Digital radiographic systems allow the implementation of a fully digital picture archiving and communication system (PACS), and provide the greater dynamic range of digital detectors with possible reduction of X-ray exposure to the patient. This article reviewed the basic physical principles of digital radiographic imaging system in dental clinics generally. Digital radiography can be divided into computed radiography (CR) and direct radiography (DR). CR systems acquire digital images using phosphor storage plates (PSP) with a separate image readout process. On the other hand, DR systems convert X-rays into electrical charges by means of a direct readout process. DR systems can be further divided into direct and indirect conversion systems depending on the type of X-ray conversion. While a direct conversion requires a photoconductor that converts X-ray photons into electrical charges directly, in an indirect conversion, lightsensitive sensors such as CCD or a flat-panel detector convert visible light, proportional to the incident X-ray energy by a scintillator, into electrical charges. Indirect conversion sensors using CCD or CMOS without lens-coupling are used in intraoral radiography. CR system using PSP is mainly used in extraoral radiographic system and a linear array CCD or CR sensors, in panoramic system. Currently, the digital radiographic system is an important subject in the dental field. Most studies reported that no significant difference in diagnostic performance was found between the digital and conventional systems. To accept advances in technology and utilize benefits provided by the systems, the continuous feedback between doctors and manufacturers is essential.

Recently, fine dust in atmosphere have been considerably issued as a harmful element for human. Nitrogen oxide ($NO_x$) exhausted from diesel engines and power plants has been disclosed as a main source of secondary production of fine dust. In order to prevent exhausting these nitrogenous compounds into atmosphere, a treatment system with selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalyst with ammonia as a reductant has been used in various industries. Urea solution has been widely studied to supply ammonia into a SCR catalytic reactor, safely. However, the conversion of urea solution to ammonia has several challenges, especially on a slow conversion velocity. In the present study, a fast urea conversion system including a plasma burner was suggested and designed to evaluate the performances of urea conversion and initial operation time. A designed lab-scale facility has a plasma burner, urea nozzle, mixer, and SCR catalyst which is for hydrolysis of isocyane. Flow rate of methane that is a fuel of the plasma burner was varied to control temperatures in the urea conversion facility. From experimental results, it is found that urea can be converted into ammonia using high temperature condition of above $400^{\circ}C$. In the designed test facility, it is found that ammonia can be produced within 1 min from urea injection and the result shows prospect commercialization of proposed technology in the SCR facilities.

The NOx conversion properties of Mn-Cu-$TiO_2$ and $V_2O_5$/$TiO_2$ catalysts were studied for the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NOx with ammonia. The performance of the catalysts was investigated in terms of their $NOx$ conversion activity as a function of the reaction temperature and space velocity. The activity of the Mn-Cu-$TiO_2$ catalyst decreased with increasing reaction temperature and space velocity. However, the activity of the $V_2O_5$/$TiO_2$ catalyst increased with increasing reaction temperature. High activity of the Mn-Cu-$TiO_2$ catalyst was observed at temperatures below $200^{\circ}C$. H2-TPR and XPS analyses were conducted to explain these results. It was found that the activity of the Mn-Cu-$TiO_2$ catalyst was influenced by the thermal shock caused by the change of the initial reaction temperature, whereas the $V_2O_5$/$TiO_2$ catalyst was not affected by the initial reaction temperature. In the case of catalyst C, the $NO_x$ conversion efficiency decreased with increasing space velocity. The decrease in the $NO_x$ conversion efficiency with increasing space velocity was much less for catalyst D than for catalyst C.

The steady-state kinetics of the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of $NO_X$ with $NH_3$ has been investigated over a commercial ${V_2}{O_5}/TiO_2$ catalyst. In order to account for the influence of transport effects the kinetics are coupled with a fully transient two-phase 1D+1D monolith channel model. The Langmuir-Hinshelwood (L-H) mechanism is adopted to describe the steady-state kinetic behavior of the ${V_2}{O_5}/TiO_2$ catalyst. The reaction rate expressions are based on previously reported papers and are modified to fit the experimental data. The steady-state chemical reaction scheme used in the present mathematical model has been validated extensively with experimental data of selective $NO_X$ reduction efficiency for a wide range of inlet conditions such as space velocity, oxygen concentrations, water concentration, and $NO_2/NO$ ratio. The parametric investigations are performed to examine how the $NH_3$ slip from a SCR $DeNO_X$ catalyst and the conversion of $NO_X$ are affected by the reaction temperature, $NH_3/NO_X$ feed ratio, and space velocity for feed gas compositions with $NO_2/NO_X$ ratios of 0 and 0.5.

Efficient simultaneous reduction conditions for $NO_x$ and $NH_3$-slip was investigated in SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) process with load variation by applying dual catalysts (SCR catalyst, $NH_3$ decomposition catalyst) system. $N_2O$ formation characteristics were analyzed to look into possible undesirable reaction pathways. In the experiments of catalyst characteristics, various operational variables were tested for the combined catalytic system, such as $NH_3/NO_x$ ratio, temperature, oxygen concentration and $H_2O$. The reaction characteristics of $NO_x$, $NH_3$ and $N_2O$ were analyzed and optimal conditions could be evaluated for the combustion facility with varied load. In terms of $NO_x/NH_3$ simultaneous reduction and $N_2O$ formation suppression, optimal condition was considered NSR 1.2 and temperature $300^{\circ}C$. At this operational condition, $NO_x$ conversion was 98%, $NH_3$ reduction efficiency was 95%, generated $N_2O$ concentration 9.5 ppm with inlet $NO_x$ concentration of 100 ppm. In $NH_3-SCR$ process with $NH_3$ decomposition catalyst, $NO_x$ and $NH_3$ can be considered to be reduced simultaneously at limited conditions. The results of this study may be utilized as basic data at facilities requiring simultaneous $NO_x$ and $NH_3$ reduction for facilities with load variation.

