Study on Improving the luminous Efficiency of AC PDPs using the Dual Mode Discharge Electrode Structure Having Short-Gap and Long-Gap Discharge (Short-gap과 Long-gap의 이중 방전 전극 구조를 갖는 AC형 플라즈마 표시기의 효율 향상에 대한 연구)

  • In this paper, we presents the characteristics of the new electrode structure in an AC Plasma Display Panel(PDP) that can generate dual mode discharges with a combination of short-gap and long-gap discharges. The experiment results show that the discharge voltage of the new electrode structure is mainly determined by short-gap discharge and the luminous efficiency is improved by 20% compared with the conventional electrode structure. The improvement of luminous efficiency is mainly caused by higher VUV generation and broader distribution from Ole ICCD camera measurements.

  • The research focuses on controlling a gap to measure the surface defect in semi-conductor fabrication device. The measurement is available accompanying a near field image gap control. In this article, a pneumatic servo system is adopted for the near field gap control. The advantage of the pneumatic servo system is on the preventing the possibility of contacting the device to the wapper surface, fence arising fatal damage. Furthermore, the air from the pneumatic system blows the some particle on the wapper during controlling. The target gap is less than 20 $\mu$m and the gap should keep same amount while the device moves around the surface. The experiment by the pneumatic servo control system is done by employing a simple PID control, and the tracking performance is remarkably verified.   • In precision wire electrode discharge machining by CAD/CAM, it is the most important problem on machining method to determine the wire electrode offset amout from the accurate calculation of discharge gap in order to increase the machining accuracy, after fixing the main machining conditions such as machining speed, wire tension, coolant conductivity, gap vlotage. The present study shows the relationships between discharge gap and main machining conditions by means of a series of experiment concerned with the gap using the workpiece of STD 11, and suggests the experimental eguation to calculate the accurate wire electrode offset amount under the given machining conditions for spot workers.

  • Flow pulsation in the gap connecting with two parallel channels is investigated by RANS and URANS approaches. The two parallel channels are connected by a small channel called for a gap. The parallel channels are designed to have different cross section area with its ratio of 0.5. Computations are conducted using a CFX 11.0 code. The bulk Reynolds number is 60,000. Predicted results are compared with the previous experimental data. Mean velocity profile at the center of gap region are compared with experiments for its validation. Spectral analysis on the lateral velocity in the center of the gap was performed. Auto correlation for the axial-flow velocity pattern was presented. The unsteady structure of the flow pulsation was visualized in the region of the gap in the parallel channel.

  • In this study, an image processing method with FRANSAC(Fuzzy RANSAC) is presented and discussed for the development of a microscopic gap measuring algorithm. Many problems in edge detection processing are mainly occurred by the illumination system. A serious problem is that the edge set of gap could include the error elements that have relatively larger error than normal. This problem leads to a incorrect measurement of gap. We present a gap measuring algorithm using FRANSAC[1] that is a representative robust estimation algorithm. FRANSAC is peformed by first categorizing all data into good sample set, bad sample set and vague sample set using a fuzzy classification and then sampling in only good sample set. Experimental results show that the presented gap measuring algorithm gives a higher accurate value of gap especially for the more noisy image data.

Theoretical analysis of transient wave propagation in the band gap of phononic system

  • Phononic system composed of periodical elastic structures exhibit band gap phenomenon, and all elastic wave cannot propagate within the band gap. In this article, we consider one-dimensional binary materials which are periodically arranged as a 20-layered medium instead of infinite layered system for phononic system. The layered medium with finite dimension is subjected to a uniformly distributed sinusoidal loading at the upper surface, and the bottom surface is assumed to be traction free. The transient wave propagation in the 20-layered medium is analyzed by Laplace transform technique. The analytical solutions are presented in the transform domain and the numerical Laplace inversion (Durbin's formula) is performed to obtain the transient response in time domain. The numerical results show that when a sinusoidal loading with a specific frequency within band gap is applied, stress response will be significantly decayed if the receiver is away from the source. However, when a sinusoidal force with frequency is out of band gap, the attenuation of the stress response is not obvious as that in the band gap.

  • Root gap out of standard by welding deformation is frequently produced at butt weld joints of steel bridge. For example although standard root gap is below 6mm at butt weld joints of plates under 15mm thickness. maximum 35mm root opening is produced at the weld field. At this case, the part out of standard is generally built up and the rest part is welded by WPS. Direct welding without built-up welding is preferred in weld field because built-up welding process bring about the cost-up at manufacturing. To apply this direct weld to root gap out of standard, the investigation about mechanical properties and fatigue at weldment is required. Inthisstudy, therefore the verification for direct weld without built up is performed at weldment as root gap. It includes tension, bending. hardness, impact and fatigue test for each welding specimen of 6mm, 25mm, 35mm root gap.

  • Near field recording (NFR) technology with SIL has been thought as the most promising generation optical storage device. A gap distance between the SIL and the disc should be controlled to be 20${\~}$40nm. We observed gap error signal in our NFR test-bed using a blue LD (405nm). The digital gap servo filter and control algorithm were developed to maintain a constant air gap by adopting a conventional actuator.

Application of Taguchi Methodology for Optimization of Parameters of CVD Influencing Formation of a Desired Optical Band Gap of Carbon Film

  • Taguchi methodology has been applied to get an idea about the parameters related to the chemical vapour deposition technique, which influences the formation of semiconducting carbon thin film of a desired band gap. L9 orthogonal array was used for this purpose. The analysis based on Taguchi methodology suggests that amongst the parameters selected, the temperature of pyrolysis significantly controls the magnitude of band gap (46%). Sintering time has a small influence (30%) on the band gap formation and other factors have almost no influence on the band gap formation. Moreover this analysis suggests that lower temperature of pyrolysis (${\leq}$ $750^{\circ}C$) and lower time of sintering (${\leq}$ 1 h) should be preferred to get carbon thin film with the desired band gap of 1.2eV.

  • The magnetic levitation system is utilized in the magnetic bearing of high-speed rotor because of little friction, no lubrication, no noise and so on. The magnetic levitation system need the feedback controller for the stabilization of system, and gap sensors are generally used to measure the gap. The use of gap sensors brings out the increase of the number of troublesome, and the decrease of the control performance because of the dislocation between the measurement point and the control point. This paper presents the design of the gap estimation circuit for the sensorless method proposed by authors in the magnetic levitation system. We made the gap estimation circuit which was composed of both the superposition circuit and the measuring circuit. And we investigated the validity of the usefulness of the proposed sensorless method in the magnetic levitation system through results of actual experiment.
