A Study on Synthesis of High Purity $\beta$-SiC Fine Particle from Ethylsilicate(I) -Reaction Conditon, Yeild and Properties of $\beta$-SiC- (Ethyl Silicate를 고순도 $\beta$-SiC미분말 합성에 관한 연구(I) 반응조건과 $\beta$-SiC의 생성율 및 특성)

  • In order to obtain the high purity $\beta$-SiC powder that possesses the excellent sinterability and is close to the spherical shape, the carbon black was mixed into the composition of Si(OC2H5)4-H2O-NH3-C2H5OH which the monodispersed spherical fine particles is formed the hydrolysis of Ethylsilicate and the mixture was carbonized under an argon atmosphere. Particle shpae, size and the yield of $\beta$-SiC powder were investigated according to the molar ratio of carbon/alkoxide and variations of reaction temperature and reaction time. The results of this study are as follow ; 1) The yield of $\beta$-SiC gained from the reaction for one hour at 150$0^{\circ}C$ almost got near 100% and the particle size of $\beta$-SiC from the reaction for 15 hrs at 150$0^{\circ}C$ was 0.2${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ on the average and close to the spherical shape agglomerate state. 2) When the molar ratio carbon/alkoxide is over 3.1 and the reaction occurs at 145$0^{\circ}C$ for 5hrs, the carbon content has not an effect on the kind of crystal of product.

Hydrothermal Synthesis and Structural Characterization of x mol% Calcia-Stabilized ZrO2 Nanopowders (x mol% 칼시아-안정화 지르코니아 나노분말의 수열합성 및 구조적 특성평가)

  • Pure zirconia and $x$ mol% calcia partially stabilized zirconia ($x$ = 1.5, 3, and 8) nanopowders were synthesized by hydrothermal method with various reaction temperatures for 24 hrs. The precipitated precursor of pure zirconia and $x$ mol% calcia doped zirconia was prepared by adding $NH_4OH$ to starting solutions; resulting sample was then put into an autoclave reactor. The optimal experimental conditions, such as reaction temperatures and times and amounts of stabilizer CaO, were carefully studied. The synthesized $ZrO_2$ and $x$ mol% CaO-$ZrO_2$ ($x$ = 1.5, 3, and 8) powders were characterized by XRD, SEM, TG-DTA, and Raman spectroscopy. When the hydrothermal temperature was as low as $160^{\circ}C$, pure $ZrO_2$ and $x$ mol% CaO-$ZrO_2$ ($x$ = 1.5 and 3) powders were identified as a mixture of monoclinic and tetragonal phases. However, a stable tetragonal phase of zirconia was observed in the 8 mol% calcia doped zirconia nanopowder at hydrothermal temperature above $160^{\circ}C$. To observe the phase transition, the 3 mol% CaO-$ZrO_2$ and 8 mol% CaO-$ZrO_2$ nanopowders were heat treated from 600 to $1000^{\circ}C$ for 2h. The 3 mol% CaO-$ZrO_2$ heat treated at above $1000^{\circ}C$ was found to undergo a complete phase transition from mixture phase to monoclinic phase. However, the 8 mol% calcia doped zirconia appeared in the stable tetragonal phase after heat treatment. The result of this study therefore should be considered as the preparation of 8 mol% CaO-$ZrO_2$ nanopowders via the hydrothermal method.

Studies on the growth and properties of orthophosphate crystals by the hydrothermal method (수열법에 의한 올소인산염 결정의 육성과 성질에 관한 연구)

  • Orthophosphate crystals were grown by the hydrothermal method and the properties of grown crystals were investigated by means of X-ray diffraction. Vickers hardness tester, etc. The starting powders of $AIPO_4 and GaPO_4 $were prepared as a single phase by the solid state reaction of stoichiometric mixture of $AI_2O_3 or Ga_2O_3$ and $NH_4H_2PO_4$ and the subsequently by the hydrothermal treatment. The hydrothermal conditions for high growth rates of the orthophosphate crystals are as follows: $AlPO_4$ crystal; temperature ranges, between $170$~$200^{\circ}C$; temperatures difference, $15$~$20^{\circ}C;$, hydrothermal solvent, 4m HCl, $GaPO_4 crystal; temperature ranges, between $210 and 240^{\circ}C;$; temperature difference, $25$~$30^{\circ}C; $, hydrothermal solvent, 4m HCl. Morphologies of grown crystals tended to be bounded by (1010), (1011) and (0111) faces at low temperatures, and grew with well developed (0001) faces by increasing the growth temperature. On the other hand, the properties of orthophosphate crystals $(AlPO_4/GaPO_4)$ were as follows: lattice parameters (nm); a=0.494, c=1.094/a=0.490, c=1.105, density (gcm-3); 2.62/3.56, Vickers hardness (Nm^2); $1.02{\times}10^1^0/7.06{\times}10^9$, refractive indices; $ne=1.529{\pm}0.003, no=1.519{\pm}0.003/ne=1.611{\pm}0.006, no=1.599{\pm}0.006, birefringence; {\pm}0.01/{\pm}0.012$, dielectric constant (Fm-1); 6/7.

