Treatment Characteristics of Plating Wastewater Containing Freecyanide, Cyanide Complexes and Heavy Metals (I) (도금폐수내 유리시안과 착염시안 및 중금속의 처리특성 (I))

  • The mean pH of wastewater discharged from the plating process is 2, so a less amount of alkali is required to raise pH 2 to 5. In addition, if sodium sulfite is used to raise pH 5 to 9 in the secondary treatment, caustic soda or slaked lime is not necessary or only a small amount is necessary because sodium sulfite is alkali. Thus, it is considered desirable to use only $FeSO_4{\cdot}7H_2O$ in the primary treatment. At that time, the free cyanide removal rate was highest as around 99.3%, and among heavy metals, Ni showed the highest removal rate as around 92%, but zinc and chrome showed a low removal rate. In addition, the optimal amount of $FeSO_4{\cdot}7H_2O$ was 0.3g/L, at which the cyanide removal rate was highest. Besides, the free cyanide removal rate was highest when pH value was 5. Of cyanide removed in the primary treatment, the largest part was removed through the precipitation of ferric ferrocyanide: $[Fe_4(Fe(CN)_6]_3$, and the rest was precipitated and removed through the production of $Cu_2[Fe(CN)_6]$, $Ni_2[Fe(CN)_6]$, CuCN, etc. Furthermore, it appeared more effective in removing residual cyanide in wastewater to mix $Na_2SO_3$ and $Na_2S_2O_5$ at an optimal ratio and put the mixture than to put them separately, and the optimal weight ratio of $Na_2SO_3$ to $Na_2S_2O_5$ was 1:2, at which the oxidative decomposition of residual cyanide was the most active. However, further research is required on the simultaneous removal of heavy metals such as chrome and zinc.

  • TA26 seamount, which is located at south part of Tonga arc, occurs widely hydrothermal plume and is area that sampled hostrock, hydrothermal ore and hydrothermal alteration rock for this study. Hostrocks are basalt and basaltic andesite. Altered rocks by hydrothermal solution consists of plagioclase, pyroxene, pyrite, ilmenite, amorphous silica, barite, smectite, iron sulfates, Fe-Si sulfates and Fe silicates. Gains and losses of major, trace and rare earth elements during wallrock alteration suggest that $K_2O$(+0.04~+0.45 g), $SiO_2$(-6.52~+10.56 g), $H_2O$(-0.03~+6.04 g), $SO_4$(-0.46~+17.54 g), S(-0.46~+13.45 g), total S(-0.51~+16.93 g), Ba(-7.60~+185078.62 g), Sr(-36.18~+3033.08 g), Ag(+54.83 g), Au(+1467.49 g), As(-5.80~+1030.80 g), Cd(+249.78 g), Cu(-100.57~+1357.85 g), Pb(+4.91~+532.65 g), Sb(-0.32~+66.59 g), V(-113.58~+102.94 g) and Zn(-49.56~+14989.92 g) elements are enriched from hydrothermal solution. Therefore, gained(enriched) elements(($K_2O$, $H_2O$, $SO_4$, S, total S, Ba, Sr, Ag, Au, As, Cd, Cu, Pb, Sb, V, Zn) represent a potentially tools for exploration of sea-floor hydrothermal deposits from the Tonga arc.

Production and Properties of Tannase from Lenzites betulina (Lenzites betulina에 의한 Tannase 생산 및 성질에 관한 연구)

  • Six species under the basidiomycetes were screened for extracellular tannase (tannin acyl hydrolase EC 3.1. 1.20) production in submerged culture and Lenzites betulina was found to be most effective for the production of tannase. The optimum cultural conditions for tannase production were $25^{\circ}C$, pH 6.0 and 21 days of culture period, The efficient composition of culture medium for the production of tannase was performed in synthetic medium containing tannic acid, 2g; sucrose, 5g; bacto-peptone, 2g; ,$ KH_2PO_4, \;2g,\; MgSO_4.7H_2O \;0.5g,\; CuS0_4.5H_2O$, 2 mg; thiamine HCl, 100 ug and distilled water 100 ml, The tannase produced from Lenzites bdulin*r was 223.3 unit (umole of gaUic acidiml of brothlmin). The tannase had an optimal reaction conditions ofpH 6.0 and temperature of $40^{\circ}C$. The enzyme was stable at temperature below $40^{\circ}C$ and lost its activity by 50% above $60^{\circ}C$. And the stable pH range was 5.5 to 6.0.

