  • A sulfuric acid leaching of $LiCoO_2$as cathodic active materials of lithium ion secondary batteries was investigated in terms of reaction variables. In the absence of a reducing agent, the extraction of cobalt was less than 40% in 2 M sulfuric acid at $75^{\circ}C$ instead of that of lithium could be almost 100% in the same conditions. To improve the Co extraction, hydrogen peroxide was used as a reducing agent in the range 2~20 vol%. When over 10vo1% hydrogen peroxide was added, the extractions of both metals were improved to about 95%. It seems to be due to the reduction of Co(III) to Co(II) that can be readily dissolved. The extractions of Co and Li were increased with increasing $H_2$$SO_4$concentration and temperature, and amount of hydrogen peroxide and with decreasing of pulp density. The optimum leaching conditions were determined at $2 M H_2$$SO_4$concentration, $75^{\circ}C$ operating temperature, 100 g/L. initial pulp density, 20 vol% $H_2$$O_2$addition and 30 min.

  • In this paper, we propose a pothole detection system using 2D LiDAR and a pothole detection algorithm. Conventional pothole detection methods can be divided into vibration-based method, 3D reconstruction method, and vision-based method. Proposed pothole detection system uses two inexpensive 2D LiDARs and improves pothole detection performance. Pothole detection algorithm is divided into preprocessing for noise reduction, clustering and line extraction for visualization, and gradient function for pothole decision. By using gradient of distance data function, we check the existence of a pothole and measure the depth and width of the pothole. The pothole detection system is developed using two LiDARs, and the 3D pothole detection performance is shown by detecting a pothole with moving LiDAR system.

  • Making precise 3D maps using Mobile Mapping System (MMS) sensors are essential for the development of self-driving cars. This paper conducts research on the extraction of 3D objects around the roads using the point cloud acquired by the MMS Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) sensor through the following steps. First, the digital surface model (DSM) is generated using MMS LiDAR data, and then the slope map is generated from the DSM. Next, the 3D objects around the roads are identified using the slope information. Finally, 97% of the 3D objects around the roads are extracted using the morphological filtering technique. This research contributes a plan for the application of automated driving technology by extracting the 3D objects around the roads using spatial information data acquired by the MMS sensor.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the dentoskeletal and soft tissue profile changes after extraction of two lower first or second premolars in "borderline" adult skeletal Class III cases. Methods: Twenty-eight patients with "borderline" skeletal Class III malocclusion were studied. All of them were treated by extraction of two lower first or second premolars. Lateral cephalometric radiographs taken at the start and end of treatment were analysed. Twenty-five cephalometric variables were calculated and paired $t$-tests were performed. Results: After treatment, no significant changes were noted in the skeletal parameters ($p{\geq}0.05$). Regarding the dental parameters, the L1-MP angle decreased by $8.1^{\circ}$, the U1-L1 angle increased by $7.7^{\circ}$ ($p$ < 0.01), the overjet distance increased by 5.7 mm ($p$ < 0.01), the L1-NB angle decreased by $7.3^{\circ}$ and the L1-NB distance decreased by 4.8 mm ($p$ < 0.01). The soft tissue parameters of Li-E, Li-H and Li-RL2 distance decreased by 3.2 mm, 3.4 mm and 4.1 mm respectively ($p$ < 0.01). Conclusions: Orthodontic camouflage treatment by extraction of two lower first or second premolars provides a viable treatment alternative for "borderline" skeletal Class III cases to achieve a good occlusal relationship.

  • Catechin compounds from the Green tea cultivated in Bosung (Chollanamdo) were extracted using supercritical fluid and various additives, and analyzed by reversed-phase high performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC). The chromatographic column was packed with LiChrospher 100RP-18(15 $\mu$m), and water was used as the mobile phase with 0.05% phosphoric acid and acetonitrile. Gradient election was applied to separate EGCG by changing the mobile phase compositions. Comparing the extraction yield of three different types of supercritical fluids, pure CO$_2$, with additives of water and ethanol (5 wt,%), the extraction amount of EGCG was most abundant in the suprcritical CO$_2$with ethanol. However, more was extracted and pure higher purity was achieved by solvent extraction using ethanol.

