INITIATION OF LIPID PEROXIDATION AS A RESULT OF THE COMBINED ACTION OF FERRIC IRON AND LIGHT ON MEMBRANES

  • The synergic effect of iron plus blue light on the peroxidation of membrane lipid was investigated, using liposomes made of phospholipid. While strong irradiation did not affect Fe$^{+2}$-promoted lipid peroxidation that turned out to be O$_2$-dependent, ferric iron in bright light exerted a pronounced effect on the initiation of lipid peroxidation: this combined action of light and Fe$^{+3}$ on liposomal membranes was apparently independent of O$_2$. When liposomal samples containing Fe$^{+3}$ were subjected to irradiation, some portions of Fe$^{+3}$ were converted into Fe$^{+2}$. The extent of the Fe$^{+3}$-Fe$^{+2}$ conversion increased with increasing time of irradiation, which resembled the dependence of Fe$^{+3}$-promoted lipid peroxidation on irradiation. Further, it was observed that the effect of irradiation in liposomal samples containing Fe$^{+2}$ was strikingly mimicked by that of Fe$^{+2}$ addition to the same samples. The obligatory requirement of a suitable Fe$^{+3}$/Fe$^{+2}$ ratio for the genesis of iron-dependent lipid peroxidation, a controversial proposition, was also confirmed by the observation that lipid peroxidation was substantially enhanced by the addition of a mixture of Fe$^{+3}$ and Fe$^{+2}$, as compared to the addition of Fe$^{+3}$ or Fe$^{+2}$ alone. The results obtained in this study not only suggest that light acts as an effector for initiating lipid peroxidation, when Fe$^{+3}$ is present in membrane systems, but also imply that any chemical or physical factor that influences the redox states of iron in membranes can play a role in lipid peroxidation reactions.

나노구조 변화에 의한 Fe2O3/TiO2 복합재료를 충전한 Poly Acrylate 도료의 열차단 특성 (Heat Shield Property of Nanostructural-regulated Fe2O3/TiO2 Composites Filled with Polyacrylate Paint)

  • 본 연구에서는 침전과 수열처리에 의해 나노입방체와 나노막대구조를 갖는 Fe2O3 나노입자를 합성하였다. Fe2O3 나노 입자 표면에 TiO2가 20 nm 두께로 코팅된 Fe2O3/TiO2 core-shell (CS) 복합재료를 합성하였다. Fe2O3/TiO2 CS를 화학적 에칭과 열처리에 의해 Fe2O3/TiO2 CS에서 Fe2O3/TiO2 yolk-shell (YS) 형태의 복합재료를 제조하였다. FE-SEM, HR-TEM, XRD 분석을 통하여 Fe2O3와 Fe2O3/TiO2 CS 및 Fe2O3/TiO2 YS 안료의 물리적 특성을 측정하였다. 안료를 poly acrylate (PA) 수지에 혼합한 도료들의 일사반사율과 색상변화는 UV-Vis-NIR 분석으로 차열 온도는 실험실에서 제작한 차열 온도 측정기를 통해 측정하였다. Fe2O3/TiO2 YS 적색 안료를 사용한 PA 도료는 우수한 근적외선 반사율을 보였으며, Fe2O3 안료를 사용한 도료에 비해 차열 온도가 13 ℃ 감소하였다.

  • The physical properties of \ulcorner-Fe2O3 raw materials were investigated. \ulcorner-Fe2O3/Pd thick film gas sensors were fabricated with screen-printing method and their electrical and sensitivity characteristics were analyzed. The irreversible phase transition from \ulcorner-Fe2O3 to \ulcorner-Fe2O3 occured at 500\ulcorner. At this time, the cation of tetrahedral sites moved into the octahedral sites. \ulcorner-Fe2O3 raw materials contained only trivalent and no divalent iron. Thecontents of divalent iron (Fe+\ulcorner were increased as detecting gases were adsorbed. The addition of Pd (1w/o) to \ulcorner-Fe2O3 enhanced the sensitivity to gases. The sentivity of \ulcorner-Fe2O3/Pd(1w/o) thick film to 5000ppm C4H10 was 97% at the operating temperature of 300\ulcorner.