Dyeing Properties and Ultraviolet-cut Ability of Dyed Fabrics with Petasites japonicus Extract (머위 추출액에 의한 직물의 염색성과 자외선 차단성)

  • It is well known that the Petasites japonicus has been used for a long time medicine for the treatment of allergic diseases such as lacquer poisoning. However, the exact components and dyeing properties of its effects is still not known. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the dyeing property and ultraviolet-cut ability of silk and nylon fabrics that was dyed variously with the Petasites japonicus. The Petasites japonicus extract was done by boiling with distilled water at $100^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour. As mordanting agent, we used Aluminum potassium sulfate ($AlK(SO_4)_2{\cdot}12H_2O$), Copper(II) sulfate pentahydrate ($CuSO_5{\cdot}5H_2O$), Iron(II)Chloride ($FeCl_2{\cdot}4H_2O$). The best K/S value of dyeing temperature and time, all the fabrics were $100^{\circ}C$, 90min. Silk fabric was dyed yellow(0.8Y 7.6/2.2) and nylon fabric was dyed reddish yellow(10.1 YR 7.4/3.0). Silk fabric and nylon fabric was changed greenish yellow on mordanting with $CuSO_5{\cdot}5H_2O$ and $FeCl_2{\cdot}4H_2O$ respectively. And the colorfastness of washing and dry-cleaning was improved by using mordanting agent(4~5 grade). Ultraviolet-cut ability(UV-B) was showed more 90% in dyed nylon fabrics.

  • The oxidizer plays an important role in the metal chemical mechanical polishing(CMP) slurry. Currently, the oxidizer used in CMP slurry is nearly divided into several kinds such as $Fe(NO_3)_3$, $H_2O_2$, $KIO_3$, and $H_5IO_6$. It is generally known that oxidizer character of $H_2O_2$ is more effective than other oxidizers. In this work, we have been studied the characteristics for the $H_2O_2$ concentration of copper slurry, which can applicable in the recent semiconductor manufacturing process. Also, it plays an important role in the planarization of copper films using copper slurries during micro-electronic device fabrication. In this work, we confirmed that removal rate of Cu/TaN changed by $H_2O_2$ concentration on copper slurry. And we used $KMnO_4$ in the measurement method of $H_2O_2$. In analysis results, we confirmed that the difference of results is large. We thought that the difference was due to organic component existence. So in titration method of $H_2O_2$ concentration, we used $Na_2S_2O_3$ instead of $KMnO_4$ as solution. Consequently, using the titration method, we could calculate correct data reduced error. And $H_2O_2$ concentration has been adjusted to the target concentration of 0.1 wt%.

  • Four component $Ag_2S$-PbS-$PbHAsO_4-Cu_2S$ and three component $Ag_2S$-PbS-$PbHAsO_4$ electrodes have been prepared and evaluated for the direct measurement of monohydrogen arsenate. The 3.0 : 0.5 : 1.0 : 0.25 (mole ratio, $Ag_2S$:PbS:$PbHAsO_4:Cu_2S$) composition is superior in terms of potentiometric response, stability, rapidity of response and reproducibility. Testing was done over the concentration range $10^{-1}$~$10^{-4}M\;HA_SO_4^{2-}$in 0.1F NH4Ac-NH4OH buffer solution at pH 8.50 with constant ionic strength. Interfering ions were $CN^-,\;I^-,\;S^{-2}$ and $Cl^-$.

The Dyeability and Antibacterial Activity of Fabrics Dyed with Chrysanthemum indicum L. Extract (국화 추출액을 이용한 염색직물의 염색성 및 항균성)

  • This study shows the dyeability and antibacterial activity about cotton and silk fabrics dyed with Chrysanthem indicum L. In the case of dyeability, in the first, K/S value was shown comparatively high numerical value. The value of all test sample was over 20. In the next, in the case of colorfastness, the light colorfastness showed the lowest grade, the other colorfastness was relatively good. However there are some differences according to fabrics and mordants. In the case of antibacterial activity to Klebsielia pneumoniae, the cotton fabrics had the most antibacterial effect at the dyed fabrics that had been mordanted $CuSO_4$.$5H_2O$, and the silk fabrics had the most antibacterial effect at the dyed fabrics that had been mordanted $CuSO_4$.$5H_2O$.$Al_2$ and $(SO_4)_3$.