A Study of Co-Combustion Characteristics of North Korean Anthracite and Bituminous Coal in 2 MWe CFBC Power Plant (2 MWe 순환유동층 발전 플랜트에서 유연탄과 북한 무연탄 혼소시험 특성 연구)

  • In this study, co-combustion characteristics of Chinese bituminous coal and North Korean anthracite were investigated using a 2 MWe scale circulating fluidized bed power plant. At first, the combustion efficiency of bituminous coal of China and Australia as a function of excess air ratio and temperature were observed. The results showed that the combustion efficiency was influenced by particle size and volatile content of coal, the combustion efficiency of Chinese bituminous coal was over 99.5%. The unburned carbon particles from fly ash and bottom ash were a content 5~7% and 0.3%, respectively. The combustion efficiency with the mixture ratio 20% of bituminous coal and anthracite decreased over 5% because of the increase of entrained particles by a small average particle size of anthracite in the combustor. However, the outlet concentration of $SO_2$ and $NO_x$ was not changed remarkably. The concentrations of the typical air pollutants such as $NO_x$ and $SO_2$ were 200~250 ppm($O_2$ 6%), 100~320 ppm($O_2$ 6%) respectively. The outlet concentration of $NO_x$ was decreased to 30~65% with $NH_3$ supplying rate of 2~13 l/min in SCR process. The $SO_x$ removal efficiency was up to 70% by in-furnace desulfurization using limestone with Ca/S molar of approximately 6.5. With wet scrubbing using $Mg(OH)_2$ as absorbent, the $SO_x$ removal efficiency reached 100% under near pH 5.0 of scrubbing liquid.

Pressure Effects on the Aquation of $cis-[Co(en)(NH_3)_2Cl_2]Cl$ in Acetone-Water Mixtures (아세톤-물 혼합용매에서 $cis-[Co(en)(NH_3)_2Cl_2]Cl$의 수화반응에 미치는 압력의 영향)

  • The rates for the aquation of $cis-[Co(en)(NH_3)_2Cl_2]Cl in acetone-water mixtures have been measured at various pressures and temperatures by the electric conductivity method. The rate constant measured at 25$^{\circ}$C in pure water solvent is 3.47 ${\times}10^{-4}$/sec. Rate constants are increased with increasing temperature, and decreased with increasing pressure and mole fraction of acetone. Activation volumes and other activation parameters are calculated from these rate constants. The activation volumes are all positive and lie in the limited range +2.82~+$8.2cm^3$/mole. The rate constants in aqueous acetone solution are analyzed with the solvent compositions. Plots of log $k_{obs}$ vs. Grunwald-Winstein Y values show that log $k_{obs}$ varies linearly and the gradients are about 0.25. The applications of a free energy cycle relating the process initial state ${\to}$ transition state in water to that in acetone-water mixture show that the changes in solvation of the transition state have a dominant effect on the rate. From these results the aquation of this complex would be discussed in terms of dissociative mechanism ($I_d$).

  • $Al_2$$O_3$ coatings were deposited on M2 high speed steels by the plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) process, using a gas mixture of AlC1$_3$, $H_2$, $CO_2$ and Ar $Al_2$$O_3$ coatings had interference color and showed amorphous phase. $A1_2$X$A1_3$/($Ti_{0.5}$ /$Al_{0.5}$ )N double layer coatings were produced in the sequence of substrate $NH_3$ plasma pretreatment, ($Ti_{0.5}$$Al_{0.5}$)N depoition process, $Al_2$$O_3$ deposition process. $Al_2$ $O_3$/( $Ti_{0.5}$A $l_{0.5}$)N double layer coatings showed NaCl structure in ( $Ti_{0.5}$A $l_{0.5}$)N layer and amorphous phase in A1$_2$ $O_3$ layer. It was shown that $Al_2$ $O_3$ columns continuously grew onto ( $Ti_{0.5}$A $l_{0.5}$)N columns. ( $Ti_{0.5}$A $l_{0.5}$)N single coating and $Al_2$ $O_3$/( $Ti_{0.5}$A $l_{0.5}$)N double layer coating were oxidized at $700^{\circ}C$, 80$0^{\circ}C$, 90$0^{\circ}C$ for 1hr, 3hr in atmosphere. At 80$0^{\circ}C$, single layer coatings were oxidized, which were examined substrate oxide particle. But $Al_2$ $O_3$/ ( $Ti_{0.5}$A $l_{0.5}$)N double layer coatings maintained the asdeposited state. Therefore, $Al_2$ $O_3$/ ( $Ti_{0.5}$A $l_{0.5}$)N double layer coatings have moreexcellent oxidation resistance than ( $Ti_{0.5}$A $l_{0.5}$)N single layer coatings.X> 0.5/)N single layer coatings.s.

