  • It is generally known that the measurement of the ionospheric total electron content(TEC) by GPS can more accurately monitor the broader area of the ionosphere than other current methods. \Ve measured the TEC along a slant path considering the arrival time differences of P-code which is transmitted from GPS satellites with the modulation on two L-band carrier frequencies, L1 (1574.42MHz) and L2 (1227.60MHz). Under the assumptions that the ionosphere is uniformly distributed and its average height is 350km, we transformed the slant TEC to the vertical TEC at the point that the line-of-sight direction to GPS satellite cut across the average height of the ionosphere. Because there is no dual frequency P-code GPS receiver in Korea, we used the data observed at the TAIW GPS station ($N25^{\circ},E121.5^{\circ}$) in Taiwan which is one of the core stations in International GPS and Geodynamics Services (IGS). The TEC values obtained in this work showed a typical daily variation of the ionosphere which is high in the daytime and low in the nighttime. Our results are found to be consistent with the SOLAR-DAILY data of NOAA and the Klobuchar's model for the ionospheric correction of GPS. In addition, in the cornparision with SOLAR-DAILY data, we estimated the precision of our TEC measurement as 2 TEC.

  • A closed subspace J of a Banach space X is called an M-ideal in X if the annihilator $J^\perp$ of J is an L-summand of $X^*$. That is, there exists a closed subspace J' of $X^*$ such that $X^* = J^\perp \oplus J'$ and $\left\$\mid$ p + q \right\$\mid$ = \left\$\mid$ p \right\$\mid$ + \left\$\mid$ q \right\$\mid$$ wherever $p \in J^\perp and q \in J'$.

  • The generalized Gaussian image of a spacelike surface in $L^n$ lies in the indefinite positive quadric ${\mathbb{Q}}_+^{n-2}$ in the open submanifold ${\mathbb{C}}P_+^{n-1}$ of the complex projective space ${\mathbb{C}}P^{n-1}$. The purpose of this paper is to find out detailed information about ${\mathbb{Q}}_+^{n-2}{\subset}{\mathbb{C}}P_+^{n-1}$.

  • In this paper, let q ∈ (0, 1]. We establish the boundedness of intrinsic g-functions from the Hardy-Lorentz spaces with variable exponent Hp(·),q(ℝn) into Lorentz spaces with variable exponent Lp(·),q(ℝn). Then, for any q ∈ (0, 1], via some estimates on a discrete Littlewood-Paley g-function and a Peetre-type maximal function, we obtain several equivalent characterizations of Hp(·),q(ℝn) in terms of wavelets.

  • We report the characterization of a massive (mp = 3.9±1.4Mjup) microlensing planet (OGLE-2015-BLG-0954Lb) orbiting an M dwarf host (M = 0.33 ± 0.12M) at a distance toward the Galactic bulge of $0.6^{+0.4}_{-0.2}kpc$, which is extremely nearby by microlensing standards. The planet-host projected separation is a⊥ ~ 1.2AU. The characterization was made possible by the wide-field (4 deg2) high cadence (Γ = 6 hr–1) monitoring of the Korea Microlensing Telescope Network (KMTNet), which had two of its three telescopes in commissioning operations at the time of the planetary anomaly. The source crossing time t* = 16 min is among the shortest ever published. The high-cadence, wide-field observations that are the hallmark of KMTNet are the only way to routinely capture such short crossings. High-cadence resolution of short caustic crossings will preferentially lead to mass and distance measurements for the lens. This is because the short crossing time typically implies a nearby lens, which enables the measurement of additional effects (bright lens and/or microlens parallax). When combined with the measured crossing time, these effects can yield planet/host masses and distance.

