Synthesis of $Nd_{2x}Cd_{2-3x}SiO_4$ ($0.01{\leq}x{\leq}0.21$) [S1-S3: x=0.01, 0.11 and 0.21] solid solutions were prepared by solgel method. Powder x-ray diffraction (XRD) results show monoclinic unit cell with space group P21/m. The average crystallite sizes are found to be 20 to 45 nm. The Scanning Electron Microcopy (SEM) images show morphology of the sample is in globular nature. The energy dispersive analysis of x-rays (EDX) and X-ray mapping results confirmed that all the constituent elements of the composites were present and that were distributed in uniformly. The optical absorption band at ~750 nm was due to $^4I_{9/2}{\rightarrow}^4F_{7/2}+^4S_{3/2}$ transition optically active $Nd^{3+}$ ions. Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) lineshapes of S1-S3 at 10, 40, 77 and 300 K show a broad unresolved isotropic lineshapes were observed due to rapid spin lattice relaxation of $Nd^{3+}$.

(Ba,Sr)TiO$_{4}$ (BST) thin films on Pt/Ti/SiO$_{2}$/Si substrates were deposited by a sol-gel method and the etch characteristics of BST thin films have been investigated as a function of gas mixing ratio. The maximum etch rate of the BST films was 440 $AA$/min under such conditions as: CF$_{4}$(CF$_{4}$+Ar) of 0.2, RF-power of 700 W, DC-bias voltage of -200 V, pressure of 15 mTorr and substrate temperature of 30 $^{circ}C$. The selectivities of BST to Pt, SiO$_{2}$ and PR were 0.38, 0.25 and 0.09, respectively. In the XPS (X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy) analysis, Barium (Ba) and Strontium (Sr) component in BST thin films formed low volatile compounds such as BaFx, SrFx, which are forms by the chemical reaction with F atoms and is removed by Ar ion bombardment. Titanium (Ti) is removed by chemical reaction such as TiF with ease. The result of secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) analysis confirmed the existence of the BaFx, SrFK, TiFx.
Purpose: Rigid gas permeable (RGP) contact lenses, based on fluorosilicone acrylate, were treated with plasma in air. Methods: The chemical compositions were analyzed by using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), the surface morphology and roughness of RGP contact lenses were observed by using atomic force microscopy (AFM), and the wettability changes were estimated by wetting angle measurement. Results: As the contact lenses were treated by the plasma, the F contents decreased significantly, and the O and Si contents increased on the surface. The number of oxygen-containing hydrophilic radicals (C-O and Si-O) increased greatly, the hydrophobic surface decreased, and the wetting angle increased. But the C-O bonds created with exchange of the fluorine did not increase a wettability. The surface compositions were not remarkably changed for the 6 months after plasma treatment, but the wetting angle increased again. Conclusions: It was considered that the improved wettability of the RGP contact lenses of high fluorine content after plasma treatment was affected by the activation of surface, the increase of Si-O, and the decrease of hydrophobic surface.

Impurity contamination induced by $CF_4\;and\;HBr/Cl_2/O_2$ plasma etching on Si surface was examined by using surface spectroscopes. XPS(x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy) surface analysis showed that F of 0.4 at % exists in the surface layer in the form of Si-F bonding but Br and Cl are below the detection limit $(0.1{\sim}1.0%)$ of the spectroscope. Static-SIMS(secondary ion mass spectrometry) surface analysis showed that the etched Si surface was contaminated with etching gas elements such as H, F, Cl and Br, and they existed to the depth of about $20{\sim}40nm$. The etched Si surface was treated with three different methods that were HF dip, thermal oxidation followed by HF dip and oxygen-plasma oxidation followed by HF dip. They showed an effect in reducing the impurity contamination and the oxygen-plasma oxidation followed by HF dipping method appears to be a little bit more effective.
X-ray Fluorescence Spectrographic method has been applied for the rapid determination of main components, such as $SiO_2$, $Al_2O_3$, $Fe_2O_3$, CaO, MgO and $K_2O$ in Silicate Minerals. In this method, Boric Acid was used as a binder after fusion with Lithium Tetraborate in the briquet-making process. The Lithium Flubride, Ammonium di-Hydrogen Phosphate and Ethylene Diamine d-Tartrate crystals were used with Scintillation counter and Gas Flow counter as the detectors. Several influences on this method were discussed, including the particle size of samples and reducing of the matrix effects by dilution with Boric Acid and addition of Lanthanum Oxide with the diluent. In order to test the reproducibility of this method described above, the determination of the same kind of samples were carried out repeatedly, and the results obtained were presented in the table. Calibration curves for each element were presented, and the application of the method was tested with International Rock Standard T-Ⅰ. All the results obtained by X-Ray Fluorescence Spectrographic method were compared with the results by conventional chemical method.
We studied the epitaxial growth of GaAs/GaAs and GaAs/Si by Laser CVD with 193nm ArF pulsed excimer laser. The source gases of TMGa and AsC13 or TMGa-TMAs adducts are mixed with H2, and photolyzed above the substrate which is heated up to around 300$^{\circ}C$. Then the photolyzed atoms are deposited on the silicon or GaAs substrate. The deposited films are analyzed with ESKA depth profiling and X-ray differaction method, which shows that the films on Si and GaAs are stoichiometric and crystalized at such a low temperature. We show a clear evidence for the epitaxial growth of GaAs on Si or GaAs on GaAs at low temperature by excimer laser CVD.

