Taxonomic re-examination of a carpet-like Codium (Chlorophyta) from Jeju, Korea

  • There are three carpet-like Codium species with a broadly expanded thallus reported from Korea and Japan: C. latum Suringar, C. tapetum Y. Lee, and C. tenuifolium Shimada, Tadano and J. Tanaka. During surveys of green algal diversity, we encountered a Codium species with carpet-like thalli from several sites on Jeju Island. To confirm the taxonomic identity of these specimens, we studied the morphological features and obtained rbcL gene sequences. The morphological and sequence data indicated that the carpet-like Codium specimens from Jeju are C. tenuifolium from Japan, but distant from Japanese C. latum. We propose that the carpet-like specimens from Jeju should be renamed C. tenuifolium, instead of C. tapetum or C. latum. C. tenuifolium is characterized by a tenuous, carpet-like and erect thallus with a very short and slightly compressed stipe arising from a discal holdfast, sub-pyriform and clavate utricles with a tumid and swollen apical head, and globular or sub-globular gametangia issued at the basal portion of the utricles.

  • 본 논문에서는 선형 TPMACA C의 0-tree에서 0이 아닌 상태를 여원벡터로 갖는 CA C'를 분석하여 C의 모든 상태가 C'의 어느 곳에 있는지를 밝혔다. 또한 C의 상태전이 그래프에서 한 경로만 알면 나머지 상태를 모두 알 수 있음을 밝혔다.

생쥐 GV난자와 1-세포기 배아의 핵막붕괴에 미치는 Protein Kinase A와 C의 작용 (Action of Protein Kinase A and C Activators on Germinal Vesicle Breakdown and One-Cell Embryos in the Mouse)

  • 난자성숙 재개와 1-세포기 배아의 세포주기에서, cAMP-의존성 protein kinase A와 diacylglycerol-의존성 protein kinase C가 핵막붕괴에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 난자성숙 재기는 dbcAMP, IBMX, TPA, 또는 diacyllycerol에 의해 억제되었다. 또한 protein kinase A와 protein kinase C 활성제를 같이 처리하면 난자성숙이 더욱 억제되었다. 그러나 1-세포기 배아의 전핵막붕괴에는 아무런 영향도 미치지 못하였으며, 단지 protein kinase C 활성제만이 세포질 분열을 억제하였다. 이상의 결과로부터, protein kinase A와 protein kinase C에 의한 단백질 인산화 양상이 GV난자의 핵막붕괴와 1-세포기 배아의 전핵막붕괴에 미치는 세포내 작용기작은 상이함을 알 수 있었으며, 전기영동 결과, 81 KD 단백질이 난자성숙 재개에 중요한 역할을 하리라 사료되었다.

C/Si 몰 비가 TEOS와 페놀수지를 출발원료 사용하여 합성된 β-SiC 분말의 특성에 미치는 영향 (Effect of the C/Si Molar Ratio on the Characteristics of β-SiC Powders Synthesized from TEOS and Phenol Resin)

  • ${\beta}$-SiC powders were synthesized by a carbothermal reduction process using $SiO_2$-C precursors fabricated by a sol-gel process using phenol resin and TEOS as starting materials for carbon and Si sources, respectively. The C/Si molar ratio was selected as an important parameter for synthesizing SiC powders using a sol-gel process, and the effects of the C/Si molar ratio (1.4-3.0) on the particle size, particle size distribution, and yield of the synthesized ${\beta}$-SiC powders were investigated. It was found that (1) the particle size of the synthesized ${\beta}$-SiC powders decreased with an increase in the C/Si molar ratio in the $SiO_2$-C hybrid precursors, (2) the particle size distribution widened with an increase in the C/Si molar ratio, and (3) the yield of the ${\beta}$-SiC powder production increased with an increase in the C/Si molar ratio.

새삼, 실새삼 및 갯실새삼 추출물이 Clone M-3 세포주의 Melanin 생합성 및 Tyrosinase 활성에 미치는 영향과 세포독성 및 항산화효과 (Inhibitory Effects on Melanin Biosynthesis and Tyrosinase Activity; Cytotoxicity in Clone M-3 and Antioxidant Activity by Cuscuta japonica, C. australis, and C, chinensis Extracts)

  • Water extracts, ethanol extracts, and juice of Cusuta japonica, C, australis, and C. chinensis were prepared, and their cytotoxicity, antioxidant activity and inhibitory effects on tyrosinase activitiy and melanin biosynthesis were estimated by using melanoma Clone M-3. From this study; the following conclusions were attained. Extracts of Cuscuta japonica, C. australis, and C. chinensis showed noticeable cytotoxicity except ethanol extracts from the stem of C. australis. A maximual cytotoxicity was observed with tile ethanol extract from the seed of C, australis (87.39%). While the ethanol extract from the seed of C. japonica (91.88%) showed the most pronounced inhibitory effect on melanin biosynthesis, the water extract from the stem of C. japonica (1.05%) possessed very little inhibitory effect. The most inhibitory effect on tyrosinase activity was observed with the water extract from the stem of C. australis (76.67%). Howeverr the water extract from the stem of C. japonica showed a very poor effect on the inhibition of tyrosinase activity All the preparations, except extracts from the seed of C. australis were able to remove reactive oxygen species (ROS) in a dose-dependent manner. The juice of C. japonica demonstrated the strongest activity (59.02%).