  • $LiCl-Li_2O_2$용융염계에서 용융염 취급장치의 구조재료를 위한 평가의 일환으로 오스테나이트 합금인 Fe-base 및 Ni-base 합금의 부식거동을 분위기온도; 650~$725^{\circ}C$, 부식시간: 24~168h, $Li_2O$농도; 3wt%, 혼합가스농도: Ar-10%$O_2$에서 조사하였다. $LiCl-Li_2O_2$ 용융염계에서 Ni-base 합금이 Fe-base 합금보다 높은 내부식성을 나타내었으며, 또한 Fe-base 합금에서 Fe의 함량이 낮고 Ni의 함량이 높은 경우 부식저항성이 증가하였다. 아울러 Fe-base 합금의 부식생성물은 $Cr_2O_3$, $FeCr_2O_4$ Ni-base 합금에서는 $Cr_2O_3$, $NiFe_2O_4$로 나타났다.

Removal of Heavy Metal Ions by Electrocoagulation for Continuous Use of Fe2+/Fe3+-Mediated Electrochemical Oxidation Solutions

  • Removal of heavy metal ions ($Cd^{2+}$ and $Zn^{2+}$) by electrocoagulation (ECG) was investigated in an acidic condition, which is necessary for re-using or discharging the mediated electrochemical oxidation (MEO) media. Effects of various parameters such as electrolytes, current densities, and electrode materials were examined for a metal-contaminated MEO system using $Fe^{2+}/Fe^{3+}$ pairs as a mediator. It was found that ECG with Al electrodes is greatly affected by the presence of $Fe^{2+}$. [$Cd^{2+}$] and [$Zn^{2+}$] remain constant until [$Fe^{2+}$] reaches a certain concentration level (ca. 10 mM). This preferential removal of $Fe^{2+}$ during ECG with Al electrodes is not alleviated by controlling current densities, potential programs, and solution mixing. ECG with Fe electrodes, on the other hand, resulted in relatively fast removal of $Cd^{2+}$ and $Zn^{2+}$ under coexistence of $Fe^{2+}$, indicative of the different role between $Fe^{n+}$ generated from an electrode and $Fe^{2+}$ initially present in a solution. When ECG was performed with Fe electrodes until [$Fe^{n+}$] became the same as the concentration of initially present $Fe^{2+}$, [$Cd^{2+}$] and [$Zn^{2+}$] were reduced to one-tenth of the initial concentrations, suggesting the possibility of a continuous use of the medium for a subsequent MEO process.

Fe2O3 첨가에 의한 폐PCB로부터 긁어낸 Cu분말의 용융 및 정제 (Melting and Refining of Cu Powder Scraped from Waste PCB with Fe2O3)

  • 본 연구에서는 폐 PCB(printed circuit board) 표면을 긁어내어 회수한 구리분말을 용융하는 과정에서 용융온도 저감과 정제를 위하여 플럭스로 $Fe_2O_3$를 첨가하였으며, $Fe_2O_3$ 첨가량 및 온도에 따른 구리의 회수율과 불순물 농도에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 구리 회수율은 반응온도와 $Fe_2O_3$의 첨가비율이 증가할 수 록 증가하였다. 그리고 구리 중 산소, 실리콘, 철의 농도는 $Fe_2O_3$ 첨가량이 증가할수록 감소하였다. $Fe_2O_3$를 첨가하여 반응시킨 후의 슬래그를 XRD로 분석하여 fayalite($2FeO{\cdot}SiO_2$)와 철산화물을 확인하였다. 따라서 fayalite 슬래그의 생성에 의한 슬래그의 융점과 점도 감소가 구리 회수율의 증가에 크게 기여한 것으로 생각된다.

