In this study, noble metals (Pd, Ru, Ir) were supported to $TiO_2$ catalyst. In order to distribute metals uniformly, $H_2O-H_2$ pretreatment technique was used. Xylene, toluene, and MEK were used as reactants. The monometallic or bimetallic catalysts were prepared by the excess wetness impregnation method and were characterized by XRD, and XPS analysis. Pd-Ru, Pd-Ir bimetallic catalysts had multipoint active sites which improved the range of Pd metal state. Bimetallic catalysts had a higher conversion of VOCs than that of monometallic one. The effect of $H_2O-H_2$ pretreatment technique was the enhancement of uniform distribution of Pd particles and promotion of catalytic efficiency. In this study, addition of Ru and Ir metals to Pd promoted oxidation conversion of VOCs. In addition, $H_2O-H_2$ pretreatment promoted removal efficiency of VOCs on the $TiO_2$ support.
In the present research, Ficus religiosa Bark (FRB) is used as an adsorbent for the removal of heavy metal Cr (VI) ions. This Ficus religiosa Bark was characterized by Scanning Electron Microscope, Fourier transform infrared Spectroscopy, Thermo Gravimetric Analyzer and the results showed that activated adsorbent have high adsorption capacity and withstand even in high temperature. Batch and Continuous experiments were conducted to determine the effect of various parameters such as pH, contact time, adsorbent dose and initial metal concentration. The biosorption followed pseudo first order kinetic model. The adsorption isotherms of Cr (VI) on Ficus religiosa fitted well with the Temkin model. In Batch study, maximum biosorption capacity of Cr (VI) was found to be 37.97 mg g-1 (at optimal pH of 2, adsorbent dosage of 0.3 grams and concentration of Cr (VI) is100 mg L-1). The Continuous mode of study shows that 97% of Cr (VI) ion removal at a flow rate of 15 ml min-1. From the results, selected Ficus religiosa Bark has the higher adsorption capacity for the removal of Cr (VI) ions from wastewater.
The objectives of this study is to examine efficiency of swinery wastewater treatment by trickling filters' pilot plant. The results of this study are as follows: 1. The characteristics of sample. The BOD$_5$ was from 2,450 to 2,880mg/l, COD(KMnO$_4$ acid method) was from 910 to 1,064mg/l, and SS was from 920 to 990mg/l. The pH of influent was from 7.3 to 7.6, and the temperature of water was from 17.0$\circ$C to 22.5$\circ$C. 2. For experiment by recirculation, the BODs removal efficiency is 65.2% at recirculation ratio (r)=0, and 70.7% at r=1. The ramoval efficiency of this study is higher than NRC formula of U.S.A.. The recirculation is not significant effect on removal efficiency. 3. For experiment by hydraulic load, the BOD$_5$ removal rate decreased from 73.1% at $3.1m^3/m^2\cdot d$ to 65.3% at $9.2m^3/m^2\cdot d$. The design formula of this study which shows the removal rate of soluble BOD is $Le/Li =10^{-0.24} D/Q^{0.24}$ (Q: hydraulic load, D: depth of filter). 4. For experiment by organic load, the BOD$_5$ removal rate is increased from 70.2% at $0.77kg/m^3\cdot d$ to 75.4% at $4.28kg/m^3\cdot d$. We can obtain the straight line y=0.749 x (y: removed BOD, x :applied BOD) by the least squares method. 5. We can know that trickling filters is strong with the hydraulic load and the organic matter shock load. Here, we can judge that trickling filters is a good method for the treatment of swinery wastewater which containing high concentrated organic matter.