  • The phase separation of low-alkali borosilicate glass with the composition of $6.25Na_2O$.$18.75B_2O_3$.$75.00SiO_2$(mole%) substituting $Li_2O$ for $Na_2O$ was studied. The phase separation in the temperature range of transformation was examined with various heating temperatures and soaking times. Durability to water, thermal expansion and specific density of the specimen were investigated and the microstructure of the separated phase was also observed by transmission electron micrograph techniques. The maximum alkali extraction result with the best phase separation effect was obtained when $Na_2O$ of the base glass was replaced with $1.88Li_2O$ (mole %) and electron micrograph of carbon film replica of $1.88Li_2O$$4.37Na_2O$.$18.75B_2O_3$.$75.00SiO_2$ (mole %) glass showed that the glass consisted of homogeneous two phases. The minimum specific density was shown with the specimen treated at 57$0^{\circ}C$ and it was also shown that the longer the treating time the lower the specific density. The apparent activation energies of approximately 45 kcal/mole by the alkali extraction and 43kcal/mole by the thermal expansion method were derived from the Arrhenius plots, respectively.

  • LiDAR system has become a popular tool for generating 3D surface data such as Digital Surface Model. Extraction of valuable information, such as digital building models, from LiDAR data has been an attractive research subject. This research addresses to extract planar patches from LiDAR data. Planar patches are important primitives consisting of man-made objects such as buildings. In order to determine the best fitted planes, this research proposed a method to reduce/eliminate the impact of the outliers and the intersection areas of two planes. After finishing plane fitting, planar patches are segmented by pseudo color values which are calculated by determined three plane parameters for each LiDAR point. In addition, a segmentation procedure is conducted using the pseudo color values to find planar patches. This paper evaluates the feasibility of the proposed method using both airborne and terrestrial LiDAR data.

  • Recent progress in state-of-the-art geospatial information technologies such as digital mapping, LiDAR(Light Detection And Ranging), and high-resolution satellite imagery provides various data sources fer Digital Elevation Model(DEM). DEMs are major source to extract elements of the hydrological terrain property that are necessary for efficient watershed management. Especially, watersheds extracted from DEM are important geospatial database to identify physical boundaries that are utilized in water resource management plan including water environmental survey, pollutant investigation, polluted/wasteload/pollution load allocation estimation, and water quality modeling. Most of the previous studies related with watershed extraction using DEM are mainly focused on the hydrological elements analysis and preprocessing without considering grid size of the DEMs. This study aims to analyze accuracy of the watersheds extracted from DEMs with various grid sizes generated by LiDAR data and digital map, and appropriate preprocessing methods.

  • Azacrownoalkyl phenylphosphinic acids were synthesized and their competitive solvent extraction characteristics from water to chloroform layer were investigated. Phosphinic acids were synthesized in good yields by one step reaction of phenylphosphinate, aldehyde, and monoazacrown ether and then basic hydrolysis of the resulting phosphinate dsters. These complexing agents revealed a wide effective pH range in extraction of alkali metal ions from water to the organic phase and total metal ion loading at pH 11 was about 75%. The selectivity of the cation extraction was determined mainly by the cavity size of the azacrown ethers, showing $Na^+$ >> $K^+$ > $Rb^+$ > $Li^+$ > $Cs^+$ for the alkyl phenylphosphinic acid ${\underline{2}}$, containing monoaza-15-crown-5 and $K^+$ >> $Rb^+$ > $Na^+$ > $Cs^+$ > $Li^+$ for the alkyl phenylphosphinic acid, ${\underline{3}}$, containing monoaza-18-crown-6 moiety. Applicable pH range of these azacrown ether phosphinic acids in solvent extraction of alkali metal cations was wider than a crownether carboxylic acid with similar selectivity, showing considerable amount of metal ion loading in slightly acidic or neutral media.