  • The a-subunit of Escherichia coli tryptophan synthase (${\alpha}TS$), a component of the tryptophan synthase ${\alpha}_2{\beta}_2$ complex, is a monomeric 268-residues protein (Mr = 28,600). ${\alpha}TS$ by itself catalyzes the cleavage of indole-3-glycerol phosphate to glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate and indole, which is converted to tryptophan in tryptophan biosynthesis. Wild-type and P28L/Y173F double mutant ${\alpha}$-subunits were overexpressed in E. coli and crystallized at 298 K by the hanging-drop vapor-diffusion method. X-ray diffraction data were collected to $2.5{\AA}$ resolution from the wild-type crystals and to $1.8{\AA}$ from the crystals of the double mutant, since the latter produced better quality diffraction data. The wild-type crystals belonged to the monoclinic space group C2 ($a=155.64{\AA}$, $b=44.54{\AA}$, $c=71.53{\AA}$ and ${\beta}=96.39^{\circ}$) and the P28L/Y173F crystals to the monoclinic space group $P2_1$ ($a=71.09{\AA}$, b=52.70, $c=71.52{\AA}$ and ${\beta}=91.49^{\circ}$). The asymmetric unit of both structures contained two molecules of ${\alpha}TS$. Crystal volume per protein mass ($V_m$) and solvent content were $2.15{\AA}^3\;Da^{-1}$ and 42.95% for the wild-type and $2.34{\AA}^3\;Da^{-1}$ and 47.52% for the double mutant.

  • Let H be a separable infinite dimensional complex Hilbert space, and let $\mathcal{L}(H)$ denote the algebra of all bounded linear operators on H into itself. Let $A,B{\in}\mathcal{L}(H)$ we define the generalized derivation ${\delta}_{A,B}:\mathcal{L}(H){\mapsto}\mathcal{L}(H)$ by ${\delta}_{A,B}(X)=AX-XB$, we note ${\delta}_{A,A}={\delta}_A$. If the inequality ${\parallel}T-(AX-XA){\parallel}{\geq}{\parallel}T{\parallel}$ holds for all $X{\in}\mathcal{L}(H)$ and for all $T{\in}ker{\delta}_A$, then we say that the range of ${\delta}_A$ is orthogonal to the kernel of ${\delta}_A$ in the sense of Birkhoff. The operator $A{\in}\mathcal{L}(H)$ is said to be finite [22] if ${\parallel}I-(AX-XA){\parallel}{\geq}1(*)$ for all $X{\in}\mathcal{L}(H)$, where I is the identity operator. The well-known inequality (*), due to J. P. Williams [22] is the starting point of the topic of commutator approximation (a topic which has its roots in quantum theory [23]). In [16], the author showed that a paranormal operator is finite. In this paper we present some new classes of finite operators containing the class of paranormal operators and we prove that the range of a generalized derivation is orthogonal to its kernel for a large class of operators containing the class of normal operators.

  • Let H be an arbitrary complex Hilbert space. We constructed an extension K of H by means of weakly convergent sequences in H and the Banach limit. Let .phi. be the faithful *-representation of L(H) on K. In this note, we investigated the relations between spectra of T in L(H) and .phi.(T) in L(K) and we obtained the following results: 1) If T is a compact operator on H, then .phi.(T) is also a compact operator on K (Proposition 6), 2) .sigma.$_{l}$ (.phi.(T)).contnd..sigma.$_{l}$ (T) for any operator T.mem.L(H) (Corollary 10), 3) For every operator T.mem.L(H), .sigma.$_{ap}$ (.phi.(T))=.sigma.$_{ap}$ (T))=.sigma.$_{ap}$ (T)=.sigma.$_{p}$(.phi.(T)) (Lemma 12, 13) and .sigma.$_{c}$(.phi.(T))=.sigma.(Theorem 15).15).

  • The groups generated by reflections in faces of Coxeter polyhedra in three-dimensional Thurstons spaces are considered. We develop a method for finding of finite index subgroups of Coxeter groups which uniformize three-dimensional manifolds obtained as two-fold branched coverings of manifolds of Heegaard genus one, that are lens spaces L(p, q) and the space S$^2$$\times$S$^1$.