In this study, hydrodynamics such as solid circulation rate and voidage in the desulfurizer and the reaction characteristics of Zn-based solid sorbents were investigated using lab-scale high pressure and high temperature desulfurization process. The continuous HGD (Hot Gas Desulfurization) process consist of a fast fluidized bed type desulfurizer (6.2 m tall pipe of 0.015 m i.d), a bubbling fluidized bed type regenerator (1.6 m tall bed of 0.053 m i.d), a loop-seal and the pressure control valves. The solid circulation rate was measured by varying the slide-gate opening positions, the gas velocities and temperatures of the desulfurizer and the voidage in the desulfurizer was derived by the same way. At the same gas velocities and the same opening positions of the slide gate, the solid circulation rate, which was similar at the temperature of $300^{\circ}C$ and $550^{\circ}C$, was low at those temperatures compared with a room temperature. The voidage in the desulfurizer showed a fast fluidized bed type when the opening positions of the slide gate were 10~20% while that showed a turbulent fluidized bed type when those of slide gate were 30~40%. The reaction characteristics of Zn-based solid sorbent were investigated by different desulfurization temperatures at 20 atm in the continuous operation. The $H_2S$ removal efficiency tended to decrease below the desulfurization temperature of $450^{\circ}C$. Thus, the 10 hour continuous operation has been performed at the desulfurization temperature of $500^{\circ}C$ in order to maintain the high $H_2S$ removal efficiency. During 10 hour continuous operation, the $H_2S$ removal efficiency was above 99.99% because the $H_2S$ concentration after desulfurization was not detected at the inlet $H_2S$ concentration of 5,000 ppmv condition using UV analyzers (Radas2) and the detector tube (GASTEC) which lower detection limit is 1 ppmv.

The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of coagulants and solid-liquid separation methods on algal removal in water treatment processes. Thus characterization of raw water quality in terms of turbidity. UV-254, $KMnO_4$ consumption, chlorophyll-a and correlation analysis of these parameters were conducted. In addition, the effect of commercial Al-based coagulants(Alum. PAC and PACS) on algal removal was studied by turbidity and organic removal, algal species removal, characteristic of pH drop and alkalinity consumption using laboratory jar tests. Organic components including UV-254, $KMnO_4$ consumption, chlorophyll-a in case of algal bloom were highly correlated with turbidity and the correlation coefficients of UV-254, $KMnO_4$ consumption, chlorophyll-a with turbidity were 0.775, 0674 and 0.623, respectively. In coagulation and sedimentation, the Al-based coagulants showed similar efficiency of organic and turbidity removal in low organic($KMnO_4$ consumption below 15mg/l) and low turbidity(below 30NTU). However, PAC and PACS showed better algal removal than alum in high organic concentration($KMnO_4$ consumption above 20mg/l) and high turbidity(above 100NTU) raw water conditions generated by high algal growth, which is considered to be due to the floc settleability. In comparison of sedimentation and flotation after chemical coagulation and flocculation, the removal efficiency of organic and turbidity were higher in case of alum dose with flotation than with sedimentation, while those were better in case or PAC and PACS with sedimentation than with flotation. Thus, Alum with flotation and PAC and PACS with sedimentation is recommended for efficient algal removal. The dominant phytoplankton in raw water were Microcystic and pediastrum simplex and the removal efficiency of algae with sedimentation using alum. PAC and PACS were 27%, 45% and 22% respectively, while those with DAF showed 100% removal of phytoplankton and zooplankton.
Removal of Pb(Ⅱ), Cu(Ⅱ), Cr(Ⅲ), and Zn(Ⅱ) ions from aqueous solutions using the adsorption process on domestic loess minerals has been investigated. Variations of contact time, pH, adsorption isotherms and selectivity of coexisting ions and leachate were experimental parameters. YDI, YPT and KRT samples diluted in 1% aquous solution which was adjusted pH 10.8, 8.0 and 6.50, respectively. The result of XRD measurement, Quartz was mainly observed in all samples. In the case of KRT sample, Kaolinite, Feldspar, Chlorite consisting of clay minerals shows almost same pattern with YPT samples. Different properties showed from the YDI sample containing Iillite, remarkably. For all the metals, maximum adsorption was observed at 30min∼60min. Adsorption of metal ions on loess minerals were reached an equilibrium by shaking the solution for about 30min. Removal efficiency of Pb(Ⅱ) ion for KRT, YPT and YDI were 84.7%, 92% and 100%, respectively. The Cu(Ⅱ) and Zn(Ⅱ) adsorptivity on KRT showed the low in various pH solution However, those on YPT and YDI were high than 90% except for the pH 2 solution. The orders of adsorptivities for domestic loess minerals showed as following : YPT>KRT>YDI. The adsorption isotherms of Cu(Ⅱ) and Zn(Ⅱ) ions on clay minerals were fitted to a Freundlich's. Freundlich constants(1/n) of KRT and YPT domestic loess minerals were 0.63, 0.97 and 0.36, 0.25, respectively.