A study on the formation of particulate nitrate$(NO_3^-)$ and gaseous nitrate$(HNO_3)$ in the atmosphere was carried out in Seoul from Oct 8 to 11 1991. To collect $NO_3^-$ and $HNO_3$ in the ambient air, dual filter pack sampler (47mm$\phi$) was used. In the dual filter pack sampler, the first filter was Teflon filter (poresize 1$\mum$) for collection of $NO_3^-$ and the second filter was Nylon filter (poresize 0.45 $\mum$) for $HNO_3$. Particulate nitrate$(NO_3^-)$ and Sulfate ions were analysed by Ion chromatography. $HNO_3$ concentration was higher in the day time $(9.93\mug/m^3)$ than the night time$(3.50\mug/m^3)$, and Particulate nitrate$(NO_3^-)$ concentration was higher in the night time and early morning$(6.21\mug/m^3)$ than the day time$(4.31\mug/m^3)$. The conversion rate of $NO_x$ to total nitrate$(NO_3^-, HNO_3)$ was 7.57%/hr in the day time and 4.79%/hr in the night time, and total average conversion rate was 5.60%/hr.

$SiO_x$ nanoparticles were granulated, and their microstructures and effects on electrochemical behaviors were investigated. In spite of the promising electrochemical performance of $SiO_x$, nanoparticles have limitations such as high surface area, low density, and difficulty in handling during slurry processing. Granulation can be one solution. In this study, pelletizing and annealing were conducted to create particles with sizes of several decades of micron. Decrease in surface area directly influences the initial charge and discharge process when granules are applied as anode materials for Li-ion batteries. Lower surface area is key to decreasing the amount of irreversible phase-formation, such as $Li_2Si_2O_5$, $Li_2SiO_3$ and $Li_4SiO_4$, as well as forming the solid electrolyte interface. Additionally, aggregation of nanoparticles is required to obtain further enhancement of the electrochemical behavior due to restrictions that there be no $Li_4SiO_4$-related reaction during the first discharge process.

The aim of this study is to develop an integrated urea-SCR catalytic filter system for reducing soot and $NO_X$ emissions simultaneously in diesel engines. In this study, the characteristics of exhaust emissions relative to reactive activation temperature under four kinds of engine loads are experimentally investigated by using a four-cycle, four-cylinder, direct injection type, water-cooled turbo intercooler ECU common-rail diesel engine with the integrated urea-SCR $MnO_2-V_2O_5-WO_3/TiO_2/SiC$ catalytic filter system operating at three kinds of engine speeds. The urea-SCR reactor is used to reduce $NO_X$ emissions, and the catalytic filter system is used to reduce soot emissions. The reactive activation temperature is very important for reacting a reducing agent with exhaust emissions. The reactive activation temperatures in this experiment is applied to 523, 573 and 623 K. The fuel is sprayed by the pilot and main injections at the variable injection timing between BTDC $15^{\circ}$ and ATDC $1^{\circ}$ according to experimental conditions. It is found that the $NO_X$ conversion rate is the highest as 83.9% at the reactive activation temperature of 523 K in all experimental conditions of engine speed and load, and the soot emissions shown by the average reduction rate of approximately 93.3% are almost decreased below 0.6% in all experimental conditions regardless of reactive activation temperatures. Also, the THC and CO emissions by oxidation reaction of Mn, V and Ti are shown in the average reduction rates of 70.3% and 38% regardless of all experimental conditions.

Various modified SCR catalysts were prepared and tested to improve the strength of catalysts for use under severe conditions. The SCR catalysts were modified with a binder and dispersion agent, and tested at the fixed bed reactor. FT-IR and $H_2$-TPR were used to analyze the degree of hydrogen use and ammonia adsorption by the modified catalysts. In the case of the SCR catalysts coated with 2.3g of the binder, 4.7g of ethanol, and 0.1g of dispersion agent, the strength of catalyst was increased by approximately 12%. On the other hand, despite the enhancement of strength, the activities of the SCR catalysts were decreased by 2-10%. When the mixed solution composed of binder, dispersion agent and $SiO_2$ solution was precipitated on the catalyst, the $NO_x$ conversion of the catalyst was decreased slightly. The Bronsted acid site and Lewis acid site worked as the activators for the SCR reaction, and were decreased by $SiO_2$.
Two catalyst systems with different content of precious metal coated on DOC are carefully tested in a diesel engine to investigate the emission characteristics of $NO_2$. Three types of experiment methods ($NO_2$ conversion test, ETC mode test, and BPT test) are applied to compare the performance of the two catalyst systems. All the experimental results consistently indicate that it is possible to satisfy $NO_x$ regulation by properly lowering the content of precious metal without the loss of PM removal performance.
