Recently, the use of lithium ion battery(LIB) has increased. As a result, the price of lithium and the amount spent lithium on ion battery has increased. For this reason, research on recycling lithium in waste LIBs has been conducted1). In this study, the effect of roasting for the selective lithium leaching from the spent LIBs is studied. Chemical transformation is required for selective lithium leaching in NCM LiNixCoyMnzO2) of the spent LIBs. The carbon in the waste EV cell powder reacts with the oxygen of the oxide at high temperature. After roasting at 550 ~ 850 ℃ in the Air/N2 atmosphere, the chemical transformation is analysed by XRD. The heat treated powders are leached at a ratio of 1:10 in D.I water for ICP analysis. As a result of XRD analysis, Li2CO3 peak is observed at 700 ℃. After the heat treatment at 850 ℃, a peak of Li2O was confirmed because Li2CO3 is decomposed into Li2O and CO2 over 723 ℃. The produced Li2O reacted with Al at high temperature to form LiAlO2, which does not leach in D.I water, leading to a decrease in lithium leaching ratio. As a result of lithium leaching in water after heat treatment, lithium leaching ratio was the highest after heat treatment at 700 ℃. After the solid-liquid separation, over 45 % of lithium leaching was confirmed by ICP analysis. After evaporation of the leached solution, peak of Li2CO3 was detected by XRD.

To characterize chemically a spent pressurized water reactor (PWR) fuel, an analytical method for trace amounts of tritium ($^3H$) in it has been established. Considering the effective management of radioactive wastes generated through the whole experimental process and the radiological safety for analysts, a separation condition under which $^{14}C$ and $^3H$ can be sequentially recovered from a single fuel sample was optimized using simulated spent PWR fuel dissolved solutions. $^{14}CO_2$ evolved during dissolution of the spent PWR fuels with nitric acid was trapped in an aliquot of 1.5 M NaOH. $^{129}I_2$ which was volatilized along with $^{14}CO_2$ was removed using a silver nitrate-impregnated silica gel absorbent. $^3H$ remaining in the fuel dissolved solution as $^3H_2O$ was selectively recovered by distillation. Its recovery yield was 97.9% with a relative standard deviation of 0.9% (n=3). $^3H$ in a spent PWR fuel with burnup value of 37,000 MWd/MtU was analyzed, reliability of this analytical method being evaluated by standard addition method.
The root of Zingiber officinale R. was extracted with 80% aqueous MeOH, and the concentrated extract was fractionated with EtOAc, n-BuOH and water phases. The EtOAc fraction exhibited most potent antioxidant activity among them, and two active compounds were isolated by activity-guided separation using repetitive silica gel column chromatography. On the bases of spectral data and the chemical characteristics, the structure of the compounds were determined as 6-shogaol and 12-shogaol, respectively. The $EC_{50}$ values of them were evaluated as 26.4 ${\mu}M$ and 22.5 ${\mu}M$, respectively, where these values were higher than the commercial antioxidants, such as, BHA, BHT and ${\alpha}-tocopherol$.

[99mTc]Tc-Hexamethylpropylene amine oxime (HMPAO) is currently used as a regional cerebral blood flow imaging agent for single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT). The HMPAO ligand exists in two isomeric forms: d,l and meso showing different properties in vivo. Later studies indicated that brain uptake patterns of 99mTc-complexes formed from separated enantiomers differed. Separation of enantiomers is difficult by fractional crystallizations method. Usually, the substance is obtained in low chemical yield in a time-consuming procedure. Furthermore, the final product still contains some impurity. So we have developed new efficient route for synthesis of R,R- and S,S-HMPAO enantiomeric compounds in 6-steps. Nucleophilic substitution (SN2) reactions of 2,2-dimethylpropane-1,3-diamine either with S- (1a) or R-methyl2-chloropropanoate (1b) were performed to produce compounds R,R- (2a) or S,S-isomer (2b) derivatives protected with benzylchloroformate (Cbz), respectively. And then Weinreb amide and methylation reaction using Grignard reagent, oxime formation with ketone group and deprotectiion of Cbz group by hydrogenolysis gave S,S- (7a) or R,R-HMPAO (7b), respectively. Entaniomeric compounds were synthesied with high yield and purity without any undesired product. The 7a or 7b kits containing 10 ㎍ SnCl2-2H2O were labeled with 99mTc with high radiolabeling yield (90%).
To enhance the transport properties of gas separation membrane, we prepared 6FDA-6FpDA based polyimide membrane with PMMA-graft-silica nanoparticles. The silica was grafted PMMA which is miscible with 6FDA-based polyimide after surface treatment by 3-methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane ($\gamma$-MPS). The untreated silica/6FDA-6FpDA membrane showed greater permeability and less selectivity than PMMA-g-silica/6FDA-6FpDA due to its low dispersion. The transport properties of PMMA-g-silica/6FDA-GFpDA membrane were measured as a function of filler concentration. These membranes were evaluated using pure gases (He, $O_2$, $N_2$, $CO_2$). The increase in permeation was attributed to changes in the free volume distribution until 1 wt%. After 1 wt%, the permeability was decreased by excess silica which decreased effective area in polymer matrix. The selectivity was decreased with increasing permeability on the whole. However, the selectivity of $CO_2$ showed more enhance value.