Calcium oxide, lithium oxide and titanium oxide were investigated as additives of zinc oxide for the removal of hydrogen sulfide at high temperature. This experiment was performed in the range of 1.0-2.0 vol.% H$_2$S concentration at 623-873 K reaction temperature, using a thermogravimetric analyzer. A pore blocking model was found to fit the reaction rate and the kinetics data were sucessfully expressed by this model. The reactions between additive sorbents and hydrogen sulfide were first order with respect to hydrogen sulfide concentration in a gaseous mixture with nitrogen. Among the used sorbents, ZnO-CaO 0.5 at.% and ZnO-TiO$_2$ 2.0 at.% sorbents had the best additive effects on the sulfidation reaction between additive sorbents and hydrogen sulfide, whereas the ZnO-Li$_2$O sorbents were ineffective.
In the removal of heavy metals from the mine deposit using electrokinetic processes, the effects of operation under both constant current and constant potential conditions were estimated. The results of soil pH distributions for DDW-20 V and DDW-100 mA cases after the electrokinetic remediation tests were observed. In the former case, soil pH was not much changed and kept to almost constant value just little higher than initial soil pH of 3.52, except near the cathode, which was about pH 5. While in the latter case, soil pHs of anode and the cathode regions were less than pH 3 and about 6, respectively. The electroosmotic flow to the cathode increased rapidly till 10 hrs and decreased steadily and then maintained to constant rate until the end of operation at constant current condition. Electric potential gradient was continuously increased to as much as 34.375 V/cm. At the steady state, values of the apparent electric conductivity for DDW-20 V and DDW-100 mA were around 40 ${\mu}\textrm{s}$/cm and 30 ${\mu}\textrm{s}$/cm, respectively. In the DDW-100mA test, Cu, Cd, and Zn except Pb showed the tendency of moving toward the cathode. While in the DDW-20 V case, it was observed that Cu, Zn, and Pb except Cd were not moved to any directions. The results of the tests demonstrated that the electrokinetic soil remediation process could be operated better under constant current condition than constant electric potential condition.
In this study, nitrogen oxide (NOx) removal experiments were performed using a graphene based ceramic filter coated with a V2O5-WO3-TiO2 catalyst. Graphene oxide (GO) was prepared by Hummer's method using graphite, and the reduced graphene oxide was produced by reducing with hydrazine (N2H4). Vanadium (V), Tungsten (W), and Titanium (Ti) were coated by the sol-gel method, and then a metal oxide-supported filter was prepared through a calcination process at 350 ℃. A NOx removal efficiency test was performed for the catalytic ceramic filters with UV light in a humid condition. When graphene oxide (GO) and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) were present on the filter, the NOx removal efficiency was superior to that of the conventional ceramic filter. Most likely, this is due to an improvement in the adsorption properties of NOx molecules on graphene coated surfaces. As the concentration of graphene increased, higher NOx removal efficiency was confirmed.
To reduce phosphorus and nitrogen from the swine wastewater, magnesium chloride $(MgCl_2)$ was used as a reaction material for both soluble phosphorus (SP) and ammonia-nitrogen (AN). The initial value of SP content were $471mg/\ell$ far aeration test and $515 mg/\ell$ for NaOH addition test, but treatment of $MgCl_2$ reduced SP value to $5mg/\ell$ and $4mg/\ell$. The removal efficiency of $MgCl_2$ for SP showed $99\%$ in both treatment, and the removal efficiency of $MgCl_2$ for AN showed $15\%$ with treatment of aeration and $18\%$ with NaOH. All the experiments were done in a low temperature of 6 to $8^{\circ}C$, suggesting that this methods are possibly able to apply to a cold weather conditions. Moreover, the struvite crystal structure was identified by electronic microscope, implying that $MgCl_2$ is an effective material for removal of SP from swine wastewater In addition to the increased removal rate of the AN in wastewater, both $MgCl_2$ and $KH_2PO_4$ were added. The SP value was reduced by $99\%$ with 2g addition of the phosphate. The SP removal rate by 4g addition of the phosphate was increased only as $15-19\%$, but the quantity of removed SP was higher than that of 2g addition test. The value of AN was not reduced as expected by adding $KH_2PO_4$. The AN removal rate were low as $18\%$ and $15\%$ like as the level of the former test with $MgCl_2$ alone. Therefore, it is needed to examine closely the reaction mechanism f3r reducing both SP and AN simultaneously.