Characterization of Methylene Blue Decomposition on Fe-ACF/TiO2 Photocatalysts Under UV Irradiation with or Without H2O2

  • The photocatalysts of Fe-ACF/$TiO_2$ compositeswere prepared by the sol-gel method and characterized by BET, XRD, SEM, and EDX. It showed that the BET surface area was related to adsorption capacity for each composite. The SEM results showed that ferric compound and titanium dioxide were distributed on the surfaces of ACF. The XRD results showed that Fe-ACF/$TiO_2$ composite only contained an anatase structure with a Fe mediated compound. EDX results showed the presence of C, O, and Ti with Fe peaks in Fe-ACF/$TiO_2$ composites. From the photocataytic degradation effect, $TiO_2$ on activated carbon fiber surface modified with Fe (Fe-ACF/$TiO_2$) could work in the photo-Fenton process. It was revealed that the photo-Fenton reaction gives considerable photocatalytic ability for the decomposition of methylene blue (MB) compared to non-treated ACF/$TiO_2$, and the photo-Fenton reaction was improved by the addition of $H_2O_2$. It was proved that the decomposition of MB under UV (365 nm) irradiation in the presence of $H_2O_2$ predominantly accelerated the oxidation of $Fe^{2+}$ to $Fe^{3+}$ and produced a high concentration of OH radicals.

코발트 훼라이트 에피탁시얼 산화철의 생성과 자기특성(I) (Formation of Cobalt Ferrit Epitaxial Iron Oxide and Their Magnetic Properties(I))

  • ${\gamma}-Fe_{2}O_{3}$ 입자의 보자력 특성을 향상시키기 위해 ${\gamma}-Fe_{2}O_{3}$ 입자표면상에 코발트 훼라이트를 결정화시켜 코발트 에피탁시얼 ${\gamma}-Fe_{2}O_{3}$ 입자를 제조하 였다. 피착층인 $Co_{x}Fe_{3-x}O_{4}$의 보자력은 x=1인 조성에서 가장 우수한 특성을 나타내었다. 반응 분위기를 초기 비산화성에서 산화성 분위기로 제어하여 제조한 시료의 자기 특성이 가장 우수하였으며 반응온도 $90^{\circ}C$에서 30분간 반응하면 ${\gamma}-Fe_{2}O_{3}$ 입자표면상에서의 코발트 훼라이트 피착 반응이 완료되었다.

  • Fe-9Cr-2W steels were corroded at $600-800^{\circ}C$ for up to 100 hr in ($Na_2SO_4-K_2SO_4-Fe_2O_3$)-($CO_2-0.3%SO_2-6%O_2$) mixed gas. The poor condition samples formed thick oxide scales that consisted primarily of $Fe_2O_3$ as the major oxide and $Fe_3O_4$, FeO as the minor one through preferential oxidation of Fe. Fe-9Cr-2W steels corroded fast, forming thick and non-protective scale. The scale divided into the outer and inner layer, which consisted of the outer Fe-O layer and the inner (Fe,Cr)-O layer containing some (Fe,Cr)-S.

  • 환원.확산법에 의해 $Sm_{2}Fe_{17}N_{x}$ 계 희토류 영구자석을 제조하기 위한 기초연구로서, 우선 $Sm_{2}Fe_{17}$ 금속간화합물의 제조를 위하여, 금속 Ca에 의한 $Sm_2O_3$의 환원반응과 Fe분말중에 Sm의 확산반응을 검토하였다. 그 결과 전자는 $1000^{\circ}C$이상의 고온의 경우에 매우 빠르게 완료되지만, 후자의 Fe분말의 중심까지 Sm의 확산반응의 완료(완전한 균질화조건)는 $1100^{\circ}C$에서 3h 정도의 R-D 반응이 필요하며, 이 확산반응이 전체반응에 있어서 율속단계임을 알았다. Sm-Fe 계의 금속간화합물들의 성장은$ 1000^{\circ}C$이하에서는 $SmFe_2$, $SmFe_3$,$Sm_{2}Fe_{17}$금속간화합물의 3개의 상이 관찰되었으나, $1100^{\circ}C$에서는 $Sm_{2}Fe_{17}$ 금속간화합물의 상만이 관찰되었다. 본 연구에서 얻어진 최종시료의 산소 및 Ca량은 각각 0.72wt% 및 0.11wt%이었다.
