Photo-catalytic Properties of Nanotubes Synthesized using TiO2 Nanoparticles

  • Up to now, microstructure changes of photocatalysts have been studied to improve photocatalytic activity. Especially, to improve the adsorption of reactants and reactive sites, porous and fine crystal structures have received much attention because of their large specific surface area. In this study, $TiO_2$ nanotubes were synthesized by hydrothermal method using $TiO_2$ nanoparticles; nanotubes were evaluated by oxidized methylene blue reduction test. Using synthesized $TiO_2$ nanotubes, results of TEM showed that the $TiO_2$ nanoparticles were changed into folding sheets and nanotubes. XRD results showed that the peaks of the nanoparticles almost disappeared and only the rutile (110) and anatase (200) peaks were observed. Comparison of photocatalytic properties of nanoparticles and nanotube structures was performed by measuring the UV-vis absorbance with reducing oxidized methylene blue. As a result, the reduction rate of nanotubes was found to be $0.24{\mu}mol/s$, which was 2.6 times higher than the rate of reduction of nanoparticles.

  • 0.2 mo1% La doped BaTiO3 samples were prepared by a wet chemical process (Pechini process) and electrical conductivity were measured from annealing temperatures(800-110$0^{\circ}C$) to room temperature continuously. 2 probe I-V characteristics showed that Pt electrodes were non-ohmic below about 80$0^{\circ}C$ for Ladoped sample. I-V curves showed varistor behavior and breakdown voltages showed PTC-like behavior. AC complex impedance of 0.2 La and 0.05 Mn mo1% doped BaTiO3 samples with three different electrodes (electroless Ni, Pt, Ag electrodes) were measured with temperature variation. Complex impedance plots showed that the samples with electroless Ni electrodes have negligible electrode resistance. Samples with Ag or Pt paste electrodes showed large electrode resistance. PTC effect, which is defined as the ratio of maximum resistance to minimum resistance, was found to be less than 10 for 0.2 mo1% La doped dense sample however greater than 105 with codoping of 0.05 mo1% Mn and 0.2 mol% La.

  • Traveling-wave electrodes for the high-speed Ti:LiNbO$_{3}$ modulators are designed. For a solution to the problems of 1) phase-velocity mismatching between the optical wave and the Modulating M/W, 2) M/W electrode characteristic impedance mismateching, we assume devices with 1$\mu$m thick SiO$_{2}$ buffer layer between the electrode and the Ti:LiNbO$_{3}$ substrate. The electrode analyses are performed by the FEM using the second-order triangular elements. The optimum design parameters to satisfy the phase-velocity matching and the characteristic impedance matching are sought for. By use of the analyses' results, a Mach-Zehnder optical modulator with a CPW electrode is designed as an example. the band-width estimation is also illustrated.

  • (Na½Ln½) TiO₃(Ln = La, Pr, Nd, Sm)은 양의 온도계수(190 ∼ 480ppm/℃), 고유전율(99∼127)의 특성을 갖고 있다. 반면에 MgTiO₃는 음의 온도계수(-45ppm/℃), 저유전손실(110,000㎓)을 갖고 있다. 그래서 xMgTiO₃(1-x) (Na½Ln½) TiO₃의 유전특성에 관심을 갖게 되었고, 초고주파 대역에서의 유전특성을 측정하고 미세구조를 관찰하여, 몰비변화와 소결온도변화에 따른 경향성을 파악하였으며, 그 원인을 연구하였다. 그 결과 MgTiO₃와 (Na½Ln½) TiO₃는 구조적으로 새로운 고용체나 이차상을 형성하지 않는 혼합상을 이루고 있었다. 그리고 이들의 유전특성은 (Na½Ln½) TiO₃와 MgTiO₃의 중간 값을 나타냈고, logarithmic mixing rule로써 유전특성을 예측할 수 있다. 이중에서 온도에 안정한 조성은 Ln = La, Pr, Nd으로 치환되었을 경우 각각 x = 0.9, 0.87, 0.84이었다. 이때의 유전율은 22 ∼25, Qf값은 55000 ∼ 28000㎓를 나타내었다. 이로써 온도에 안정한 유전특성을 갖는 새로운 유전체 재료를 개발하였으며, 특히 Ln = La으로 치환되었을 경우 다른 조성에 비하여 유전특성이 좋을 뿐아니라, 소결온도 범위가 넓어 공정상의 잇점을 가지고 있다.

  • In this study, the phase transition behaviors of lead-free (Na1/2Bi1/2TiO3)(1-x)-(BaTiO3)x (NBT-BT) are investigated by using Brillouin spectroscopy. The elastic properties, sound velocity and absorption coefficient of NBT-BT are characterized as a function of temperature along different crystallographic axes. The temperature dependences of the elastic constants of NBT-BT near the morphotropic phase boundary are determined for the first time. The unpoled NBT-BT single crystals exhibits the typical relaxor behaviors, presenting broad acoustic and dielectric anomalies. The application of electric field induced discontinuous changes in the elastic properties at ~110℃, which indicates field-induced phase transition occurred. The electric field also changes the dielectric constant from more relaxor-like to ferroelectric-like dielectric behavior.