Nonvolatile semiconductor memory devices with reoxidized nitrided oxide(RONO) gate dielectrics were fabricated, and nitrogen distribution and bonding species which contribute to memory characteristics were analyzed. Also, memory characteristics of devices depending on the anneal temperatures were investigated. The devices were fabricated by retrograde twin well CMOS processes with $0.35{\mu}m$ Nonvolatile semiconductor memory devices with reoxidized nitrided oxide(RONO) gate dielectric were fabricated, and nitrogen distribution and bonding species which contributing memory characteristics were analyzed. Also, memory characteristics of devices according to anneal temperatures were investigated. The devices were fabricated by $0.35{\mu}m$ retrograde twin well CMOS processes. The processes could be simple by in-situ process of nitridation anneal and reoxidation. The nitrogen distribution and bonding state of gate dielectric were investigated by Dynamic Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry(D-SIMS), Time-of-Flight Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry(ToF-SIMS), and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy(XPS). Nitrogen concentrations are proportional to nitridation anneal temperatures and the more time was required to form the same reoxidized layer thickness. ToF-SIMS results show that SiON species are detected at the initial oxide interface and $Si_{2}NO$ species near the new $Si-SiO_{2}$ interface that formed after reoxidation. As the anneal temperatures increased, the device showed worse retention and degradation properties. These could be said that nitrogen concentration near initial interface is limited to a certain quantity, so excess nitrogen are redistributed near the $Si-SiO_{2}$ interface and contributed to electron trap generation.
The microstructure and electrical propetries were investigated for polycrystalline $Ba^{1-x}Sr_xTiO_3$(BST) thin films deposited on Pt/Ti/$SiO_2$(PTSS) and Pt/MgO(PM) substrates by metalorganic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD). BST films on PTSS have coulmnar and porous structures, while on PM have an equiaxied and dense structure. The dielectric constant and a dissipation factor of BST films on PTSS and 20 fC/$\mu \textrm{cm}^3$ on PTSS and 12fC/$\mu \textrm{cm}^2$ on PM was obtained at an applied electric field of 0.06 MV/cm. Leakage current density of BST films on PM was smaller than that on PTSS. The leakage current density level was about $8\times10^{-8}A/\textrm{cm}^2$ at 0.04MV/cm.
This study has been made to find out the possibilty of successfully using the following $K_2O$ recommended equation $K_2O\;kg/10a=(Ko/\sqrt{Ca+Mg}-Ks/\sqrt{Ca+Mg})sqrt{Ca+Mg}.\;47.\;B\;D$. where $Ko/sqrt{Ca+Mg}=0.03518+0.0007658\;Sio_2/O.M$. $K_Ssqrt{Ca+Mg}$=Exchangeable K me/100g/$\sqrt{Total\;soluble(Ca+Mg)me/100g\;in\;Soil}$ B. D. =Bulk density of top soil, when the dose of Nitrogen for rice is estimated from the following equation: $N\;kg/10a=(4.2+0.096\;SiO_2/O.M).F$ where $F=0.907+0.263x-0.013x^2$$SiO_2/O.M=(available\;SiO_2=ppm)/(organic\;matter\;%)$in soil For this. two field experiments. one in sandy and the other in clay paddy soil. have been conducted using 3 levels of wollastonite (0, 500, 100kg/10a) as main treatments; 3 levels of $K_2O$ application were used as sub-plots. These were as follows : (1) 8kg of $K_2O$/10a regardless of the K activity-$K/\sqrt{Ca+Mg}$; (2) kg of $K_2O$/10a estimated from the above equation. and (3) same as (2) above plus additional 30% of $K_2O$. The dose of N kg/ 10a was determined from the above equation based on the value of $SiO_2$/O.M. ratio in each treatment. There were three replications. The leading variety of rice in Chung Chong Nam Do area. Akibare (introduced from Japan) was used. The data obtained. through soil and plant analysis and growth and yield observations. have been throughly examined to attain the following summarized conclusions. 1. The nitrogen dose. estimated from the above equation. was in excess for optimum growth of the rice variety Akibare; indicating the necessity of modification onthe value of "F" or the constants in the equation. The concept of using $SiO_2$/O.M. in the equation was shown to be applicable. 2. The dose of potash. estimated from the respective equation given above. also was in excess of the rice requirements indicating the necessity of minor change in the estimation of $Ko/\sqrt{Ca+Mg}$ value and some great modification in the calculation of $Ks/\sqrt{Ca+Mg}$ value for the equation; however the concept of using $K/\sqrt{Ca+Mg}$ as a basis of $K_2O$ recommendation was shown to be quite reasonable. 3. It was found. from the correlation study using the data of paddy yield and amount of $K_2O$ absorbed by rice plants that the substitution of the value of $Ks/\sqrt{Ca+Mg}$ in the equation for the vaule $Ks/\sqrt{Ca+Mg}=0.037+0.78K\;me/100g$ soil was much more applicable than using the value calculated from the data of soil and wollastonite analysis.

We have carried out the fabrications of a barrier layer on a polyethersulfon (PES) film and organic light emitting diode (OLED) based on a plastic substrate by means of atomic layer deposition (ALD). Simultaneous deposition of 30 nm $AlO_x$ film on both sides of the PES film gave a water vapor transition rate (WVTR) of $0.062 g/m^2/day (@38^{\circ}C,\;100%\;R.H.)$. Further, the double layer of 200 nm $SiN_x$ film deposited by plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) and 20 nm $AlO_x$ film by ALD resulted in a WVTR value lower than the detection limit of MOCON. We have investigated the OLED encapsulation performance of the double layer using the OLED structure of ITO / MTDATA (20 nm) / NPD (40 nm) / AlQ (60 nm) / LiF (1 nm) / Al (75 nm) on a plastic substrate. The preliminary life time to reach 91% of the initial luminance $(1300 cd/m^2)$ was 260 hours for the OLED encapsulated with 100 nm of PECVD-deposited $SiN_x$ and 30 nm of ALD-deposited $AlO_x$.