  • 본 연구에서는 방으로부터의 열손실 및 특수공간 내에서의 열전달에 응용할 수 있는 자료를 얻기 위하여 고온부가 존재하는 밀폐공간 내의 자연대류 열전달을 밀 폐공간의 경계조건을 좌,우측이 저온벽면이고 상,하면이 단열인 경우와 좌,우측이 단 열벽면이고 상,하면이 저온인 경우에 있어서 고온부의 중심 위치 X$_{c}$,Y$_{c}$를 수평으로 X$_{c}$,Y$_{c}$=0.2~0.5, 0.5 그리고 수직으로 X$_{c}$,Y$_{c}$=0.5, 0.2 ~0.5, 0.8까지 이동하여 수치해석하였고 실험과 비교 고찰하였다.

몇가지 電解質溶液의 表面張力에 관한 硏究 (A Study of the Surface Tension of Some Electrolytic Solutions)

  • Relative surface tensions of aqueous solutions of KCl, KI and NaI have been measured at 25$^{circ}C$(30$^{circ}C$ for KCl) over a concentration range of 0.0001 to 3M solution. It was observed that there was a minimum in the surface tension-concentration curve for the extremely dilute solutions. Appearance of the minimum has been reported for the other salt solutions so far reported. At moderate and high concentration, these three salts increase the surface tension of water almost linearly as concentration increased, and behaved as a typical "capillary inactive substance", whereas they acted as a capillary active substance in very dilute solutions. Since the Onsager-Samaras equation for the surface tension as a function did not agree with the experimental data, the following empirical equations for the whole concentration range used were obtained. ${\sigma}_r\;=\;1\;+\;0.00072{\sqrt{c}}\;-\;0.0011c\;+\;0.023c^2\; for\;KCl\;at\;30^{\circ}C$ ${\sigma}_r\;=\;1\;+\;0.0077{\sqrt{c}}\;-\;0.0015c\;+\;0.024c^2\;for\;KI\;at\;25^{\circ}C$ ${\sigma}_r\;=\;1\;+\;0.00011{\sqrt{c}}\;-\;0.0090c\;+\;0.077c^2\;for\;NaI\;at\;25^{\circ}C$

PWM 방식과 인버터 방식을 사용한 시스템 에어컨의 성능평가에 대한 실험적 연구(난방저온 특성) (Experimental Study on Performance Evaluation of System A/C using PWM or Inverter Method (Heating Characteristics at Low Temperature Conditions))

  • The present study concerns an experiment on the heating characteristics of a system air-conditioner (A/C) using PWM method or inverter method at low temperature con-ditions. The compressors used are digital scroll type and BLDC inverter type. Under the low outside temperature condition, -5$^{\circ}C$, -1$0^{\circ}C$, -15$^{\circ}C$, heating capacities and COPs are mea-sured by the psychometric calorimeter using air enthalpy method. Also, outlet air temperatures at heating operation mode are measured at -5$^{\circ}C$, -1$0^{\circ}C$ and -15$^{\circ}C$. Experimental results show that COPs of the system A/C using a PWM method are more effective than those of the inverter method at heating operation mode. Although the heater is on, COPs of PWM method are similar to those of BLDC inverter method. Moreover, the heating capacities of PWM method at -5$^{\circ}C$, -1$0^{\circ}C$ and -15$^{\circ}C$ are larger about 10~20% and outlet air tempe-rature at -15$^{\circ}C$ is larger about 10%, compared to the inverter method.

Characteristics of Ni/SiC Schottky Diodes Grown by ICP-CVD

  • The Ni/SiC Schottky diode was fabricated with the $\alpha$-SiC thin film grown by the ICP-CVD method on a (111) Si wafer. $\alpha$-SiC film has been grown on a carbonized Si layer in which the Si surface was chemically converted to a very thin SiC layer achieved using an ICP-CVD method at $700^{\circ}C$. To reduce defects between the Si and $\alpha$-SiC, the surface of the Si wafer was slightly carbonized. The film characteristics of $\alpha$-SiC were investigated by employing TEM (Transmission Electron Microscopy) and FT-IR (Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy). Sputterd Ni thin film was used as the anode metal. The boundary status of the Ni/SiC contact was investigated by AES (Auger Electron Spectroscopy) as a function of the annealing temperature. It is shown that the ohmic contact could be acquired beyond a 100$0^{\circ}C$ annealing temperature. The forward voltage drop at 100A/cm was I.0V. The breakdown voltage of the Ni/$\alpha$-SiC Schottky diode was 545 V, which is five times larger than the ideal breakdown voltage of the silicon device. As well, the dependence of barrier height on temperature was observed. The barrier height from C- V characteristics was higher than those from I-V.

Effect of the Si-C Powder Prepared by Mechanical Alloying on the Densification of Silicon Carbide Powder

  • High purity Si-C (99.999%) powder prepared by mechanical alloying was added to a commercial SiC powder as a sintering additive. Reaction bonded silicon carbide balls and jars with high purity (99.98%) were used for the mechanical alloying. As a result, the purity of the sintered Si-C was higher than 99.99%. When sintered at $2200^{\circ}C$ under 50 MPa pressure for 1 h, SiC containing 10 wt% of high purity Si-C showed a relative density of 95.3%, similar to the relative density of commercial SiC (95%). However, the relative density of SiC decreased to 90.6% without the additive when the applied pressure decreased to 40 MPa. In contrast, the relative density was nearly unaffected by the decrease of the pressure when using the Si-C additive. Therefore, the addition of Si-C powder promoted the densification of SiC above $2000^{\circ}C$ under 40 MPa pressure.
