Effects of gas formers on metal transfer of the self-shielded flux cored arc welding (Self-shielded flux cored arc welding시 가스 발생제가 용적 이행 현상에 미치는 영향)

  • Wire meling characteristics were examined with variation of gas formers such as $MgCO_3, CaCO_3 and Li_ 2CO_ 3$ by self-shielded flux cored arc welding. The flux cored wire of overlap type was welded by DCRP. The results obtainedareas follows. 1) Drop type was observed with no gas former, repelled type with MgCO_3$ added and short circuit type with $Li_2CO_3$ added. The variation of transfer mode was related to the blowing force of $CO_2$ gas and the surface tension of the slag. 2) Droplet size increased with adding gas formers due to the effect of $CO_2$ gas cushion. 3) Core spikes were observed more frequently with increasing the amount of gas formers.

  • As the quality of a weld joint is strongly influenced by process parameters the welding process, an intelligent algorithms that can predict the bead geometry and shape to accomplish the desired mechanical properties of the weldment should be developed. In this study, prepared by ${\Phi}1.6mm$ GMA welding of metal wire nose Advice jowelui 350A 600A grade level inverter welder and DAIHEN SCR's were carried out using welding. Welding conditions were 5.5m/min wire feed rate the welding current is rapidly transmit approximately 260A, welding voltage was about 30V. CTWD a 22mm, shielding gas was Ar 20L/min and the welding speed was a 240mm/min. Using data collected during welding equipment welding current and welding voltage waveform was analyzed by measuring the volume of the transition mode. Addition of $CaCO_3$ as a loss of the spread of the weld bead dilution rate decreased, suggesting that, GMA in the overlay welding bead shape control, dilution control and may be used as a welding flux is considered. Stabilizing effect of the arc by the Ca-containing $CaF_2$, $CaCO_3$, $CaMg(CO_3)_2$, respectively, welding flux 0.1wt.% added GMA welding and weld overlay were evaluated with dilution, $CaF_2$, and $CaMg(CO_3)_2$ added to the dilution of Seemed to increase.

  • The potential advantages of the hybrid welding process are improved weld penetration, enhanced gap tolerance, control of weld metal composition, and improved weld quality in comparison to laser or arc welding. Especially, the deep penetration of hybrid welding is very attractive in welding of thick plates. In this study, therefore, the influence of arc power in hybrid welding on detailed bead dimensions at different laser power levels was investigated.

  • Formation of the weld defect, such as a blowhole and a pit in lap-jointed fillet arc welds has been a serious problem in arc welding Zn-coated steel sheet. In this study, the relationship among welding conditions, welding materials and defect formation was investigated in order to minimize these defects in the CO₂welds. In addition, the arc stability of the commercial welding wires was evaluated for revealing their effects on defect formation. Main conclusions obtained are as follows: 1) There was no difference between shear tensile strength of the sound welds and that of the welds with blowholes whose diameters are less than 0.5mm. However, the welds with blowholes whose diameters are equal or large than 0.5mm and pits exhibited tensile strength 10∼ 20% and 30∼40% lower than that of the sound welds respectively. 2) The optimum welding condition to effectively prevent or reduce the weld defects formation are as follows: -The welding variables of 220A-23V-100cm/min and 120A-19V-30cm/min were recommended for minimizing the weld defects. -The gap between the two sheets at the lap-joint should be controlled to more than 0.2mm. -Solid wire was less susceptible to the formation of the weld defects than the flux-cored wire. -The low welding current condition produced less weld defects than the high welding current condition. 3) One of the reason why the amount of the defect was reduced at the low welding current was the gas discharging by the active agitation of the molten pool, due to an increasing in the number of the short circuit.

  • Gas metal arc welding(GMAW) uses a continuously fed electrode as a filler metal. The arc is shielded from atmospheric contamination by an inert gas active or inert/active gas mixture delivered through the welding gun and cable assembly. The recent research topics on $CO_2$ are welding machines are focused mainly on the reduction method of generated spatter by using new type consumable electrode metal or inverter control method. The various current waveform control methods have been researched for welding performance improvement. Until now current waveform control methods reduce to spatter occurred by instantaneous short circuiting,. but these methods is drawback that no reduce spatter occurred by arc reignition. In this paper the previous arc reignition current control method for welding performance improvement of inverter arc welding machine is studied and compared the various current control methods with the previous arc reignition current control method.

  • The experimental model of arc sensor in $CO_2$ arc welding has been individually developed according to welding condition and welding procedure. Therefore, the development of new arc sensor having the features of all conventional arc sensor is important in point of its application to various welding environment. In this study, the arc sensor experimental models comprised of a regression model and noise term were formulated using conventional arc sensing algorithm such as current area difference, current integration difference and weaving end current difference method, and their features were observed. The new regression arc sensor model was suggested using multiple linear regression analysis using current variables as independent variables of regression analysis. The artificial neural network model was also suggested where current variables and offset distance was used input/out variables of input/output node.

  • With the development of semiconductor devices, adoption of microcontroller prevails in industrial area. But in are welding industry, there has not been much progress in adoption of microcontroller technology. Therefore, this paper shows the application of digital control technology to welding machine. This paper presents the design of microcontroller that is appropriate for three phase $CO_2$ gas metal are welding machine. By using microcontroller in $CO_2$ gas metal are welding machine, the overall cost can be reduced compared to analog comtroller. Also TMS370C850 microprocessor is used as overall microcontroller for the are welding machine.

Study of the welding monitor and characteristics according to a change in Gas mixture by FCAW (FCAW의 혼합가스 변화에 따른 용접 모니터링과 특성에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, the effect of varying the mixture gas during FCA welding was studied for an Atos 60 test piece. To examine the characteristics of welding, the weldability of the material was checked before welding and online monitoring was performed to examine the mechanical properties after welding. The mixture Ar 80% + $CO_2$ 20% at low speed gave very elegant beads with very little spatter. 100% $CO_2$ gave rise to high spatter generation. For Ar 80% + $CO_2$ 20%, the low current region due to the normal short circuits created spatter, which was more than double for 100% $CO_2$. This peak distribution occurred due to the instability of the arc. The tensile test result for Ar 80% + $CO_2$ 20%, Ar 90%+ $CO_2$ 10% and $CO_2$ 100% at 511MPa, 507MPa, and 469MPa showed that the yield strength was improved by 8.1 and 8.9% for 80%+ $CO_2$ 20% and Ar 90%+ $CO_2$ 10%, respectively, compared to 100% $CO_2$. The tensile test result at 622MPa, 609MPa, and 581MPa showed that the yield strength was improved by 7.0% for both the mixture gas compared to 100% $CO_2$.