  • Li-incorporated mesoporous $TiO_2$ materials with various pore-sized istributions were synthesized by using triblockcopolymers via a sol-gel process in a queous solution. The properties of the se materials were characterized by HR-TEM, XRD, and BET analysis. All particles have spherical morphology with a diameterrange of $1-3{\mu}m$. The mesoporous $TiO_2$ materials calcined at $400^{\circ}C$ and their specific surface area, average pore size and crystallite sizes were 210 $m^2g^{-1}$, 6.4 nm and 8.8 nm respectively. The Li-incorporated mesoporous $TiO_2$ were tested for $CO_2$ adsorption and its adsorption capacity is 90mg/g. The Li-incorporated mesoporous $TiO_2$ ar eobserved to be thermally stable, recyclable and greens or bent for $CO_2$ capture. The effect of bimetallic $ZrLiTiO_2$ is also studied for $CO_2$ adsorption.

  • Dielectric and piezoelectric porperties of pseudoternary xPb(Al2/3W1/3)O3-(1-x)Pb(Zr0.52Ti0.48)O3 (x=1~10mol%) ceramic system have been investigated as a function of the amount of PAW[Pb(Al2/3W1/3)O3] and sintered from 110$0^{\circ}C$ to 120$0^{\circ}C$ for 1hr. As the amount of PAW increases, the c/a of tetragonal structure decreases. The grain size was reduced with increasing the amount of PAW addition. However, the density, dielectric constant and electromechanical coupling factor(kp) exhibited a maximum value at the amount of 5mol% PAW addition.

  • The $(Ba_xBi_{0.6-x}Sr_{0.4})TiO_3$[x=0.1, 0.2, 0.3] ceramics were prepared by conventional mixed oxide method The structural properties of the $(Ba_xBi_{0.6-x}Sr_{0.4})TiO_3$[x=0.1, 0.2, 0.3] ceramics with the sintering temperature($1200^{\circ}C,\;1250^{\circ}C,\;1300^{\circ}C$) were investigated by XRD, SEM, EDS. Increasing the sintering temperature, the intensity of the $Ba_{0.5}Sr_{0.5}TiO_3$ (100), (110), (111), (200), (310) peaks and $SrBi_4Ti_4O_{15}$ (319), (040) peaks were increased. The gram of the $(Bi_{0.2}Ba_{0.4}Sr_{0.4})TiO_3$ ceramics sintered at $1250^{\circ}C$ were fine and uniform. Increasing the sintering temperature. the average gram size of the $(Bi_{0.2}Ba_{0.4}Sr_{0.4})TiO_3$ ceramics were decreased. The density of $(Bi_{0.1}Ba_{0.5}Sr_{0.4})TiO_3$ ceramics sintered at $1250^{\circ}C$ was 5.4524 [$g/cm^2$].

해수전해질을 이용한 양극산화 $TiO_2$ 제조; 광전기화학적 수소제조 및 Cr(VI) 환원처리 연구 (Anodization of $TiO_2$ with Seawater Electrolyte; Evaluation of Hydrogen Production in PEG and Photocatalytic Cr(VI) Reduction)

  • The present works were performed that titanium foil was anodized in various dilution ratios of seawater and distilled water with 10V external voltage applied, then annealed at $450^{\circ}C$ to obtain $TiO_2$ on the Ti substrate. The prepared samples were characterized by instruments (XRD, SEM, and photocurrent) and used to investigate rate of hydrogen production in photoelectrochemical cell as well as Cr(VI) reduction. As the results of experiments, the anodized $TiO_2$ in seawater electrolytes, which are ranged from 15 to 50 times dilution of seawater, was showed a relatively higher hydrogen production (ca. 97~110 umol/hr-$cm^2$) and Cr(VI) reduction (ca. 95% reduction).

반응결합 강화 알루미나세라믹스의 제조에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Fabrication of Reinforced Reaction Bonded Alumina Ceramics)

  • The reaction bonded alumina ceramics with reinforced particles which have low shrinkage were pro-duced by blending of SiC or TiC or ZrO2 powders to the mixture of Al metal and Al2O3 powder. The powd-ers were attrition milled isostantically pressed and preheated tio 110$0^{\circ}C$ with a heating rate of $1.5^{\circ}C$/min The specimens were then sintered at the temperature range 1500 to 1$600^{\circ}C$ for 5 hours with a heating rate of 5$^{\circ}C$/min. The specimens showed 5-9% weight gain and 2-9% dimensional expansion through the complete oxidation of Al after preheating up to 11--$^{\circ}C$ the overall dimensional change of the specimens after the reaction sintering at 1500-1$600^{\circ}C$ was 6-12% The maximum densities were 92% theoretical. The fine grain-ed(average grain size :0.4 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$) microstructure were observed in the specimen with ZrO2 and SiC. But the microstructure of specimen with TiC was relatively coarse.(average grain size : 2.1 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$) The mullite phase was formed by the reaction of Al2O3 and SiO2 in a specimen with SiC. In the TiC contained specimen TiC was oxidized into TiO2 and finally reacted with Al2O3 to form Al2TiO5 during sintering.
