR in children, and the effect of 24UP amounts, age, sex, and glomerular filtration rate(GFR) on this correlation. Methods : Among 94 patients who visited the department of pediatrics in Busan Paik Hospital from March 2002 to August 2002, 68 patients whose urinary creatinine excretion was ${\geq}15mg/kg/day$ were included in this study. All the patients were divided into I, II/A, B group(I : 24UP<500 mg/day, II : $24UP{\geq}500mg/day$, A : <10 years of age, B : ${\geq}10years$ of age). Pearson correlation analysis was performed between 24UP and PCR to evaluate the relationship. We defined fractional difference between 24UP and PCR, and then performed multiple regression analysis with 24UP amount, age, GFR and fractional difference. Results : There was a strong positive linear correlation between 24UP and PCR(R=0.936, P<0.0001) in all patients, and the correlation was also good in each group. Using PCR cutoff values of 0.5, the PCR provided high sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive value in predicting 24UP amount ${\geq}500mg$. The factors affecting accurate quantitation of proteinuria using spot urine PCR was age, not 24UP amount, GFR or sex. Conclusion : Spot urine PCR is a useful test but has limitations in predicting 24UP amount. Therefore, it should be used only as screening method. Age-adjusted PCR cutoff values may be necessary to predict 24UP amount in children with proteinuria.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of urinary biomarkers, such as neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (uNGAL) and ${\beta}-2$ microglobulin (uB2MG), in early detection of urinary tract infection (UTI) in infants aged <3 months with fever. Methods: A total of 422 infants aged <3 months (male:female=267:155; mean age, 56.4 days), who were admitted for fever, were retrospectively included in this study. We compared uNGAL and uB2MG between the UTI and non-UTI groups at the time of admission. The sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, and area under the curve (AUC) of uNGAL and uB2MG for use in diagnosing UTI were assessed. Results: Among 422 patients, 102 (24.2%) were diagnosed with UTI. Levels of uNGAL were higher in the UTI group than in the non-UTI group (366.6 ng/mL vs. 26.9 ng/mL, P<0.001). Levels of uB2MG were not different between the 2 groups. Multivariate analysis revealed that uNGAL was an independent predictive factor for UTI (P=0.033). The sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy were 90.2%, 92.5%, and 91.9% for uNGAL, and 48.0%, 43.8%, and 44.8% for uB2MG, respectively. AUC of uNGAL was 0.942 and that of uB2MG was 0.407. Conclusion: Accuracy of uNGAL in the diagnosis of UTI is high in febrile infants aged <3 months. uNGAL can help in the early diagnosis and treatment of UTI in infants.
The crystallization effects of boron (B) powder on the phase, full width at half maximum (FWHM) values, and critical properties were investigated for in-situ reacted $MgB_2$ bulk superconductors. The semi-crystalline B powder was heat-treated at different temperatures of 1000, 1300 and $1500^{\circ}C$ for 5 hours in an Ar atmosphere. Then, using as-received and heat-treated B powders, the $MgB_2$ samples were prepared at $600^{\circ}C$ for 40 hours in an Ar atmosphere. As the heat-treatment temperature of the B powder increased, both the particle size of the B powder and crystalline phase increased. In the case of $MgB_2$ samples using B powders heat-treated at above $1300^{\circ}C$, unreacted magnesium (Mg) and B remained due to the improved crystallinity of the B powder. As the heat-treatment temperature of B powder increased, the critical current density of $MgB_2$ decreased continuously due to the reduction of grain boundary density and superconducting volume caused by unreacted Mg and B.
Ready-to-eat chicken breasts were packaged in a multilayer, gas-tight tray with top film and various quality changes were investigated during the 24 wk of storage at $10^{\circ}C$. Over the storage period, total aerobes, mesophilic aerobic and anaerobic spore formers, and Clostridium spp. were not detected above 1.0 log CFU/g (detection limit). The residual oxygen ratio in the head space of tray and pH values tended to decrease with storage time, namely from initial values of 5.7% and 6.56 to 3.3% and 6.34 at week 24, respectively. Thiobarbituric acid reactive substances and volatile basic nitrogen values increased from 0.52 mg malonaldehyde (MA)/kg and 2.1 mg/100 g initially, to 3.70 mg MA/kg and 39.9 mg/100 g at week 24, respectively. In terms of the change in meat color during storage, the samples showed a slight increasing trend of CIE $a^*$, $b^*$, and ${\Delta}E$ values over the storage period until week 24 (p<0.05). The change in brine color showed a similar trend with meat of which Hunter $b^*$ and ${\Delta}E$ values increased slightly during storage during 24 wk (p<0.05). The values for the transmittance degree of brine in the samples tended to decrease. Moreover, values for the absorbance degree tended to increase with storage time until week 24. The sensory scores for color, texture, odour, and flavour were evaluated below 5.0 (marketability level) after 24 wk of storage. Based on this sensory evaluation, it could be concluded that retorted RTE chicken breast could remain marketable for at least 20 wk at $10^{\circ}C$.
