Terahertz Spectral Characteristics of Electrolyte Solutions under Different Magnetic Fields

  • Microfluidic chips are new devices that can manipulate liquids at the micrometer level, and terahertz (THz) time-domain spectroscopy has good applicability in biochemical detection. The combination of these two technologies can shorten the distance between sample and THz wave, reduce THz wave absorption by water, and more effectively analyze the kinetics of biochemical reactions in aqueous solutions. This study investigates the effects of different external magnetic field intensities on the THz transmission characteristics of deionized water, CuSO4, CuCl2, (CH3COO)2Cu, Na2SO4, NaCl, and CH3COONa; the THz spectral intensity of the sample solutions decrease with increasing intensity of the applied magnetic field. Analysis shows that the magnetic field leads to a change in the dipole moment of water molecules in water and electrolyte solutions, which enhances not only the hydrogen-bond networking ability of water but also the hydration around ions in electrolyte solutions, increasing the number of hydrogen bonds. Increasing the intensity of this magnetic field further promotes the hydrogen-bond association between water molecules, weakening the THz transmission intensity of the solution.

Evaluating thermal stability of rare-earth containing wasteforms at extraordinary nuclear disposal conditions

  • The thermal stability and crystallization behaviors of La2O3 containing B2O3-CaO-Al2O3 glass waste forms were investigated to evaluate the stability of waste form during emergencies in deep geological disposal. For glasses containing 15% La2O3, LaBO3 phases were observed as major crystals from 780 ℃ and exhibited needlelike structures. Al, Ca, and O were homogeneously distributed throughout the entire specimen, while some portions of B and La were concentrated in some parts. By differential thermal analysis at various heating rates, the activation energy for grain growth and the crystallization rate of LaBO3 were calculated to be 12.6 kJ/mol and 199.5 kJ/mol, respectively. These values are comparable to other waste forms being developed for the same purpose.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is what Saamchimbeop's method of reinforcement and reduction. Methods : 1. We reffered to the Bo-Sa method of DongeuiBo-gam(東醫寶鑑), Uihakim-mun(醫學入門), Uihakjeong-jeon(醫學正傳), Chimgugyeongheom-bang(鍼灸經驗方), Biaoyou-fu(標幽賦) in Cimgudaeseong(鍼灸大成), Nei-Jing(內經). 2. We make a conjecture that Zheng(正), Ying(迎), Sui(隨), Xie(斜) Yingzheng(迎正), Duo(奪), Zhenghuoxie(正或斜), Wen(溫), Liang(凉), JongYang-Inyin (從陽引陰) in Saamchimbeop are another expression of method of reinforcement and reduction and compared with the method of reinforcement and reduction of DongeuiBo-gam(東醫寶鑑), Uihakim-mun(醫學入門), Uihakjeong-jeon(醫學正傳), Chimgugyeongheom-bang(鍼灸經驗方), Biaoyou-fu(標幽賦) in Cimgudaeseong(鍼灸大成), Nei-Jing(內經). Results : 1. Zheng(正) and Xie(斜) are angle of acupuncture manipulation. The descending inserting of Yang-meridian is acupuncture manipulation for the Tonifying effect(補法) and the direct inserting of Yin-meridian is the Dispersing effect(瀉法). 2. JongYang-Inyin(從陽引陰) is the contralateral acupuncture. 3. Ying(迎) and Sui(隨) in the Saamchimbeop are same meaning the method of reinforcement and reduction(補瀉手技法). 4. Saamchimbeop's the final aim is the Wen-Liang(溫凉) according to the disease strong and weak in the Ohaeng-seo of Saam-acupuncture. Conclusions : Saamchimbeop's method of reinforcement and reduction is reinforcement-reduction by lifting and thrusting the needle, breathing reinforcement-reduction method, reinforcing and reducing achieved by rapid and slow insertion and withdrawing of the needles, reinforcement and reduction by opening and closing of needles with contralateral acupuncture by Yin-meridian or Yang-meridian. Saamchimbeop's the final aim is the Wen-Liang(溫凉) according to the disease strong and weak.

Application of Taesikbub and Lung-doyinbub in 「Dong-Ui-Bo-Gam」 as a Korean Traditional Pulmonary Rehabilitation Exercise (「동의보감」에서 제시된 태식법 및 폐장도인법의 한방호흡재활운동으로의 활용)

  • Objectives: The study is aimed to utilize Taesikbub and Lung-doyinbub described in "Dong-Ui-Bo-Gam" as a Korean Traditional Pulmonary Rehabilitation Exercise. Methods: We preliminary researched pulmonary rehabilitation exercise using domestic and international databases and old literatures of Korean Medicine. Then made a draft of Korean Traditional Pulmonary Rehabilitation Exercise based on "Dong-Ui-Bo-Gam". After organizing expert group for verifying the draft of the exercise, we developed the final Korean Traditional Pulmonary Rehabilitation Exercise. Results: The Korean Traditional Pulmonary Rehabilitation Exercise is composed of 5 actions including breathing method, flexibility exercise, percussion and hitting teeth. This exercise is recommended twice a day for at least 5 days per week under the supervision of specialist. It is expected to improve physical activity, dyspnea, health-related quality of life (HRQoL) as well as psychiatric symptoms by breathing deep and slow and exercising the thorax and upper limb muscles. Conclusion: Taesikbub, Lung-doyinbub in "Dong-Ui-Bo-Gam" may be suggested as a better pulmonary rehabilitation exercise for patients of chronic lung disease.

Effects of Chung Sang Bo Ha Tang Water Extract on the Plasma Cortisol Concentration, Arterial Blood $PO_2$ and $PCO_2,$ in the Rabbit (청상보하탕(淸上補下湯) 전탕액(煎湯液)이 가토(家兎) 혈장(血漿) Cortisol 농도(濃度) 및 동맥혈(動脈血) $PO_2,\;PCO_2$에 미치는 영향(影響))

  • The following results were obtained from the observation on the change of plasma cortisol concentration and arterial blood $PO_2,\;PCO_2$ in the experiment of intravenous and oral administration of Chung Sang Bo Ha Tang Water Extract in the rabbit. 1. In intravenous administration, the plasma cortisol conce-ntration increased significantly about 2 hours after with a dose of $0.2m{\ell}/kg$, while the case of $0.4m{\ell}/kg$ reveals this significant increase of concentration about 3 hours after. 2. In oral administration, a significant increase of the plasma cortisol concentration was shown about 2 and 4 hours after with a dose of $1.2m{\ell}/kg$, on the other hand, an increase of concentration was shown at each hour in the case of $0.2m{\ell}/kg$, but it was not significant. 3. In oral administration, $PO_2$ in arterial blood increased significantly in the case of $0.2m{\ell}/kg$, and both the case of $0.1m{\ell}/kg$ and that of $0.2m{\ell}/kg$ gave a significant decrease of $PCO_2$ in arterial blood. With these results, it is verified that Chung Sang Bo Ha Tang has therapeutic effects on JISU(止嗽), JEONG CHEON(定喘), GEO DAM(祛痰) because intravenous and oral administration of it increases the plasma cortisol concentration, However, in the examination of $PO_2$ and $PCO_2$ in arterial blood, any remarkable result was not obtained.