The Effects of Drying Temperature on Chromate Treatment for Electroplated Zinc (전기 아연도금용 유색 크로메이트에 대한 건조 온도의 영향)

  • In this study, the effect of drying temperature on characteristics of the trivalent chromate film on electroplated zinc was investigated. An zinc-electroplated iron specimen with a thickness of 5 ㎛ was used for chromate treatment. Chromate treatment was conducted in a solution diluted 10 times from a mixture of Cr(NO3)3·9H20 360 g/L, Co(NO3)2·6H2O 60 g/L, Na2SO4 60 g/L, NH4F·HF 25 g/L, and NaOH 20 g/L. The zinc electroplated specimen was treated using the chromate solution with pH 2.0 at 25 ℃ for 60 s. Subsequently, chromate-treated samples were dried in an electric furnace for 2h with temperature varied from 25 to 125 ℃. The corrosion rate increased with the increase in the drying temperature, and the surface morphology of the chromate-treated film was observed using FE-SEM. When the drying temperature changed, the color of the chromate film changed from green to yellow, and the thickness of the film changed from 362 to 241 nm, respectively. Additionally, corrosion resistance was evaluated via a salt spray test.

  • An experiment was performed to study solidification of binary mixture with double-diffusive convection in the liquid. A rectangular enclosure was filled with ammonium chloridewater solution. The phase change and convection process were studied through shadowgraph. Becasuse of the double-diffusive convection, the temperature field and concentration filed were stratified very rapidly. Correlation between solidified mass fraction and the dimensionless numbers was found; solidified mass concentration can be expressed as a linear function of $(Ste{\cdot}Ra^{1/4})^{2-Ste}{\cdot}Fo^{1/2}$.

Physicochemical Changes of Food Waste Slurry Co-fermented with Pig Manure Slurry (음식물쓰레기와 돈분 액상물의 혼합부숙시 이화학적 특성 변화)

  • To find a feasibility of utilization of food waste slurry (FWS) generated during composting, FWS was combined with pig manure slurry (PMS) in various ratios and the change of nutrient contents and offensive odor of the combined slurries before and after fermentation were studied. The initial pH was 7.67 for PMS and 8.45 for FWS. However, during the fermentation, pH increased in the combined slurries with the higher FWS rate among the treatments while decreased in thosewith higher PMS rate. EC of each slurry sample showed that the difference among combined slurry samples has been reduced during fermentation and became stabilized in $21{\sim}23dS\;m^{-1}$ after 180 days. After 180 days fermentation, total nitrogen (T-N) decreased. T-N of mixture with a half and more FWS decreased up to 0.1%, less than the critical level (0.3%). The contents of O.M., T-N, phosphorus, calcium and magnesium decreased with fermentation while those of potash and salinity increased. From initial fermentation until 30 days, a lot of $NH_3$, as an offensive odor, was produced. However, it decreased steadily, except in higher PMS rate. In terms of producing $50{\mu}g\;ml^{-1}$ of $NH_3$, the top layer took 30 days after fertilization with FWS only, 45 days for utilized treatment with F75 (25 % of PMS), 75 days for utilized with F50 (50%) and F25 (75%) and 90 days for PMS only, respectively. $RNH_2$ also had similar trend with $NH_3$ but it was produced continuously as long fermentation proceeded. In terms of $RNH_2$, the decrease in concentration up to $50{\mu}g\;ml^{-1}$ were; 45 days for FWS only(F100), 105 days for F75 utilization, 120 daysfor F50, 165 days for F25, respectively. ethyl mercaptan was produced in PMS until 180 days after fertilization but it was not produced in FWS. Sensory tests as an integrated test of offensive odor were also done. FWS showed lower than 1 after 30 days from initial fermentation, while PMS had still offensive odor even up to 180 days from initial fermentation. It is probably affected by the continuous production of ethyl mercaptan and amines. However, considering in decrease T-N content caused by volatilization while offensive odor intensity according to official standard of fertilizer is lower than 2. Further study on controlling offensive odor needs to be done.

  • Geothermal water at moderate temperature in a range between 30 to $50^{\circ}C$ exists sparse in surroundings. Mostly they are utilized as heat or water source at spar zones in Korea. However, a large portion of used water is discarded due to its poor recovery quality and inferior application technologies. In this research, an innovative heat pump system based on the hybrid concept that combinate compression cycle and absorption cycle was investigated mathematically. The hybrid heat pump aims to recycle various kind of the heat sources at moderate temperature including geothermal water effectively. The prime objective of the simulation is to design a compression/absorption hybrid heat pump system which can make high temperature above the level of $90^{\circ}C$ and low temperature of $20^{\circ}C$ as well at the same using $50^{\circ}C$ geothermal heat water. As a result, primitive data was provided as a basis to design a prototype 3 RT class hybrid heat pump.