GC/MS analysis of catecholamines (CAs) in biological sample may produce poor reproducible quantitaion when chemical derivatization is used as the technique to form a volatile derivative. Significant quantities of the side products can be formed from CAs with primary amine during the derivatization reaction under un-optimized conditions. We have tested various chemical derivatization techniques in an attempt to find an optimum derivatization method that will reduce side product formation, enable to separate several catecholamine derivatives in GC chromatogram, and obtain significant improvement of detection sensitivity in GC/MS analysis. Whereas several derivatization techniques such as trimethylsilylation (TMS), trifluoroacylation (TFA), and two step derivatization methods were active, selective derivatization to form O-TMS, N-heptafluorobutylacyl (HFBA) derivative using N-methyl-N-(trimethylsilyl)-trifluoroacetamide (MSTFA) and N-methyl-bis(heptafluorobutyramide) (MBHFBA) reagents was found to be the most effective method. Moreover, this derivative formed by selective derivatization could provide sufficient sensitivity and peak separation as well as produce higher mass ion as base peak to use selected ion in SIM mode. Calibration curves based on the use of an isotopically labeled internal standard show good linearity over the range assayed, 1 ~ 5000 ng/mL, with correlation coefficients of > 0.996. The detection limits of the method ranged from 0.2 to 5.0 ppb for the different CAs studied. The developed method will be applied to the analysis of various CAs in biological sample, combined with appropriate sample pretreatment.
Hydrolysate which inhibit the Angiotensin I-converting enzyme (ACE) was prepared from mackerel muscle by pretense. The ACE inhibitory activity of mackerel muscle hvdrolysate (MMH) was $967 {\mu}g of IC_(50)$. ACE inhibitory peptides were isolated by ultrafiltration, gel permeation column chromatography (GPC), reversed phase column chromatography(RPC), reversed phasehigh performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC), and gel permeation high performance liquid chromatography (GP-HPLC) from the MMH. The amino acid sequence of the ACE inhibitory peptides was Tyr-Val-Ala. The $IC_(50)$ of this peptide for ACE from rabbit lung was $1.4 {\mu}M$.

Liquid Chromatographic behavior of Pd(II) in Isonitosoethylacetoacetate imine IEAA-NR: R=H, CH3, C2H5, n-C3H7, n-C4H9, C6H5-CH2) Chelates were investigated by reversed phase high performance 1iquid chromatography on Micropak MCH-5 Column using Methanol /water as mobile phase. The optimum condition for the separation of Pd-Isonitrosoethylacetoacetate imine chelates were examined with respect to the flow rate, mobile phase strength. It was found that Pd(IEAA-NR)2 chelates were eluted in an acceptable range of the capacity factor value (0 $\leq$ log k' $\leq$ 1), The dependence of the logarithm of capacity factor(k') on the volume fraction of water in mixture with in the binary mobile phase was examined. Also, the dependence of k'on the liquid-liquid extraction distribution constant in methanol-water / n-alkane extraction system was on system was invert tigated for Pd(IEAA-NR)2. Both kinds of dependence are linear, which suggests that the retention of the electroneutral metal chelates be largely due to the solvophobic effect.
Considering the characteristics of a filtration bio-reactor equipped with a mesh filter module which can effectively maintain high concentration of biomass and enhanced solid-liquid separation performance, the hybrid process of filtration bio-reactor combined with coagulation was investigated to get improved filtration characteristics as well as water quality in this work. Two bio-reactors (Run-1 & Run-2) were operated under the following conditions: working volume of 25 L, continuous loading of a synthetic wastewater (BOD: 200 mg/L, T-N: 50 mg/L, T-P: 5 mg/L), where an appropriate amount of alum ($Al_2(SO_4)_3{\cdot}18H_2O$) was added once a day into the reactor (Run-2). In the system without using a alum (Run-1), the clogging of mesh filter module was observed two times through 85 days of whole operation. Meanwhile, the filter module did not clog even at higher MLSS concentration (6,000~12,000 mg/L) and the stable filtration (0.7 mid) was continued in the case of using a alum. Due to the stable formation of cake layers, BOD and SS were shown below 6 and 3 mg/L, respectively. T-P and pH of the effluent were changed because of the intermittent addition of the alum. In the case of Al/P=2.5, the average T-P removal efficiency per day was 85.2% and the average T-P concentration of the effluent was 0.3 mg/L. However, the removal efficiency of phosphate was influenced by pH in the reactor.

A solvent sublation using salphen as a ligand was studied and applied for the determination of trace Ni(II), Co(II) and Cu(II) in water samples. The fundamental study was investigated by a solvent extraction process because the solvent sublation was done by extracting the floated analytes into an organic solvent from the aqueous solution. The salphen complexes of Ni(II), Co(II) and Cu(II) ions were formed in an alkaline solution of more than pH 8 and then they were extracted into m-xylene. It was known that the each metallic ion formed 1 : 1 complex with the salphen and the logarithmic values of extraction constants for the complexes were 3.3 5.1 as an average value. Based on the preliminary study, the procedure was fixed for the separation and concentration of the analytes in samples. Various conditions such as the pH of solutions, the influence of $NaClO_4$, the bubbling rate and time of $N_2$ gas, and the type of organic solvent were optimized. The metal-salphen complexes could be extracted into m-xylene from the solution of more than pH 8, but the pH could be shifted to acidic solution of pH 6 by the addition of $NaClO_4$. In addition, the solvent sublation efficiency of the analytes was increased by adding $NaClO_4$. The recovery of 97-115% was obtained in the spiked samples in which given amounts of 0.3 mg/L Ni(II), 0.8 mg/L Co(II) and 0.04 mg/L Cu(II) were added.