  • Identification of a soil microorganism strain X-8, producer of ${\beta}$-lactamase inhibitor, based on its morphological, physiological, biochemical and chemotaxonomical characteristics was performed. The strain X-8 was identified as Pseudomonas sp. The beta-lactamase inhibitor produced by this strain was highly achieved in fermentation medium contained glucose 0.5%, urea 0.25%, $K_2HPO_4{\cdot}3H_2O\;0.5%,\;MgSO_4{\cdot}7H_2O\;0.5%,\;FeSO_4{\cdot}7H_2O\;0.01%,\;CuSO_4,\;ZnSO_4,\;MnSO_4\;0.02%$. The beta-lactamase inhibitor was not extracted by organic solvent such as n-butanol and ethyl acetate but remained in aqueous layer. The n-butanol extract showed antimicrobial activity against M. smegmatis. The ${\beta}$-lactamase inhibitor was stable at pH 7.0~8.0 and 4$^{\circ}C$ for 24h. The ${\beta}$-lactamase inhibitor was bound on ion exchanger Diaion WA-30 and HP-20 and eluted with 2N-$NH_4OH$ and acetone, respectively.

Synthesis, crystal structure, and thermal property of piperazine-templated copper(II) sulfate, {H2NCH2CH2NH2CH2CH2}{Cu(H2O)6}(SO4)2

  • The title compound, $\{H_2NCH_2CH_2NH_2CH_2CH_2\}\{Cu(H_2O)_6\}(SO_4)_2$, I, has been synthesized under solvo/hydrothermal conditions and their crystal structure analyzed by X-ray single crystallography. Compound I crystallizes in the monoclinic system, $P2_1/n$ space group with a = 6.852(1), b = 10.160(2), $c=11.893(1){\AA}$, ${\beta}=92.928(8)^{\circ}$, $V=826.9(2){\AA}^3$, Z = 2, $D_x=1.815g/cm^3$, $R_1=0.031$ and ${\omega}R_2=0.084$. The crystal structure of the piperazine templated Cu(II)-sulfate demonstrate zero-dimensional compound constituted by doubly protonated piperazine cations, hexahydrated copper cations and sulfate anions. The central Cu atom has a elongated octahedral coordination geometry. The crystal structure is stabilized by three-dimensional networks of the intermolecular $O_{water}-H{\cdots}O_{sulfate}$ and $N_{pip}-H{\cdots}O_{sulfate}$ hydrogen bonds between the water molecules and sulfate anions and protonated piperazine cations. Based on the results of thermal analysis, the thermal decomposition reaction of compound I was analyzed to have three distinctive stages.

The composition analysis of Danchung pigments at Geunjeongjeon Hall in Gyeongbokgung Palace (경복궁 근정전 단청안료의 성분분석)

  • The composition analysis of Danchung pigments at Geunjeongjeon Hall in Gyeongbokgung Palace were carried out by FXRF and MXRD. The analytical result of the inside pigments at Geunjeongjeon showed that these painted in use the mineral pigments. Gold pigment was pure gold(Au).The main composition identified in green pigments were chalcanthite($CuSO_4$.$5H_2O$) and celadonite($K(Mg, Fe, Al)_2$.$(Si, Al)_4O_10(OH)_2$ ). Red pigments werecinnnabar(HgS).The analytical result of the outside pigments at Geunjeongjeon revealed that these applied to the artificial synthetic pigment. Yellow pigment was chromeyellow($PbCrO_4$). The main composition identified in red pigments were red lead($Pb_3O_4$)and hematite($Fe_2O_3$). Green pigments were emeral green($C_2H_3A_s3Cu_2O_8$) and chromegreen($Cr_2O_3$). Blue pigment was lazurite($Na_6Ca2Al_6Si_6O_24(SO_4)_2$), titanium dioxide($TiO_2$) of white pigment.
