  • An optimal preview controller based on the discrete-time $H_{.inf}$ control is presented. The preview controller is synthesized by considering the bounded unknwon disturbances as well as previewable commands and disturbances. The controller derivation procedure is analogous to the LQ-based scheme. The designed preview gain matrix has a similar structure as the LQ-based one. As the infinity norm .gamma. of the transfer function matrix tends to .inf., the preview gains obtained by $H_{\infty}$ control method approach to the gains by the LQR. The LQ-based preview gains are verified to be subsets of the $H_{.inf}$ -based preview gains..

  • This paper proposes an optimum design problem of structural and control systems. taking a 3-D truss structure as an example. The structure is supposed to be subjected to initial static loads and time-varying disturbances. The structure is controlled by a state feedback $H_{\infty}$ controller to suppress the effect of the disturbances. The design variables are the cross sectional areas of truss members. The structural objective function is the structural weight. As the control objective, we consider two types of performance indices. The first function represents the effect of the initial loads. The second one is the norm of the feedback gain. These objective functions are in conflict with each other. Then, first, two control objective functions are transformed into one control objective by the weighting method. Next, the structural objective is treated as the constraint. By introducing the second control objective which considers the magnitude of the feedback gain, we can per limn the design which is robust in modeling errors.

  • In this paper, intervalwise receding horizon controls (IRHCs) are proposed for linear time systems subject to $H_2$ and $H_{\infty}$ problems. Uniform stability conditions are provided for those systems. Under given conditions stability is proved without using an adjoint system. It is also shown that under proposed stability conditions for $H_{\infty}$ problem, $H_{\infty}$-norm bound is satisfied. The results in this paper arc also applicable to periodic systems which belong to the class of time systems.

  • This paper presents a method for designing robust fuzzy $H^{\infty}$ controllers which stabilize nonlinear systems with parameter uncertainty adn guarantee an induced $L_{2}$ norm bound constraint on disturbance attenuation for all admissible uncertainties. Takagi and Sugeno's fuzzy models with uncertainty are used as the model for the uncertain nonlinear systems. Fuzzy control systems utilize the concept of so-called parallel distributed compensation(PDC). Using a single quadratic Lyapunov function, the stability condition satisfying decay rate and disturbance attenuation condition for Takagi and Sugeno's fuzzy model with parameter uncertainty are discussed. A sufficient condition for the existence of robust fuzzy $H^{\infty}$ controllers is then presented in terms of linear matrix inequalities(LMIs). Finally, design examples of robust fuzzy $H^{\infty}$ controllers for uncertain nonlinear systems are presented.

  • This paper provides a reliable H$_{\infty}$ state feedback controller design method for delayed singular systems with actuator failures occurred within the prescribed subset. The sufficient condition for the existence of a reliable H$_{\infty}$ controller and the controller design method are presented by linear matrix inequality(LMI), singular value decomposition, Schur complements, and changes of variables. The proposed controller guarantees not only asymptotic stability but also H$_{\infty}$ norm bound in spite of existence of actuator failures. Since the obtained sufficient condition can be expressed as an LMI fen all variables can be calculated simultaneously. Moreover, the controller design method can be extended to the problem of robust reliable H$_{\infty}$ controller design method for singular systems with parameter uncertainties, time-varying delay, and actuator failures. A numerical example is given to illustrate the validity of the result.

  • This paper proposes an optimum design method of structural and control systems, taking a 2-D truss structure as an example. The structure is supposed to be subjected to initial static loads and disturbances. For the structure, a FEM model is formed, and using modal transformation, the equation of motion is transformed into that of modal coordinates in order to reduce the D.O.F. of the FEM model. The structure is controlled by an output feedback $H^$\infty$$ controller to suppress the effect of the disturbances. The design variables of the simultaneous optimal design of control-structure systems are the cross sectional areas of truss members. The structural objective function is the structural weight. The control objective function is the $H^$\infty$$ norm, that is, the performance index of control. The second structural objective function is the energy of the response related to the initial state, which is derived from the time integration of the quadratic form of the state in the closed-loop system. In a numerical example, simulations have been carried out. Through the consideration of structural weight and $H^$\infty$$ norm, an advantage of the simultaneous optimum design of structural and control systems is shown. Moreover, while the optimized performance index of control is almost kept, we can acquire better design of structural strength.

  • In this paper, we consider the design of a state feedback $H_{\infty}$ controller for uncertain linear systems with saturating actuators. We consider a general saturating actuator and employ the additive decomposition to deal with it effectively. And the considered uncertainty is the unstructured uncertainty which is only known its norm bound. Based on Linear Matrix Inequality(LMI) techniques, we present a condition on designing a controller that guarantees the $L_2$ gain, from the noise to the output, is not greater than a given value. A controller is obtained by checking the feasibility of three LMI's, and this can be easily done by well-known control package. Finally, we show the usefulness of our result by a numerical example.

  • In this paper, a memoryless H$_{\infty}$ controller for linear systems with state and input delays is presented. The proposed controller is a delay independent stabilizer which reduces the H$_{\infty}$ norm of the closed loop transfer function, from the disturbance to the controlled output, to a precribed level. The controller is obtained by solving a minimization problem involving linear matrix inequalities.s.

  • This paper deal with a fault detection algorithm for front wheel passenger car systems by using robust $H{\infty}$ control theory. Firstly, we present a unified formulation of vehicle dynamics for front wheel car systems and transform this formulation into state space form. Also, by considering the cornering stiffness which depends on the tyre-road contact conditions, a multiplicative uncertainty for vehicle model is described. Next, the failures of sensor and actuator for vehicle system are defined in which the fault .lter is considered. From the nominal vehicle model, an augmented system includes the multiplicative uncertainty and the model of fault filter is proposed. Lastly by using $H{\infty}$ norm property the fault detect conditions are deefi.ned, and the actuator and sensor failures are detected and isolated by designing the robust $H{\infty}$ controller, respectively.
